so people have asked me a lot, here is what you do if your device is S-ON
You NEED AN EXTERNAL SD CARD
1- Download the ICS RUU and rename it "PH85IMG"
2- put in external sd card
3- Relock bootloader by typing - " fastboot oem lock"
4- once your bootloader is relocked you will be able to apply the update
any questions feel free to ask
NOTE
if you don't have anything unlocked you just put it on to your sd card. Either ext_sd or sdcard2 in astro
Pull battery,
Put battery back in <---important
hold down volume down then hold power until you go into hboot.
After that it does everything for you.
If you have music or pics on your phone, put them on your pc or they will be deleted.
Might I add if you don't have anything unlocked you just put it on to your sd card. Either ext_sd or sdcard2 in astro

You do not need a pc to upgrade to ics!!!
It can all be done from your amaze!!!!!
If you have music or pics on your phone, put them on the sdcard or they will be deleted.

So If I just got my Amaze ( I did, last night) and done nothing to it meaning completely stock, do I just put that file onto root of my external sd and boot into bootlader? ( I have S-On)

type in "cmd" in your search if your using windows, then type it in

So, by "if you don't have anything unlocked" mean completely stock, S-OFF, and no root?
Just a little clarification for this nube.

Cool. I appreciate it. I just found Silentbtdeadly mentioned that in the ICS thread... Only concern now is the warranty issue... Also, I assume this will prevent system updates in the future?
Last time I did flashed an "official" file, my Epic 4G completely went nuts, and was stuck on 2.2 for good.

If you unlocked the bootloader even once your warrenty is already dead, either way it only kills half your warranty, if something fails software wise there is no warranty

Bootloader Unlocked
Rooted and running the Energy Rom
S-On
......
Downloaded the RUU
Renamed it to PH85IMG and PH85IMG.zip (tried both)
Put it in my External SD
Relocked bootloader with AIO Kit
..... NOTHING COMES UP!
Go to Hboot screen, if nothing pops up then you named it wrong
When you have it on sdcard and you go to hboot give it like 15 minutes untill it ask you for an update, don't touch it for another 15 minutes then let it reboot

Do you have one of the ~400mb Pg01img files on your sd card? If so you might be able to go into fastboot in your phone and update to this.

If not, he could just mount his SD card on a computer externally and put the RUU file that he needs onto the SD card, and flash it from there. But without more information about what he was doing... kinda hard to say.

Getting the ruu on the sdcard and then fastboot would be the best way to start over.
Find a PG05IMG.zip that's stock with s-on, place it on root of sdcard boot to fastboot and should put you back to stock unrooted s-on.

Just rename it to PG05IMG and then try flashing in hboot.

PG05DIG.zip? Or PG05IMG.zip?
Rename it to PG05IMG and take .zip off.
Then go into hboot and see if it finds the update.

Put your sd card in your pc or mount it, which ever is your favorite way to see/load files from your pc. Open the drive and find the folder options. Click view, and check "show common file types" or something to at effect.
I have found doing this as a general setting on your pc to be very helpful. Your pc will still show you the file as a zip even if it is name.zip.zip. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. I believe it was the HTC Dev Unlock tool; how would I go about relocking?
Edit: For anyone stumbling upon this, I relocked the device from fastboot using "fastboot oem lock", then when the device rebooted to the bootloader ran the executable from the link below. Problem solved, I'm back at stock gingerbread.

Sooo, playing with rooting, been rooted for a couple days, flashed viperlte rom and had problems and decided to take it back to stock for now. Gonna be on the road and can't be 'experimenting'...attempted to go back to stock, by using the original RUU, and as I understood it, I needed to lock the phone back first. Didn't make sense as I was wondering how I could flash a Rom if it was locked back. After locking, when trying to go to recovery, it just comes back to fastboot. I can't get into the main phone--it boots to a screen, but no buttons work, although if i press volume up/down it shows it on the screen. What have I done?! I'll admit being a newb to phones, so please, some guru help me get back to something
Here's what fastboot shows:
TAMPERED
RELOCKED
SECURITY WARNING
Fireball pvt ship s-on rl
Hboot 1.15
Radio 1.53
opendsp v29.1.0.45
emmc-boot
It wouldn't read either of the mini sd-cards I used after rooting, so I can't just get use my sdcard with a new or original rom. I can't get to a main phone screen to turn on usb debugging, so no adp? Any ideas?

Thank you for the response. Tried this, it loaded the zip, then went to 'checking' and after that, back to the bootloader. Never asked me if I wanted to proceed. When rebooted it brought me back to where I was, a phone which appears to be up--clock works, wifi is on, but I can't do anything. I feel pretty confident the img is good. Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure you need to re-lock your phone and then flash a RUU. You will be on un-rooted, bone-stock ICS. I recommend that you use a T-Mobile RUU.
To do this you need to have ADB installed on your computer. Open up ADB in command prompt (navigate to the platform tools folder) and then hold shift and right click. You should see an option to open a command Window.
When it's open type in " fastboot oem lock ".
That should lock your bootloader. You can now download a RUU and flash it in the bootloader. Just rename it to "PH85IMG". It should be a zip format. Put it on your external SD card and let it flash in bootloader.
You can also find RUUs here. Chose the one for your native carrier, if your phone is unbranded, I recommend the T-mobile one.

I'm sure that whether your bootloader is (re)locked or not, it has to flash the ROM anyway. The problem will come later when you try to boot the ROM cause it will fail.
Be sure to put the .zip in the root of the external SD card and name it PH85IMG

Try to reflash the RUU and if problem persist then the problem should be in your battery.
And ya check the md5sum of RUU( no need to worry more about md5sum but you may check for surity)

I'm trying to do that with an old Amaze I have. I have a Wind version so I downloaded a Wind (Globalive) RUU. Do I still need to rename it to PH85IMG ? Also it came into an exe. file and not a zip, but there is an OTA available that is a zip file. Will a exe file still flash in the bootloader? Thanks in advance

Well it should work exactly the same way. You still have to rename it to PH85IMG since it's device specific not carrier specific.
But if your RUU is an exe I think you have a different type of RUU. For that type, it's a software that updates your phone connected to a USB. For that, you need to connect your amaze to the computer and run the RUU installer. This might be your only option if wind doesn't have any other RUUS.
Another easy way is to go to the development section, and look for the thread by krook which has a collection of RUUS. It's on the 3rd page I think. Download the latest ICS one, rename it to PH85IMG and put it on your external SD (not in any folders) and it will flash in the bootloader.
There is also the Windroid toolkit which just got fixed and updated so that can help assist with the file pushing.

If it's an exe (the one that has an installer and all that Jazz), then no. Just connect your Amaze to the PC and let it do the work.
For the manual updating method, you need a micro sd.

There are many threads that I have read through...
when I fastbooted and so forth... I typed in the command box fastboot oem lock and that did nothing.
From what I read, you need to flash the lock boot loader zip to lock it.. Fastboot oem lock command won't work apparently if you have S-offed.

No worries now guys, I suppose now I have to give Verizon a damn good reason as to why my phone was rooted as hell. I have a decent alibi created.
Flash the lock boot loader zip as you would if flashing a ROM.
After that, do the RUU instructions, then s-on (fastboot OEM write secure flag 3). It is pretty simple.

You can't lock the boot loader by fastboot commands, you needed to lock it by flashing the lock zip in recovery.
