Depends what you want to do on your tablet but here's a few essentials but you will need root for some of them: Setcpu (for stability), Titanium Backup (for backing up), Flash player, GO Launcher HD (for better home screens/folders) & Kingsoft Office (free but others are available).
Just look through the Google Play app list to see if there's anything else that you may use.

I am in the same boat, however most of the apps are coded for phones....not tablets, which is very annoying!

try going for the HD versions as they are for high end phones and tablets specifically.

Hi. I have done a search on this question but so far have not found an answer...I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i and I have paid apps as well as free apps stored on my device. My question is can I reinstall these apps (especially the paid apps) on my new Android device?
Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Scott
Yes, I believe so, as the Market place in Android uses your google account, so if you register with that account on the new phone, it should allow you to download the paid apps.
I have not tried so can not gurantee this,
I just tried this and yes, it works.
Make sure you use the same Google Account you had when you purchased the app.
Unfortunately, I don't think they have a "history" of your previous apps so you're gonna have to search for them on the Market. It should show up as "Purchased" where it says Free or the price for it. Then, it gives you the option to install it once you select it (and, nope, you don't have to pay again).

you have two choices
1.- root your device and install titanium back up or any other backup program you feel comfortable whit
2.- as teenyah, pratishk told you before, use your same Google account that you use to pay your apps, and as for the free apps,, as i told you in number 1 you need to back up them,, is more easy than go and look on by one on market store.
i did those steps before i went from 1.6 to 2.1, i had my xperia x10a rooted, and back up all the apps, and when i mend all is all i haven't had the pay app of titanium back up,, so you need to do the back up in batch programming is a pain in the ass but for a free app, as far as i know is the best one...
hope that helps
Thank you all for your very helpful responses and I am pleased to confirm that all works as you described. Much appreciated.

Hi. I would like to update the firmware of my Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I wonder how to reinstall all my apps (paid and free) without problems. Can I use my AppBrain program to re-install all my apps after this firmware update?

I received my Nook Tablet for Christmas, and of course the first thing I do is root it (using Nook&Zergy). Now that I have access to the market, I ask myself"wheres all the apps?" I assume that it was the Android market filter hiding incompatible apps. So later on I try to side load and get errors. So now I just want to know how to get apps to work? I also blocked OTA's.
[In a nutshell]
What I know:
-Nook runs tweaked Gingerbread
-Honeycomb app I try to install get a parseing error when I try to install(most likely do to api's)
-Market has limited app selection.
What I want to know:
- Is it possible to get Honey comb apps to run(for example adobe touch apps, sketchbook pro hd ect...)
-Why is the android market selection so limited
-What is a parsing error?
- If you have any more advice feel free to share
Thank you!
I'm having same issue
Im having the same problem. Google maps, Evernote, Facebook all do not show up in market. When I use the browser to access the market it says these apps are incompatible. Also words with friends installs and opens but doesn't show properly, the chat window overlaps the game board so you can't see it. Is this a dpi issue? I've seen other posts that maybe dpi needs to be changed to 160. If so, How is this done?

Gingerbread can't run honeycomb apps. I have evernote and some other apps I have found through other sites, however i have not got facebook to run yet.
The apps are limited because of the fingerprint of the device, but people have spoofed the build.prop file to gain access to more of the market. See other threads.
I have facebook and twitter running on my rooted nook right now. I took the apks from my phone backups and put them in dropbox, downloaded and installed. (That was actually before I rooted) but they are working fine and the widgets work on the homescreens. I did that with all of the apps I wanted from my phone.
If this helps, I created a tutorial on how to download apps not showing up in the Marketplace.

I have been trying to get tintin to work on my View for the past week (which is not available for this device through the market) without any luck. I went to gameloft through the "100% HD Games" APP that comes with new HTC View 4G and saw TinTin HD available for this tablet. I bought it for $4.99 hoping it would finally work.
After paying with PayPal it took me to a page with the Download Link. I clicked on the link and got "Page Not Found". i think i have wasted my $4.99 and cant even figure out a way to download the +1 App for free (Promo going on NOW on Gameloft Games 1-22-11). Contacted GameLoft will update on what they say.
Just wanted to warn everyone so that no one else makes this mistake.
I never trust crapware like that! I use Go Launcher EX, which per my personal request, is now compatible with Tablets. Just go into the app drawer, press menu, hide app, then click the apps you don't want to see, such as stupid crapware!

Well gameloft isn't really crapware. Bloatware possibly but def not crapware. They put out very quality stuff. I'm sure it wasn't a scam or anything like that. Im sure it was a glitch in the system and gameloft will quickly resolve it. Gameloft has very good customer service.

Here is the file. Be sure to click on old market when you have it open, if you don't like it click on new market. Pretty straight forward. HOWEVER. The above posts both provide a workaround/partial solution. Here is my suggestion...
If you choose to try Old Market, when you launch it you can choose "old" or "new" market. It requires root permissions to work. After selecting which Market you would like, it will reboot the device and, once it is booted, the market you chose will be installed. Take note that I did in fact still see some free apps that weren't installed, but not all of them. Perhaps they were only the apps that were downloaded to this specific device/ROM.
That said, the "old" Market is indeed the very old V2 Market. I went back to "new" Market (V3), and it upgraded itself back to Google Play after a little while.
Unless you truly like the old interface of the Market, I'd recommend you go with CosmicDan's suggestion of logging in to Google Wallet and viewing your transaction history. This will give you a list of only the apps you have purchased. Unfortunately you can not install them to your device from there, but at least you can see only the apps you have purchased without seeing every app you have ever downloaded.
--- Original Post ---
Is there a way to view only one's purchased apps in the new Play Store? The new interface for the My Apps section does not seem to have a way to do this like it used to, instead showing seemingly every app one has ever downloaded, with purchased apps mixed in (in no logical order).

Big time bump on this! They really do need to add a tab that shows purchased not just installed and history.
Just ran across this. Hope there is a fix in the works. Not being able to sort the apps is a major FAIL.
I let my son have my old droid and he went crazy downloading what looks like every free app offered....my mistake for not creating a junk gmail account. Now I have literally hundreds and hundreds of apps listed in my app section of the play store.
Bump, I would like to know also
It appears that even the app management section of the Google Play website doesn't have this capability. On the positive side, the site looks great! -_-
This is just wrong, when you've bought allot of apps and downloaded plenty of free apps.
There's got to be an easier way to see what you've bought and redownload!
Someone got a clue?

This is such a fkn annoying issue. BUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The other thing is there should be a tab to multi select app installs so you aren't directed to the install screen and forced to start from the beginning of the main screen after you go back. If that is not an option at least add the ability to install "ALL" paid apps.
Why in the hell would we not get the option to see purchased apps only but we get the option to see "ALL" downloaded apps paid or unpaid. That's just fkn ridiculous
P.S. To anyone that is going to tell me to roll back or move previous apk versions to system/app or even use an app to do it for you and blah blah blah. I have tried everything.
The closest I got was using the apk I will attach for everyone here. Be sure to unzip it and move the file to your phone and use a file explorer to install it.

so I should be able to choose which market I want to use on the fly when I install this apk?
This has got to be one of google's biggest recent FAILS.
It's been like this for over a month now, and what seems like a very simple and basic fix hasn't even arrived yet. Do you all think they are even aware of this being an issue for us?

Not likely any time soon in my opinion. I'm quite positive that they knowingly made the decision to change (read remove) the list of only paid apps in the Play Store, in an effort to "improve" the app. Unfortunately.
.— Powered by Nexus —.
Another Google Fail just like the crappy resolution contact pictures that they refuse to fix. Thanks google for making have to make duplicate phone contacts and link everything. Also thank you for getting rid of showing only the paid apps.
Google has always been a piece of.. garbage, but as of late, they have just been, a piece of... junk..
Well, I do not think Google forgot to have that view. From their point of view it absolutely makes sense:
If you forget about an app you bought some day, you might end up buying another one, providing the same functionality later. And that is where they get money from, not you re-installing an already bought app.
It does not go too well with the "don't be evil" motto, but this was clearly a deliberate choice by Google.

The r2 works fine for me. I've put it to /system/app … I had to delete the app data to make it run again after a reboot, though.
[Q]Titanium backup question and also list of Alternative "markets" people use
I do not own a kindle fire HDX, but I may get one for Christmas this year. Unlike some people in these forums, I would not care if the kindle's amazon services were broken, only reason I chose this tablet was for the SnapDragon 800 and Adreno 330 over the nexus 7's S4 pro and Adreno 320. So if i were to get the 7 inch variant and root it, what markets do you use to get your Google play store apps? another question that I have is the use of titanium backup. I own a HTC Evo 4g lte smartphone running Android 4.1.2. if i were to get an app on my phone, back it up with titanium backup, then copy that folder to my kindle, and try restoring the apps(just the app not the data) using a copy of titanium backup on my kindle, would this work? if someone who has another android device and a rooted kindle and wants to try this out that would be awesome. Any response is appreciated.

There are several alternative markets mentioned around. I use 1Mobile. (http://www.1mobile.com/) it has many of the same apps as the Play Store, just maybe not the most current version. Be aware it will install its own market app but it's not intrusive.
As for restoring backups from TiBu, If it's s paid app then you'll likely run into licensing issues since the app won't be able to verify the license with the Play Store. If it's a game you're restoring then game data will/may have to be downloaded again to resolve differences in graphics chips. I restored TiBu and Root Explorer, both paid. TiBu works but as the free version. Root Explorer seemed to work fine. Other games I restored wouldn't load at all, failing on license check.

thanks, i just thought i would ask. i'll check out 1mobile.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Just throwing in my two cents here. While titanium backup works on the fire after root it gets hung on the checking for license screen of you install the pro apk. This happens even if you restore the data folder it creates with the licensing info. Also 1mobile seems to work just fine.
