A while back I've updated the phone to Android 2.3.3. Everything worked great, no problems whatsoever but a few months later, when I tried to start the camera, everything went wrong (see video at the bottom of this post). It's been like that for maybe 3 weeks and then it went back to normal.. it worked fine for 2-3 days then it went crazy again.. after about 1 week, it worked fine again. Now it's not working as it should (I don't see the video, just static/random colors). I've tried SE Update Service but it didn't fix the issue. I've been searching the internet for about 2 weeks now and I wasn't able to find anyone who is experiencing the same problem. I have a few apps installed but none of them control the camera.
Recently I installed FeraLab and the problem is still there. I bought a camera (spare part) but I don't really want to start taking the phone apart if there is another (easier) fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Got the tab a week ago. The front facing camera was working fine, tried it again today and the color was all screwed up. Is this a hardware or software problem? The back camera still works fine. The picture attached was taken from the front camera.
I would think it is a software issue. Did you install any rom or photo software?
Nope. Havent installed any camera apps or messed with any settings.
If you have root, and you can try flashing a fresh rom.
I have exactly the same issue on my Nexus S. Back camera also works fine. I have stock 4.1.2. Never flashed anything else. Phone version is I9023XXKI1. I know it worked flawlessly for months in skype. Then it changed to this weird color mode for some calls and back without any apparent reason. Now it doesn't change anymore. It just stays this way. I tried to change many settings, nothing helps. I'm also attaching image.
This is the only post I found that seems to be the same as my problem. The hardware is different (well, they are both from Samsung) but result is the same.

Since about a week ago my SGS2 answer an incoming calls with the speakerphone turned on by default, and there's no way I can change it.
I use lightning rom 1.5 for a few months and everything was perfect until now.
Please help!

Oh I had this same issue just last week, out of nowhere. Here's what I did: plug the USB cord in & out the phone a few times, it should get okay. Just google it too, there's a bunch of HTC users who have reported the same issue but the plug in/out solution works for S2 as well.
Do you all use Go SMS Pro?....if so then its a software issue...
Update the application to the latest one and your issue will be resolved.
I used to have Go SMS pro, but I removed it long ago.
I heard about the problem it makes - similar to mine, so I tried to install and uninstall it again, but it didn't help.
I tried the USB connect/unconnect advice - didn't help.
I tried to install several auto-speakerphone apps to bypass the problem
Most didn't succeed, except from "save your brain" that worked OK for a while and than stopped. It also had annoying notification icon, and many Chinese notes, so I uninstalled it too.
Can't find the solution yet
I'd love more suggestions.

i had the same issue for about the same period, it started kinda a week ago, but in the past days i noticed that it just returned to normal
i updated gosms on 29aug to the last version, i guess this was all the fix i needed, stock 2.3.3 atm

I Managed to solved the problem using Elixir widget.
One of the possible widgets is Speaker widget.
Once I turned it off - the problem stopped.

Hello everyone. I've looked everywhere and tried everything I can to fix my issue but with no luck. My camera doesn't work at all and the flash would only stay on for a few seconds using a torch app. At first I found a loose cable but a few hours later it stopped working again and I found the cable was partially loose again but just wouldn't work after that and the cable stays connected. I've tried a factory reset and I've also even replaced the actual camera. I also tried checking samsung apps for a camera update and couldnt find anything. After flashing with a nightly build of CyanogenMod 10.1 the flash will stay on with the included torch app with no problem but still no camera. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Anyone please? I've been stuck with this problem for 6 months and don't want to have to buy a whole new phone just to get a working camera. Its the only camera i have and I need it soon.
I've got the exact same problem and I haven't found a solution to it, seems like even changing the camera module won't do the trick
I saw a post here from someone that changed the Camera module and seems like it didnt work.

Yeah I changed my camera module and it didn't work either.
My camera on my dorid 3 works fine when taking still pictures. but when i press record, it closes and goes to home screen. The phone has recently been rooted. Maybe i accidently deleted some camera files? It runs stock 2.3.4 ROM. i just got the phone 3 days ago also
Hey there! Since I got the phone I've had random reboot issues on Stock so I've switched to crDroid. But lately even on this custom ROM, I am experiencing camera freezing issues at 55 minute mark on WhatsApp/Zoom video calls. My video gets cut and the phone lags horribly and then after about 10 minutes, somehow it fixes itself. Has anyone else had the same issues ? Is there a fix for this ? I've had this issue on both Stock May update w/locked BL and on crDroid and EvolutionX. Thanks in advance.

but it's even worse for me
always lagging in videocalls and camera cuts off completly after some time
i'm running stock android 10 ROM
Me too since about 2 weeks, maybe because of last security update (stock Android)
During video call the camera sometimes freezes, black picture.
It is also not possible to take photos after this happened. gcam and stock cam forced close.
After reboot everything is fine.
