Been thinking about this and cant decide, well wonder if anyone knows.
Do people think that the Samsung ROMS de-bloated and stripped to minimum with a decent Kernel, have better battery life than say a AOSP ROM, with a custom Kernel?
Just a thought!?

Where are your results?
The maximum I ever achieved on a Samsung ROM was just under 7 hours screen time with stock battery. Max I've ever got on AOSP is 5 hours screen time. But I've just flashed a new kernel so I have yet to see if that makes a noticeable difference.

See that was my thought. I remember back in the GB days i always seemed to get more battery out of the Samsung lite ROMs than i did with CM7 etc.
I have a 2000Mah Battery and I'm only really seeing 1 day 14 hours on AOSP with 5 hours screen time.
On GB, i would have around 2 days, maybe a little more with the same screen time.

Your results look interesting. Im tempted to flash a Stock ROM (Wanam Lite) most probably and try that with NEAK Kernel, or Abyss (Never tried Abyss)
Battery 69% with 13h of use. Resurrection v1.5 with stock kernel. Awesome!!

Going to try Wanamlite.
Will strip more crap out of it as 235mb is still alot!
Will most probably add NEAK Kernel with Lulzctive tweaks and see what happens!
I still think stock ROM is better for battery life, for some reason!
At least with Vertumus' new theme its more or less similar looking

I'd love to see some 'proper' results though. Wonder why Stock Roms perform better battery wise than AOSP.

Getting excellent battery life with VK ROM and speedmod kernel. Amazing combination.

I was on stock, unrooted. Rarely on wifi since I have a mobile 3g plan. Use email and twitter often. Some surfing (rarely), play bit of games etc. I get 40+ hours out of it.
I just rooted, still stock (for now). Removed all the telco crap and am gonna freeze the useless stuff. Perhaps it will be better.
Only thing is i hate the Stock look, and even with vertumus theme its still not the same!
I hear good things about the LP9 Base.
Not sure whether to try Wanam's LP9 Or Dynamic Slim!

I love SpeedMod kernel. I've been using it with Foxhound ROMs (GB and now ICS) for a while. It just gives great battery life, and I've had no issues with it at all.
i get good batt life an iam on stock 2.3.5 gb but i was neva satisfied wiv custum roms life..but every phone is diff an depends on how u use it,may b custum or stock.....cheeerz
Combination of HYDR0G3NICS + Siyah 3.1rc6 gives me about 6-7 screen on time. Which is quite impressive. GPU + CPU UV. Tweaks. etc.

You don't need any opinion but your own
Too subjective otherwise - no shortcuts, you've got to try them for yourself and see what you get.

does cognition still give that 'stock' look ?
Best battery life is subjective and based on usage, mostly linked to screen on time and usage of mobile data and wifi as long as you don't have rouge apps keeping the phone awake.
Your best best is to try a few of the roms from the dev section.
Personally I have found villian rom and ninphetamine kernel to be a great stock rom based combo and cm nightly to be good, but there are limitations!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
It's very subjective and I feel it depends more on the apps you have installed really. Having said that, I get really good battery life with villainrom lite + ninphetamine 2.01 kernel (pre-BLN)
Vallian rom +1
what's your screen on time on there?
3 h 14 min till now

I've been using lightning rom v5 since last yesterday, and phone was fully charged over night. However in terms of battery life is has been pretty crap for me. Hardly used the phone today and battery life is down to 43 percent already. Only made a few txts and received a couple of calls. Gonna be trying villianrom and cognition over the next few days. Hopefully I see a big difference.

Could you be any less specific?? There's a difference between battery life as in how long can a fully charged battery last, and how many years can you use a battery before it's trash. And the OP and you are clearly talking about a different "battery life".
The OP just wants to last longer with one charge cycle and flashing a ROM has no affect whatsoever on that duration. It will (or could) however affect the total life of your battery, because battery stats are wiped and the battery needs to "re-learn" itself. But that is like 1 month shorter on a total life of 4 years.....scary Like we will walk around with our S2's for 4 years
Speedmod kernal seems the best for me. T22

Hi, I Search sgs2 rom and kernel. My needs is battery life.
On few roms (today) i saw (when rom is new=clean) in battery monitor widget had +100 mA.
I read 2-20 mA is good when phone is not use.
Which rom can give me this Ampers on "sleep"?
now: Now i have 76 mA. Phone not use...
I am on Batista 2.1
And?

truth is, for everyone is different.
There is who got very good battery performance with stock kernel and custom rom, there is who got very god battery performance with custom kernel and custom rom.
And ofc, every variant of the various rom/kernels, got who think battery sux, and who feel battery is fantastic.
I dont think you can have a real answer, best option is to try the most popular combinations.
As for me, im very happy with batista70 and stock rooted KI3 kernel (cf-root)
In short, you have to experiement and find out the combination that gives you best battery performance, also because there is not 2 identical phones, and every phone can act different.

jje
here I leave a list of roms to have an idea all the roms that have come thanks to the developers .. and teams: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439516
The best i've tested go to two categories:
Performance - Ace-Of-Spades V1 (I use this currently)
Battery - RAZRv3 (since it is CM7.1 based; to me it seems battery is even better than stock)
I have not seen bugs on either of those.
I myself cant use stock roms because they have all given my phone SOD... Official stock 2.3.5 gave me like 10 SOD per day (unless i turn off both wifi and bluetooth), custom stock based roms are way better but still SOD (with gingerreal v2 i had two SOD during 1 month). I've stoped trying stock based roms because of this...
But luckily CM7, CM9, AOSP, Lewa rom... none of them have this problem.

AOS does seen to have pretty good battery usage but none of the roms that i have tested lasted as long as RAZRv3. I left my phone in the office one weekend. When i left the phone had 32% battery.. I left on friday and came back on monday and the battery was 29% with wifi active (3g not active) and that 29% lasted for a whole day and when I got home after 8 hour workday i had 12% left and the battery stats showd that i had been on battery for 5days and 2 hours. Never ever have i gotten close to that on any of the roms i've tested.
I really dont know what makes RAZRv3 so good. I'd ask in the thread but i can't since i don't have 10 posts (can't post in developers). I think it has something to do with deep sleep mode, but can't be sure....

I think stock kernal is probably your best bet for battery life...
Hi everyone!
1st post on xda, but I'm new in android world!
Anyway, I'm using Omega ROM v27.2 (JB)/stock kernel and I experienced some battery drain issues. After getting BBS, I didn't able to point out what was the cause.
After many readings, I found a possible solution: in advanced WiFi settings, they advised to disable "Keep WiFi on during sleep". By default it's set on "always". They advise to set it to "never" but I prefer set it to "only when plugged in". I think it's more logical!
I don't know yet if it's efficient but I'm trying this and I'll come back later to tell you.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
you could use phenomenal kernel for better battery life. it is better than stock kernel in terms of battery life but you need to check compatibility with the custom rom you choose
Foxhound Essential .2 with latest siyah kernel
Best Battery life I ever tried - I've used Foxhound, Criskelo, and Omega JB roms but the Foxhound Essential is the fastest, ram free (430mb), best battery life performance around (8hours extensive use with mobile date turned on). Try it its great! Thanks

Try latest siyah kernel - plus Foxhound Essential ver .2 - No bloatware and best battery life performance..
I flashed Phenomenal Extreme kernel yesterday but to test it properly I have to wait for Monday when I'll be at work.
I'm not a fanatic of battery life, I just want to find the right mix between performance & battery life. For now, I found the phenom extreme not enough smooth, I'll probably change it for the medium one in few days.

My best results with battery life has been with Phenomenal Extreme and VikingROM. I got about 6 hours screentime with wifi, sync, and lots of gaming. Though i think you can make almost any rom or kernel last about 5-6 hours screentime if you check your running processes and apps running in the backround.
I hv tried lots of roms
Psycho rom XXDLJ1 v 0.0.1 is one of the best
it gives u maximum performance and an amazing battary life
Though you can flash different ROMS and kernels to experiment with battery performance, most reputable ROMS like AOKP or CM10 Wong yield much difference. Too many other variables. I've heard Trinity kernel is a good one, but I just got an extended battery. I found it to be the most sure way of extending battery life.

I found the stock kernel and Rom gave me the best battery performance at around 10 hours with WiFi on and surfing internet and maybe a quick go of a game or two.

The absolute best battery you can get is with Kernels that have MMC_CAP_ERASE enabled.Trust me. It might take you a while to find one but when you do, woah. Be sure to do a few data wipes after you've flashed the said kernel to get the most optimal battery life. I promise you it works, I did that and haven't needed to charge my phone for over a month now.

Hi Guys,
I'm a new member so I cannot post in the Development Thread of the Super Nexus 2.0 ROM for the Galaxy S2 GT - I9100.
Galaxy S2's battery life is horrible as experienced by most people and I am no exception. So I was looking for a Good ROM with best battery life.
My search ended with Super Nexus 2.0 ROM. Its a very good and stable ROM. But its been almost a month since i installed the ROM but the battery life is almost the same as the Stock ROM. Tried some battery saver apps, but not satisfied. I would not like to change the ROM as its brilliant expect the battery life. So thinking of changing the kernel (Never done that before), so what do you guys think which Kernel is the best for Super Nexus 2.0 ROM and Battery Life.
Thanks.
