Phone only works while plugged into computer - HTC Droid DNA

Hi there!
I'm in a big pickle here. I'm running the HTC Droid DNA with ViperDNA ROM (2.0.1) and I wanted to install the OTA 2.0.2 update. I tried to do it OTA, but it didn't work, so I installed it manually. When that happened, my hpone went into a boot loop of some kind.
This boot loop wasn't like anything I've seen. It would show the HTC logo, but then the screen would distort and show black bars and weird stuff like that.
I turned it off completely and tried booting into recovery (POWER + VOL DOWN), but it did the same thing. Weird boot loops.
I came home from work, hoping to find something on the forums, and plugged it in to my computer and tried to power it on and it booted just fine. It does NOT work if plugged into the wall charger or external battery.
So, here's my dilemma: My phone only boots if it's plugged into my computer (has the drivers and ADB installed). I tried restoring to an older restore point, but it still is acting weird (though, instead of black bars and screen distortions, it shows a plain, blue screen (this is with Cyanogen Mod (nightly for DNA))
Is there something I'm missing? I'm in real trouble here

This is what I did. Press and hold both volume up and down and power button simultaneously for 2minutes. Then, turn off your phone completely (I did it via fastboot). Then connect it to the wall charger and the orange led should turn on. After, I let it sit for about 3 hours (until led turned green). Then, while still connected I turned it on and it worked. Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention that I flashed NOS rom because I thought it was viper rom that might've caused it. I flashed it while it was connected to computer and before doing the steps mentioned in previous post.

Thank you very much! That worked!
Here's what I did:
1. I first turned it completely off (using FastBoot) and let it charge overnight.
2. I then booted to the recovery via the Rom Manager app (since I can't boot to it without it)
3. Installed NOS ROM (v. 3.0.7 at the time of this writting)
4. Turned it off again (using fastboot) and let it charge to 100% (green LED)
5. I then proceeded to turn on the device and setup my phone (again )
Thanks again!

Hi, I'm having similar problems. I left my phone at home when I left the house, and when I came back, It was powerless. So I plugged it in, and when it booted, the HTC logo flashed, and the screen stayed white. I then rebooted the device only to find a bootloop. It's a regular bootloop, not the weird kind you were experiencing. But I could not get my phone to boot correctly, It wouldn't even boot into recovery. So then I plugged it into the computer and it worked. I'm currently trying the way you described to fix this problem, but I have a feeling its not going to work. I'm running a rooted stock ROM. I'll post to see if the method worked or not.

[Q] Vibrant won't power on, no battery screen

So I attempted upgrading to JPM today and ended up in a situation where I needed to restore the phone using odin. I flashed everything using s1_odin_20100512.pit and the T969 PDA/Phone/CSC files as I have before (this is the 2nd time I've had to roll the phone back). Odin reported the restore/upgrade as a "pass" but my phone won't power on AT ALL.
I've tried the download & recovery mode boot sequences, removed the battery, plugged into my computer and my wall outlet, done the boot sequences with the battery removed and then plugged it back in while holding the buttons, pretty much everything I've seen to fix an issue like this. It still won't turn on. I know the battery is charged, the phone was fine before this most recent flash.
Anyone have any ideas?

My friend, you have a brick!!!!!
Same happened to me, just keep trying to get into DL mode. I got it to eventually work with the normal key combo.

s2 won't turn on

Hi,
I was trying to restore image from backup with "CWM recovery" and phone suddenty shut down. (I was trying ICS (wanamlite) but I didn't like it so decided to restore Gingerbread backup).
Tried almost everything, but phone won't turn on. I mean there is no samsung logo, just black screen. I have tried to press VOL UP + HOME + POWER ON and every other key combinations, but screen keeps BLACK. Battery was charged about 60%. I have an extra battery but it did'nt help either.
So I tried to plug JIG, but screen does not respond to it too . Still black.
Any suggestions?
Maybe it's overheated and MB is dead?..

ROM and kernel that you're using?
Probably something to do with siyah 3.1
1. I was using XWLA4 (2.3.6) with Siyah kernel
2. Flashed to wanamlite (ICS XWLP8) with Siyah 3.1rc6
3. It Booted normally, I have played with it about 15 mins and then decided to restore backup
4. Booted in CWM, clicked to restore from backup and went to watch TV
5. When I back - phone was dead.
P.S. ODIN did not recognize phone. It looks like computer does not even know what I am connecting something to it via usb.
There are a number of problems reported with that kernel .
Though the usual is user error not kernel error .
beta is as Beta does .

[Q] Black screen, no lights, no sounds, but usb detects = hard brick? :(

Hey guys,
As of 1 hour ago, I'm a sad panda. I think i hard-bricked my Jewel. While flashing the the 3.17.651.4 "Full" Firmware zip from here.
Battery was low, so i plugged it into USB while flashing. After it rebooted, screen wouldn't come back on (maybe a driver glitch, it happens sometimes and all is fine), so I unplugged it and tried pressing the power button to reboot it. It probably went into bootloader mode, found the IMG zip and started flashing it. I plugged it back in, nothing. Now cannot get any response out of it. Once the battery dies, maybe it will happily come back to life and all will be okay, but maybe it won't.
I've been flashing for years and have soft-bricked many times and been able to ADB my way out of it, but this time is different. Symptoms are:
- Screen is black, no lights no sounds.
- Phone will not turn off after holding pwr button for 30+ secs
- The only way i know that it's on is when I plug it into my desktop, i hear the usb connection sound. (Win 8.1 x64 with driver signing disabled)
- Device manager does not show any new device, no ADB or Android or HTC Phone.
- Phone will probably run out of battery in a couple hours it was around 5% to begin with
I'm on Hboot 2.09.2222 (DirtyRacun S-OFF) Firmware was 1.12.something. Was happily running CM10.2 and Clockworkmod 6.0.4.8.
anything I should try?
thanks a lot,
Leon
I don't know that CWM was ever fixed to work properly on this device, which means that, combined with trying to flash firmware with a low battery could be bad news.
Leave it on a charger all day, and then come back to it and see if it turns on.

Did you ever get this working? I've got the same symptoms with my phone. Appears to be off and wont turn on but when plugged into the pc, the pc detects it.

Jiayu G4 (God I hate to title it like this, but yes) stuck in bootloop

How the problem occurred
So a year or two ago I bought a Jiayu G4A/T/Whatever they're calling it and safely got it here. I've used the stock ROM for a bit but I wanted to get rid of the bloatware that was still on it, so I eventually ended up with a properly rooted phone with a ROM from Jiayu.es (Everything worked, have ClockworkMod as recovery, accessible via Mobileuncle Tools), which was essentially a stock Kitkat rom made to work for the phone. Now I got sick of the ROM and recently saw the new EMUI version on Huawei's P8 Lite, so I figured I'd look around for a tailored ROM running that, and ended up at "jiayu-emui-3-0-stable" from Needrom.
What I did
1. I downloaded a ROM from Needrom with identifier "jiayu-emui-3-0-stable" (I can't post external links)
2. Backed up my important files following a guide from androidcentral titled "[Guide] How to Backup and Restore Apps and Data when installing new ROMs" that I can't link, and did a full backup using CWM
3. Placed the ZIP on my internal SD card, went into recovery, wiped data/cache (not dalvik, since it wasn't described in the instructions, I think this might be a probable cause) and installed the new ROM from ZIP
4. Rebooted the phone and now it's stuck in the boot loop I mentioned.
What the problem is
Bootloops aren't that much of a problem usually, except this one is... I can't get into recovery mode. From there on it'd be cake, since I made the right preparations, but I can't get into it. While connected to my PC it keeps powering on, showing a splash screen from Jiayu.es briefly (which shouldn't be present anymore) and powering off after 10 seconds, only to come back to the splash screen.
What I've tried
I've unplugged it, removed the battery, waited to get a full power cycle and tried to hold my buttons in these combinations: [power button + volume up], [power button + volume down] - but neither work. It just keeps going with the boot loop. I can succesfully power it down, and when I plug it in from there it shows the low battery image. At the moment of seeing that I thought I could connect to it using ADB / Fastboot, but no luck there either. It keeps saying no devices found, and with fastboot it keeps on <waiting for device>.
My questions
What exactly can I do if there is no way for me to get into recovery mode? Are there any alternatives? How can I get my device to be recognized by ADB? Is that even possible? Why is this bootloop any different from others?
Update from the massive Q&A thread:

Is it booting up on its own too after being off? This happened to wifes phone and it turned out the power button was stuck. I took a pencil and hit the power button with the eraser a few times and it worked then. Her case mustve dislogded it. I will keep my fingers crossed for u. If not send me a private message and i will look for an answer tomorrow and get back with u

Thank you for the reply!
Yes, it does. I took the battery out and let it lay disassembled for a night, after which I cleaned it a little and re-inserted the battery. With the case back on, nothing happened, so the power button wasn't stuck for sure. When I powered it back on with the power button (no USB attached) it showed the emblem for ~8 seconds and powered off. It then buzzes to show it's powered on again and up comes the splash screen again. Could it be that the ROM was just a rebooting falsehood? Why would it disallow me getting into recovery mode? I really hope there is something that can still force the device into recovery mode / interact with it somehow while in this state.
Oh, I also tried to see if the volume down button was broken but all the contacts seem intact, plus, they worked an hour before I started switching roms.

Hey guys yesterday i rooted my phone with kingroot and here is what i did;
- Rooted with kingroot.
- Installed XmodGames
- Installed TWRP (did not work)
- Installed ROM manager (ClockWord one)
- Couldn't install any ROM due to no recovery.
- Installed Safestrap and made a recovery.
- Tried installing CM 12.1 nightly but failed at recovery setup, rebooted device. It was perfectly fine. Then downloaded stable CM 10.1 from ROM manager and went to Safestrap recovery, same happened, couldn't install it.
- There at safestrap, everything happened same as what happened at 12.1 but this time i couldn't reboot my phone, it got stuck in boot loop.
- I did like 3-4 hours of xda and other google research and finally took step of clearing: userdata, cache, dalvik cache.
- After that, i couldn't even get to recovery or fastboot.
However, trying all night long, i could get to fastboot this morning (tried all night), but only at power charger, not at PC USB;
* When i connect it to PC, it shows charging light and nothing else comes up.
* When i connect it to power charger, it gets stuck at "M" logo.
* On holding Power Button + Vol. down, it restarts and gets stuck at "M" logo again.
* On doing same procedure when connected to PC, the charging lid just turns off and on, like if it rebooted.
* I can't get fastboot now either.
xda is my last stop, i really need help badly. Is there a way to recover it, i lost all data it's okay but i just wanna get it to factory reset.
PS: I have tried 100s of tools already, i have all of them installed along with VRZ_XT912_9.8.2O-72_VZW-16-5_CFC.xml (the factory files i believe).
PS: I think i just cleared everything related to android, that's why it only shows "M" logo and does not even proceed to RAZR dual core animation.
PS: If there is any manual way to browse my powered off phone through windows and do some stuff there, it would be easier.
Edit#1: My battery also died, it's plug n play now.
Edit#2: On holding Power+Vol. down while connected with power charger, it just shuts down ("M" disappears) and stays black screen as long as i keep fingers on keys, if i release, it reboots to loop. If i rapidly release and press again the Power+Vol. down keys, i flashes the screen like if it was on and then turned off.
Edit#3: Actually i can access the fastboot through the Power+Vol up+Vol down, but i can't use fastboot features because of my low battery. Is there any other tool from those options which can fix the issue? I have following options (I dont know how to use this recovery);
- Normal powerup (Bricked)
- Recovery (How to? It stucks at Android man lyin down)
- AP Fastboot (Low battery, can't operate)
- BP SBF flash (What it does?)
- BP only (What it does?)
- BP HW Diag & Boot AP (What it does?)
- BP Tools (I saw it can charge your phone but it takes me to blank black screen and gets stuck there)
