Hey there, two nights ago I contacted VZW and turned on my Mobile Hotspot service. My Rezound is rooted, but nothing beyond that. I tried to get it to connect to my Xoom, but the service on my phone wouldn't start. I did a battery pull, turned off WiFi and Bluetooth and nothing works. The service appears to start, but then the tick box unchecks itself and on the main network page is says "error". I've called VZW and they don't seem to know what the problem is. Is anyone who else who has recently rooted and is using the Hotspot having the same problem? Heck even if you haven't does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem? I've searched the forums and the web and have found numerous threads with Hotspot errors, but none are similar to the one I am having. Thanks.
I do not know how to fix the built in hotspot.... BUT if you're rooted, why on earth would you actually pay Verizon for the hotspot feature when you can use Wifi Tether for Root just fine for free??

its still worth paying because the rezound only broadcast in ad-hoc mode and lots of devices wont see your phone or even connect because of that...my verizon hotspot connects perfectly to my wii and when i use a tether application( used a variety of apps from market) they will see but wont connect because the wii doesnt support ad-hoc..so in summary keep your verizon hotspot.
also i have had problems with the hotspot after maybe an hour or less the data throughput will stop and the only way for it to function is for a restart of the phone..VZW and HTC say its a software bug and "should" be fixed in ICS i presume..i think your problem is either your phone or the kernel..have you flashed any kernels?? if not then i would suggest you run a RUU and see if that fixes things and if it doesnt i would get a replacement..Hope i helped.
I paid out of desperation truthfully. I tried four versions of Wireless Tether and none of them worked. I also didn't want to pay my hotels $12 a night internet fee so it was a cheaper option for my week away from home. I tried some market apps with no luck too. Maybe the RUU is the way to go. It did work when I first got it, must've been a free period or something. Haven't tried it since til after I rooted. But I've not modified it in any way other than root.
I use the wifi-tether just fine,
I noticed when I had originally disabled the TetheringGuard apk it didn't startup right at all (would flicker, as you said),
I reenabled the tetheringguard that came on the phone and it worked great.
both wifi' and usb tethered.
good luck!
OK, I tried OpenGarden again and sort of got it to work. I can connect my work phone to it fine, but not my Xoom or laptop. I still cannot get Mobile Hotspots to work which is OK if I can figure out OpenGarden with my other devices. Any advice? By the way, hanks for the help so far.
Well, some more searching I found I needed the WPA supplicant file for my Xoom. Now that works too. Now if I can just get the laptop to be able to obtain an IP address I'll be set.

If it's a work laptop it might require wireless encryption which if I remember correctly doesn't work on the Rezound yet. Try USB tethering for that. Barnacle can do both. On a similar not, if you're using the latest and greatest wifi tether, check mss clamping and routing fix and it should work on the Rezound...just was using mine to my Ubuntu laptop this morning.
I DELETED TetheringGuard.apk and use Wifi Tether just fine on my phone. Thats really weird.. perhaps it wasn't properly frozen or something?
I use "Routing Fix" to make it work. "MSS Clamping" seems to have no affect one way or the other. Does anybody know what mss clamping means?

I wan't able to get my laptop to get an IP address from the phone either until I used the "Routing Fix" option in Wifi Tether for Root.
I feel like an idiot but everyone keeps mentioning this mms clamping and routing fix in WiFi tether. Two questions....1 exactly what app is this, and where do I find these settings. I and running ineffabilis v1.0 and it has wireless tether. I looked in barnacle and opengarden for these settings and nada...any help would be appreciated.

I don't know that MSS Clamping is the fix so much as the routing fix is. MSS Clamping fix I believe refers to MTU Discovery issues. I won't get into it but suffice it to say that checking the box is never a bad idea.

Wifi tether which is the same app(probably different version). Wifi tether version 2.0.7 just works. Anything beyond that need the aforementioned "fixes" enabled.

Grab a file explorer (ES, Root, Astro) and check that tetheringguard.apk is still sitting in /system/app. That symptom is typical of when tetheringguard is disabled or removed.
I don't know what those settings are, but I know where they are. They are not in those two applications that you mentioned. They are settings in the Wireless Tether application for android. Google Wireless Tether for Android and its the top link. The explanation forbwhay those two settings are may be there as well.

Hi, I'm using an unlocked Samsung i777 outside the US. But the fact that wifi tethering is not working. Every time when I try to enable it, it says "mobile data not available or invalid sim".
3G/HSDPA connecton fine and SIMcard has a data plan and I can even use usb tethering.
How can I make it work? Phone is rooted.
I am using hellraised stock Rom XWLA4. When was UCKH7 also not working.
In system/app have 3 app wifi 1.0, wifi sharing 1.0, wifi sharing manager 1.0. I tried to freeze them, no luck.
Thanks.
Either wifi tethering is broken on XWLA4 (I haven't played with it myself yet), or something about the CSC or apns-conf.xml doesn't work with your carrier.
Hellraiser is designed under the assumption that only AT&T customers would subject themselves to the carrier-mangling of the I777 and as such, includes an AT&T-tuned CSC. There's a possibility that you need to remove all of the CSC files from the Hellraiser zip and wipe/reflash. It's either that or XWLA4 is busted.
Hahah lol...dud even I had exactly the same concern. Its not a big problem Jus download FoxFi from Android Market and voila! It will take away ur pain It enables the WiFi hotspot tethering like a charm without any problem. Its free..Jus type the above name in Android market and install. Then open the app and touch on Activate WiFi hotspot. Its done. Let me know bout it. TC.

Third-party tethering apps are not a solution unless there is no way to fix native tethering. Most of not all of them put the device into adhoc mode, which is incompatible with many devices.

I do agree, I have tried foxfi before but it will hang and force close uninstalled and reinstalled the app with same results. I have uninstalled tethering provision app on rooted stock ics but then again when I start the native wifi hotspot it just hang for several seconds the force close saying the application setting has stopped. Now I just remember installing this foxfi app again upon reading this thread and am now happy it works and I can now tether thru wifi hotspot with my phone. Having a solution to the native phone wifi hotspot though is pretty sweet. I don't know if the uninstalling of the tethering provision app has help but at least I have a functional wifi hotspot now.

I was searching for answers for my HotSpot problem and found this thread.....I'm piggy backing because it remains open even though maybe resolved - hope that is ok?
I couldn't seem to get my Hotspot to work and so I downloaded FoxFi. It seems to send a signal fine, and my iPad sees the SSID fine. My phone shows Connected: my mac address- duration - ipad's ip address but when I try to go to a web site my ipad show the following error dialog:
Cannot Open Page
Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet
Thoughts anyone?
Yer not asking us to help you trouble shoot something that isn't even running the Android operating system are you? Cause obviously that'd be silly to do in a forum like this. Does the tethering work with your computer? If so its a problem with the Apple product you're talking about and should be addressed in their forums.

Well, when i use my native Android Wi-Fi Hotspot the phone says it is an active hotspot and my iPad does connect, but I get the same error message when I try and browse the net:
Cannot Open Page
Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet
I would naturally prefer to use the native mode.....any help with that?
Thanks in advance

I've been using this app for about 2 months now without any problems, up until about 2 weeks ago. Now if I'm in default LTE mode, my laptop and tablet can connect to the hotspot, but I can't open a webpage in Firefox on either device, it just times out. I've verified that Firefox on my phone can access them. Also, I can open a cmd prompt on the laptop and get successful pings on google.com, but it still times out on the laptop or tablet.
If I reboot the phone to be on CDMA/EVDO then everything works fine, just slower. I'm on Sprint. I sent an email to the developer, and he stated he didn't think it was a problem in the app itself but advised me to check the APN settings. I can't seem to locate them on this phone.
Anyone else having this problem, or have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Didn't change anything. Re-reading my original post, I realize I wasn't clear on a point:
I can ping google.com and get replies from a command prompt on my laptop when I'm attached to the wifi router and the phone is in LTE mode, but my web browser (firefox) will not display the google home page. If I select CDMA mode on the phone, then I can get to google from firefox.
Since I'm getting ping replies, I doubt DNS is the culprit. Seems like it's something with port 80. I'm starting to think Sprint did something to block the app on the LTE network.
Just to check, I reset my phone to factory default and re-installed the app. Same results.
Anyone else having problems with this while on LTE?
Thanks.

I contacted the developer Fabio, and he thinks I need to change some settings in the APN IPV4 protocol. Problem is, I can't seem to find where to change the settings on this phone. They should be in settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks, but the options are not on that screen. I'm really starting to regret getting this phone. I love the phone itself, but Sprint did a few things to "dumb down" the ROM that just plain piss me off. OK, I get they took out native tethering so they could sell that option. I don't like it, but at least it makes some kind of sense. They also took out the option in contacts to send a incoming call from a given contact straight to voicemail. That just makes no sense whatsoever. Also, I don't like there are no custom ROMs for this phone. If I could get this phone with a plain vanilla Android without all the Sprint mods, I'd be in heaven.
Anyway, does ANYONE have Wifi Tethering working on this phone (LPH-600) with Sprint and LTE?

HOW? rooted? special rom? special app from play store?
I apreciate the answer but a whole lot of detail is left out to answer the question properly.
So if I could indulge you to please "fill in the blanks and details you left out..."

I use WiFi Tether Router from the play store. Your phone does need to be rooted to use it. This will also bypass the tethering limit on the account.
First your phone needs to be rooted, and then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone. You can use ES File Explorer to edit the file in the system folder.
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Pull up the Menu for it (hold down the multitask button for that)
3. Tap on Tools
4. Turn on Root Explorer
5. Tap on Root Explorer on the left side and go to Mount R/W
6. Make sure all of the settings are set to RW, tap OK
7. At the top of ES File Explorer tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now go to System, CSC, and open customer.xml
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change the things below. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it. What you are going to change is in bold.

Save the changes and reboot
Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should update the APN, you can now go in and verify that under T-Mobile US LTE the APN protocol is now set to ipv4. If the change didn’t pull over you should be able to edit it and change it to ipv4;
These are the Wifi Tether Router Settings from the developer below. Make sure that your WiFi is turned on before you start the app.
For Samsung Galaxy S5 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1

Okay after rebooting I get 2 APNs that shown up from resetting to default APN. One is T-mobile US LTE fast.t-mobile.com The other one is T-mobile MMS LTE fast.t-mobile.com. The first one is selected. Does this mean I cannot send MMS without selecting that APN? Is this because I changed the IPV6 to IPV4? Sorry I'm not very good at root stuff. I had tether for my note 2 and was wondering if it was possible for the s5. Not a necessity for me just useful. Anyways just curious if I screwed something up or not.
Edit
So I tried the app Wifi tether router, using those settings and my pc only stays on a limited connection with no IPv4 connectivity. Anyone have an idea of what I did wrong?

i did and it works perfectly.
The stock "Mobile HotSpot" app works just fine.
SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I followed the directions to the T!
And guess what, I don' see crap! my SSID is not being broadcasted. WHY?
I followed EXACTLY to the letter of the instructions.

ok.. So now I DON'T follow the instructions, I set auto for both
Interface and Method and guess what.. I now see the SSID.. Think it works? think again! "The connection is limited" on my tablet.
on my PC, not connected.
Same old crap a different "Trick and tip"
nothing against anyone personally. If I had a dollar for every guide I've followed and it failed, I'd make a ton of money. I should start a site on youtube for people to see me follow people guides, and I don't mess up. I'm VERY good at following directions, but there is ALWAYS something missing.
forexample.. Dude says "only change whats in bold"
WHAT!! nothing is in bold chief !!
thank you!
I followed your notes to the T & yes.......it works!
I just thought the Wifi tether router app was free; but, its so cheap....
then once I close the app my normal wifi connection is disabled. Entering the PW again doesn't matter. I literally must reboot the phone to get things back to normal.
Anything you know about fixing that tiny issue? Otherwise, I'm so thrilled because NOTHING else worked.
thank you!!!
:good:

to add..
I think that happens because T-mobile network is holding it up.........preventing the normal wifi connection to not take place unless I reboot. my thoughts.

Works.. but not like this
When I first got my S5 from T Mobile I rooted and installed Alliance ROM. Wifi Thether Router worked out of the box.
I F'd up my phone somehow and had to have it replaced under warranty. This time I decided to stick with the stock ROM, but I couldn't get WIFI Thethering to work. It would connect, and pretend like it was working but always timeout. I had this problem on my S3 and had to change the useragent to get anywhere, which sucked always being served mobile pages.
I decided to try this before changing my useragent again. It did not work. It connected to the network but it didn't even pretend to load any pages. I tried different browsers. Tried different OSes. Then I restored the customer.xml file to the original and somehow everything works again. On Ubuntu 14 anyway. No such luck on Win 8.1. But that's ok, FoxFi's USB Tether works awesome out of the box, with or without root.
Got my free internet back. $150/mo phone bill for unlimited data, at least I'm not paying for internet too.
Morning
Is there a fault with the tethering on this phone? I've tried connecting to my laptop, it finds and connects to the laptop but just says no Internet. So I connected my wife's pixel phone and it connected straight away. Is this another problem in the long line of other problems with this device?

Hmm strange how it connects but says no Internet on my surface book.
Being a UK user we had to wait for the WiFi problem to be fixed, still waiting on the ok Google fix and Google maps is really slow and jerky
This is what I get
ah, I haven't heard about the wi-fi problem.
have you tried with another computer ? Reset your wifi card, DHCP activated ... ?

It's weird if it's working with a phone, but not the computers ...
Mate 10 Pro tehering
I'm having the same issue.
New Mate 10 Pro set up for thethering, Samsung Tablet connets to phone, phone sees tablet, but can't get any internet on tablet through phone. Tablet worked fine with old S5 Neo so not a tablet problem.
Seems to me the problem is with the phone as I see more and more people having the same problem.
Anyone know how to fix this yet?
Thanks
I'm also having trouble so far no apple devices can connect to my hotspot and most Androids cannot connect..A few Androids have connected , but most of the time comes back with authention error, this happens when I use or don't use a password.,I have the latest upgrade 8.0
I had this problem too - devices would connect to the hotspot but not be able to get online.
I found a guide on here saying to reset the APN and change a setting in it... Worked perfectly since. I don't have the guide bookmarked but try searching.

I found my reply in another thread which worked for me:
I had this issue on a Mate 10 Pro - hotspot would connect, but no data throughout. It worked on SIM 2 but not SIM 1, and SIM1 is the main SIM I want to tether using.
I reset all network settings (system, reset, network settings reset), reset the APN (wireless & networks, mobile network, access point name, three dots), added a new APN and that got tethering to work on either SIM slot.
Would confirm that this is the solution - perfect on the three occasions it's not worked in 6 months.

I'm glad it helped someone. I was about ready to sell the phone if tethering didn't work, and spent ages looking for a fix after endless hard resets.
