The most memory I could get free was 203MB with nothing running except...
Settings @ 10mb
GO Launcher EX @ 19MB
Task manager @ 7.4MB
SNS @ 0.00B
GO Keyboard @ 11MB
____________________________________________________
I get around 203MB of free RAM this way... Which works great for games like Modern Combat 3 or other RAM heavy games/apps.
Does anyone know if one of the things I froze is bad to freeze? Or of any other items we could freeze to get the most optimal amount of RAM possible for this device? I'm curious to see if we can see a stable 210MB+ of RAM (with nothing running).
What results do you guys get?
Go to running and stop the go launcher I always stop it and it frees a bit

I wonder how stable it is your device after you freeze all those components in every day use.
And another question, I see you have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz, again, how stable it is?. And, what voltage modifications and governor do you use for that kind of overclock?
Thank you, it is good to see a topic related to maximize resources in this gem.
I have RAM Manager and it works pretty well if you also have a task manager.

It seems pretty stable. I haven't come across any issues thus far. The roughly 200mb of free RAM makes playing Shadowgun so smooth with 4xMSAA enabled. Clocking it to 1.5GHz prior also smooths the fps out a good bit too.
Shadowgun (without 4xMSAA and 1.5GHz) = Very high, probably 50-60fps
Shadowgun (with 4xMSAA and 1GHz) = Significantly lower fps, probably around 20fps
Shadowgun (with 4xMSAA, 200mb of RAM free prior, 1.5GHz) = Pretty good fps, probably around 30-40fps or so.
Oh and my 1.5GHz clocked profile is...
ondemand, 100~1500MHz
L0 1500MHz - 1350mV - 1150mV
L1 0800MHz - 1200mV - 1100mV
L2 0400MHz - 1050mV - 1100mV
L3 0200MHz - 0950mV - 1100mV
L4 0100MHz - 0950mV - 1000mV
I've had no stability issues with this profile so far. I usually only use it for intense gaming like Shadowgun (since it uses a ton of special effects/resources) in order to obtain a smooth framerate. I also use it for Modern Combat 3 and Order & Chaos. On a non-gaming note; It seems to make the OS run MUCH faster, GOLauncher seems very speedy as well + fluid transitions.
I've had it at 1.5GHz all day and while battery did drop a bit, it was very speedy and usable during the time I used it (occasionally over a work day).
I've probably had this profile for about a month or so now, and nothing has crashed or frozen due to it.
This might work
Personally I just rooted my SGP player 5.0 and downloaded a custom rom. The custom rom I had had an auto task killer or whatever it was called, which automatically freed up memory. This helps so much because in the stock rom I had to always go to the task maager.

Lol you won't burn it at 1.5Ghz, but at 2GHZ.... that's another story. Lets just say I was showing off how the slider went to 2GHz and hit apply on accident. The screen instantly dissolved, in the way an old Gameboy Color would when you turned it off (image burn?). Luckily it reboot shortly afterwards and seemed fine. That was about 2 months ago. So uh... yeah. 1.5 is stable, 1.6 worked, but I haven't tested it enough yet.
I'm testing 1.4 for now using your voltage values from 1.5
I'll keep it like that for a few days and then i will ramp it up to 1.5
Also, this is REALLY weird, maybe I'm just crazy and/or ignorant, but every time I install a new ROM, the last thing I do is change the DPI value from 240 to 200, and when I reboot the device, everything becomes faster, noticeable faster and smoother, have anyone else noticed that?

I'll go ahead and confirm that you can clock from 1.1-1.3GHz without changing anything other than the clock speed. 1.4Ghz+ is where I'd apply the 1.5Ghz profile I use currently.
And no, it doesn't head up much during intense gaming; At least not for me.

Well I just want to share my experience with this launcher on defy. Still in beta, need to improve alot of things (configuration, more widgets...). But looks promising. I really like it. The big problem -at least for me- is that runs a bit slow. I think the program eats too much memory since my cpu monitor shows nearby always the minimum speed possible (300Mhz).
My configuration is UK froyo 2.2 with pays 3.0 or something and setvsel 1200mhz.

Pays-rom eats quite a lot of RAM ya know?
Shell 3D is amazing! Blazing fast!
I used Pays-Rom 5.1 I liked it a lot but I was getting to much freezes and lags.
I switched to LiquidArc and running SPB Shell 3D on it and it's super smooth (41fps)
Also clear you apps cache it may improve speed.
Btw 1200Mhz is too high it can affect performance try around the 1000-1100 Mhz.

Yeah i know pays isnt de best of best, but I'm waiting to see what happens in the next months to change my rom (maybe unlocked bootloader or cm7 port comes).
But i don't understand what you say that 1200Mhz can affect perfomance? I set 1200 because I play FPSE.
thanks for your reply.
The CPU needs more than 64vsel to run stable @ 1,2ghz and more than 64 vsel/1,4volt damage and slow down a 40nm² cpu

La vera que ami tambien me parecion muy lento, lentisimo!!! es muy atractivo, pero tiene esa gran contra =(
i have tried it, it was laggy as hell.
I tried this on my Defy stock 2.1 (Update 2.59)
Worked well, however I noticed that CPU utilisation was a bit high. I mean in stock form the CPU used to get @ 600MHz frequency during normal browsing but with Shell3D launcher it used to run @ 800Mhx frq most of the time.
I know this is quite natural considering the 3D widgets & all the cool effects, but I uninstalled it so as to save some battery.

one issue with shell 3D is taht it resets the launcher back to stock whenever you press the Home key again... Is there any way to change this..Its really frustrating that you loose all your customized panels & widgets just by clicking the home key?
WTH... is there any way to relaunch the shell3D launcher with your customized settings? Its still installed in your phone, its just that I cant relaunch it.. need help.
Running this on CM7 and it's amazing. When I first installed it, it was laggy as hell but after a quick reboot its running without ANY lag. I'm overclocked to 1.2GHz which I'm sure helps too
I'm using the spb and it works really well, in cyanogenmod 1.5 rc

You should share what speed and voltages you are running at, I figured it would be helpful to give other people ideas of where to begin trying their voltages at for undervolting purposes. So, what's your lowest voltages at the highest clock speeds?
I'm using SetCPU's standard voltages. 1.8/.38 normal, .87/.38 screen off and over 130F, 1.2/.38 battery less than 50%, 1.8/1.2 plugged in. Getting 4-5 more hours per charge!

Here's the values I've currently got in my Permatemp Root .bat file (thanks Eugene!): scpll_l_val=24 vdd_uv=1060000
That gives me 1.296 ghz at 1.06 volts. I know 1.3 ghz isn't much of an overclock, but this phone is already so fast (especially compared to my old Hero, lol) that I'm not really craving any more speed ... what I'm most interested in is undervolting for max battery life. From what I've read the stock voltage at 1.2 ghz is 1.18 volts, so I'm a little under that right now. I tried 1.00 and 1.03 volts and got reboots every time, but 1.06 volts runs rock-solid reliable for me at 1.3 ghz.
is that really even noticable? the LCD draw most of the power typically

Someone in the OC topic was asking about UV at stock speeds. You're close enough to stock that you should qualify. You should go post your results in that thread too. They'd be happy to see them.

You adjust the voltage when you type the ADB command to OC. If you're using a script that does it for you, you will need to edit that script and look for the vdd_uv= line.

What do you mean by "is that really even noticable"? It's certainly calculatable ... it's an 11.3 percent improvement in battery usage by the CPU. If you're saying that's not very much, well, it's all relative. If you're saying you're not interested in saving a little battery when it won't cost you anything to do so, that's fine with me. If you're saying that no power-saving effort is worth any consideration because the LCD is the biggest power draw of all and that's the only one that matters, then why did Qualcomm bother to develop asynchronous cores and low-power audio modules and low-power GPS modules? I mean, hey, the screen is all that matters, right?
Or did I misread your statement?
Edit: Sorry for coming across as so argumentative, I just don't understand why you're taking the position you are.

Supposedly - the Samsung Galaxy S2 can play 1080P + AC3 MKV's smoothly. But the Evo3D and Sensation lag a bit according to the developer. I tested this file with my evo3D and it looked like my Evo3D stuttered every 3 seconds or so. I'm just wondering if an overclock would smooth out playback - but I haven't installed temproot.
For those of you overclocking just for battery savings, I am currently testing
adb shell insmod /data/local/tmp/8x60_oc.ko scpll_l_val=22 vdd_uv=1003100 and have been stable so far, this is the absolute lowest I can push it at 1.2Ghz on my phone, can anyone else match this or go lower? I think it will be helpful to start establishing these values now so kernel makers will have some ideas of how far they can push our phones.

The default gallery player plays it perfectly, but there's no sound.

It's a software issue.

Thanks for the check! I was wondering if there would still be lag with an overclock - that's disappointing. Supposedly the SGS2 handles files like it with no problem.
OC Script
Here is a batch file I created to make it easier to OC. Basically just the Rooting script with a menu to select the speed with delays built in.
Rename from oc.txt to oc.bat if you wish to run the file.
You will most likely need to change the voltages to match your phone. My phone has been very OC friendly.
Currently running 1188mhz @ .97 Volts with no issues. I have been able to OC up to 1890mhz @ 1.32 volts.
Have not tried to go lower on the voltage at 1188mhz yet...

I believe it to be caused by the ramp up/down of the governor or possibly a script/setting messing with my system.
I am able to run very stably and smooth with a top CPU speed of 1.6 GHZ( 1.593 GHz on A05P). Any ideas on what I can do to increase the CPU speed so that the system stays stable? Your input is much appreciated. Thank you again for helping this poor noob.

I have noticed that whenever i play heavy 3d games, my cpu only runs at 800 mhz..even though the scaling is from 200-1200 mhz. First i thought it was a problem with a specific game(The dark knight rises), but now i tried Mass effect infiltrator too..same thing happens..
I wouldnt have bothered too much but i get some fps drops..i expect 'smooth as a butter' experience from S2..which i aint getting..while playing 3d games..
Some one might argue that maybe the game requires only 800 mhz to run..but i seriously doubt it..in 3d applications(heavy) , the processor should be used at higher frequencies. Also, i tried scaling my cpu from 1000-1200 mhz, but still while playing games, the cpu goes back to 800 mhz lol..
Please someone explain this and also Try it on your device..do u notice the same results while playing a heavy 3d game?
I tried running stock kernel as well as siyah 3.3.2. getting same results on both.. tried different governers too..but same thing
I am on neatlite rom currently..could it be the rom thats the culprit?
Please someone do help me, i am getting frustrated with my S2 lol..

Please someone explain this and also Try it on your device..do u notice the same results while playing a heavy 3d game?

for ur 'Smooth as Butter' experience with 3d gaming, i would suggest u to flash a stock official ICS firmware and then see for the same
It would be really great if anyone could just verify it on their device too? Just run some good heavy 3d game..and look at the cpu usage..would be a lot appreciated
thanks again
COmeon anyone?? Please reply and let me know how is the game and cpu behaviour in your devices..am really worried coz of this issue...
Why don't you use apps like setcpu and clock your processor at 1200mhz max and say 1000mhz min?

If you noticed my post properly...i did try scaling from 1000-1200..but still the processor goes down to 800 mhz...
It only happens with heavy 3d games( which ironically require the processor the most)
2d games run at 1200 mhz but not the 3d ones lol..:|
Sorry! Try using chainfire's 3D app for the S2, install the drivers and see what happens then?

It could be due to smooth scaling setting bug from earlier siyah kernel, or throttling due to cpu temperature.
Try flash the latest siyah kernel and set smooth scaling level to 1200mhz.
i have set smooth scaling to 1200 mhz.. and yeh i guess it could be the throtling issue but why is it happening?
I mean i can run a 2d game like mutant roadkill on 1200mhz but when i try to run heavy 3d games..they just run at 800 mhz..
I did read bout this throttling issue to 800mhz but what can i do to avoid it? The phone doesnt get too hot either though..
Hi I'm running at 1600mhz on my galaxy note (stock is 1400) everything is running damn fast thumbs up.... But every single time I load a game which contains heavy 3d graphics then it goes down to 800mhz I just can't find a solution. Anyway running smoothly at 1600 just as long I don't play games.

wrong thread and wrong forum my friend this is for s2
also, perhaps you should use setCPU to check some clock settings
I just tried infiltrator, and my device uses highest 1200mhz normally, so i guess it must be kernel/rom related. I'm running rr 2.6.1 with latest dorimanx 5.67 kernel. It might be something about neat rom that prevents your device from using max clock, since neat rom is very battery friendly, but i'm not sure... would be nice if someone using the same rom as you could try and confirm.
