I have searched through posts around this forum and other forums, but am unsure about root. I know how to root my phone, but wanted to know whether I can still upgrade to the official ics upgrade once it's released if I am rooted on gingerbread. I'm talking about the one click root methods that don't require a new kernel.
AFAIK you can. you'll just loose root when it updates
honestly I'd wait a day after the official update is released the devs will probably have it rooted and you wont have to worry about losing root

The official release is probably going to be even more buggy than what we have now...

Why would u "upgrade" to a buggy bloated ics when we have a better debloated ics already? Don't do eeeet.

It's not out yet. Beta testers just got it last night, be patient.
Seriously people, calm down and be patient.
On an unrelated note, why can't I get the update yet?

LOL...pretty funny stuff right there..i dont care who you are
I dont remember the last time I got any official update as I'm always rooting and romming so Im curious about this.
I think if you only root and keep the stock ROM, you will probably still get an update. If you go to a custom ROM, no.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
In most cases, no. Samsung OTA updates are quite picky and typically won't work if you removed some bloatware. Sometimes you will be lucky. Sometimes you may brick your phone if you attempt it. It all happened in the past. So, if you plan to root your phone, be prepared to ODIN full ROMs from now on which isn't necessary bad because ROMs typically leak long before official release.
unfortunatelly
[I don think Web Will ever GeV official ICS foto our tab specially after the release or galaxy Tag 2, 7 inches net month...

This is true. Like I said I've never really stayed stock for an official update.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-rezound-verizon/software-updates!!
The ICS update is official. The download links aren't up on the site afaik, but the update is there. Someone who is stock should check for the update in Setttings>About phone>Software update
HTC has taken down the update from their site, and replaced it with the old GB OTA from January I have uploaded a screenshot I took while it was up because I knew this would happen lol. Now u can't say I'm a liar
Aww yeah Aww yeah

Improvements over previous Rom
1. Contact app is smoth now. No lags. It's still old one.
2. I think new animations are added or changed. But now it feels really smoth.
3. Zram default activated. (I don't know what that is. But read somewhere that it is default now )
It has started

I'm going to be optimistic and think it could (but should be) the UK ICS Rom, Yes it's been 4 months+ and it's still not in the UK!

Yeah I've long since given up on Sony, Now thanks to XDA I can get updates as frequent as they come. I'm on the pre alpha JellyBean rom, it's great!

There already is an official beta?
HAAAAAAX!!!
I think it's just a bugfix update. But maybe it'll boost up performance a little, as upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 did.
There's still that obnoxious LED bug which they HAVE TO fix.
But who knows, who knows...maybe Santa will fly down to us and give us fast and stable Jellybean...

No, it's a unofficial prealpha based on CM10.

No I was saying there is a pre alpha version (AOSP + CM) build of Jellybean courtesy of some XDA developers on here, Sony haven't released ICS for everyone yet and it's been almost half a year!, there is no chance they'll release an official beta any time soon.
Well, I believe in sony. Because they have done brilliant support. And they said they will give a software support for 16 month. So make.believe for jelly bean update.

With 2.3.4 to 4.0.3(.562) i got the update 7-10 days afer its certificaton date in ptcrb
For 4.0.3 to 4.0.4(.431) i got the update on June 5 while on ptcrb its certified on June 15
Hope fully this one fixes all, dont really care about JB or not!
As the way they name thier version i think this is still ics. JB may be 4.2.xxxx

yea i know but im interesting if we will get official updates of kitkat/ now im useing slim been
I would say that we do not get a update, they would not get us the update to 4.1.2, so i think that was the last update.
Now you have to flash costumroms
agreed

I would have to agree. It's a 2 year old device, not matter how you slice it. Unlikely to get anything beyond what we have today OTA. Happy to be proven wrong.
