[Q] Stuck at boot screen - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I was rooted and tried to add some ringtones to my system/media folder. Instead of saving it to my SD card and then using a file explorer to move the files like I usually do, I tried to use droid explorer and do it from my PC. Now my phone won't get past the motorola logo when I start the phone. I'm not really sure what to do, can someone help me?

I doubt that adding some ringtones to your /system/media folder from your PC would result in a non-boot condition. Sounds like you may have messed up some system files when you were doing what you were doing. Are you sure you did not inadvertently move/delete/alter any other files?
Do you have an unlocked bootloader?

I figured that was what I did... I dont have an unlocked bootloader. Should I?

I'm going to assume that my phone is bricked...
Will this work?

Its too early assume your bricked...I don't think your bricked. Have you tried to access your recovery? You can try a factory reset from there.

Well I got it going again. I flashed the factory sbf. I'm happy I didn't have to go back to the factory settings

turn on your smartphone, and when apear logo press volume up, go into recovery CWM and make a factory reset, or ... get one rom and put in your sd card and make a factory reset and wipe cash, dalvik and flash new rom, and try to boot ....

I have a similar problem and I know I am not bricked but can't currently get out of my jam. This is the process I used so far:
I unlocked bootloaders and rooted with an automatic script program
I installed superuser and CWM from the market
I placed the cm-7.2.0-olympus and gapps .zip files in my root of internal sd
I wiped with moto-fastboot followed by wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and Dalvik
Then I installed the CM7.2 and Gapps zip files from the sd - and now I'm stuck at the M boot screen with Unlocked at the top.
I can boot into recovery and at the top of the recovery screen it reads Atrix 4G Recovery v4.0.0.2 goapk.com so I am thinking that the script I used initially installed a different recovery program and I am not actually using CWM. Also when I get into fastboot mode it says my battery is too low to flash and I don't have an indication that the battery is accepting a charge when it is plugged in...
I can get into recovery but even if I wipe and reinstall the zip I can't get past the boot loop - any suggestions?

I think that tenfar recovery that you flashed through automatic script. You can just get rom racer recovery flash it through fast boot or Just download this recovery and flash it like any ROM and reboot.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659890

Try to flash your phone with your stock firmware using rsd lite
here a list of firmwares ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1125944
WARNING! : flash it with YOUR stock sbf !!!
OR
Flash the latest sbf for your phone. I've done several with no problems. Yes, you do lose the unlocked bootloader though.
This will return you to stock. I used the same files.
You can avoid bricking your device by not flashing any over-the-air updates to Android 2.3.4. Instead, try flashing the 2.3.4 zip over here. Or, flash the pure stock images from here.

Worked!

Not sure why the other recovery wasn't working but your solution worked swell! Thank you for the assistance. I think it is communities like this online that make Android superior to other mobile OS platforms. It is a highly customizable experience but without these forums I'd be lost.

[Q] CWM help.

Forgive my noobishness, but alot if this is still new to me.
My atrix is rooted and unlocked. In preparation for cm7 I decided to flash CWM and make a backup of my current stock rom.
I downloaded the rommanager app from the market and installed CWM successfully. I also used it to make a backup of the rom.
However, when I boot into recovery I get the android guy and exclamation mark. I cant do anything at this point and have to pull the battery and reboot.
What is wrong here?
try installing it again, and are you sure your phone is unlocked? does it says unlocked at the top left corner?
Yes, on reboot it say "unlocked". I installed it again from rom manager, and it told me I successfully flashed. I didnt believe at first since it only took a about 2 secs to complete, but i was able to boot into recovery. Thank for the help.. Im surprised that even worked to be honest.
Another question, lets supposed I wanted to completely remove CWM and install romracers recovery instead. How would I go about removing CWM?

I've had the same problem before. Basically, every time I restored a backup, CWM would crash. It would give me the same thing yours gave you: the Android with the Exclamation point. This could be fixed by reflashing CWM with ROM manager. If you want to install RomRacer's CWM, download the zip for it off of whatever source and out it on your internal storage. Then, from ROM manager, click on "Install ROM from SD card" or something. Choose RomRacer's zip and don't choose any of the wipe options. It should boot into recovery and flash RomRacer's recovery over the ROM manager one.
After installing custom ROMs, I no longer had this problem with the Android and the exclamation point.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Ok this is beginning to get a bit annoying. Basically ANY time I boot into recovery I get the android and exclamation point. If I go into rom manager and flash CWM again, I can reboot into recovery just fine. However, the next time I chose to go into recovery, I get the same problem android and exclamation point.
I decided to install romracers CWM. I used the fastboot method. I erased the recovery partition and flashed the image sucessfully. It rebooted and went into recovery. SAME freaking problem . Android and exclamtion point. I rebooted the phone and entered rom manager again. I attemted to flash CWM from the "FLASH from SD card" option. The phone boots into recovery. Guess what?? Same damned thing. Android and exclamation point.
one last effot, I reflash CWM recovery, then chose 'install from sd card" option and chose rom racers CWM. It boots into recovery, and claims it flashed RR's CWM. I boot into the phones OS and go back to rom manager. I notice that rom managers reports my version of CWM being the same as it ever was (The rom mgr recovery 4.1. something). I choose boot into recovery... and I know you know whats coming now. ANDROID AND!!!!!
Recovery is pointless if I have to relash CWM from rom manager everytime before I use it. If the sh*t ever hits the proverbial fan and I cant boot into the OS I am screwed.
Has anyone ever had or heard of this problem. i would like to have a recovery, that works every single time I need it.
Fastboot flash romracers recovery. That should solve your problem. And leave it alone.

Thanks for the quick reply. However,I did that already.
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
When I boot into recovery, I get the Android and exclamation point. Just to make sure, I did the same thing twice. No luck.
:/
Something is borked. Redownload the recovery and try again.

well I redownloaded Romracers CWM. This time a different file. The red version.
I uninstalled Rommgr app just because. I reboot into fastboot
erase recovery partition.
Flash the recovery image to the recovery partition
reboot and immediately boot back into recovery (without going into the phones OS).
I am greeted with the UI of RR's CWM.
I reboot my phone normally and go back into the phones OS. to test to make sure everything is good...
I reboot into recovery.... and I get android and exclamation point.
I am thoroughly confused and quite frustrated at this point.
Its like once I go into the OS of the phone I cannot sucessfully boot back into recovery.
WTF?!
For clarity's sake I'm on OTA 2.3.4 and am rooted and unlocked
Throw tour phone at the wall and slap it around to let it know who is boss. Other than that I dont know bro. Weird issue. does fastboot -w help any. You have to add erase to that command I forgot.

[Q] Having Problems Installing Roms

I have a HTC Evo 3D and i have rooted my phone using HTC's method and yes i am a noob to android. I have Android 2.3.4 (installed the update before i rooted). I have Rom manager on my phone and have already flashed clockwork mod recovery and downloaded viper rom 1.3. Now when i try to install it from the SD card all my phone does is give me 3 Pre installation choices:
1.Backup Existing Rom
2.Wipe Data and Cache
3.Wipe Dalvik Cache
and the 3rd option is aleady checked and i click ok and another screen pops up it says Press ok to reboot into Clockwork recovery mode and continue installation.
And all my phone does is restart and nothing happens can someone please tell me if im doing something wrong or am i missing something?
What recovery are you using?
A backup is always recommended.
Wipe Data means you clean up your personl settings and stuff.
Also Recommended when flashing a custom rom.
Just go ahead

Suggestion: Don't use ROM Manager to try and flash a ROM. Boot straight into recovery mode (Volume Down and Power button) and do it from there. You will have more control over the process.

I can't believe nobody has been in here to tell you this yet:
If you used HTC's method, unfortunately you are sol as far as flashing any kind of ROM that tries to reload even a stock kernel as part of the process.
Their method was/is a total sham, as far as most custom rom users are concerned.
Sorry, but you're gonna just have to wait for a brand new exploit.
Once again,
Never, ever, ever accept an OTA.

No way to downgrade. Htc new stuff prohibits it. From all accounts, you have to wait for a new exploit.

From what I've read in radom XDA posts, the HTC unlock method provides write access to only the recovery and system partitions of the device but deso not provide write access to the boot partition (where only the kernel is stored). Unfortunately, modifying only the system partition w/o access to the kernel/boot partition can be very limiting.
You should be able to boot into the bootloader by using the volume down + power, mentioned above. Once on the white bootloader screen, you should be able to select Recovery. This should load the clockworkmod recovery as you indicated in a previous post you loaded.
If it doesn't load the clockworkmod recovery but instead loads the stock recovery, the custom recovery wasn't flashed (loaded) properly. Will probably need to flash it again. ROM manager *should* properly flash the cwm custom recovery even on an HTC unlocked device, but this HTC method is very new and we're finding out more and more about its limitations.
Welcome to the Android world! Hope that helps!

[Q] ROM not installing with CWM?

My Atrix 4G is unlocked and I have perma CWM installed, used it for a long time with GB pudding and I wanted to try out a CM7 based ROM.
I've been trying to install MROM with no success at bootup it just stays on the Motorola Logo with the Unlocked. I thought maybe it was doing something and left it for 10 mins with no change.
Any suggestions on what other things I could do? I've tried clearing the cache/dalvik and wiping data/factory reset before installing.
Thanks,
LF4
Try wipe factory after install rom
Sent from my Atrix 4G using xda premium
Go to mounts and wipe system and osh. Flash rom. Will probably sit at boot.... Pull battery and flash rom again without wiping anything then should work
I tried factory wipe after the install.
Also formatted system/osh installing reboot and installing again.
No luck on either one. I was selecting install from zip and would navigate to the zip file downloaded from the link on the xda dev post here. Which is what I thought was the correct way of doing things.
The install takes about 10 seconds before it says it's complete and the boot I'm not sure how long to expect it before I need to pull the power and try again.
Are you sure you downloaded the correct zip file? Should be around 100 MB or so but seems if install is done in 10 seconds that you only have downloaded the kernel or something like that.
You can get MROM at montuori's website here
take the latest build (not the update, the normal version so without *-update.zip)

Yeah that is why I mentioned it only takes a few seconds to install. I did download the full Atrix-MROM-20121111.zip which is 119MB in file size. MD5sum is correct so the file isn't corrupted.
I've tried all different combinations to get this installed. I was running pudding 4.5.91 would that affect the install of MROM?
Might be time to upgrade your recovery. Last version for official clockworkmod no touch mode is 5.0.2.0, touch version is 5.8.1.8 (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager)

Thats what I was thinking. So I can just RSD flash the recovery-clockwork img to upgrade it do you suggest the touch or no touch CWM?
flashing a recovery when your bootloader is unlocked is done via fastboot.
i use the touch version myself and am happy with it.
to flash rom you type
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.zip
make sure you have the motorola fastboot and drivers, to enter fastboot you can either use "adb reboot fastboot" or boot phone with volume down key pressed, when fastboot appears press volume up
stay as far away from rsd if it's not necessary.
My CWM was too old to flash it so I had to update it first then things worked great. Thanks for the help and suggestions I didn't know recovery zips were based on different versions.
Congrats man

[Q] Phone won't boot, can access download and recovery mode.

Ok there, guys.
Before I start, yes I'm an idiot, yes I'm a huge noob, no I don't know what I'm doing.
Basically, I have a SGS2 and I was trying to install Cyanogenmod 10.1.
I used Heimdall to (flash?) install ClockworkMod Recovery and it worked.
I realised that I hadn't put the Cyanogenmod .zip on my phone before I installed CWM.
I got up to rebooting my phone so I could transfer the zip but after the Galaxy splash screen nothing happened.
The screen just stays black and doesn't do anything.
I can access Download and Recovery mode so that's good.
I only have access to a Mac at the moment so I have to use the Heimdall command line.
If anybody could help it would be great, thanks!

I flashed the phone, it automatically rebooted, when the Samsung logo came up I took out the battery, went to recovery mode, wiped cache and full wipe, hit reboot and now it just stays on the Samsung logo, pulsing blue and what not.
I also did the same thing and instead of taking out the battery I just left it in there after the first reboot and the same thing happened.
How can I fix this?

[Q] Mount internal or ext SD card from Recovery

Hi guys,
I basically wiped my phone and completely forgot to copy the ROM I wanted to flash into my ext SD card. Now, the phone has no ROM to boot into and I need to be able to mount it onto Windows from within the recovery to be able to do it. I'm running CWM 6.0.2.7
Has anyone ever done this? What should I do?
Thanks
Wipe data doesn't mean format (like PC) it's just a factory reset
you can flash any official FW for your device by Odin
So it isn't possible for Windows to detect the phone in any way so I can copy the ROM into it?
It's possible by using ADB and push it
but why you don't boot up your device and copy it?
Use adb to push the file onto the card. Or remove ext. SD card and use a reader to copy it over.
Here is a good adb interface, it has easy push/pull where you just supply the two file paths and hit go,

Anyone has any clue why this would be happening?

The ROM? Just did and the same thing happens, boots up to Samsun Galaxy logo, then that "eye" logo then reboots again into CWM. At all times.
I just installed Omega just to try it out and it works, boots into the ROM, with Foxhound it doesn't even reach the Foxhound Logo, it reboots and goes back to CWM... Any ideas? I can't post in the Foxhound thread due to lack of posts

Yes, two times already. Then rooted, then flashed CWM Recovery then wiped data etc, flashed foxhound and same thing happens. Tried Omega and it boots into it, it's only Foxhound and I really wanted to try it...
I'm sorry this thread has derailed into another issue but thought it wasn't worth cluttering with yet another thread.
Is it possible to shut down the phone from CWM Recovery aside from doing a battery pull?
Could be a bad download. Try downloading again.
