[Q] sk17i rooted .58 wont update to .62 over-air - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello,
first of all, amazing forum
So lets start, i bought my sk17i, few days ago, and been spending last two days here reading xperia subforum. I think my mini pro came with .58, and i did overair update on the first turn-on to .62. Then started reading here about rooting, and decided to downgrade (flash tool, SK17i_4.0.2.A.0.58_GLOBAL) since its the easiest method to root. I used 4.0 zergrush. At first was getting problems due to MTC had to switch to msc, and rooting when flawlessly, 5 mins max. Deleted some unwanted apps wit super manager (found thread here, with a list of apps that can be deleted safely). I also backed up all apps with titanium.
Now im trying to update over the air to 62 (so i can have newest firmware and still rooted, if done over companion, root is lost), and im getting this error...
Any hints/help on why this might be happening?
Thanks a lot in advance

I had this problem too, and the problem was the firmware version I used. My sk17i was from Brazil, and i had flashed the US .58. After tried a lot of things, I flashed the BR version and it just werks.

Some users also reported that configuring 3G did the trick for them, even if later on they used wifi to download the payload. Have you tried checking for the update over 3G?

i dont have data plan at a moment, so could not try over 2g/3g.
edit: actually, i assume that after downgrading from .58 to .42, i lost root privileges, and then i updated to .62 without noticing it. So now downgrading again, going to root again and then update to .62 my newly phone been taking some stress lately lol

AT&T X10a running X10i Nordic 2.1 downgrade and reupgrade?

Hey guys. This is my first post on this forum, although I've been lurking for quite some time.
When 2.1 had just come out, there was an X10 flasher that would flash 2.1 to X10a phones, which was great for people like me who were on AT&T and hadn't gotten the update yet (and STILL haven't). I noticed that there's a 2.1 rom for the X10a and I was wondering if there's any reason I should switch over to that. If so, can I just use the flashers listed over in that forum, or is there something I need to do to my X10a now that it's running an X10i firmware?
This is sortof related, as well. I want to install xrecovery, so I downloaded the Busybox installer from the market, but it won't install. Surely not because of my X10i firmware, eh?
I apologize for the newbie questions. This is my first android phone and I'm still learning all of the intimate details of the OS.

There is no reason to switch if you are happy with your current FW. However, if you want, yes you can choose the flash tool on here to switch from one 2.1 version to another. Regarding busybox, you need to be rooted to install it.
I'm rooted. I think the problem with busybox is my microsd is currently in my nook. I just rooted it yesterday.
Anyway, the reason I want to switch firmware is because I'd like to try out some custom roms. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I needed to do other than use the flasher before flashing my phone. My friend somehow managed to screw up his Xperia the other night when flashing the old 1.6 rom. We're still trying to figure out the problem.

You can NOT flash from 2.1 to 1.6 with the normal method. You need to download the AT&T unbrick FW and use it with the flash tool. Hopefully, this will solve your friend's problem.
Thanks so much! I'm going to test it out on mine before I try to tell him how to do it (he's not very tech savvy. haha).
I have to disagree. I have ATT and I originally flashed the x10a Brazil Generic and I had Voice Search. I just tried the newest x10i .24 update and I lost the Voice Search (google app that is only currently available in the USA and Froyo 2.2 or with factory software). I just flashed back with the Global x10a and the Voice Search tab (microphone) showed up for a second on first start, but quickly disappeared and the normal tab (magnifying glass) showed up. I am currently searching to forums looking for the Brazil x10a version to reflash my phone and get my voice search back...it is far and away the best feature on my phone...I hope I can find it.

[Q] about to take a plunge....

my service provider is atrocious (3mobile Australia) as they still haven't released the proper update for my X10a. I havent really fully understood the process because there is too much information i.e. old/new/contradicting/too difficult/too many problems... so i decided that i might take the plunge and follow this simple one here on this site
Code:
lazeroth4th.blogspot.com/2010/11/as-in-my-previous-post-ive-said-that-i.html
(sorry if im not allowed to post that link....)
heres some questions i have
i was wondering if i use the global generic firmware will that affect me in any way? I've heard of people haveing trouble with mediascape and timescape not working and needing to be installed in complicated methods
after flashing it to the global generic FW will i just be able to use SEUS to upgrade my 1.6 X10 to 2.1?
Will i be able to upgrade my phone as SE rolls out more updates?
will i be able to come back to my Australian firmware? if so, how can i do that?
please bear with my noobishnes....i've spent at least 8 hours looking at different sites and i just wanna make 100% sure i want to do this...

In regards to issues with mediascape and timescape i had no issues. Well i never had to issues apart from laggyness at the beginnig which is expected. Youll be able to update as normal via pcc or seus. In terms of Australian firmware you can as long as your rooted, there is a thread in this forum on how to do this.
Sent from my X10i Quadrant 832 using XDA App
anther question sorry......
I found an app called androot that roots my phone in the push of a button without the long process. and it installs something called superuser. is that a viable means of rooting my phone or is there a difference in the result of the two methods...

Wifi Sharing + Battery Loss + OSX

Alright, so I've already read the threads about Wifi Sharing dominating the SGS2's battery and it seems like updating the firmware of the phone somehow fixes this.
So heres my problem: I'm on OSX and I can't use Samsung Kies. I can actually use Kies AIR but I can't seem to figure out how to update the firmware.
Apparently my firmware is "KG2" so I'm wondering how I could update my firmware without access to a windows machine. In case I'm already on the latest firmware (which seems logical since I just bought the phone like a week ago), is there any way to stop Wifi Sharing from starting every time I enable Wifi?
I would really appreciate a solution that didn't involve Rooting.
Thank's a bunch guys!

i am afraid without root you wont be able to acces or disable any system file mate.
the only way is rooting (or wait ages for update - oficialone) - if you arent sure what to do ask and u will get help. there are more apps that may produce high battery drain from stock.
So is my version the latest? Also, Why would this be fixed in a previous version but then back again in a latest?

i am running KH3 that is the latest firmware i know. KG2 can be the latest released by your network provider. so if u wanna keep the phone with the latest u can upgrade with ODIN or once u will flash CWM - clockworkmode u can do so with it. but u will need to root the phone ofc.
but KG2 is not the latest for unlocked simfree phone.
wifi sharing is a high battery drainer - and i have removed that form my phone also togheter with the samsung HUBS and a bit more. and i am getting more then double out of my phone compared to stock i was running before mate.
I see. Thanks for the replies!
what exactly did you remove as i see 3 thing relating to wifi sharing

Update past 2.2.2?!

Hey guys! i got a question about the stock firmware update... i was all rooted and rom'd (fairly advancd user) but i was having problems so i decided id odin back to stock for a while to see if it helped the problem (3g data dropping). so i was on bone stok dl09 and did the normal ota updates that brought me to version 2.2.2... and last time i was on stock (about a month ago) that was the latest update. but then my phone started downloading a new firmware update... and it seems like a really big one (so far taken about 20 minutes...could be my connection but im not s sure). so what i want to ask is if this update has gotten to anyone else's phones and if so, what is it?!
thanks in advance

[Q] Rooting SK17i - how? And will I still get ICS?

Hi everybody! I've tried clicking the search button but it's not working for me
How do I root my 0.62 firmware Mini Pro, and will I still be able to get the official ICS release from Sony?
You need to downgrade to .58 firmware, root and then update via OTA so that way youll get a .62 rooted fw, and yes, you'll be able to get ICS update as long as you dont have unlocked bootloader
you are probably new here or havent noticed that, there are now way of rooting .62 yet. the solution is go back to previous or older firmware such as .42, .58 then root will work.
if your phone is rooted, yes you can still update it to ics without unrooting it but the root will probably gone after you update to ics. but no worry about that there already a thread somewhere of how to root ics xperia
Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I think I'll wait for ICS and then root it. No point going through all that hassle only to have it un-root.
Also, I'm very security conscious and Flashtool seems to contain a virus. I know everybody says it's a false-positive and that the exploit is just needed to get root control over the phone. I can understand that. But what's to stop the developer introducing malicious code for bragging rights or whatever?
I'm not saying they did, I'm just saying that I wouldn't know if they did...
