Greetings all, I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem, and if anyone might have a simple fix other than sending it in for an RMA, and if possible without having to open the device. I doubt there is a solution... And while I can change the volume through the software itself this issue is not absolutely critical, but come on... This should definitely not be a problem.
Anyways, my volum rocker seems to be falling apart. It was originally working very well, however it has recently started to become problematic. It almost feels like it is jammed up or not positioned properly. I don't know how the feature works internally so i don't really know the terminology to use here, but I have had quite a few different Android & Apple devices and never experienced a problem like this with the volume rocker. Basically, I will push up on the rocker and it doesn't actually do anything, it's like it doesn't actually push in. If I look at it, it may look like its jammed in the upward position, and if this is its current position I can push down and it usually will work, and I can feel a faint pop as it comes back into place. This can also happen with the down position.
I have not dropped the device, have not had any accidents with the device, I am not exerting much pressure on the button, it just feels like it is not put together properly or like it may have slipped out of its natural fitting or something. Has anyone else experienced this before? It's rather frustrating and turns my stomach when I think about how much I spent on this thing and the freaking volume buttons don't even work... Sigh...

I haven't heard of it happening on the Prime. Other devices yea, but nit the Prime. Hopefully it's not another wide spread problem. I dropped my docked Prime TWICE in one week,(ashamed) and I have a very similar issue with the space bar on the dock now. The right side doesn't really depress, and it doesn't function. But seeing as it's only the dock, it doesn't bother me, and I feel like I can easily open the keyboard up and fix it if I really want to. I understand I am very lucky to only have this space bar problem after 2 drops onto concrete.
Good luck man.
EDIT: In the meantime, you can try Widgetsoid or the like. There's a nice toggle widget with ALL the system volumes on one widget...notifications, media, alarms, etc with sliders. I use it and my volume rocker is fine, that's how useful it is IMO.

As discussed in the following link,
http://community.developer.motorola...for/Spurious-ACTION-UP-MotionEvents/td-p/8038 ,
there is an issue with some moto phones and the Photon is affected. If you hold down a button, for example, like the talk button in Tikl, a BUTTON_UP event will be generated after 20 or so seconds.
As mentioned in the above link, this is Motorola's attempt at preventing false touches and they say that for now, they are not addressing it. This can obviously be bad for users of Tikl as well as some games.
I mention this for two reasons. First, I would have liked to know this before buying and others may as well. Though some may disagree, I find this to be huge. It isn't enough to return the otherwise amazing phone. But had I known beforehand, I may have thought about it more.
Second, I am wondering if it is possible for any of the devs to address this? Or would this be a part of the software that only Motorola can address?
Thank you for any input on this.
Any information on this? Certainly I would think the inability to use apps that require long touches might generate some interest?
Well perhaps this bug is really just a feature of In-Pocket Protection. I wonder if this happens with In-Pocket Protection disabled. I keep it disabled because I use a holster and haven't noticed any problems. When I saw that post on the Motorola forums I assumed that person had In-Pocket Protection enabled and didn't realize it can be disabled in the settings menu. I didn't say anything because I don't know what the hell Tikl is and didn't want to impart false wisdom on the lad.
If I hold the volume up button when on home screen the ringer volume appears and doesn't disappear until I release. After holding it for 40 seconds I choose to release which is acknowledged by an audible tone. In other words I fail to see a problem.
First of all, to explain, Tikl Touch to Talk is a walkie talkie like program. The buttons I refer to are on screen buttons. One example is the talk button that appears onscreen while in Tikl. If you press it and start talking as you are supposed to, after about 20 seconds, the phone's software will send a button up event telling the program that you stopped touching the button on the screen and thus release the microphone. The same will likely happen in android games that use on screen game pads or anything program that has on screen buttons where you sometimes need to hold them down for more than 20 seconds.
So in pocket detection does not seeem to fix it. I wonder if some kernel tweak can be done?
Ahh so now I understand exactly what you are talking about. What I don't understand is why it happens to me in 12-13 seconds. I've to press and hold my finger on the soft keys of multiple apps and sure enough in every application that I've tried, it automatically has the Button_Up event in 12 seconds or so.
Why is mine faster than others? Why is it even happening at all? I'm running the leaked MR-3 build. What about you?
Yeah. That's more or less the case for me too. Motorola in that thread claims 20 seconds but that's often not the case. I hope this can be addressed by some of the devs. I wonder if this has been tackled with the other Droid series phones since I think they suffer from this "feature" as well.

It's quite annoying when using Heytell
Yeah. Heytell is another one of those apps where this problem shows up. It's a shame since this is not a fault with the hardware but rather a conscious decision made by Motorola in their programming. I see where they're going with wanting to protect against false touches but they really should let us turn it off even if it's on a per program basis. How on earth this isn't a bigger issue than it is is beyond me.
I noticed the up and down volume buttons on my new atrix were not even. Now many months later it appears as if they are no longer working. Before I take it apart I would like to ask if anyone knows what could have gone wrong, if I may need replacement parts, or any info on the physical makeup of the volume control that may help me fix it.
It seems that when I push one of the buttons very hard and at an angle, it starts working again, at least for a while. So maybe a loose part or a damaged or bent part. Just trying to find out any info i can before I take it apart. The phone has always been treated gently, no water damage or anything. It's my baby of course )
thanks

had my atrix for a year and a half, its never given me problems until now! nooooooooo
not sure how it happened but instead of the power button clicking when you press it, it has just randomly stopped clicking, the button still works but you have to push it really hard and it feels awful, my guess is that something has gotten underneath! iv tried scraping around the fingerprint scanner gaps with a needle to clear out any dirt but no luck im afraid
any ideas how i can fix this?
Well, since no one else has chimed in, I'll try to help. I tried finding a detailed picture of the button mechanism, but unfortunately I can't find one hi-res enough to look at. It sounds like you may have gotten some sand in the button or even in the switch itself. You might be able to low it out with compressed air while someone works the button, but again, it's hard to say without really being able to see exactly how it's put together and you don't want to take it apart unless you absolutely have to.
Dear all,
I've been waiting a little before rooting and installing a new ROM to make sure I don't need to return my phone for any reason. (So, it is stock now, no root, locked bootloader, KNOX still there, etc.)
So, far I've noticed three small problems, which I don't know if they are universal or just mine:
Sometimes when I get a call, the touch screen is irresponsive. If I press the lock/power button twice, it seems to work again. (I now have set up to press home to answer.)
It often feels a bit warm, more than I'd expect. (I have it in a case, though, a Spigen Slim Armor. It fits perfectly though.) But this happens sometimes when it is just sitting, not playing games. It is not really hot, but I can feel it warm in my pocket.
Sometimes I get a pop between songs. See this post
(So, at least one person also has the last problem.)
I can live with any of the problems above, but I'd hesitate to have a defective unit which can have bigger problems later on. Is any of the above an issue for you? Any suggestions if I should exchange the phone?
Thanks!
Luis
Do you remember when were the times when the screen was unresponsive?
I've read somewhere that sometimes when the screen is woken up and is under some pressure this will happen, and the only way is to do what you did. It's not uncommon in touchscreen phones though, so I wouldn't worry about it.
The verge app was broken until the most recent app update. Also, the s5 seems to refuse allowing Dashlane's accessibility service from working properly. So no more auto filling passwords for me. Ugh. I hoped rooting might help but it didn't. Now I really can't wait for custom ROMs to start appearing. Samsung, you make great hardware (like amoled displays) but your software sucks. Even the software on my Samsung TV is stupid.
Yes on two out of three!

The unresponsive screen is more than a little issue, it is being reported all over the web, and get's more severe over time. I'm thinking that it is a bad proximity sensor defect, either firmware, hardware or software. Some people are reporting along with myself that sometimes for no apparent reason, the screen will not turn on even though the phone is completely operational! This has happened to me four times now and I am stock with very few apps on my phone, five total games and Pandora. I do use a substitute launcher that I've used for years but I don't believe that would be the issue since others report the same issue with stock launcher.
The pop or skipping you speak of in sound happens to many of us who stream music in our automobiles. It even happens on the note3. The fix is simple for that one though! Turn the screen on. I was told that with many of the streaming software music programs that the phones CPU goes to sleep and does not offer enough processing power to the music program. I stream all day via bluetooth to my Auto's sound system and it will usually start to skip, click or whatever after the phone has been untouched for about twenty minutes. The second I turn the screen on the problem alleviates itself. You can find even more information by googling that one, in fact both of those! The heat one I have not had, both with stock battery and zero lemon high capacity battery. The phone very rarely get's warm. However, when I was using wireless charging it would get warm even after charging was complete but I believe that is a normal event with QI type tech.
Been suffering from dead areas on touchscreen for many, many months. Mostly concentrated in one area (above the 'n" button) but right over stuff that i need to navigate and work an app. The only workaround seems to be constantly turn it sideways, upside down, etc. to be able to effectively navigate. A real pain in the a** in my opinion.
I have not yet run across any true fixes for this issue, just tests that confirm what I already know. Is it time for the electronic junkyard? I'm willing to give it one last try but frankly a new cheap tablet seems a better option than struggling with a permanent problem. Suggestions?
