So BGR is reporting that the S3 is coming to Verizon this summer. http://www.bgr.com/2012/04/26/verizons-summer-fall-2012-smartphone-roadmap/
Take with a grain of salt obviously, but the GS3 might be enough to get me to jump ship..
Did they add Sense to it? If no then that sucks.. just saying.. An announcement of the One would have been cool although I'm under contract and would have to buy it outright. Wouldn't be the first time though..
If verizon picks this up ill jump on it. I want to see what it looks like first.
Samsung Radios + Verizon + the way that Verizon molests their phones =
If I ever get a Samsung phone again it will be a GSM version. When it comes to phones I think I will stick with HTC though.

Sense is an HTC toolkit. Samsung uses TouchWiz.
Looking forward to see if the rumored 5" quad core LTE from HTC for verizon is true. http://www.bgr.com/2012/04/26/verizons-summer-fall-2012-smartphone-roadmap/

the Inc4G is basically the One S with LTE
I absolutely LOVE Samsung screens, but the radios absolutely SUCK. So unless it's overhauled, I won't jump. Sense is also much cleaner then TouchWiz

I know people with both Samsung and Verizon. Both have confirmed that Verizon is not getting it. However, they may get something similar, like the next Nexus. I personally would prefer to stick with HTC, but if Samsung puts out something really tempting I may go for it when I get an upgrade.

I've got an upgrade right now, and I'm sort of tempted to wait and see if Verizon releases an LTE WP7 phone, that way I can have my Android and WP7 cale and eat it too (keep my Rezound) but who knows if that'll ever happen. Or a Galaxy Note. Basically everything interesting right now is on AT&T. When did that happen?

BGR isn't exactly the best source for rumors. These were the same people that "exclusively" said last year's iphone would be the iPhone5 exclusive to sprint. They were also "exclusively" reporting earlier that the galaxy s3 will be 4.8" 1080p phone (they don't seem to mention that anymore, I wonder why).
If we do happen to see the SGS3 it's gonna end up being a watered down, dual core US spec'd version. Because they're failing at getting LTE radios to work with quad cores. But this doesn't mean that we're not gonna see it, or whatever this HTC phablet is...

AT&T currently doesn't have a phone that is powerful as the OG Galaxy SII. Sure there is the Note and SkyRocket but they aren't as powerful. I would like to know if this phone is still selling strong. I just bought one. But anyway, this seems to be the best phone AT&T has ever had. Maybe the iPhone 4s comes in second? What do you think?

Seems that everyone else doesn't want to play nice so I'll add my own opinion. I think that the only phone that will be able to give our phone a decent challenge will be the HTC One X when it comes to AT&T supposedly in April. It looks to be a pretty nice phone, hopefully AT&T doesn't mangle it too bad.

Will agree with this one, the only problem some of the other phones that AT&T carries is that they simply bloat them to death and it kind of gives the phones a bad rap when reviewed by alot of the review sites.
Would love to see a review where the majority of the phones are benched/reviewed side by side with stock firmware/rom's vs rooted/custom rom's
I came from a Motorola Atrix to this and it was a definite upgrade. Great phone, and imo atleast for NOW, its the best. I'm sure something will come along soon and trump it, but till then, we're the kings of the mountain.

It does look like a nice phone, and I would have probably gotten it as a 2nd phone if it had a micro sd slot. the S4 chip seems impressive, but I'm sure the next exynos chip will crush it though once it's released
Coming from HTC Dream (G1), it is a step up for me for SGSII. But of couse, AT&T screwed it up with how they managed this device (not reconized it as 4G..DUH!!!). HTC One X seem to be the up to the task to match up to SGSII. But then we'll have to see.
Well coming from an iPhone and inspire this way way way better then any phone I have ever seen att carry.like mention before the HTC one XL may be the only phone to challenge this one(maybe the rumored galaxy s3 ) but not being able to remove the battery is one of its downfalls .
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah the One X looks like the first HTC phone in a while that could hold up against the Samsung.
The GS III could be earlier this year than last year. If the att variant is as close to the international as the i777 was to the i9100, then the One X will be back-seated quick.
But, the Captivate is still pretty strong after two years. Heck, they had ICS before we did. I would guess the i777 will continue to be popular for about the same timeframe, 2 years.

"Powerful" is in the eye of the beholder. I love my GSII, it is way snappy, but if I am in the bay area (which I am pretty regularly) I cant take advantage of the LTE there. All depends on what you value.

The SD card slot isn't too big of a deal to me because of the fact that the phone should be coming with a 32GB internal storage which is what my S2 has with the SD card added. The non removable battery could be more of a problem if it has the typical HTC battery life. If I didn't have my S2 right now and was ready for an upgrade I'd definitely give the One X a chance.
Just read the specs on HTC One, unless I missed something, it looks like HTC made the display .2" bigger than the GSGII Skyrocket just so they don't look like they are behind Samsung. Ya it is a nice phone but not nice enough to leave SGSII.
I'm eligible for my upgrade in Mid-Nov. I'm on the fence as between the 4G LTE and Samsung GSIII. Or, I could wait a little longer, maybe after new year, and see what is planned for Sprint's new Android lineup (if any).
I had always thought I would just stick with HTC but I am not sure anymore. The fixed battery really scares me. I rely on swapping batteries in my EVO 3D often and I have chargers everywhere as it is. That is really the only thing that makes me consider Samsung.
Anyone who's had a 4G LTE for a while now wish they got a GSIII? How is having a fixed battery?

No remorse at all love the phone fixed battery is not a issue as most users are averaging 15 hrs a charge

There are quite a few people who feel remorse over the multitasking issue, where even with most custom ROMs you'll still have the problem that the phone does not multitask properly. This is fixed with AOSP ROMs and I'm sure there will eventually be a legitimate fix for the problem on Sense, but as of now it's something that people have to put up with. I never really noticed it or was bothered by it, but a lot of people here are upset by it so I would keep that in mind.
Buy the Galaxy S III, then trade with me. My EVO LTE is superb. Kept in an Otterbox all of its life.

Never been an issue for me, and many others here and in other forums. As you know, battery life is highly dependant on your particular useage and can vary greatly from person to person.
There are many EVO vs GS3 type threads, but it basically comes down to personal preference. But don't let someone try to BS you into thinking the GS3 is "faster" because it has 2 GBs, lol.
I love the EVO LTE but I have s-off which was Important to me. The current hboots don't have it at the moment.
If that's important to you I'd go with the s3. Or wait for the new nexus which will probably have s3 specs but be straight aosp and guaranteed key lime pie next year.
I am assuming that the trend will continue where the Nexus phone has similar specs to the previous Galaxy S version.

But what is the ETA for the "new Nexus," particularly on Sprint?
A little.
The phone is nice, but it has issues. This is the first HTC phone I've been disappointed with...everyone else hated the 3D but I enjoyed that phone.
The muliti tasking, Wifi constantly dropping, sense weather widget constantly showing thunderstorms, the way Sense is still bloated and laggy at times...that and the useless HTC Hub never offering anything new, or widgets that should be common. I'm just starting to grow tired of it all honestly.
A lot of the problem can be fixed with AOSP roms, but then you lose the one real thing that made this phone, the badass Sense camera we have. I wouldn't say I'm anti Htc or anti Evo LTE..but I am disappointed.

I think it will be closer to when Verizon releases their phone. The last 1 was released in December for them. And I think the Nexus S was released in November of 2010.
So I think by the time your upgrade comes around in the middle of November you will know what's going to happen with the next Nexus phone.
Pure speculation of course.

I have a little remorse. Had an SGIII for about 2 - 3 days, bricked it and got an Evo LTE. It did seem a little faster operating the SGIII, the screen seemed a tad bit bigger, and I kinda miss the little touchwiz "shortcuts." But the Evo feels more sturdy and I had to have the kickstand. As of right now, the SGIII is easier to root but I found Fox fi for my tethering fix and I'll play with some of these launchers on the market til a new root for the Evo comes out.

TBH, a lot of what I heard supports SGIII.
Get it, dont worry about unlocking/rooting. Slap a AOSP Rom on or go with TouchWhiz (which people tend to be liking more than Sense it seems). Then also have the option of swapping an extra battery if you so desire. I dont know, this thread just gave me more questions. I feel even more on the fence.
I do appreciate all the HONEST feedback though. This is exactly what I wanted. TBH, I may just keep the EVO 3D a little longer than anticipated and see how things play out. I dont need the extra CPU power necessarily and I wont be gaining LTE. My 3VO is just how I like it now too...

I switched to the HTC evo 4G when it came out and I swore up and down that HTC was the best. They were 2 years ago. They had timely updates, awesome software and hardware, everything worked right out of the box. I don't know what happened to them. No matter what rom I use it have little glitches and bugs, proximity sensor doesn't work properly sometimes. It's disheartening to see Samsung getting their jellybean update tomorrow and our phone has been out longer. HTC is digging its own grave. We better see jellybean by the end of this year or else....my new years resolution will be to go elsewhere.
The fact that everything works on the stock rom means that it's because of the rom your running or some setting you goofed with. Unroot and return to stock if little quirks are your issue. Root will always involve little bugs like that... It always has as long as I've been a flash addict.
Honestly, if your on anything but a stock Rom, its not HTC....
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
That's the thing, I run stock 98% of the time. The reason I try other roms is to see if these bugs are widespread. I like stock, and maybe it's my phone. That brings me to another thing that I envy about Samsung, ease of root. There is no locked bootloader. I don't want to trade my s-off evo for a refurbished one that has an hboot I can't s-off. I know a downgrade method has been found, which is awesome news, but my point is that HTC should know better by now.
I was originally going to go with the EVO brand, but I went from the Epic to the Evo 3D, where the bootloader was locked down tight. I took my device back and bought a SGS2. Then I was going to give the EVO LTE a chance, but after the SGSIII was announced, I knew what my choice was.
HTC used to be really good and friendly to the devs here but now they're not too friendly about it. Samsung's always been friendly towards devs (aside from Verizon devices). That is why I went with them.
EDIT: and also post SGS2, Samsung's device support has been alot better. The first SGS wasn't too good. lol
What annoys me about HTC, is that stuff that I want to work easily just doesn't. For example, USB host is already enabled on Samsung phones, for some reason HTC has it disabled in their stock Rom/kernel. And HTC, why do you have to be so cantankerous when it comes to root? You go through great means to lock down the system. Why not just make a simple OEM unlock? But I got to admit...I do love sense.

Of course. I'm more interested in one of their phones, not them and their portfolio of phones. I'd never make the switch. Sense is too valuable, and the build quality alone would make me a lifetime HTC customer.
In all reality I probably won't switch, I think I just felt like whining about little. Hopefully things get ironed out and we get a good update soon.
bugs with root? sorry but that's the silliest thing i've read in a while....
custom roms not fully based on stock firmware [read: mixed releases hacked together/ports/aosp] released by HTC, MAY have some bug here and there, or even broken things. This is expected, unless building from 100% released source.
stock-based roms can be fully upgraded, features added, speeds tweaked, etc and stay as good as ever...

Phone being out longer does have everything to do with updates....just the opposite of how you want it to be. Sprint will update devices in order of last flagship released gets it first. It's common sense they do it this way and only rare cases does that not hold true.
So you want updates first, but the most recent flagship from Samsung or HTC. Whoever released later will get OT first likely...
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
That makes sense. I didn't think of it that way. I'm not worried about getting jellybean, but it would be nice to get a maintenance update soon.
Really think the EVO LTE was pushed out too fast. I know this isn't a big epiphany or anything. Sprint had them modify the one x to have an exclusive one series phone and it shows. HTC had a limited time to make those modifications as well. Considering that, I think they did a fairly decent job.
Due to the issues with this device I believe I will research and wait further before buying a new HTC phone (as well I should and on other brands too).
As soon as I heard about the new EVO I was in, pre-ordered immediately. Never again! Or until the EVO LTEX part deux comes out, maybe, possibly.
I pre-ordered my EVO as soon as it was available too, but I was so desperate for an upgrade (coming from an LG Optimus S) that I didn't care about any of the shortcomings (remember the multitasking fiasco?).
I had a little bit of buyer's remorse when the S3 came out, but it only took a few minutes of actually playing with one to realize it wasn't for me.
HTC may have been a little rushed and/or off-track when they released the EVO, but they've already pushed two fairly major updates that have fixed a lot of our initial complaints (multitasking, hideous 3-dot menu button, overall smoothness). I don't have LTE in my area yet, so I can't comment on 4G connectivity issues. But I'm willing to bet that will be sorted as well.
All-in-all I'm pretty happy with the EVO, but I'll probably be a little more wary on my next upgrade about getting caught up in the "next big thing" release hype for whatever's out a year and a half from now.

wont be on verizon, so no
this excites me more anyway: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/3...080p-display-snapdragon-800-and-key-lime-pie/
idk man im ready to drop Verizon like a bad habit i'd like to give t mo a shot
plus nexus htc? I never had the nexus one that came out before my android journey started but from what I hear it was the sh!t
read the article and sounds legit, but a typically releases at the end of the year like that don't fair too well imo. don't you have the dna? didn't htc release a better version of the dna a few months after it's release?

i hear ya...verizon is the only carrier that is actually usable at my job site so i dont see that changing anytime soon (same w/ wifes job)
a google supported htc is great in that its essentially getting aosp support for the htc one...no reason to buy the google edition though at 600 bucks when any gsm htc one will benefit the same from it (unless you want to support htc's endeavor into this)

if I could I would ditch Verizon..their recent practices just keep pissing me off. I just can't because currently its cheaper than any other decent carrier, thanks to my jobs discounts, and its the only truly reliable service out here. T-Mobile is a distant second... Sprint and At&t just suck, signal-wise, out here.
I agree though with an official aosp release coming for the one it will be great for the dev community and anyone who wants a more recent Google endorsed device... too bad its not on Verizon....

I think i'll wait till holiday season for the phone nits was talking about
I intend on getting this one from vzw
sent from recovery
getting an Xperia TX. Time to change to a Sony.
So I really *really* want the One when it comes out for verizon (hopefully it comes in black). Do you guys think its worth selling my DNA and getting it?
IMO? Nope. I'll wait and see what comes closer to the Holidays. The DNA is still a great device.

It is, and I guess you are right. Do you have any idea what phones are coming out? I will start researching this thanks.
I have no idea what's to come, but the last two years, HTC/Verizon has released something between Thanksgiving and Christmas (Rezound and DNA). At this point, I'll wait.

Looks like, for CDMA, its the G2, note 3 and thats pretty much it. The moto x is cool but I think the always listening feature (provided by a dedicated core) is a feature of the snapdragon 800 so most new phones should support it. Makes sense to wait until novemberish. Thank you.
Honestly, like a couple replies above.. I would wait... Typically a launch device will have some bugs and kinks to work out.. Plus, I agree that Verizon may still have something up their sleeve for later this year.. I think holding off until closer to Thanksgiving or even Christmas is a good plan... Plus, if you wait, and nothing comes about, chances are you can get the One for $149.99 or less perhaps on contract... You just never know with Verizon.
I think the One is a great device, but spec-wise, it's almost identical to the DNA.
I do like how the One is all aluminum though, it just has a really great feel in your hand. Buuuut, I really hate the lack of a capacitive recent apps button; I really dig the standard 3 button layout. I just wish more manufacturers went for the soft key layout. I've been really eyeballing that LG G2

Iam speculating/hoping that variant of butterfly s aka DNA2/DNA+ shows up during the holiday period over there
DNA | ⓣⓐⓟⓐⓣⓐⓛⓚ | TF300T
Selling the DNA for the One would not be worth it unless you want a smaller screen. The One may look prettier but the DNA has some better features IMO...larger screen, wireless charging, larger screen. Lol
I have used the One and just prefer the DNA. But to each their own.

A screen that large is just overkill IMO; I already can't reach my back button my DNA with my thumb. Fortunately, there is LMT launcher, which actually allows me to use my phone with one hand again :good:

Try a cm-based ROM with Pie.
As for the OP, just wait it out. I don't see a phone I really want yet. The DNA is reaching it's first birthday but it still is blazing fast and has a great screen, and as far as roms there are a bunch available. I also have an S4 and the speed difference is unnoticeable and the ROM selection is similar. The only thing it has over the DNA is the IR blaster and SD card which I don't even use. At this point upgrading will only get you higher benchmark scores but nothing you would notice in day to day use.
I doubt Verizon is getting another HTC phone this year. I'm thinking they were originally going to skip the One and go DNA2 put there's no need for both phones. Verizon is no about giving us options.
Don't forget besides the larger screen with an already rediculous PPI the DNA has an 8mp camera that's capable of taking incredible photos.
With the Sense5 ROMs well be getting tomorrow we'll just be missing "boomSound".
I am thinking of selling mine for the nexus 5/4+. It is rumored to be available on all carriers, I just hope Google puts their foot down and doesn't let Verizon eff it all up like the Gnex.
And who knows, since it will be holiday time you might still get 250 for the DNA.

I still love my DNA but I also really like the One. Although I don't like the One enough to sell my DNA. Don't really see a point. Just gonna ride my DNA out for the remainder of the contract and get whatever kickass phone comes out when its upgrade time.

I am ALL over that 5.9" behemoth! Great to hear there is "confirmed" rumor by a very reliable source.
You are up for porting a Sense 4+ based ROM to it though...right? LOL JK I'll have to learn to live with Blinkfeed I suppose.
And hopefully Moonshine and/or RevOne will still work for that "thing" we all like to do to our phones!

They just launched 3 new moto droids at once and will have the moto x soon (probably about as long of a delay as the One) so they have no problem over saturating.
With the impending 4.3 update with sense 5 the dna will be a totally different phone. So I would wait for the update then wait til the phone losses that new phone feel and then see what's available to upgrade to
