Hi,
I was trying to restore image from backup with "CWM recovery" and phone suddenty shut down. (I was trying ICS (wanamlite) but I didn't like it so decided to restore Gingerbread backup).
Tried almost everything, but phone won't turn on. I mean there is no samsung logo, just black screen. I have tried to press VOL UP + HOME + POWER ON and every other key combinations, but screen keeps BLACK. Battery was charged about 60%. I have an extra battery but it did'nt help either.
So I tried to plug JIG, but screen does not respond to it too . Still black.
Any suggestions?
Maybe it's overheated and MB is dead?..

ROM and kernel that you're using?
Probably something to do with siyah 3.1
1. I was using XWLA4 (2.3.6) with Siyah kernel
2. Flashed to wanamlite (ICS XWLP8) with Siyah 3.1rc6
3. It Booted normally, I have played with it about 15 mins and then decided to restore backup
4. Booted in CWM, clicked to restore from backup and went to watch TV
5. When I back - phone was dead.
P.S. ODIN did not recognize phone. It looks like computer does not even know what I am connecting something to it via usb.
There are a number of problems reported with that kernel .
Though the usual is user error not kernel error .
beta is as Beta does .

Long story short.
My phone rebooted when i plugged in my wallcharger (dunno if it has anything with that though), and shows the samsung bootlogo. But after that the screen goes black and nothing happends. Turns itself off again..
I was on MIUI 1.11.4 and KI4 Modem at the time. with latest CWM.
Couldnt get in recoverymode. downloadmode on the other hand is no problem.
So i then tried then to flash different stock roms with odin. still no go. Black screen..
So, anyone?
edit:
I've now got CWR working again. Tried to mount sdcard to pc but no go on this either. Will try to flash villain 1.1.. And if that doesn't work the next step will me repartitioning? :s booo
I have the exact same thing happen to me today!
The phone stops at the big flashing "S" boot screen. I waited a long time and it doesn't get anywhere. however, I then noticed, by tapping the the power button to put the phone to sleep, and then tapping the home button will bring me to the screen lock.
I can unlock the screen. But the phone home screen is black and the all shortcut keys including the four original shortcut keys at the bottom of the screen aren't there!! The only thing I can do are:
1. the dropdown from the notification bar. Everything from the dropdown work.
2. double tapping the home button will bring up the Voice Command
3. long press the home button will bring up task manager, and everything in that particular task manager page is functional.
4. volume keys are functional
5. power button is functional
That's all I can do to the phone.
Both the menu button and the return button are not working.
Can someone please help! Please advise what shall I do.
Thanks.
Remove the sd card, that should fix it.
If you can get to recovery might be a good idea to wipe everything and re-install from scratch.Wipe cache partion, dalvik cache, battery stats, format data, format system, factory reset and then reboot.Phone wont pass S2 logo so give it 2min,pull the battey, put it back in and boot to download and re-install your ROM (firmware first if you want aswell) then apps if you have a back up via titanium.

tried it. doesn't work.
My last resort would be to wipe everything but I wish I don't have to go to that.

Read from another thread, someone is having identical problem: stuck at the S2 logo boot screen.
He tried flashing several ROMs but without any luck: still stuck at S2 logo boot screen. No solution yet.
My condition might be slightly better as I manage to get to the home screen, only I can't launch any program since the screen is blank, and the MENU button doesn't bring up any menu as before.
Any other ideas? Please?
Thanks again.

Hey!
I got my problems sorted out after 4 hours of trying (and failing). Im not sure how to fix yours though but this is how i did it..
Eventually got the "Mount usb to pc"-function working in CWR (No luck with this function in win7, but worked as a charm 1. try in ubuntu). Transfered an old NANbackup i had and flashed that. No problems what so ever! Really odd since I tried to flash the exact same ROM from odin with no luck..Hope this may help you or others. good luck!

Hello,
(Posted this earlier, but just saw it was in the category of General S5830.. appologies for that)
Unfortunately I've got the same problem. I can't get my S5830i in download mode.
I know that it's Volume up+down and power button. Screen light up and off... Then up again .....and that's it. Black screen with the backlight turned on.
What happened?
I tried installing custom rom (RazoDroid) and during install it froze.... Bricked my phone. Was able to go into download mode and used Odin v1.84 to unbrick. After that I installed RazoDroid and tried to patch some system files to get arabic language working (patch found on this forum)... Didn't work...so installed Retribution, but patch also didn't work on that one.
Decided to install middle eastern rom on the phone (as it's for a friend who's english is bad but arabic is perfect)...tried going to download mode...and nothing..
Solutions
1) Tried depleting phone completely and holding buttons then installing the battery... No success
2) Tried removing battery and inserting USB.. then volume up+down then inserting battery... No success
3) Tried removing battery and inserting USB...then volume up+down+power then inserting battery.... No succes
4) Tried number 2+3 with non-standard USB...no success
5) Tried OneClick soft unbrick..... no success
6) Installing different custom roms.... but understand that this doesn't change boot
7) Internet/forums are out of solutions..... Posting this post ....success?
---------- Post added at 12:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:37 AM ----------
Just thinking... Is it possible to update/repair the boot file...in order to get the download mode working again?

I had the same problem as you, I tried for hours to get the dam phone into download mode without success.
When I try to put the phone into download mode I just get a constant black (but 'on') screen. I found that even though this is the case the phone is still recognised in odin, as is the yellow bar would appear in odin. I was able to unbrick my phone by reloading a stock rom and then re-put retribution back on the phone but even now if I try to put the phone in download mode I still get the black screen.
Ive learned to live with it.

GUYS after some trial and error I got it back to work...
apperantly there are 2 download modes..
1. emergency download : volume up + volume down + power
2. "standard" download mode: volume down + power
the emergency download mode pops up (white letters on screen) when booting the Phone with: volume up + down + power.
if you use volume down + power you get the download mode with yellow letters !!!
if you get the yellow download letters:
1. go to odin (i take it that you have the right version and the rom) install the rom. Check odin to see if it has installed everything = pass
2. The Phone reboots -> diconnect the usb cable to finish the install (odin is waiting for reboot but ignore that).
3. Reboot the system in to recovery mode: POWER + HOME button
4. from the Recovery Menu, select “Wipe data/factory reset” then select “Wipe Cache Partition” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot your system.
5. wait for about 5 minutes and the Phone starts os. Connect to your google account and you are finished!
I had a completely bricked Phone but now I got an official factory version running on it again!
I hope this is off some help for others with the same problem!

Alright guys. I hardly post on here because I know many questions have been answered. I searched and was unlucky.
I had my phone rooted last year, but went completely back to stock because I was tired of the battery drain. Recently, maybe a month or 2 ago? I updated to 4.0.4. That's when my power button stopped working. All of a sudden, about a week after, it started working again. So I was happy. A week ago, it stopped again. Using my phone everyday, it got really frustrating. I was dumb and didn't search for a fix, which I later found a temporary fix.
So I decided to root again. Well, when I plug my phone into my laptop, it tells me "USB device not recognized" so I looked for a way to root using mobile. Found a few videos on YouTube with links with an .apk and did it that way. I had CWM backed up in Titanium Backup, so I restored it and opened it. I wanted to flash a ROM on my phone, but I didn't think before I went into CWM. Stupid, I know lol.
Now I'm stuck in CWM, without a working power button. I tried taking the battery out, and putting it back in. It still boots into CWM. I tried taking the battery out, plugging in my phone, and putting the battery back in, and still CWM. I've also tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for a while then putting it back in. And also, taking the battery out and leaving it out for a while, plugging in my phone, then putting the battery back in. Still in CWM. I've also tried hitting the Home button (does nothing). Nothing happens when I hit the Search or Back buttons either. I hit the Menu button, and it hides the menu, then I hit it again and the menu comes back.
Luckily, I'm due for an upgrade next month so recently I've been using my super old "Krzr" flip phone. I miss having a Smartphone though!
Any help would be appreciated!! Please don't flame me lol

Why don't you try repairing the power key. I strongly believe It may be a hardware problem
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
If you have USB debugging enabled you could connect through ADB and force a standard restart.
If that's not an option and you can't get out of recovery (Had a very similar issue with my wife's phone when her power button went) you can use an odin 1 click downloader to revert it to stock and it will then restart normally. I then used the odin 1 click downloader to install a rooted stock rom. After that I took a touch enabled kernel (like Siyah) and installed that through Android Terminal emulator. Now you can boot into CWM and be able to use the touch screen to navigate. It's a pain and it requires a full wife and reversion to stock but it does work. Then you flash a rom that allows for holding the volume down to wake the screen or a kernel like AJK that allows for swiping across the screen to wake the phone.
I'm sure your power button failed so as the previous poster suggested you can look into getting it repaired. I don't have the link on me but there was a place listed here on the forums before that were like $40 to do the hardware replacement.

Thanks for the info. Late last night I pressed the power button while "reboot" was highlighted in CWM and it finally worked. But it only worked that once, at least it got me out of CWM. My phone reboots a LOT. At one point, it rebooted at least 3 times in a row; getting to the AT&T screen and rebooting then.
I've decided to just deal with it lol I'm probably going to see if AT&T can kindly let me upgrade this week instead of waiting until June 1st.
Again, I appreciate the info!!
Do a clean flash
Ok since you are saying your phone's power button started being flaky after a ROM flash, I'm thinking most likely it is not a hardware issue.
Bad flashes, loading different bootloaders, or kernel flashes and then panics happen for various reasons.
You need a clean flash, reset to factory (erase data/cache multiple times) and reboot.
Back up first (like right now), then gather your operation tools.
1-Download I777 usb drivers from Samsung itself, uninstall the current ones, and install the new drivers (Do this plz)
2-Download the stock ROM from [INDEX]AT&T I777 GSll {Root/ROM's/Tools} thread by t3chn0s1s in AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Android Development (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301682)
3-from that thread get: A) Odin B) UCLE5 ROM
4-Run Odin and try connecting your phone to see if it stays in the Download mode successfully (phone off, Odin loaded on your PC, plug in your phone to your PC while holding down both volume keys, release the keys once your COM connection port lights up) sometime holding down the volume down only button works instead of both depending on what you flashed before.
5-load up the stock .tar UCLE5 file in the PDA section, leave all the Odin default check marks on and add the flash bootloaders check mark too(DO NOT check the repartition option)
6- once a clean flash finally happened (doesn't matter if the phones boots up all the way or not yet) pull the battery, and get to recovery and reset / factory reset and let the newly flashed ROM boot up
7-let it settle for 10-15 minutes and then reboot it.
Good luck,
I727-CM10.1
Hi there!
I'm in a big pickle here. I'm running the HTC Droid DNA with ViperDNA ROM (2.0.1) and I wanted to install the OTA 2.0.2 update. I tried to do it OTA, but it didn't work, so I installed it manually. When that happened, my hpone went into a boot loop of some kind.
This boot loop wasn't like anything I've seen. It would show the HTC logo, but then the screen would distort and show black bars and weird stuff like that.
I turned it off completely and tried booting into recovery (POWER + VOL DOWN), but it did the same thing. Weird boot loops.
I came home from work, hoping to find something on the forums, and plugged it in to my computer and tried to power it on and it booted just fine. It does NOT work if plugged into the wall charger or external battery.
So, here's my dilemma: My phone only boots if it's plugged into my computer (has the drivers and ADB installed). I tried restoring to an older restore point, but it still is acting weird (though, instead of black bars and screen distortions, it shows a plain, blue screen (this is with Cyanogen Mod (nightly for DNA))
Is there something I'm missing? I'm in real trouble here
This is what I did. Press and hold both volume up and down and power button simultaneously for 2minutes. Then, turn off your phone completely (I did it via fastboot). Then connect it to the wall charger and the orange led should turn on. After, I let it sit for about 3 hours (until led turned green). Then, while still connected I turned it on and it worked. Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention that I flashed NOS rom because I thought it was viper rom that might've caused it. I flashed it while it was connected to computer and before doing the steps mentioned in previous post.

Thank you very much! That worked!
Here's what I did:
1. I first turned it completely off (using FastBoot) and let it charge overnight.
2. I then booted to the recovery via the Rom Manager app (since I can't boot to it without it)
3. Installed NOS ROM (v. 3.0.7 at the time of this writting)
4. Turned it off again (using fastboot) and let it charge to 100% (green LED)
5. I then proceeded to turn on the device and setup my phone (again )
Thanks again!

So I plugged it in, and when it booted, the HTC logo flashed, and the screen stayed white. I then rebooted the device only to find a bootloop. It's a regular bootloop, not the weird kind you were experiencing. But I could not get my phone to boot correctly, It wouldn't even boot into recovery. So then I plugged it into the computer and it worked. I'm currently trying the way you described to fix this problem, but I have a feeling its not going to work. I'm running a rooted stock ROM. I'll post to see if the method worked or not.
First of all sorry for my poor english
So for no reason my Samsung galaxy s6 edge turned off and now it keeps doing same thing over and over again till battery dies. Phone keeps restarting every 1 second till battery dries out completely once connected to charger it instantly turns on and keeps restarting no matter what. The only thing that works is download mode, but after succesfully flashing rom it restarts and keeps doing same thing again till battery dies .
Also tried flashing custom recovery still can't enter it using button combo
Model:SM-G925F
Update: Now it keeps rebooting as always but white indicator led keeps flashing.
1: Remove sim card.
2: while it shows samsung logo instantly press volume up and home button.
3: if its not entering recovery then keep holding power and volume down button.
4: Let it flash the logo few times
5: then try to enter recovery and wipe data factory reset.
i was having same issue and i fixed this by removing sim card, do not insert sim card until its completely ok

Didn't worked . Also maybe there's something with phone's hardware :? since it doesn't show battery icon once i plug in charger it just instantly goes to restarting.

what is your firmware version and build number, try to reinstall same firmware it was on the device before.
there is some thing wrong with your boot.img , it can not find system.
anyway try to reinstall through odin and plug a chrager that must have at least providing 2 AMPS of current at 5 Volts.

some times its week battery problem and while booting processor needs enough current to start.
so if the battery is week it can not provide enough current while starting.
i have fixed this issue with many devices with bad battery circuit which is built inside the battery not in the device.
