[Q] ICS Samsung Mail app and Gmail Exchange - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
after upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 from 2.3.6, when I configure the account with server "m.google.com" (we have Google Apps Enterprise), the email client stuck on "Receive from server" with the spinning wheel..
Anyone has this issue? How to solve?

Maybe you have to remove the Google account and re-create it again.
Try to configure the Gmail account for mail sync with the default settings of ICS.
Do not use the manual configuration on the first try.
If the (push) mail sync works fine after automatic configuration, then try to create a second account for your Google Apps Enterprise and configure it manually.
Maybe this can help.
Good luck !

[Q] Sync Outlook Contact and Calendar with Google

Dear all members,
Just to check whether how we can sync my outlook contacts and calendars with my Google account.
I have tried Google App Sync but I have encounter an error which need the Google app sync to be enabled in the email account..
Anyone know what I should do or any easy software to sync the contacts and calendars between Google and Outlook?
i think this was only turned on from 2.1 up then it was enhanced in 2.2
If you are planning on doing this only once a workaround is to export your Outlook contacts to a comma separated .csv file and upload this file to Google contacts. Works very nice, but I understand you might need to do it a smoother way if you need to sync Outlook and Google often.

Hi,
Yes, I will prefer that there will be a software which will continously sync the contacts in my Outlook with Google and that is why Google App Sync caught my mind.
But I know that I can only use it if my Google account is the premier and not the normal type.
Anyone know whether there is other software which can do the task?

Try turning Outlook off then on again?
I have noticed when ever I start Outlook now I get a popup asking about which "profile" (i think is the word used) to enable; google sync or outlook?
Syncing between X10i and Outlook (business phone is foked without this ability imo) is the main reason I am travelling along the rooting road at the moment... not started the search for the software yet.
Have installed google sync but not used yet as I am uncomfortable storing 20+ years worth of valuable networking details in that giants hands
Good luck

Thanks. I managed to find 3rd party software called Companion link but required to purchase in order to use. If the software is good, I dun mind paying for it.
Guys,
I have managed to try out the CompanionLink software whereby you can synchronize the outlook contacts and calendars with your Google account, it work perfectly so with this software, there is no hassle either you do update on your phone or PC using Outlook.
check it out if you are interested :
http://www.companionlink.com/
However, you can try it for 15 days and if you like it, you will have to purchase the license which I will be intending to purchase this software.

Guys, I just turned on my X10 first time.
When I go to Calendar app it asks me to login to Google account.
That may be strange question for users here, but - do I HAVE to login to Google
to use Calendar on X10?!
i'm using MyPhoneEx and it works well and it is free
I also use MyPhoneExplorer

?! I was asking about Calendar application...
Yeap. I use MyPhoneEx to sync outlook contact/Calendar directly into my X10. If I want to sync contact/calendar with Google, I just goto Setting ->Accounts & Sync and press sync contacts (or Calendar).
That's why your X10 asked you to log-in to google when you turned it on. If you've not log-in to Google, the calendar in X10 is still working fine but you cannot sync it with google contact (or calendar).

[Q] Galaxy S3 does not work in push email google apps

It seems to me strange that I can not believe it ... (and hope I am wrong).
I tried to set up my google apps account as an account of the GS3 activesync email application.
simple options that are usually on the other device (username, domain, password, service ect) here are different ... mahh ... in the "Domain \ user name" ... I tried all combinations: domain.xx \ name \[email protected] with the bar, no bar, with 2 points, commas, capital letters etc etc. ...
The exchange server is the same m.google.com and works on all phones in the world except this one ...
the result always is:"can not connect to server"
If you have suggestions, perhaps borrowed from GS2, are available to test

Why are you doing that?
Setting -> Accounts and Sync -> goggle
Enter in your email and password
I have my Google Apps account on it now using that, has push email/cal etc
yes in gmail app... no in e-mail app
yes, it works in gmail app. What does not work is a google apps account (exchange activesync) in the touchwiz e-mail app
Is not a solution but I tried with k-9 mail and it work ... But I would like to use the samsung e-mail application
I use google mail exchange with the Samsung email app with no issues. Pushes email.
Is that what you are trying? In Samsung email settings, add new account. Enter google email and password, then select manual setup, hit exchange etc

Certainly, gmail works.
What is not working is "Google apps" account (accounts that use google servers www.google.com/a)
It does work. Go to settings, accounts and sync and setup Google there but don't sync gmail . Untick this option. I have reader, finance, and about 6 other Google services all syncing

does it work? exchange with the Samsung email app and GOOGLE APPS account? how can email work if I untick this option?
With the Samsung email app I have gmail setup as exchange. Within the system accounts Google is setup. Goto the gmail app and setup your email. This initially doubles up as your email its setup with the Samsung email account too . Now go to system settings, accounts and sync and within Google untick mail. Try it then key me know it is working. If you can't get it to work you are doing something wrong .

I do not think we understand, it may be my bad English ... However, the problem is not Gmail in exchange on the Samsung email app (it does work fine); the problem is a GOOGLE APPS account (it's a account that have [email protected] and domain.xx is different to gmail.com).
"google apps" account is different from gmail account. the first in exchange with Samsung email app work, the second with Samsung email app work only in IMAP (without push)... i want it in push, as on xperia s, one s etc...
I paste my Google apps settings that do not work
Address: [email protected]
password: mypassword
manual configuration
Domain \ user name: \[email protected] (but I tried it without the bar, with bar, with mydomain.xx\myname etc ... I think I have done all the tests imaginable)
Password: mypassword
Server: m.google.com
SSL: yes
Certificates: yes (but I tried with no)
Doesn't work for my google apps account either. Looks like a bug to me.

it's the same bug of GS2 with ICS..
you cannot connect anymore to a Google Apps account using ActiveSync (Exchange)
the only method is to remove Samsung Email apps, and push Email AOSP..
hope Samsung will fix it asap, because HTC One X works like a charm with ActiveSync and Google Apps
Does anyone know of any fixes at the moment, or sometime soon?
there is no fix untill samsung update...
now work
With the new update ALF5 now the situation seems solved ... I intend to test it better, but now it synchronizes and mail arrive.
You will not believe this
I have been searching and searching and finally found a solution.
Its **** simple.
Carefully follow the directions found here and use the gmail app to add a new account. It worked for me! I played around with every imaginable setting in the mail app and had no success.
I cannot post links... samsung.com/us/support/supportOwnersHowToGuidePopup.do?howto_guide_seq=5790
If you go through the mail app they limit you to only gmail addresses, this is not the case if you go through the gmail app and add a google apps account
My next question is how to view all emails in one box in the gmail app...

How can i update to ALF5? I'm currently on ALE8 and when I go to Software Update, it says there is no update available. Do I have to use Kies or something? Is it only available in some parts of the world? Thanks.
I was also looking for a solution and now Samsung has done her "homework".
Now with Firmware:
GT-I9300 - Open Germany
PDA: I9300XXALF6
CSC: I9300DBTALF4
Version: 4.0.4
Date: 2012-06-27
it works like a charme
So now is all OK and i hope Samsung bring the same solution on the Galaxy S2.

@TaLEntZ96
you can flash any firmeware with the tool "Odin",
use the Forum or Google and you will find a solution.
I am also unable to get my google apps account to sync with the samsung email app via activesync. Any suggestions would be great!

[Q] Exchange calendar not syncing - Resurrection Remix ICS v2.4[4.0.4]

I have my i9100 with Resurrection Remix ICS v2.4[4.0.4] installed and tried to set up my work's Exchange account on it.
I specifically configured it so that it synchronizes the Exchange calendar too, but when I go to the phone's calendar, it only shows the ones from my Gmail account, not the Exchange one.
From the calendar application, if I go to Menu - Calendars to display - Calendars to sync, it does NOT show my Exchange account with its calendar.
If I go to Menu - Settings it shows my both accounts (Gmail and Exchange) but when I go to the Exchange one, it shows the message "No calendars" as if the account doesn't have a calendar to show. I'm positive that the Exchange server didn't change because until Friday I had an official ICS 4.0.3 rom and I was able to sync and add events to my Exchange calendar.
Any help on how to fix this or some workaround? I really need my Exchange calendar to be fully functional.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Lots of views and no answers? Please help me solve this or at least mention if it won't ever work...
Thanks
I'm experiencing the same issue. Have you managed to find a fix for this yet?
Why not post this in the rr thread? They're going to be able to help more than here

Thanks!

stocks apps wont work in aokp
I tried with that app and it's just a widget, but it doesn't fix anything. Maybe another third party that completely replaces the built-in calendar? I can't believe that the rom calendar can't sync with exchange just like that. Any reason to justify it? Is this for all AOKP roms?
Thanks.

Same thing. That calendar doesn't make use of its own provider for Exchange. It keeps relaying on rom builtin system. Is there a way to install the provider/connector for Exchange? I noticed that even when it looks similar to stock, the calendar app used in this rom is a mod or something belonging to the hydrogenics author (paradoxxx). Maybe there's a workaround for this?
I think I found the solution to this, cryptically posted on another forum.
But essentially, in Accounts and Sync, where you're only seeing your Google Accounts and not the exchange one, turn sync off and then re-add the exchange account to the list. It won't work if you have sync turned on, it will just tell you that exchange account has already been synced.
Once you've re-added the account you'll be free to turn sync back on and it should work the way it did before you upgraded to ICS.

I've had this problem for the past month, and I finally figured it out....no thanks to HTC, AT&T or my Exchange Active Sync provider. They all told me it was their problem, but another provider's issue. I was about to throw them all under the bus.
My problem was that the Exchange ActiveSync calendar stopped syncing, although the email and contacts worked fine. Appointments from my phone would sync to Outlook, but any appointment I put in Outlook would not sync to my phone.
This is my solution:
On my HTC Vivid, android version ICE, 4.0.3, AT&T cellular provider.
I went to: Home, Menu, Settings, Apps, All Apps, Calendar Storage.
Clear Data in Calendar Storage. This should erase the Exchange Calendar from your phone. I did not even have the Exchange Calendar as an option to view when I opened my Calendar.
Now, Remove the Exchange Account, and re-install it. No need to turn the phone off in between. My calendar worked perfectly after that.
If you really want to be thorough, clear the data on the Calendar and Calendar Widget, also.
I could not clear the cache in Calendar Storage, Calendar or Calendar Widget - it was not an available option for me.
I hope this helps!!!

Hey scribbclubber,
- First, why did you change to outlook? is not mandatory and if u want you can revert back by options on web page of hotmail
- Second, did you get any error when tried to configure automatically using "@outlook"?

try manual set up....
usually when selecting incoming select SSL security and out going its TLS

Go to add the exchange account, and when it takes you to the additional details page make sure your user name is \[email protected]
Then the server should be snt-m.hotmail. com, NOT what he has in the screenshot.
Leave everything else default and it works!
@ why did i change? absolutetly no idea
tried to revert back as you said but nothin to do... solved now, followed link given by ace10134
@ace thanks man it works

Exchange & Android

Here is my dilema...our company has some strict security policies when our phones are connected to the exchange servers. I want no lock pin.
Option 1 - bypass security without root somehow...I tried unsuccessfully several methods I found online
Option 2 - use 3rd party apps for Mail, Contacts, and Calendar.
I am working on Option 2 as I have not been able to figure out Option 1...if anyone has any ideas please send them over!
I downloaded Touchdown and this seems to be the closest to what I want...I have 2 exchange accounts and 1 gmail account. I want my 2 exhange accounts to be in 1 mail app, and my gmail to be in its own app. I want all 3 calendars in 1 calendar app. Touchdown does separate my exchange accounts however I cannot import my gmail calendar into the calendar App. Plus its $20.
I have Aqua Mail installed and that is doing well for email but I dont have contacts and no calendar. I have not been able to find any calendar app that allows for the access of my exchange calendar without it being connected to the phone prior to adding the app. Basically all apps do at best is as follows: SYNCS WITH GOOGLE CALENDAR AND EXCHANGE [ VIA THE LOCAL ANDROID CALENDAR APP ]
Anyone know of any apps that may suit my needs? Or if Option 1 is possible and working then I would def give that a go and use native apps for everything.
Thanks in advance.

Try loking at Nine Mail. It might be your Option 1 as it has application level security and it makes your exchange calendar appear as native android calendar.

I thought this was the ticket after setting up my first account and somehow bypassing the pin lock, but when I went to configure my second account...I was not able to go around entering a new pin before adding the account. It seems like this is acting the same way as the stock app.
Found enhanced email...found the 7 day trial and so far so good...i get all my e-mail from my 2 exchange accounts in 1 place, and the calendars integrated into the stock calendar app so they are combined with my google calendar as well all in 1 place....and NO PIN LOCK! Now...do I want it for $10? probably
