Unknown CSC: VNX - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
In New Zealand there are a few GT-I9100 phones showing up that have the csc: VNX. No one can seem to find out what this CSC actually is.
In New Zealand the main CSC is VNZ which is a carrier CSC for Vodafone NZ.
The weird thing is some people have purchased phones directly from Vodafone which have come with the VNX csc while the majority come with VNZ.
Currently we are waiting for an ICS update and people are asking the questions, who is responsible for the VNX csc?
Vodafone NZ & Samsung NZ haven't been able to go give anyone an answer.
Is there anywhere on the net we can go to to find this information out? Is it a non branded NZ phone?
The current VNZ firmware is 2.3.3 while the VNX firmware is 2.3.5, here is the info:
Model: GT-I9100
Product Code: GT-I9100LKAVNX
PDA: I9100XWKI8
CSC: I9100VNXKI1
Phone: I9100XXKI4
Can anyone shed any light on this csc?
thanks

I believe this is the Vodafone NZ Gamer edition firmware.

Yes I've seen a post about that but there doesn't seem to be anything different between the two firmwares. Nothing that makes it a 'gaming edition'

I am pretty sure what makes it a Gamer Edition is on the internal phone memory and since UMS files are not released as part of a firmware pack, you will not notice any differences.

UK ROM on different phone?

I think i have a Latin American version of the phone. Is it safe to flash with a UK ROM? Will it, for all intent and purposes, be like a UK version of the SGS2?
Yeh it'll be fine as long as there are no hardware differences, you can find stock firmwares on samfirmware.com

Thanks! Gonna do this afternoon then!
You're welcome, if i was you I would flash a generic European rom (XEU) as they receive ROM updates through Kies before the UK specific versions do, I'm on O2 in the UK and still on KE2 (my product code is O2U)

I plan on flashing this one, which is the last one listed for Europe on SamFirmwares.com:
I9100XWKF3 ## EXT4.PIT 2.3.3 2011 June 9 CSC - KCL
Is that a good one to get?
I'm starting to understand the whole firmware numbers now. Damn, talk about immersing yourself in a new culture to learn the language!
Seems like the newest generic UK ROM is KE7.
Since I'm in the US, and there is no US version of the phone, I wonder which CSC I should use. I guess it comes down to which region has the most desirable app choices in the market, huh?

[Q] Basebands, Modems, and a Whole Lot of Confusion...

Hi guys,
I originally held off posting this question for a few days, as I figured I should be able to find the answer somewhere withing the forums, and didn't want to bother anyone by making a new thread, but after three days, I've come to the end of it all, and am still as confused as ever, so here goes nothing...
Currently, I'm running the official MIUI ROM, on the Optus network in Australia.
My phone originally shipped with the XWKG1 baseband.
I've since moved to MIUI, and it now says my baseband version is XXKF3.
All this is doing my head in...
For example, what's the difference between XX, and XW? I read in Intratech's thread that the difference is:
XX---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, United Kingdom
XW---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom

But this just confused me more
No where does it say Australia? I've had people tell me that you can flash any baseband/modem, so long as it's for the I9100, and that KI3 is the best to use (but again, do I use XWKI3, or XXKI3?), and that makes me a little more hopeful...
But I've also seen, for example, KI3 used to refer to a lot... e.g.:
XXKI3
Android 2.3.5
This original (unmodified) Wipe Package with new bootloader has: PDA: XXKI3| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: OXAKI3
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/NJV6PR87Y3
These packages have the new bootloader removed and repacked with the old ones so you can safely reset the binary counter with a Jig.
This Frankenstein™ Non-Wipe package has: PDA: XXKI3| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKD1
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/7JTWS2E37R
XXKI3 Stock Kernel:http://www.multiupload.com/WDOO81L5H6
Password: [email protected]

Click to collapse
So, to summarize, what is the difference between XX and XW? Is it just the country? And, is it a full firmware, or can I flash it over the top of MIUI, and keep everything? (same question goes for CSC).
I know it's a lot to ask, and it probably had been covered somewhere else, but I just don't know where else to look
Really, all I'm looking for is the right (latest or fastest) baseband/modem to flash, and the right CSC as well...
Thanks for your time,
screamworks.
First of all wrong section. Shoud have posted in QA. Secondly do you have any problems with the modem your useing right now? Or why do you want to change it. Most of us only go back to stock or country specific modems or csc-s for warranty purposes. If you think KI3 modem might be better for you just flash it. Only the modem not the whole rom. If your looking for answers try the miui thread.
I know using the search sometimes is a pain especially on xda cause it has such a large amount of threads but remember you posted another one that probably has been answered elsewhere.

looking a little more closely and reading a bit more i found these
XWLA4
Android 2.3.6
There is no carrier branding
This package has: PDA: XWLA4| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: Download
XWLA4 Stock Kernel: Download
Password: [email protected]
are these correct for my UK sg2 ?
Do you know how to reset the jig and remove the yellow triangle? its pointless resetting it back to gingerbread if you dont already know how to do this as the warranty will still be voided and noticable.
try samfirmware.com the links seem to still work for me
i know how to get rid of the yellow triangle and ill research resetting the jig i just needed to know if this rom+kernal were UK compatible i only ask because i thought XX was the only code not XW

Both XX and XW are UK Roms:
XX---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, United Kingdom
XW---> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom
As for which Rom you need ... As far as I know the last unbranded version to be released through kies was 2.3.5, I don't think 2.3.6 was ever released. Now I'm not 100% on this as i moved away from kies updates a while ago, so if anyone else knows better then feel free to correct me.
I think the last official kies release was XXKI3 ...
http://androidadvices.com/galaxy-ii-official-235-update-kies/
You can find the ROM here ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23064622&postcount=4
Flash the wipe version which will give you a fresh clean install.
Once you've flashed it, you might want to plug the phone into Kies and double check that it picks it up and it should tell you if that's the latest version or not. If not, then it should prompt you to update to the latest version through Kies.
Hope this helps.
cheers for the fast replies and the info but the links are dead for that rom any other suggestions please
NVR mind found some on samfirmware.com
cheers guys hopefully sorted now

[Q] Is my phone standard?

Hi
I've been jailbreaking iphones since they came out but have switched to android now so I'm a noob again!
I bought a new S2 on ebay (sealed) but I'm not sure it's standard UK, I've attached 2 screen grabs.
Could someone please tell me if my phone is rooted? (the [email protected] is what got me thinking)
In case attachments don't work:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH1-CL431225 [email protected] #2
Also:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
And is it possible for me to ugrade to ICS?
I've tried researching here and other websites. Odin is clearly the way to go and I see lots of XXK** and other 5 digit codes which i guess are region/Firmware specific but mine don't seem to match any of these??
Any help much appreciated.
Pretty standard stuff. XEU stands for UK Unbranded. Firmware is an old one though. Follow links in my signature to proceed. ICS has been released though we are still waiting for a unbranded UK version. Enjoy.

Dell is the name of the system on which this kernel was made. It is currently not rooted.

Yeah, Linux formats things as "username"@"computer". Samsung just compile their kernels logged in as root.

I looks like you have a standard build.
If you really want to check whether your phone is rooted or not, try downloading the "superuser" app from the market (sorry, "Google Play").
If your phone isn't rooted, it'll tell you.

I have been reading in various places that XEU is a Polish version, is that correct? I'm a bit confused as to whether I have UK or Polish version - should be looking at XEUKH1 or XEUKH1 ??
Thanks

For the CSC part, you should be looking at I9100 XEU KH1; U+K is just a mere coincidence.
XEU is the code of the operator or the code of the "unbranded operator" - in my case I use "TPH" which is the unbranded csc for Portugal.
As for the token KH1:
K stands for the year - 2011 (ICS builds are from 2012 so they're L??)
H stands for the month - 11 or Nov (ICS builds have now been following this, though - e.g. LPQ, LP3, ...)
1 is an incremental number for multiple builds in the same month (also, sometimes letters are used)
Thanks.
So with these in mind for my phone:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
PDA - shows I am using Android version 2.3.4
PHONE - shows I have a phone designed to be used in the UK (XXKG5)??
CSC - shows I have an unbranded european phone??
Is that correct?
So if I upgrade my firmware to a stock UK one then all that would change above is PDA??
But if I upgraded to the Polish version of ICS how would that affect what *#1234#?
corype use
As far as i understand, installing any stock version minded for an EU phone should be the same. All they change is the language, however english should be present always.
I've got the same ROM images, and although I believe the XEU ICS has been released by Sammy yesterday, I'm (still) getting the "Your device does not support firmware upgrade" message from KIES.
I've done a hard reset of the phone, re-installed KIES with the latest version ( repeated on two PCs )...
Is there something funny about these ROM images?
Bought from Phones4U as an O2 Upgrade.
If I have to zap it using Odin, is there a way to save the existing ROM images?

[Q] Debranding & 4.3 update (Ireland)

Hi Folks,
I have a question regarding debranding / updating my S3 (4.1.2)
This is all new to me and with the wealth of information here and elsewhere online I'm a little unsure about the correct files to use.
My S3 was originally on O2 Ireland and it has been unlocked so I can use it on Vodafone Ireland.
The phone is on 4.1.2 and Kies and OTA firmware update both state I have the latest firmware.
So now curiosity has gotten the better of me and I want to manually update to 4.3, and while I'm at it, I want to debrand and just have a stock firmware.
Reading online says the Switzerland firmware is stock and bloatware free.
These are the details...
PDA: I9300XXUGNA5
CSC: I9300AUTGNA1
MODEM: I9300XXUGMK6
If I flash with these, is that all I need to do to debrand and have the latest firmware?
There is a 4.3 Vodafone firmware on Sammobile so I suppose I could use that if the Swiss one didn't work.
As a noob to flashing, ROMS, Odin etc etc I appreciate any advide or guidance.
Thanks
Ciaran
No stock rom is debloated, they all have tons of Samsung rubbish included.
Any firmware for the i9300 will work, just make sure the included modem will work in your country. Usually anything European is fine but you may lose OTA due to wrong CSC.
Current phone details are...
AP : I9300XXELLA
CP : I9300XXELLA
CSC : I9300O2IELL1
Hoping for some more advice!
How do I know if the csc is correct?
This is the Vodafone Ireland file,
I9300XXUGNA5_I9300VFGGNB1_VDI
and the (more generic?) Swiss file,
I9300XXUGNA5_I9300AUTGNA1_AUT
I know the Swiss file won't have any branding, but don't know if the modem and csc settings are correct.
The Vodafone one on the otherhand will have the correct settings but lots of VF bloatware and branding.
