I didn't realize that the wire I was using was a little sharp on one end. As you can see, this can do bad things to the PCB.

My phone is rebooting the instant I touch the wire to ground, so I don't know if I am going to be able to do the wire trick. )= We shall see.
I ended up taking the back case off of my phone so I could have better access. It does make it a little easier:
Good catch. This should be kept at the top for people to see. How hard was the wire you used?
What wire did you use?
I tried a clipped old cat5 cable but found it too flimsy. Switched to a plain small paperclip and was successful.

It was a 22awg jumper wire. I guess I had clipped it at some point so it formed a sharp tip. The wire itself is fairly soft even.
My hands shake a bunch so just the sharp tip and trying to keep a firm connection was probably all it took.
Just plane old speaker wire worked for me. (For people who look at this later)
I took a plastic ended wall tack wrapped some speaker wire tight for the pin 1 hole then did the same for other end to tap the ground. Pretty precise for me looks good on the pcb over here

Yep. That's what I used. A paperclip, and wrapped it in clear tape from a desk dispenser so I didn't have any static electricity.
IF anyone does happen to be as clumsy as me you will be happy to know that you can lift up the motherboard and there is a large pad on the bottom you can use instead of the tiny dot.
I found that a small piece of coax cable works well.

I kind of gathered from the main thread that it's supposed to do that, and that they want the second contact 1.75 seconds into the reboot.
How hard were you pressing on that wire, anyway? I would think it took a little time and effort to do this damage.

How hard were you pushing? Even with a sharpened point, you would still have to push pretty hard to scrape like that.
A 6 inch piece of household stranded speaker wire worked great for me. Fits into pin 1 hole kind of tight and is easier to hit the contact.

Lol. Not very hard. It wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't.
Actually, I was just looking at it some more and I am starting to think it was already like that before I did anything. I just tried to purposefully scratch another spot and I couldn't do it.
I used a paperclip myself. Only problem I had at first was keeping contact with the first connection before hitting the ground. Found a bigger paper clip with less wiggle and problem solved.

What do you mean? Having access to S-Off no means we can put our phones back into a "Locked" status that now doesn't show you tampered with it. Meaning you should be able to return your phone and even if they check to see if you unlocked it they won't be able to tell.

Just use glue.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
By the looks of that screenshot, you've been taking your back cover off incorrectly, or rather not as "gently" as you should be.
The back case flexes if you pull at it from the bottom and up like peeling a bannana...and when it flexes, it will bend the metal camera frame ring. Thus that red metal ring can/dent/bend and will start to bow and then the tension will cause it to naturally pull away and pop off like you've displayed.
I might suggest removing the ring entirely and trying to bend/straighten it as gently as possible, so that it will want to stay straight and flush, before gluing it back on.
When I am removing the back cover, pop off an end first, usually I do the bottom (since there's the thumb tab, opposite the head phone jack),
then I gently tug at the side with the usb, to pop out the tabs working my way towards the headphone jack,
then I gently push the bottom left corner of the back cover towards the headphone jack, so that it helps pop off and out around the headphone jack as I lift the panel from up from the USB side.
Ultimately I try to remove my backcover without flexing the backcover or flexing it as little as possible especially near the red ring.

Go to your local Sprint store and ask if they have any replacement back covers. i Took mines over to them and they said it is a defective issue in some? I don't know if it is true but they gave me one for free

I am stopping by the Sprint Store this afternoon to get a replacement back today. Was just wondering if this was a common issue or not. Thanks for the replies.
@CYDVicious
You are correct, I am bad at just taking the back off by just the bottom and really bending the case, guess I was used to the original 4G back which was so much easier to take off.
Thanks all
Never happened to me and I got mine right after launch. I always wanted to take it off to paint it or just sand it down. Even tried prying it from the inside with no luck. Is it glued on or does it have another method of attachment? Tried painting it but the edges looked sloppy and it covered up the holes which muffled the already weak speaker. Ended up scraping the paint off before it fully cured.

Looks to be just some sort of glue. But it seems to be very thin aluminum that bends extremely easy and probably hard to get back into the correct shape if bent too much. Wouldn't recommend prying it off, unless you can get it off with heat.

After having my Photon for four days I have been loving it, but have one complaint regarding the kickstand.
If you have the kickstand employed, you can not plug in a charger. I was trying to watch a movie during my lunch break yesterday and the battery was dying, but I could not plug it in.

actually its a good thing its main kickstand side is on that side cause no buttons can be accisentally pressed(ive been charging and using the kickstand like so, was resting my hand ontop the phone reading and it hit the camera button exiting my window) so maybe in the future theyll come out with some alround better design for a kickstand and plugin/button placement

Maybe two centered kickstands that can rest and be locked either way. With a slant we could also do this vertically.

My favorite thing about the OG Evo right there.. bottom usb port.. made life so easy
Actually the port placement is terrible for the Photon/Electrify. Consider the car. You're driving, and you have your phone in a holster within reach of the driver. In America, where this phone is primarily sold, the driver sits in the left seat, so the phone is to his/her right, probably on the left side of the instrument panel. Probably, the 12V outlet is somewhere to the right of that, so the charging cable has to reach around. Mine isn't quite long enough, so it threatens to pull the phone out of its holster. This is unsafe for driving. With the port on the bottom, it would be convenient for drivers on both sides (e.g. UK for the right) as long as your holster has an open bottom (mine does).
Actually, my Electrify does the Hero S (Evo Design 4G, for you Sprint folks), which I had for 6 days, one better. Hero S also had it on the left, but right where the holster grabs the phone. So using the holster was impossible with that phone. Just one of the reasons I traded up to Electrify.
Back to topic: Reverse kickstand is cool, but it depends on the spring action being intact. I'm not sure if it can go out on you, but that would kill reverse kickstand if true. As it is, having the charger cable coming out the "top" can pull it back if the cable doesn't have enough slack.
If you want normal kickstand, I recommend rigging a stand, like a poor man's HD dock. Put a hole where the USB port goes, and if you really wanna be fancy, fix it in there permanently. But if you were gonna be fancy, you'd give it a backing (with a space for the speaker, of course) but all that implies you're better at woodworking than most people. I'd like to think with the right hardware I could do alright, but I know my zero woodworking experience means I would utterly fail to produce anything approaching reasonable quality.
Thanks to this dude, I found out how to fix my kickstand (when Sprint couldn't, they said send it to HTC)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28138385&postcount=13
lemme guess OP.. The kickstand got a lot weaker than it first was? Same problem here. You can disassemble the top half of the back and you will see a nut right above the kickstand. Use a fine tip object to rotate it downward to tighten it and put a dab of glue (optional) so it doesn't loosen again. voila!

Well I kinda play around with it since it's fun lol. Less than 200 times though, no idea. Still, a fix is better than broken.
This is good.info although I figured it out by myself..out of nowhere my kickstand got loose and when I was holding the phone the kickstand would hang out a little bit..it drove me nuts..if u shook the phone it would slap around..I took a mini screwdriver and carefully pushed the nut around until the kickstand was tight as **** and its been fine ever since

Just be careful -- loctite destroys polycarbonate (it leads to stress cracking). Even loctite fumes can weaken it. I would go with something like super glue. Super glue will cause polycarbonate to become foggy if it comes in contact with it, but it won't cause structural damage.
Thanks for giving me some of the credit
even tho I said to use some glue in that post I never actually tried it, mine gets loose every couple of days. Anyone have good experience using glue after tightening?

Mine just started doing this a few days ago...drove me nuts as well! Did the exact same thing as you with a mini screwdriver (didn't really think it would work), but lo and behold, it worked. My kickstand is as good as new - I just hope we won't have to do this on a regular basis.
Anyone have any feedback on the super glue idea?
I have the loose kickstand problem. I attempted to tighten the the nut, but it just kept on spinning and spinning, without ever tightening. Messing with it actually made the looseness worse! Has anyone else had this happen?
EDIT: My headphone jack has been borked since I got it, and I'm still not sure what's wrong with it.
PROBLEM: Headphones won't go all the way in, so it won't play out of the left earbud. (tried all headphones)
Here's some pics from what I could get.

I even sanded down the tip of a garbage pair of headphones, so it was shorter than standard ones, this time it seemed to go all the way in, yet still no audio out of the left earbud.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please, somebody suggest a fix for this, and compare the pics of my jack - to your headphone jack and tell me if anything seems wrong with mine. Thanks.

I don't understand what you mean? It won't let me plug it in deep enough into the port. How does this have anything to do with large cases? I've even tried it with no case...
If you bought it used then you might be having the problem I have on occasion. If it was kept in a pants pocket or a messy purse, you probably have lint or some other debris down in the jack. Get a toothpick and a small flashlight and see if you can fish it out.

I've already checked with a flashlight and there doesn't appear to be any lint or anything like that. No matter how hard I press, it doesn't go in any further.
I had the same problem. Disassembled everything several times, no oxidation, nothing in the plug.
You can see a small black round puck at the bottom of the inside of the jack. My assumption is that it swells with heat.
My correction you ask?
Removed the battery, used an electronic drill with a 1/8ths bit and reduced the puck size. I did this with the phone assembled because the jack is tapered on the bottom if you take it out, won't sit flat.
Just make sure it goes in straight.
Hope that helps!

Hmmm... This is pretty much an all or nothing deal, I'll try this when my dad gets back from Alaska. Thanks for the tip!
I stripped one of the screws that allows me to get to the internals of the phone. I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions about how to remove it. I saw someone talk about super glue and a tooth pick dropping the supper glue in there and letting it harden the trying to screw it out. But any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Is it totally stripped? Using a screwdriver that is not correct may partially strip it but using the correct screwdriver can still get it out.

Superglue won't do crap. Only option other than trying a different screwdriver is using a dremmel to remove the screws head.

Yes what he said! A dremel is the best way. There's this lil ball grinder tool that would grind the head of the stripped screw off. Click here for pic. You can buy just one at most hardware stores. Buy one a lil smaller then the screw head if you can. The turn on the dremel and grind the head of the screw off! Basically you put the lil ball head in the stripped portion and grind out the center. The outer portion will come loose. The base of the screw will remain. Ask some friends to see if they already have a dremel. They are quite handy if your crafty!
Wear a headlamp for good lighting and go slow.

You can use a drill. Find a bit that's the same size as the head of the screw, brace the phone good (extra hands are helpful) and drill off the screw head.
Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? Or check their website. They have a dremmel like device that has the bits on sale just about all the time.
