It can and will be done, however everyone's idea of crapware varies. You can remove the apps you don't want by using RootExplorer and delete the unwanted .apks in /system/app
Or titanium backup if u don't know what's safe/unsafe to remove. You can freeze to test.

thanks! good idea with titanium backup! and I tried /system/app but it says its read only, i know everything about permission and all and i just think its because the apps where running in back ground but ill try with titanium backup i remember it was easier last time i did it

If you are using RootExplorer, click the mount r/w icon up at the top right. You have to use a file explorer that supports changing read permissions to writeable. Otherwise Titanium Backup is a great and safe alternative.
What all IS safe to remove that won't break anything? I froze a bunch of stuff and then all hell broke loose and I had to reflash everything so I don't want to risk removing essential stuff again...
ill make a list if you guys want and post up

I always use this! You could always edit the text file to add or remove applications you don't want.
I just posted a list of everything that I have found is safe to remove here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25316549&postcount=87
I think system tuner is free or really cheap, in the one click part of the app you can backup, freeze, or uninstall system apps if you have root..

He said adding apk's, not removing them lol
Yes, you can add the apps you want to the zip so that they will install with the rom. This should not cause any problems but Just do like he ^^^ said and always make a back-up first just in case

I want to remove all the bloatware from my HTC DX (rooted and TWRP installed). I used Titanium Backup but as S-ON is there you get the same stuff back after rebooting, I read here somewhere that you can remove those bloatware from Recovery.
Now I am in the TWRP menu, I mounted all the partitions, Went to the Apps folder and found all the bloatwares I need to remove. Since it is odexed, I was wondering if it is safe to remove them?
Do I need to remove the APK as well as .odex file? Will it reappear after reboot?
I have a nandroid backup, Will it be able to restore all the files if I mess up and restore from nandroid? Wondering since S-ON is enabled.
Thanks!

Yes you need to remove both the apk+odex file for it to be permanently removed.
Add: if you only delete the apk file, it will come back after reboot. So make sure to delete both apk and odex file of the app you want to permanently removed

By permanently you mean even after reboots right? Also will the nandroid restore bring them back?
Thanks a lot

I have made a new idea on removing bloatwares. The idea is that the user can select the apps that are to be deleted in aroma. I have already made a project regarding this but only for my device. You can port it to your device and maybe share this with everyone.

With some changes, it will work great and our community can develop!!

A lot of people use Titanium to freeze apps; not sure what's happening if they're coming back.
I, on the other hand, rename the apks in root explorer (change the name to camera.apk.bak, for example). Another viable (and easier) option is to find the app in settings -> app -> all and disable it. With both methods, they can easily be reenabled if the mood strikes you.
The stock kernel has write protection so if you delete apps they come back.

Sorry if this is a stupid question... but I tried to uninstall some of the included apps like Facebook, Twitter, Yellow Pages and such... it works for a few minutes, in that the apps disappear from Settings->Apps->All ... but next time I check after an hour or so, they're back!
I thought I was going crazy but it seems there's just something running and making sure to install this crap. Does anyone know what it is and how it can be disabled?
I'm using stock AT&T ROM with TRWP 2.7.0.2 and root. Thanks.

Actually we just need kernel source to build a kernel that has system read write protect off. S-OFF would be nice but isnt necessarily needed.
Actually we do not need kernel source...read write module is being worked on now...and yeah for some it is [email protected]

Found a workaround way just go to app management and click disable it. And let's wait for better solution.

Oh, of course. Thanks for clarifying.
If I just delete the files in recovery, which lets me mount /system read-write, is that sufficient or should I wait until Titanium is able to do its own thing?
I wouldnt...it may bork the rom, id wait till the module is finished and use the suggestion of disabling in app management

There is a program called ROM Cleaner that might work for you.
You can freeze the bloatware in Titanium Backup this will keep the program on your phone but it will be hidden from Play Store updates or general use.
An issue you may run across if you delete the bloatware and you decide to do an OTA update those bloatware files may be needed to complete the OTA! So, you might want to figure out a way to keep the files intact someplace so you can re-install them if needed.
