[Q] S2 USB not working - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have a problem with my S2.
So, yesterday, I tried to tether through USB and I saw it was't working and I said I'd change the ROM and it will work. I changed 3 ROMs and realised that USB wasn't working (neither in ROM or recovery) An hour ago, I tried connecting it to Odin and after 5 minutes, I succeded in Odin recognising it and I started flashing official software, but phone randomly disconnected. Now, if I try to connect it, I can't and the phone does not boot and does not enter recovery. What can I do?
PS: Sorry for bad english.
PS2: Tried connecting phone to 3 Windows 7 PCs and a Mac and it wasn't recognised at all.

worn out?
I'm not sure but I think the contact/connecter is worn out... I have a similar problem with random disconnects mainly when charging the phone but also sometimes with usb-pc connections. Changing to newer cables helps a bit but not entirely...
If it is not rom related I don't know what you can do more then trying another usb cable or buying a new phone. I guess that's not an option?
You also said your phone does not boot and you can't enter recovery... But what about "download mode"? As long as you can enter download mode you can fix the software in your phone but to do that you need the usb to be working correctly with no disconnects or else odin will mess up every time!

Replace USB board. Has been discussed here many times over the past month or so; search for those threads.

The USB port seems to be the weak point of the S2. It is seemingly the most replaced part for this phone.....I have had to do it myself, and have helped others in a similar situation. If you search my topics, you'll find one called 'video tutorial' which shows a step by step process for 'tearing down' an S2. This will help if you decide to replace the board yourself. Online shopping sites are a good place to source the part you need. But be advised, there are THREE different versions of this part (REV2.2, REV2.3 and REV2.4) see the photo below to find out where to look for the version number....
Make sure you get the same version as you remove, as a mismatch at this point is likely to cause other problems. ....

Finally....do not attempt to recover your phone until you have replaced this part.......the chances are that you will make things worse.....to the extent that your phone *may* become unrecoverable......

[Q] Wlan does not work. Not even with Stock Rom

Hey Folks,
I know this question has been around several times, but I already tried searching most threads that were listed with wlan problems: none seems to solve my problem. Most threads deal with router settings and problems with pairing devices with special routers.
However, my problem seems to be more basic: I cannot find wireless lan networks, no matter how insecure (or secure) they are. They simply are not even listed in my device. Not on windows 6.5 (duttys) nor on the most recent Stock rom and neither on android (mdeejay rev. 1.6).
I heard it might be an issue with the radio rom. Currently I use the latest Radio rom 2.15.50.14. My device has HSPL version is (2.08 - afaik).
For your information, what happend: my HD2 was broken after a bike acciddent and I sent it in for repair. After getting my motherboard replaced, I was no longer able to find any wireless lan. So I flashed the 2.15 radiorom (non-tmous). After the fist boot, I saw my wirelesslan at home appear only one glance, then disappearing for good (just flashing for 1 or 2 seconds in the wlan list of winmo 6.5). From then, all my efforts to connect to any wirelesslan were in vain. I cannot find any wireless lan. Trying to add a SSID manually, does not work.
Is there anyone with the same problem, does anyone have clous on how to fix this issue? I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance,
jokeR.
Hey guys, i just fixed the device.
So for others having the same problem my solution:
Obviously the wirelesslan antenna was not connected to the motherboard after I had recieved it from the motherboard replacement.
I had to open my HD2 and ended up like the picture below.

On the left side you can see the motherboard/camera/screen-device. Locate the camera. Right to the Camera there is a black cable that is connected from the platine where the camera sits to the motherboard on the lower part of the device with a simple snap.
That cable hang loose on my device, after connecting it to the motherboard, my wirelesslan works properly no matter what radio rom was used.

[Q] PC Unresponsive when USB Plugged in

Hey Guys,
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S2 I-9100 Carrier T-Mobile Hungary; though this started back when I was using AT&T from the US

I am having the problem very similar to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317916&highlight=USB+does+-work
Though the poster has abandoned the question so I thought it wise to repost.
What I have seen:
When Plugging my device into any computer using any USB cable the result is the same.
If on - nothing happens; no notice on the PC and no charge on the phone. I have tried with debugging on/off, I have tried USB Mass storage mode no difference.
If off - It will turn on the phone and then the phone will show charging state though it will lose a charge and the PC will not say a device was plugged in. Also if phone is unplugged after it is on it will continue to say it is charging until a reboot.
If in Recovery Mode - Mounting any form of drive is not seen by the computer.
If in Download Mode - Device will say charging and drivers will attempt to install on the computer and I will see an unaccessible folder in "computer" that says "samsung i-9100"
I have just checked the web for updates and it says none found. To my limited understanding I am using a Stock ROM with an edited Kernel to give me root access.
I performed the update of the Kernel identically on both my and my fathers Identical phones and his has not had any problems. The only difference between the two is He is still on AT&T US; While I have moved to Hungary. But as I said the problem existed before that
If there is ANYTHING I can gather or forgot to submit that may offer some light to my problem please let me know.
Thank-You Very much for reading.
Regards,
Joshua Puckett
Fixed - I was using the cable that came with my Storm 2 BlackBerry; and tried after that a Cable I had bought at Radio Shack.
Once I tried the original Sammy cable it all worked;
Thanks to those who looked!

Cyanogen 9 suddenly died - brick

I have had Cyanogen 9 running fine for a few months. About 2 weeks ago I changed the modem, but I don't think that should be the cause of my current problem (but I could always be wrong).
Out of nowhere, apps suddenly started crashing. Everything I was using gave me a crash message. Dogcatcher and Facebook, in particular. I rebooted and the phone did not get past the Cyanogen boot screen.
I've tried to re-rom it, but CWM Recovery seems to be gone too. It goes straight into download mode. I tried to flash 6.0.1.2 with Odin but nothing changes. It still puts me into download mode.
Edit: Just found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458&highlight=unbrick
I'll play with that for a minute here. Fingers crossed.
In future......

Also, your device is not "bricked". Just go into download mode, flash Siyah v4 kernel, reboot into recovery and then flash rom, done!
Yes yes, I did a fair bit of searching before posting. It just so happened that very soon after posting, my searches actually turned up something! lol
Trying Siyah. Brb...
Edit: Odin does not seem to like .zip files. I'm using Odin 3.07. Do I have to change it to .tar?
More edit: OMG, nothing I'm trying is working. This is really bad timing. I need this phone RIGHT NOW. I'm sorry for being a noob, but I desperately need help.
Still editing: Ok, I've worked out that there's a difference between a CWM .zip package and a .tar Odin package. I've got Siyah 5 installed now. I just need to find a way to get the rom onto the sdcard so I can flash Cyanogen 10 (since 9 apparently doesn't work with this kernel). Normally this would be easy, but I'm traveling at the moment and don't have all my gadgets and adapters with me.
WiFi ? Lots of apps on Google Play enable WiFi transfer (from a PC or whatever). If you "don't have all your gadgets" & no access to a PC of some description with WiFi (or a card reader even), you're not fixing it.
Edit - Or...(I forgot the bleeding obvious). Download the file(s) you need directly to the phone from CM's site/whatever using WiFi somewhere (hotel/net cafe/elsewhere); will be infinitely cheaper than using a carrier's network (unless you're using your home carrier or have a good data allowance cheap data. If you're roaming this could be expensive).

Bricked?

Hey everybody, so I bought myself a messed up vibrant hoping I could fix it. Originally it acted like this:
Plug it in to charge: shows the stock loading bar, then loading bar with battery, repeat.
Turn it on: shows the at&t world phone screen, (I think they tried to flash captivate files to it) (yes I am sure it is a vibrant, I have had 3 now)
Wouldn't even go into download mode, definitely not recovery.
I bought a USB download mode jig, and that worked wonders on it and got it to download mode!
My micro USB port on my phone is junk, but I finally got odin to recognize it, but it failed after saying setup connection forever.

Any ideas? Is JTAG the only option I have at this point, if so anyone know who'll do it for less than $50?
If it helps I have a linux computer.
Maybe the unbrickableMOD? I suck at soldering and I don't really know anyone who is good, but I might be able to make that work as a last resort.
Now it has changed its mind once again, I put the USB jig in and it went to the soft bricked screen with the cell phone...!...computer
It can't be a problem with the cable or the computer because I have tried several ports and I have used same computer with odin many times.
It has changed its mind once again, now we're back to download mode.
I have finally gotten it back in download mode, now trying to get odin to see it again and not have the computer just say usb device not recognized . Any ideas for this?
Progress! Now it will say but i still cannot get odin to recognize it again, any ideas? I have and am trying multiple versions of odin just to make sure.
Now we're back to .
Still no ideas? If I can get odin to recognize it again I think I have a special odin to fix it.
Eh, maybe I'll scrap it for parts.
Try and get odin to recognise it and flash i9000 pit file. It should flash successfully. Then try flashing the firmware, make sure you include the pit file.
Kindly hit the THANKS button if i helped.
I AM A POTAYTOE!!! :banghead:
Sounds to me like your usb port is bad. www.mobiletechvideos.com will replace it for you or you can just order the part if you know how to solder but you must be really good at soldering or you will ruin it. They also offer jtag I believe but I don't feel like you need that. Mobile tech is a very trusted source FYI, so purchase with confidence if you go that route.

My S2 won't turn on

First of all, sorry but my English is pretty bad.
I have a S2 that I want to use it just occasionally (as businesses phone). It charged perfectly but sometimes it shows this 'error'

I've tried installing CM and Gapps but i can't from stock recovery, so I also tried to install TWRP from Odin but i get another error.
You guys know any solution or is completely dead?

Do a Google search for:
"USB jig for Samsung"
Or a search for:
"300k resistor method Samsung"
You'll find information for a couple of different tricks to force-boot your device into download mode and then you can flash your stock firmware using Odin.
If it is at all possible for you to revive the device, this should do it.
If it doesn't, then it can only be repaired by:
1) replacing the motherboard
2) a JTAG service(or buy the expensive JTAG hardware for yourself and learn how to use it). The service is probably still around $50 but I'm not sure.
3) Pay for an Octo box or a Riff box service(or similar hardware interface equipment)
Or buy the Octo box/ Riff box or other interface for yourself and learn to use it.
There is also, possibly, a trick that involves a somewhat complicated method of booting a stock debrick.img that has been burned onto an external sdcard that has been formatted as a "bootable" drive and then using the booted OS to repair the partitions on the device, then after everything is restored and booting properly without the external sdcard, you return the external sdcard to normal format as storage instead of as a bootable drive. You can probably find a copy of debrick.img(sometimes labeled as debrick.bin) for S2 or maybe you can get someone else here with a S2 to pull a debrick.img(.bin) from their device using terminal emulator or adb shell. If your device does not at least vibrate or light up the capacitive hardkeys when you try to power on the device, this method of booting from external sdcard will not work on your device but a JTAG service will probably do the job, however, there is no guarantee that the service will work.
Also, I can't see what the second photo that you posted is. Can you repost it correctly so that I can view it?
