It worked really well for me. No yellow triangle and no increase in the flash counter.

Hi, i'm having the same trouble, i'm a complete n00b to this just wanting to unlock the sim so i can use another network.
my first attempt got me stuck in boot loop and have since flashed stock rom and got my phone working again.
as i obviously messed up first time around i want to get it done right this time and as i dont understand the technical aspect of what kernal to use i could really use some help.
I also have android 4.0.3 kernal version 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 and for the past 2 days i have read every post in chainfires thread and Odia's thread, nothing is an exact match as with the my first attempt to root.
anyways either i have overlooked what i was looking for or i dont know how to search correctly so anyone that would be willing to point this n00b in the right direction is a legend.
i'd also like to be able to flash back to the secure kernal once i have done unlocking the phone
Many Thanks

this is the easist way to do it in ICS.
no, really.

dear im no exprienced enough .can u plz tell my step by step procedure and risk in this process.thanks

Risk is that you can end with a bootloop.
Ok, extended tutorial:
0a. Download this CF-Root. Unzip it.
0b. Make sure you have installed USB drivers and Kies is NOT running in background.
1. Turn off phone.
2. Power on with Vol+ + Home + Power combo.
3. You should see download mode prompt. Press Vol+.
4. Now, if you see "Downloading...", open Odin.
5. Click on PDA, select .tar file you've unzipped.
6. Do NOT click re-partition or other options.
7. Click Start.
8. After 8 seconds your phone will start booting, but with yellow traingle. It means you have custom kernel and you should have SuperSU app visible.
9. I'm sure that you want to erase that triangle. So, download this app.
10. Copy downloaded .apk if on computer, otherwise install app.
11. Launch it.
12. Press "Reset flash counter"
13. Do not touch phone, just wait.
14. You shouldn't see that triangle no more.

[Q] Reflash stock kernel for samsung galaxy s2 for at&t

Hello there as you can see, I am a NOOB. I came from an Iphone family and I must say I was blind but now I see ANDROID is the way.
I recently got the Samsung Galaxy S2 from AT&T and I LOVE THE PHONE!!! I recently rooted the phone with a modified Kernel via ODIN. I know that in order for me to remove the yellow triangle I need to reflash to stock kernel. I was wondering if there is a thread already somewhere with instructions (for noobs) with the download for the stock kernel for AT&T I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you

Download the file StockKernel-PDA.tar from (Hotfile is dead) see attachment. This is an Odin flashable stock kernel without the ROM.
Follow this procedure to flash the kernel:
Download the Odin3 v1.85 package from MediaFire or xda-developers, or another source of your choice. Odin3 v1.82 will also work. Extract the contents of the zip file to a directory on your hard disk drive.
Start the Odin3 program by double clicking on "Odin3 v1.85.exe".
Now Enter Download Mode:
With the phone powered off, plug in the usb cable while holding the vol up + vol down buttons (but not the power button).
When the warning screen appears, press Volume up to continue into download mode.
In Odin, the first small edit box under the words "ID:COM" will turn yellow, and say something like [0:COM8]. The number could be different.
In Odin, the two items "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time' should be checked, and everything else should be left unchecked. (Very Important)
In Odin, click on the button that is labeled "PDA". In the dialog box find and select the StockKernell-PDA.tar file you downloaded. The tick box next to the PDA button should become checked. This will be the only file that will be flashed.
Click Start. Watch the progress bar advance in green while the message box in the lower left describes the steps. When the flash is finished, the top left larger edit box will turn green and say PASS! and your phone will automatically reboot.
Unplug the usb cable from you phone after it boots up. Success. This will clear the warning triangle.
Now, if you want to install custom software without invoking the warning triangle, follow the Guide, How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash counter!!. If you have already installed a custom rom, and you just want to clear the warning triangle and restore a ClockworkMod enabled kernel, then flash the kernel of your choice using one of the procedures in step 3 of the Guide.
This procedure will clear the warning triangle, but it will not reset the flash counter. The only known way to reset the flash counter is with a micro usb Jig. See the Guide, How to Prepare Your Phone to Return to the Store or for Warranty Replacement for more information about the Jig.
creepyncrawly said:

Updated (older post was before I installed any custom kernel)
Q1
Is the "StockKernel_PDA" same as the stock kernel for any AT&T SGS2 regardless of OS and baseband version?
From what I understand from this post, flashing StockKernal_PDA will strip off the CWM and will need to flash in a custom kernel like Entropy DD or Siyah to get CWM back.
Q2
Is a version of stock kernel available that has CWM too?
Q3
What is PDA in StockKernal_PDA? programmable device array?
If I flash this kernel, will that affect my cwm? I'm running MIUI and have the triangle. Just wanted to know what affects flashing this stock kernel will have.

You need a jig, or you are going to have to flash a Samsung-based ROM then flash MIUI again. Stock kernels cannot be used with MIUI. Stock kernels cannot contain CWM - putting CWM in the initramfs would cause a signature mismatch and it would be considered by the phone to be "non-stock".
For any more information - please read creepy's guide. It's sticky for a reason.
Thanks!

[Q] Rooting Samsung Galaxy s2 GT-I9100G [XWLC2]

Hi all,
My main objective, in the end, is to install CM9 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G because i heard its the best and its really fast. Also, i am done waiting for ICS to be pushed through kies.
So first step is rooting my phone. I tried twice and twice i failed. The first time when i flashed a kernel via odin, it rebooted my phone and i didn't have Superuser. The second time i did that with a different kernel, my screen kept getting stuck at booting page where it was written "Samsung Galaxy s2" and below it a yellow exclamation mark. So i flashed my phone once again with my old 2.3.6 android pda and now its back to normal. I found out it was the wrong kernel i was flashing.
So now i want professional help. I searched the forum, i couldn't find anything.
I want to root my phone. I want to install ICS CM9 on it.
Model Number : GT-I9100G
Android Version : 2.3.6
Baseband Version : I9100GDDKL1
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.7
[email protected] #2
Build Number : GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
Ok, so thats my information. Can someone please give me the download link of what to flash in order to root my phone? All this time i have been doing the wrong thing.
I found a few threads on something called "SUPER ROM v3.1" and stuff, but i didn't try it out because i don't know what it is. Can someone please give me a detailed explanation about all this?
Also if i take my phone for servicing, can they find out in any way that i rooted by phone (even if i unroot it before taking it there)?
Highly appreciated,
Icy

Hey friend , m facing the same prob ... is your prob resolved ?
Lucifer
Hellp there... well i have an i9100G also and had the same problem earlier when i bought the phone... the solution was to flash a new kernel...i have tried 2 kernels the Superatmos (and by that i lost the ability of vibration on my phone) and then i found the nice kernel called Lucifer (which am currently using)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506954 <---- in that link you can find the kernel (i have flashed it through ODIN and things are smooth)

didn't work for me and that's why i had to flash a kernel
That problem of the yellow exclamation on my screen i solved. I simply put my phone on download mode and flashed a 2.3.6 android pda and my phone rebooted fine.
My question is how do i root my phone? Dont give me short forms n stuff, i want a proper tutorial. I dont want to mess up this time. Gimme the download link of the kernel that will suit my phone specifications in order to root my phone! I have flashed the wrong one twice and i am scared of my phone getting bricked if i experiment anymore. I want an expert here on XDA to give me a 100% compatible link that will let me root my phone.
Also , i want to install CM9 ICS on my phone also, so if anyone could link me to that too (which i will do after i root my phone), it would be nice. Otherwise, simply telling me how to root my phone, and what to download for it, would be fine too.
Appreciated.

[Q] Galaxy S2 Won't boot! stuck at yellow triangle

Okay. My phone is just 1 day old and I'm so stupid that I broke it the first day.
So I was trying to overclock it. Then I knew that I needed to root it before I can overclock it... I gave it a try.
I was watching mattj101101's tutorial on Youtube, I saw that his videos has high ratings so I continued and thought that it would be safe to root.
After doing everything right, I was so happy then I went to restart my phone (From this time it has the yellow triangle, I just restarted the phone with the yellow triangle screen on).
After that... I can't use my phone anymore

Flashing is basically loading (writing) the a customized version of the Android OS into read-only memory. In simple terms, installing a new (custom) ROM on your phone.

Yes, you can install the kernel via odin.
The steps involved (credits to chainfire) are as follows:
Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done
Ensure you have the correct drivers for your phone before starting Odin. And also that you have disabled KIES. It tends to interfere with Odin
If you want a long detailed explanation of the process.. try this link

Thanks to all of you guys!
I just fixed my phone yesterday. I downloaded the ICS Siyah kernel and my phone booted past the yellow triangle (the yellow triangle still there though) I also got my device overclocked to 1.5 GHz

Hi im in need of some help. I have recently bought a Samsung s2. I have noticed that it is not up to the current version. But when i go into kies i get a message in the main info section that says .............. Im not sure how i can update it. My phone is from hong kong and has 2 apps installed on it called XDA and superuser. Both of which i can not uninstall. Not sure if that has something to do with it. I am completely new to all this and have no idea of what i need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you buy your phone second hand??
Well If you have superuser... then your phone might be rooted, install terminal emulator and type "su" in it to check or just install any app which needs root and see if the app works after giving superuser permission...
If your phone is rooted... then you have to unroot it before you update to stock via kies...
For unrooting, follow this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW6x29ug5Ms&desktop_uri=/watch?v=tW6x29ug5Ms&gl=GB

How do i perform a wipe? It recommends you to perform one but i cant find anywhere that 1. explains how to do it and 2. does it matter that my phone is only on baseband version 2.something?
You need to learn 'the basics'.
To do a wipe/factory reset; boot into recovery mode - Turn phone off. Hold home/volume up & power buttons. The rest should be self explanatory from there (If it isn't, you seriously do not want to be messing with your phone in the first place. There's a fair chance you'll break it if you persist).
Yeah hah. My phone came like this. Is there any way that i can unroot my phone?
Yes. Flash a stock rom in Odin. Guides on how to do it in that link I gave you, get the stock rom from Samfirmware. This will overwrite your existing rooted kernel/'unroot' the phone.
Easy way
Go into settings -> privacy -> restore to factory defaults.
Bit harder
Turn off you phone, push and hold volume up + home + power button (press simultaneously) till <3e> recovery menu shows up, and then with help of vol up/vol down keys/power to select, use wipe data command.
Thank you. Very much.
What does it mean when the unroot instruction says reboot to recovery?

Just copy your data and restore phone to defaults. Root access will be destroyed!
Read my previous post
I told you how to do it in my first post, and Mar10o told you how to do it in his. Go back, and read. Very carefully/slowly. Can't make it any simpler than that other than to fly there & do it for you (which you don't have enough money for).
Sim card
Will i need to remove my sim card for this process?

Recovery(cwm) is accessed when you turn on your switched off phone using volume up+home button+ power button...
If you really don't want to get confused and stuff...just flash stock ROM using Odin...that's the best solution I've seen so far...
Should I post the instructions??
Firstly check this out... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290

Well i suppose you're new to this a way too much...so just flash stock ROM via PC(odin) and enjoy the phone, until you get bored and want some mods in it..
I'll recommend you to flash the stock ROM coz factory resetting the phone won't change your kernel...
Also its best to download the stock ROM of your count...you can go on http://www.sammobile.com register there, and download the particular ROM file according to your country (after doing this you won't even need to update via kies...you'll be getting the best official update samsung has to offer you for your country)....
If you download the Stock ROM for your phone from above...repeat the exact same steps below, just remember to use the download file from sammobile instead of the one given...
Restoring stock firmware to your phone
Before you attempt to do any of the steps outlined below, make sure that Samsung's Kies software is not running on your machine. Kies has an unfortunate tendency to cause problems when Odin is attempting to communicate with your device, so ensure it is either disabled or uninstalled entirely. It's also worth noting that following the steps outlined below could wipe your handset, so be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose, just in case.
Once you've got everything set up correctly, completely switch off your phone. Once it's off, press the volume down button, home button and power button together. Use the volume up key to place the phone in Download Mode and you're ready to flash that lovely stock firmware to your device. Connect your phone to your computer using a standard micro-USB cable. If you get a message informing you that your phone hasn't been installed correctly, you'll need to grab those Samsung drivers .
Open up Odin and click the 'PDA' button. Find the official 4.0.3 firmware you downloaded to your computer moments previously and select it. Note that this file has been compressed, so you may need to install WinRAR to extract it before loading into Odin. . Having selected your extracted firmware in Odin, ensure that only the 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' boxes are ticked in Odin's user interface, then click start.
Odin will work its magic and flash the official firmware to your device. Once it's finished, your phone will reboot automatically, and you'll be the proud owner of a Galaxy S2 with stock (and all-above-board) Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.
If you get any FC's factory reset your phone...
And remember when we say "wipe" it means format...
Idk whether JB is available for you there or not...but after this kies should work just fine for you...
Sorry for spinning your head and involving you in custom ROMs..i should've posted this earlier..
Press Thanx if I helped...
