Bricked or not?? :/ - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have insurance and stuff...But basically, I have a Motorola Electrify and I was getting ready to flash a custom ROM, I booted into recovery, formatted system, data, and cache, then rembered i didn't put the ROM zip on my sd yet...Yah, retarded I know. So i hit reboot, and then d/c it from AC charger and now my phone will only turn onto the motorola bootscreen(Dual Core technology screen)....Am i bricked...? This sucks ass.
Thanks anyways QBK...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktyrF0M91eY
-Chris
UPDATE: So I used another phone to get the zip on my sdcard, if that's gonna help me at all>.< And I let my phone sit for a while, still same thing....But I noticed when I hold menu button+volume down button i get a few options in white text at the top of the bootscreen, one of which was Android Recovery Mode, so I selected that and I get this little warning sign with an unhappy android....I'm assuming the android isn't happy because HE HAD A GIANT BRICK HULK-SMASHED OVER HIS HEAD?!? eek. Help me.

[Q] Cannot open CWR

I used Rom Manager to apply an update to my DasBamf 2.0-beta5, and the phone reset but did not into Clockwork. Instead it got stuck in a boot loop.
I thought nothing of it, held down the volume button and went into the bootloader. Turns out I left a radio update on the root of my SD Card, so no biggie, I plugged the SD Card into my pc, removed the radio update file. I put the card back into my phone and now I cannot get into Clockwork!
Every time I get to bootloader, click recovery, then it goes into clockwork for a second, says:
E: Can't Mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't Mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't Mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/last_log
What should I do? I do not have any idea what the issue is here!
Uhhhh flash a new rom... It appears clockworkmod is still partially useable
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I wish it were that simple. Clockwork is unusable. After the error message appears, the phone reboots into a boot loop with the White HTC Logo.
Load the stock rooted ruu through the bootloader than reflash can in the stock ruu than reupdate to gb

Can you boot into your ROM?
If so, the just reflash CWR via Rom Manager.
If not, grab a root stock RUU and flash that via HBOOT. Then download Rom Manager from the market, then reflash CWR.
Only bad thing about the second option is that you will loose /data.
I *think* there is a way to flash CWR via adb, but I'd have to look it up.
I feel really stupid because I thought I had a grasp on this whole thing...I got rooted without any trouble!!!
BUt I am not sure what is up at this point. I took the advice of those above, and loaded the stock rooted RUU through HBOOT (http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...8597-ruu-return-rooted-stock-leaked-ruus.html).
- Put zip on SD-root folder
- Rename to PG05IMG.zip
- Boot into HBOOT
- Press Vol Up To start update
- Reboot phone
- Boot loop (never goes past the white HTC screen before resetting)
But afterwards I still am stuck in a boot loop! When I boot to recovery I get into CWR, and can move through the menus, but the phone reboots after a second or two (not enough to restore a backup).
Am I doing something wrong?
Sounds to me like the RUU didn't take when flashed via HBOOT. Is S-ON?
Try reflashing that RUU again.
If that doesn't work, try downloading and flashing another RUU. If all else fails, get the unrooted stock RUU. You might have to reroot but you will have a function device.
Damn. I really only trust stuff posted by Jcase, but all of his links are broken!!!

I have an idea what it is, my phone did this before after I walked in and out of a walk in freezer... Blah blah
Go into hboot and find the selection that says system info.or something along those lines and if it says touch panel - fail or something along those lines then it will.never boot up

I think thats ok!
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC12_20aaT

Dang well we know it's not a hardware failure
I would just try to.boot it.up after flashing a ruu and don't touch it for awhile and see if its just taking forever to boot

Well multiupload is back up! I will try some other RUUs
Any tips to charge the battery again though? I am fearful that I may have depleted it too far at this point, and plugging it in sends it into a boot loop!
The best thing is to do a battery pull and plug it in right after you put the battery in
It shouldn't boot up... But who knows I could be wrong
>--The Game--<
I have loaded multiple RUUs in an attempt to fix this...no luck
I followed the Jcase to return to stock for rooted users - I am now stuck with S-ON, but it does not boot still. Just the same old White HTC Screen.
It could be that it wasn't a CWR problem to begin with since you have loaded the stock RUU, replacing CWR with the stock recovery, and it still won't boot.
Try taking the battery out and pressing the power button for about 10 seconds. Then put the battery back in. Do not press the power button. Now plug in the wall (AC) charger. Let the battery fully charge, no bump charging required. then unplug the charger. Now press Vol - and the Power button. The phone should boot into the bootloader (If it doesn't, then its bricked). Select RECOVERY. Now let the stock recovery program run and reboot.
I hope that fixes it, but if it doesn't...
Well, it comes down to a question that you need to ask your self...
Do you continue down the path of trying to fix this device?
Or
Do you take it in to a vzw store (or call warranty dept.) since its still under warranty and get a replacement?
If you want to press on with trying to fix it (keep in mind that all your data is already gone) in the hope that this process will help someone later who might run into the same problem and is out of warranty, I can try to help. But outside of flashing the unroot stock RUU, there isn't a bunch more that I can think of.
Let us know what you want to do.

I agree. I kind of think that Rom Manager corrupted the file that it tried to install.

I will try this tonight. I think that my battery is dead at this point. I can get it to reset to HBOOT (S-ON). I can click recovery. The stock recovery opens, and then within 5 seconds the phone resets. From this point (until I pull the battery), it will boot loop to factory recovery. Is this due to a dead battery? Every time I plug in my phone to my wall AC Adapter, the phone actually turns on and boot loops. Because of this I have not been able recharge it.
I hope that fixes it, but if it doesn't...

You are not the first one to say that. While using a GUI front end to CWR is handy, it doesn't have a great track record.
I have gotten away from using Rom Manager for anything except flashing CWR.
But then again, I make it a habit to wipe /system, /data, and /cache before flashing a new ROM. You can't do that from Rom Manager.
Anyways, back to the topic...
The battery being in a low charge state wouldn't make the phone reboot (I wouldn't think). In the past when my battery has died, the phone never rebooted...it just turned off. However, I have never had the phone boot when I plugged up my wall charger either. (My old OG Droid used to do that and it pissed me off)
Has anyone else had this happen? If not, that might suggest a hardware malfunction of some sort too.
Was this phone dropped or does it have any kind of water damage?
At this point, I think it is a hardware failure of some sort. And chasing a hardware failure with a software fix is kind of a fruitless endeavor.
I know the phone has been babied its entire life (except for many many roms).
I remember that the phone used to turn on when CWR was first put onto the TB, but it should not do that stock, and it was cleared up with recent CWR updates.
I am just going to cut my losses and get the replacement that Verizon has offered me. Maybe I can have a couple more break and just get the Galaxy S2 when it lands!
Well I am not alone!!!

[Q] Can I reset the phone if stuck in loop?

Hello. My HTC Hero locked up, once again, and when I pulled the battery and tried to reboot, it got stuck in the white, HTC screen. I took it to a repair shop and was told that it has "water damage" and that can probably be fixed. They said as long as it powered up, they could reload the software, if needed. They would charge $25 to reload the software. Is that something I can do myself? I am not sure how to get it into recovery mode from that main white screen. Can anyone help me? I do not have the money to buy a new phone, and really need to get this one up and running again. I don't know if it matters, but my phone is rooted.
Thanks in advance!!!
More info plz
Try pressing the home button before turning and keep pressing 'til you get to the recovery screen then use the usb to move the rom to the sd-card and flash it.
Danger Rom 2.1, it is rooted. Clockwork mod is the recovery. Does that sound right to you? They guy at the repair store just called to say he has it working but he had to wipe it and install the software again. I specifically asked him not to do that knowing it is something I can do at home instead of paying $25. As long as it is powering up I can fix it, is that correct? I just have to get it booted into recovery?
Sorry i edited my first reply when i first read it was rooted .. my mistake are you sure the ROM was running ok? if not you may find loads of other ROMs and just flash them once you're in recovery .. gd luck
I just want to make sure I am in correct in saying, if I can get it booted into recovery, then I can get it up and running again? I shouldn't have to pay someone $25 when I can do it for free. What is the easiest way to boot into recovery?
Yes you can re-flash the ROM once you're in the recovery and that should fix your issue, the easiest way to get into recovery is
1. turn phone off (by removing the battery then putting it back)
2. press the home button and keep holding it
3. press the power button (while holding the home key)
4. that should have got u in recovery screen
Thank you for the info!!

[Q] Tell me if there is any hope for this VM lg optimus v, that I bricked?

Long story short, I got all the way to the point of flashing the ROM, after the black screen issue with recovery. So I did all the necessary wipes, the onto the formatting. When I tried to flash ROM, I realized I inserted a sdcard without the ROM I wanted. (THIS IS WHERE I BRAIN FARTED AT) I pulled the battrey instead of just replacing the sdcard that had the ROM. Now when I power on all I get is the lg logo. When I try to go to recovery the lg logo flashes, then just black lit screen and keys lit up. It won't go into emergency mode either, that's my main concern.
Tell me if I'm doing emergecy mode right also, I'm holding down: back arrow key, volume down, and power. Is there an amount of time I need to hold these keys

Does it stay on this black screen with the keys lit up? If so have you pressed the camera button and if so does it reset to the lg logo then back to the black screen? If so if I am correct there may be an issue with display drivers or something. I had the issue as well and it was a pain to get it going correctly again. But anyways what I had to do was to get a different recovery for the phone then have the images of the recovery screen to know what key combinations to press. Once I had that I just flashed the new recovery onto the phone and it restarted and eventually got a new recovery with the screen actually showing up for the recovery. Anyways after I did that I could go from there and I use the latest IHO as it has the necessary display drivers for the phone. I am not sure about other roms as I have only used IHO. Anyways I found how to do this here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...black-screen-custom-recovery-custom-roms.html be sure to register to be able to get access to the forum to see the necessary details. I kind of had to improvise though as I couldn't seem to get access to the phones command prompt always told me waiting for device. Well I hope this helps if you need further details let me know and I will try to help you out.

[Q] AT&T Galaxy Note i717 HELP!!

So I will tell you my story, it all started like this.
The other day I wanted to trade my iPhone 4s for a Galaxy note, So i met up with this guy from craigslist, He had the device, I checked it out, It looked fine and workeed fine, so I took the trade. I saw that he had some personal backgrounds, profiles, etc on the phone do I decided to do a factory reset. I went to settings and followed through with the factory reset. The phone was on the samsung flashing logo, and the battery fell out, I put it back in and powered back on and went straight to the samsung logo, so I assumed it would just pick up from where it left off. I waited about an hour to an hour and a half and it was still on the samsung logo, so I called samsung customer service. I had to do a Hard factory reset, (Hold the 2 volume buttons, and the power button, then let go of the power button) it brought me to some screen that it wasnt suppose to, the Screen was "Team Win Recovery Project v.2.2.1.1" Then it gave me all these on screen buttons to push " Install, Wipe, Backup, Restore, Mount, Settings, Advanced, Reboot" So I clicked install, but there is nothing on the device to install, I have no OS to install, I was just screwing around with it, I click "reboot" and then "System" then it says "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?" so I just swipe to reboot, and the phone just gets stuck again and in ittle print at the bottom of the phone it says " E: System is not installed - preventing reboot" so it just stayed there for a while. So then I did some reasearch and I Held the "Volume down button and power button" I that brought me to some thing that was like " WARNING Custom OS can damage the phone or something like that" then it said "Volume Up to continue" or "Volume Down to Cancel (restart phone) so I clicked volume down, and It got stuck at the blinking samsung logo again,I held the same buttons again and Instead of clicking volume down, I clicked the volume up this time, It got stuck on some Android screen, with the big Green android guy. I just took the battery out, now Im back at a black screen. So Now I have this useless paper weight, no cell phone, and I dont have the guys number that sold me the phone.
(PLEASE HELP)
If anyone has some idea of for me what to do, Please post, anything Im desperate!!!
XDA is no longer worth my time.

Well, if I were you I would install the stock (although rooted) ICS ROM as found here
If you have a microsd card and laptop/home computer I would download a ROM onto the microsd then reinstall it on your NOTE then you can reboot into the "Team Win Recovery" thing as you did before and install according to the instructions found in the thread below.
1) Download the pure ROM as found here in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766933
2) move the zip file to your microsd and then insert to your NOTE (you have to remove the battery to do so).
3) As mentioned, do what you did before to get to the "Team Win Recovery".
4) Follow the instructions for the ROM to install...basically Wipe Data then Factory Reset and then INSTALL the ROM. You will have to look for it on your external card.

THANKS SO MUCH, But I need to find away to get the Micro Sd Card into my Mac, and then how to transfer the data
your gonna need to get a card reader to put that micro sd card.
get one of those usb card reader. then connect to your mac.
mac should recognize that with no problem.
So here is what I have done so far, I downloaded the Zip file "SGH-I717-UCLF6PS.zip" to my mac, From there I connected my Galaxy Note to My iMac via USB cable, I kept the micro sd inside the phone. The mac recgonized the Galaxy Note, so I dragged and dropped the file into the folder of the Note, and let in download, Then I open Team Win Recovery Project, hit install, then located the "SGH-I717-UCLF6PS.zip" file, clicked on it, then "Swiped to confirm flash" I did that then I get an error "Unable to open zip file"
Everything seems to go wrong :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
i have had that happen when my download was corrupt or didnt finish

I have a mac also and purchased a cheap card reader that plugs into my usb port.
BUT, if your mac recognized your Note as a device then that should work.
Just got to redownload the zip file and "eject" it after you transfered to the note's microsd.
You actually dont need a card reader or anything. If you plug your phone into your PC and then boot into recovery holding the 2 volume buttons. then choose mounts and storage (i believe thats the catagory, im copying music to my phone so i dont want to reboot right now) in there you want to mount the USB storage, your computer will download the drivers and then ask you if you want to view the files in it. Just copy over a ROM to your SD card or internal storage and install it and your good to go.

Jiayu G4 (God I hate to title it like this, but yes) stuck in bootloop

How the problem occurred
So a year or two ago I bought a Jiayu G4A/T/Whatever they're calling it and safely got it here. I've used the stock ROM for a bit but I wanted to get rid of the bloatware that was still on it, so I eventually ended up with a properly rooted phone with a ROM from Jiayu.es (Everything worked, have ClockworkMod as recovery, accessible via Mobileuncle Tools), which was essentially a stock Kitkat rom made to work for the phone. Now I got sick of the ROM and recently saw the new EMUI version on Huawei's P8 Lite, so I figured I'd look around for a tailored ROM running that, and ended up at "jiayu-emui-3-0-stable" from Needrom.
What I did
1. I downloaded a ROM from Needrom with identifier "jiayu-emui-3-0-stable" (I can't post external links)
2. Backed up my important files following a guide from androidcentral titled "[Guide] How to Backup and Restore Apps and Data when installing new ROMs" that I can't link, and did a full backup using CWM
3. Placed the ZIP on my internal SD card, went into recovery, wiped data/cache (not dalvik, since it wasn't described in the instructions, I think this might be a probable cause) and installed the new ROM from ZIP
4. Rebooted the phone and now it's stuck in the boot loop I mentioned.
What the problem is
Bootloops aren't that much of a problem usually, except this one is... I can't get into recovery mode. From there on it'd be cake, since I made the right preparations, but I can't get into it. While connected to my PC it keeps powering on, showing a splash screen from Jiayu.es briefly (which shouldn't be present anymore) and powering off after 10 seconds, only to come back to the splash screen.
What I've tried
I've unplugged it, removed the battery, waited to get a full power cycle and tried to hold my buttons in these combinations: [power button + volume up], [power button + volume down] - but neither work. It just keeps going with the boot loop. I can succesfully power it down, and when I plug it in from there it shows the low battery image. At the moment of seeing that I thought I could connect to it using ADB / Fastboot, but no luck there either. It keeps saying no devices found, and with fastboot it keeps on <waiting for device>.
My questions
What exactly can I do if there is no way for me to get into recovery mode? Are there any alternatives? How can I get my device to be recognized by ADB? Is that even possible? Why is this bootloop any different from others?
Update from the massive Q&A thread:

Thank you for the reply!
Yes, it does. I took the battery out and let it lay disassembled for a night, after which I cleaned it a little and re-inserted the battery. With the case back on, nothing happened, so the power button wasn't stuck for sure. When I powered it back on with the power button (no USB attached) it showed the emblem for ~8 seconds and powered off. It then buzzes to show it's powered on again and up comes the splash screen again. Could it be that the ROM was just a rebooting falsehood? Why would it disallow me getting into recovery mode? I really hope there is something that can still force the device into recovery mode / interact with it somehow while in this state.
Oh, I also tried to see if the volume down button was broken but all the contacts seem intact, plus, they worked an hour before I started switching roms.
