Indeed, please do some research yourself. Plenty of guides, info and links on xda, and these questions has been asked way too many times. Make sure you know what you're doing before you do something risky.

First Make Backup of all your contacts and messages in case anything unexpected occurs..
Make sure you have All Galaxy S2 USB drivers installed on your PC before following this and kies disable just in case..
Rooting Procedure:
Step one: First of all make sure that you have download and install all the needed software. Then, Put device in USB debugging mode: Settings ->Applications -> Development -> USB debugging.
Step Two: Reboot your device in the download session mode. To get enter in the download mode of Samsung Galaxy S2, switched off the device and turn it on again by holding Volumedown button + Home button and Power button simultaneously. You will surely reach to the download mode. You can get yourself confirm by identifying same as below mention picture as on your phone screen.
Step Three: Open the ODIN Downloader .
Step Four: Now, with the help of USB Cable connect the device to the computer while keeping the Odin open then wait for the few seconds then odin notified you that the device is connected to the computer(one of its boxes goes yellow). Select the checkboxes next to “Auto reboot” and “F. Reset Time” and kept default else options. After all this, press “PDA” Button and extract and select the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar file(download here) which you have downloaded on your pc. Now Press “Start” button, after this pressing the start button ODIN will flash the kernel and after flashing it phone will reboot. Becareful, don’t dare to disattach the device from computer while rebooting.
DONE..!!!!
Your Phone is Now Rooted...:good:
To check you can see the superuser in app drawer or type "su" in terminal emulator..
Now go into The Android Development Section of Galaxy S2 and select any XXLSJ JB ROM and flash using CWM (follow the steps given to you by the developer)

It worked really well for me. No yellow triangle and no increase in the flash counter.
Hi, i'm having the same trouble, i'm a complete n00b to this just wanting to unlock the sim so i can use another network.
my first attempt got me stuck in boot loop and have since flashed stock rom and got my phone working again.
as i obviously messed up first time around i want to get it done right this time and as i dont understand the technical aspect of what kernal to use i could really use some help.
I also have android 4.0.3 kernal version 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 and for the past 2 days i have read every post in chainfires thread and Odia's thread, nothing is an exact match as with the my first attempt to root.
anyways either i have overlooked what i was looking for or i dont know how to search correctly so anyone that would be willing to point this n00b in the right direction is a legend.
i'd also like to be able to flash back to the secure kernal once i have done unlocking the phone
Many Thanks
this is the easist way to do it in ICS.

dear im no exprienced enough .can u plz tell my step by step procedure and risk in this process.thanks
Risk is that you can end with a bootloop.
Ok, extended tutorial:
0a. Download this CF-Root. Unzip it.
0b. Make sure you have installed USB drivers and Kies is NOT running in background.
1. Turn off phone.
2. Power on with Vol+ + Home + Power combo.
3. You should see download mode prompt. Press Vol+.
4. Now, if you see "Downloading...", open Odin.
5. Click on PDA, select .tar file you've unzipped.
6. Do NOT click re-partition or other options.
7. Click Start.
8. After 8 seconds your phone will start booting, but with yellow traingle. It means you have custom kernel and you should have SuperSU app visible.
9. I'm sure that you want to erase that triangle. So, download this app.
10. Copy downloaded .apk if on computer, otherwise install app.
11. Launch it.
12. Press "Reset flash counter"
13. Do not touch phone, just wait.
14. You shouldn't see that triangle no more.

I attached a picture with what's wrong with my phone and I'll try to explain the issue the best I can. I seem to be having a problem with my Gyroscope it's always tilted to the side, I believe it's from dropping it often I guess but basically I can't use anything that involves me using my Gyroscope that includes pictures. (I'm new to this site btw I hope I'm not breaking any rules.) I'm not sure if that picture is good enough proof but I'll supply more if needed. I've tried calibrating it and nothing changed. I don't know if I have to replace the part or what to do tbh...
I've also got another problem with my s2 I can't seem to get any service or bars on my phone. ( Now I believe it's the sim card but is it possible it could be a hardware issue like the sim card port or something?) and when I do get service/ bars I only get like 2 bars when I'm outside? I really need someones help please and thanks

Since you are from Canada, your device is actually, GT I9100M. The latest update for your carrier is still Gingerbread 2.3.6. It looks like your carrier really hate you people because other carriers already provided ICS updates
My advise is for you to flash an unbranded ICS firmware for any other country, or maybe the one for bell or you can flash your firmware 2.3.6 for Virgin Mobile.
What do you think?
Just recieved a s2 and its running 2.3.4. Plugged it into kies but kies says it cant update firmware ?
Not rooted. Can i download stock rom 4.1.2 and update via odin in one jump (from 2.3.4), without root or anything?
Thanks . have searched but difficult trying to find old threads regarding this

My phone is from hong kong and has 2 apps installed on it called XDA and superuser. Both of which i can not uninstall. Not sure if that has something to do with it. I am completely new to all this and have no idea of what i need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you buy your phone second hand??
Well If you have superuser... then your phone might be rooted, install terminal emulator and type "su" in it to check or just install any app which needs root and see if the app works after giving superuser permission...
If your phone is rooted... then you have to unroot it before you update to stock via kies...
For unrooting, follow this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW6x29ug5Ms&desktop_uri=/watch?v=tW6x29ug5Ms&gl=GB
Else for frequently asked questions related to SGS2.... http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-faq/
If your phone is rooted and has cwn then, Instead just download and flash the latest wanamlite ROM... it's closest to stock and Is awesome...

I have just downloaded android terminal emulator when i typed in su a pop up window appeared and asked for permission from superuser... What does that mean? Where can i find wanamlite ROM? Thankyou for you help.
Mostly your phone is rooted then...that popup that appeared was superuser asking for your permission to give it root access..
Well...firstly coz your phone is rooted...you can flash(install) any custom ROM you want on your phone... Its your choice..
You can get the ROMs here in the android development section of SGS2:

Else for wanamlite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436817

How do i perform a wipe? It recommends you to perform one but i cant find anywhere that 1. explains how to do it and 2. does it matter that my phone is only on baseband version 2.something?
You need to learn 'the basics'.
To do a wipe/factory reset; boot into recovery mode - Turn phone off. Hold home/volume up & power buttons. The rest should be self explanatory from there (If it isn't, you seriously do not want to be messing with your phone in the first place. There's a fair chance you'll break it if you persist).
Yeah hah. My phone came like this. Is there any way that i can unroot my phone?
Yes. Flash a stock rom in Odin. Guides on how to do it in that link I gave you, get the stock rom from Samfirmware. This will overwrite your existing rooted kernel/'unroot' the phone.
Easy way
Go into settings -> privacy -> restore to factory defaults.
Bit harder
Turn off you phone, push and hold volume up + home + power button (press simultaneously) till <3e> recovery menu shows up, and then with help of vol up/vol down keys/power to select, use wipe data command.
Thank you. Very much.

Well i suppose you're new to this a way too much...so just flash stock ROM via PC(odin) and enjoy the phone, until you get bored and want some mods in it..
I'll recommend you to flash the stock ROM coz factory resetting the phone won't change your kernel...
Also its best to download the stock ROM of your count...you can go on http://www.sammobile.com register there, and download the particular ROM file according to your country (after doing this you won't even need to update via kies...you'll be getting the best official update samsung has to offer you for your country)....
If you download the Stock ROM for your phone from above...repeat the exact same steps below, just remember to use the download file from sammobile instead of the one given...
Restoring stock firmware to your phone
Before you attempt to do any of the steps outlined below, make sure that Samsung's Kies software is not running on your machine. Kies has an unfortunate tendency to cause problems when Odin is attempting to communicate with your device, so ensure it is either disabled or uninstalled entirely. It's also worth noting that following the steps outlined below could wipe your handset, so be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose, just in case.
Once you've got everything set up correctly, completely switch off your phone. Once it's off, press the volume down button, home button and power button together. Use the volume up key to place the phone in Download Mode and you're ready to flash that lovely stock firmware to your device. Connect your phone to your computer using a standard micro-USB cable. If you get a message informing you that your phone hasn't been installed correctly, you'll need to grab those Samsung drivers .
Open up Odin and click the 'PDA' button. Find the official 4.0.3 firmware you downloaded to your computer moments previously and select it. Note that this file has been compressed, so you may need to install WinRAR to extract it before loading into Odin. . Having selected your extracted firmware in Odin, ensure that only the 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' boxes are ticked in Odin's user interface, then click start.
Odin will work its magic and flash the official firmware to your device. Once it's finished, your phone will reboot automatically, and you'll be the proud owner of a Galaxy S2 with stock (and all-above-board) Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.
If you get any FC's factory reset your phone...
And remember when we say "wipe" it means format...
Idk whether JB is available for you there or not...but after this kies should work just fine for you...
Sorry for spinning your head and involving you in custom ROMs..i should've posted this earlier..
Press Thanx if I helped...
Hi.
I have a gt-p7500...hmm with both wifi and 3g. and I'm on Android 3.2.
As I have understand Samsung have released a 4.0.4 version for this device or is this wrong (I'm from Sweden) or am I wrong?
If they have not released this 4.0.4 I thinking of trying to flash my device to CM10 (or what it's called) Jellybean. But I don't know how, and im afraid to brick it (have read some scary notes about that.)
Can someone help me straighten this question marks for me?
/Christian Franksson, Sweden.
Yes, Samsung released ICS 404 for the device. Download the relevant files from Sammobile. Assuming you already have the samsung drivers installed on your pc and you have odin 1.85 too on the pc.
Extract the content of the firmware
Boot your device to download mode by simultaneously pressing and holding down power button and volume down the recovery and download modes appear.
Select the download mode by following the instructions.
Once in download mode, connect the device to the pc but ensure that odin is already opened and that usb debugging is checked in developers menu.
When your device is recognised, you will see yellow colour on one of the boxes in odin.
Click on pda and browse to the folder where you extracted the content of the zipped firmware, click the file and in odin, click start.
A green pass will be displayed on the box when the upgrading is successfully done.
Disconnect the device and it will reboot.
When it boots up, you will be on ICS. You can confirm from About Tablet in Settings.
Regarding installing CM 10 or 10.1 Jellybean, you will need to root the device first before you can apply any custom ROM or firmware.

If i decide to root my tablet and install jellybean. is cm10 the best stable choice?

yes that would be very nice of you. If you could write don for me also how i can upgrade to 4.0.4 with odin i would be very happy. Im not sure if i will use 4.0.4 or jelly bean. 4.0.4 is a release from samsung i think. Im on 3.2 now.

If you want a Very stable system completely without bugs, then i would recommend you the official samsung firmware (4.0.4) but if you dont care About a few bugs, then you can choose jellybean 4.1. But when you want to install android 4.1 you have to root your tab and then your warrenty wil be void. So do you want to install the official firmware or do you want to install android 4.1?
