I've got SGSII XEU Vodafone SIM but SIM free phone, updated via Kies, no mods at all (I'm a lurker, rather than a Do-er).
My phone worked a treat on 2.3.4 and I updated the official way. Since then I've had a problem with the phone losing the network periodically.
I've read up on SoD and did have a slight problem with wifi til I set it to 'never sleep' and that's been fine since, but the only way I can get the phone network connexion to revive, once down, is to restart the phone. (thank heavens they included a restart option on the power button *ahem*).
Is anyone else having this problem? I've searched here and couldn't find anything ICS related and I've sent a message to Samsung and heard nothing.
A googler friend mentioned that there was a radio issue which was to be sorted by v4.04 (not specific to my phone BTW), do I just need to be patient and wait for that release or is there something I can try in the meantime.
Apologies if this has been done to death, I found issues logged with gingerbread and rather more serious stuff (the aforementioned SoD), but not this.
and heres a link to the screenshot, note the unwelcome crossed thro circle at the top

One backup data and factory reset .
Fails then take to service centre .
or join XDA developers forum and flash stock Samsung firmware or a different modem or both .
jje
did u check imei no the pic u shows no signal/no sim symbol
When it's working, it does have an IMEI, but it drops off several times a day.
I guess I will just have to backup/restore and see if that helps.
I went the 'official' Kies route as I think it's important for regular consumers to test a company's official systems and I will get on to them again about this - all feedback is good, right?
jje, pardon my ignorance (and thanks for replying so fast!) but aside from the official Samsung FW I've used so far, what should I try next?
no do a factory reset first an if ur restoring titanium bck then stop, cause a bad bckup will carry on....

Has your problem been fixed? I'm facing a similar issue. You did say "When it's working, it does have an IMEI, but it drops off several times a day." As in when you have the signal loss, it does not show an IMEI number? (or 0?) And when it comes back you have the IMEI again?
I did a factory reset and it's gotten slightly better, I get signal drop offs but it usually comes straight back up again without a restart (probably my hand covering the aerial). As to the IMEI I haven't checked recently, will do next time I have to restart (which does still happen occasionally)

Hi Guy,
Yesterday I unlocked my phone in hopes of placing it to another carrier I have at&t. That was successful. I then flashed the modem in hope to get Tmobile 4g working on my phone. But it was giving me issues. I was running Rooted Stock ICS at the time. After doing some reading amount the threads, I've concluded that I probably needed to get a ROM(?) in order for this to work? So I flashed ParaniodAndroids JB on it. Well my new problem is, that I lost the baseband and my IMEI number...and I have no way of getting it back. I did write it down. So I know what my number is, but is there any way to get it back? At this point, I'm ready to give up. I've spent hours looking for info on how to fix this issue. I actually wish I was back to my ICS now. Right now my phone is useless without any signal.
So does this mean that I have a bricked phone? Please let me know if there's anything I can do to salvage my phone.
Thank you.
It was on a Vibrant 4G firmware CM9. Lost IMEI, the field is empty.
Put the stock firmware and IMEI came back from somewhere. I was surprised!
Another story, Vibrant t959 without IMEI fell into my hands. What should I do? As a result, the system folder EFS copied from another of the same phone.
IMEI was not a native, the other 00044400111 started with something like this. But the phone rang and worked!

Hmm? This is my original thread. I'm not the author of the other. Sorry for the bad grammar but I was up all night trying to fix my phone. I am at work and still reading up on how to get this fixed or restored. Any help will be appreciated. I have PM'ed a couple of people hoping for some assistance. I hope they get back to me, but if not, I guess I will keep reading.
Right now, I am aware of two choices.
#1. Get Samsung Kies to factory reset my phone in hopes of restoring my IMEI number and basebands. [But what if Kies doesn't recognize my phone?]
#2. I bricked it and can't do anything about it. [I really hope that's not the case]
Hi!
I have a problem with my S2.
So, yesterday, I tried to tether through USB and I saw it was't working and I said I'd change the ROM and it will work. I changed 3 ROMs and realised that USB wasn't working (neither in ROM or recovery) An hour ago, I tried connecting it to Odin and after 5 minutes, I succeded in Odin recognising it and I started flashing official software, but phone randomly disconnected. Now, if I try to connect it, I can't and the phone does not boot and does not enter recovery. What can I do?
PS: Sorry for bad english.
PS2: Tried connecting phone to 3 Windows 7 PCs and a Mac and it wasn't recognised at all.
worn out?
I'm not sure but I think the contact/connecter is worn out... I have a similar problem with random disconnects mainly when charging the phone but also sometimes with usb-pc connections. Changing to newer cables helps a bit but not entirely...
If it is not rom related I don't know what you can do more then trying another usb cable or buying a new phone. I guess that's not an option?
You also said your phone does not boot and you can't enter recovery... But what about "download mode"? As long as you can enter download mode you can fix the software in your phone but to do that you need the usb to be working correctly with no disconnects or else odin will mess up every time!
Replace USB board. Has been discussed here many times over the past month or so; search for those threads.
The USB port seems to be the weak point of the S2. It is seemingly the most replaced part for this phone.....I have had to do it myself, and have helped others in a similar situation. If you search my topics, you'll find one called 'video tutorial' which shows a step by step process for 'tearing down' an S2. This will help if you decide to replace the board yourself. Online shopping sites are a good place to source the part you need. But be advised, there are THREE different versions of this part (REV2.2, REV2.3 and REV2.4) see the photo below to find out where to look for the version number....
Make sure you get the same version as you remove, as a mismatch at this point is likely to cause other problems. ....

Finally....do not attempt to recover your phone until you have replaced this part.......the chances are that you will make things worse.....to the extent that your phone *may* become unrecoverable......

Phone has been working a treat for sometime and I settled on the "StockMod Rom", see below:
What I didn't know was that the S3 has an issue where the it stops registering the SIM on the network. Note that it did show the correct IMEI number. The first time this happened I just turned it off/on a dozen times and reset the SIM. But the second time this didn't work. So I spend about 10 hours trying to fix it and I only made it worse. One of the options was to reload the modem files which I did from the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
and that made things worse. Now I have no network at all, see screen shot:
Also I note that the above status is showing the phone as model SGH-T999, which is the T-Mobile version. So thats obviously a problem.
Can anyone guide me through how to recover my phone. This would be hugely appreciated as working with my old rooted and rom'd motorola MB860 is tiresome.
Many thanks Darrin.

Read this: [REF] IMEI / EFS - Know this stuff (i9300) - including "no network"
Hi guys, I have a problem with my S3, it keeps asking me to insert sim card, i tried different sim cards, none worked, tried changing the whole card reader/slot with a brand new one, but it didn't fix the problem.
everything started approximately a month ago, i tried rooting the phone after applying the 4.3 update but i missed up and almost completely killed the phone, after allot of effort I managed to bring it back to life and re-installed the firmware update, but the phone started giving me the "Not registered on network" error, and the IMEI changed to that 0049 thing, then it started telling me to insert sim card (at first it was just saying "emergency calls only").
the thing is, before all this happens I had no idea how important it is to backup before applying anything with odin, so I have no EFS backup, the IMEI is apparently fixable but this "insert sim card" thing is what i have no idea how to fix, since the last hope was changing the slot and it didn't help either.
I tried going through other posts but none of them had an answer.
so, any ideas what could be the cause? and how to fix it?
PS: the signals bar is still moving, i mean when i'm somewhere with no signal at all it becomes that circle that indicated no signal, and i'm where signal is strong it goes all the way up to 4 bars, time as well is still accurate, done a downgrade to Android 4.2.2 to see if it could change anything, still same problem, now I upgraded again to 4.3 and am hoping for an answer to what could've been the cause of the problem and how to fix it
oh and one more thing, i have a question, does patching the wrong Kernel and Modem have any relationship to this problem? when it was telling me "Not registered on network", one of the things i tried was patching a Modem, that's actually what was shared the most through forums, and I remember reading that it does no harm but it can help fixing the problem even if it's not on the same exact firmware. the firmware I have is XXUGNA7 and the ones i patched were for XXUGMK6, both are android 4.3 (HOPEFULLY )

Hi,
I am using CM13 Nightly 13.0-20160618 with Boeffla Kernal. Facing the zero network issue on both my sims. My phone will not get network without rebooting the phone. Even airplane mode would not fix the issue. I observed that this issue happens when there is a MMS on my phone to be retrieved and just after that the signals gets lost and wont come back until the reboot. Anybody facing such issue.
Thanks
Flashed latest unofficial cm13 update and also got no network, also my sim just gets ignored. Couldn't find a fix so far. It seems iemi or efs folder are corrupt

Word on the street is you just restore efs from your OOS backup, probably from any backup I imagine.
Tried this ?
Also try what @Exodusche above mentioned.
PS - Wallpaper please ?

Thanks man.
My wife has a similar problem to this regardless of what ROM she uses, whether its stock OOS or CM based.
It only happens with her SIM on the Three network, you might reboot the phone and there'll be absolutely no signal, then it might just kick back in after an hour and be absolutely fine then until the next reboot. Stick another carrier SIM in like Vodafone and it is absolutely fine, stick a SIM in either slot and Vodafone will be fine but the Three SIM will do the same thing. Don't think its a hardware fault as would expect to see the same issue with other SIM's at the same time. She had her SIM replaced and it made no difference. Three won't help any further because the phone isn't supplied by them.
I think its some sort of modem software bug but I'm not sure. If i put my Three SIM in as well it does the same, if I put her SIM in my phone it works no problem!
