What do I need? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

My wife needs to show a PowerPoint Presentation on our Prime. I have Smart Office 2 which shows the PP but what adapter/cable do I need for her to attach the Prime to a Projector to show this PP to a Group? I guess I need to find out what type of Attachment the Projector has for input.
Thanks

This might sound like a lot of adapters but this is what i do (if its uses dvi)
Micro hdmi male to hdmi female-> hdmi cable -> hdmi female to dvi male (you need to figure out what type dvi it is just google it)
Then for sound just a double sided male 3.5mm cable
On eBay you can get everything pretty cheap (around 7 bucks) if you dont mind waiting
Edit: i think asus sells something that converts micro hdmi to vga

Thanks for info. I had a HDMI to DVI cable so I Ordered a Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable and also a Female to Female HDMI adapter. If I am think correctly this would give me a way to Attach to Prime to a Projector if it has a HDMI or a DVI input. I might need to get VGA adapter but I am hoping this is a Newer Projector she will be using so it will have HDMI or DVI.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 - Micro HDMI to VGA Adapter @ Ebay

With a micro hdmi to hdmi cable, you will just need the female hdmi to dvi cable. Only need a standard hdmi cable if you're using a micro hdmi to hdmi adaptor.
Cullenmq1, you can go from 3 accessories to 2 by replacing your micro hdmi to hdmi adaptor with a micro hdmi to hdmi cable. Just saying....
I bought a 15ft micro hdmi to hdmi cable on ebay for $10. I already had a 6ft version of that cable left over from my Evo 4G (as my Evo 3D uses a MHL adaptor for hdmi output) but wanted one that was longer to use with Prime.

I knew the minute I hit Buy that I had screwed up. I received my Cable today I had indeed ordered a "Mini" not "Micro" HDMI to HDMI cable. I have ordered the Correct one now. I will just keep the other one because I only paid $3.99 for it and it cost me a few dollars to return it....

[Q] HDMI to VGA Adapter

There is an official HDMI to VGA adapter from Asus
However, I was wondering if third party adapters could work. I found one from dealextreme that is male-mini-HDMI-to-male-VGA adapter.
If Transformer supports analogue VGA signal via HDMI port, then I think it should work. If the official adapter has some additional D/A converter built-in (which I think is unlikely), then only the official cable will work.
Has anyone tried?
Could you please give us a pointer of the official HDMI to VGA from Asus?

It's not released yet.
Generic ones should work fine. But be prepared for some long chains. e.g. mini to regular HDMI, HDMI to DVI, DVI to VGA.

it really depends on the tablet, since HDMI is digital and VGA and DVI is analog, so it depends if the tablet actually gives a analog signal or not
if it doesn't you're gonna need a DAC to use VGA =/
Tried it?
Has anyone tried a mini hdmi to vga cable? If so please can they confirm.

Second here...tried it...not working
Ya it doesn't work for me too.
I suspect ASUS mapped the pins differently from the HDMI pins to the VGA pins. If ASUS can make the HDMI-to-VGA adapter work, that means the Transformer can already support analogue signal output from the HDMI port. Or else they would need a bigger adapter to do D/A conversion outside the tablet. If so, then once someone got hold of the mapping, it would be easy to mass produce a HDMI-to-VGA cable for the tablet.
FOTA Update?
If you have had the FOTA ASUS update and have a mini HDMI to VGA adapter please can you test. Looks like this update added support for the new Asus accessories, of which is the Asus VGA adapter.
I use the HP HDMI->VGA adapter and it works just fine. I need to use an adapter to convert to MiniHDMI.

you have that working on your transformer?
could you post a link to the exact model?
Working too here.
http://www.amazon.com/HP-HDMI-Vga-Display-Adapter/dp/B0038KFTZK
But, the official one is about 25$, and need no adapter. Soo if you dont have hurry, you may wait for it.
Beware that normal cable adapters may not work, since a digital - analogical convertion is needed.

Yes! The offical asus conveter is very similar, but already have the mini hdmi, but the adapter is small. Noticed that it may not be easy to found this adapter ina a retail store, I forgot to buy it online when I buyed the hdmi to vga converter. (Note: I saw some converter, with external power adapters, but this is clean, small and works!)

What. Digital Visual Interface, what's analog about it? DVI-I does analog too, but it's still a digital connection that can do analog. If the video card supports HDMI encryption with a cheap adapter DVI can even send HDMI signals.

Monoprice sells mini HDMI to HDMI adapters for $2 + s/h. It'll work with the HP HDMI to VGA converter. If there's some distance between the monitor and the tablet, Monoprice also sells mini HDMI to HDMI cables, up to 15 feet long. The 15 ft cable is about $5 + s/h.

Hdmi

Well I did not find anything on Hdmi so can anyone tell me what to use to watch movies on my tv. I have the converter for micro to Hdmi.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
You need to have a MHL adapter. The first evo would use a basic micro HDMI cable. But the 3D uses a micro USB/HDMI combo, hence the MHL. once you have that, you plug the adapter into the micro USB, then a HDMI plug and your charger into it.

Yours has micro usb or micro hdmi? The adapter u need has two ports on it. It won't work unless u are running power to it at the same time u run hdmi.

I got my mhl cable from tmobile. Cheapest I found and works great. Just finished watching the new apes and final destination movies on my hdtv. Only downside is it sucks battery like a mofo. Even while charging and hooked up to the tv it loses battery

USB Host ?

Can EEE PAD Transformer support Full USB HOST functionality using stock connector provided by ASUS using something like below FEMALE TO FEMALE USB Adaptor ?
http://www.hkcolordigital.com/usb-2.0-a-female-to-usb-2.0-a-female-adapter.html
I know ASUS dock keyboard do have USB port and also, ASUS is selling USB adaptor for around $45, but I do not want to spend that much.
Since ASUS stock connector which is used for charging as well as data transfer from PC support USB functionality, I believe it should be easy to implement.
Any suggestion/solution ?
Thanks
No, it wouldn't work.
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/asus-tablets/17308-usb-useful-transformer.html
I can't find pinout for ASUS charging connector, but i think it has USB-host pins in it - so you should just solder an USB-female to them in right order.

USB Adapter Coupler Type A Female to Female
I have ordered "USB Adapter Coupler Type A Female to Female" from ebay ($3 including shipping):
http://www.ebay.in/itm/120868617077?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_932wt_1143
Once it reaches to me, I'll try what is possible with it.
I received the "USB Adapter Coupler Type A Female to Female" today and tried to connect USB pen drive and as it was expected, NOTHING HAPPENED.
But, I still think it is possible. I have seen Nexus and Galaxy phones with USB host online.
I think, to be precise, it is not only Female to Female adaptor to be connected to stock connector, but it needs some power (+5v) as well. For this, I think it need USB Y Connector, as in attachment. Below is the link for reference:
http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Msm_Usb_Host
Now, I am thinking to open Female to Female USB connector and solder 2-wire with USB Male connector to it (I have extra USB mouse) for power (+5V & Ground) and try again.
look at last link in my previous reply. There are photos of disassembled host adapter and some schematics-pinouts. TF has USBhost, but it on different pins than usb-slave cable.

[Q] Does it come with a MHL adapter to connect to HDMI?

On the t-moibile site, under features for the phone, it lists:
MHL adaptor for HDMI capability
Does it come with such an adapter out of the box? I'm interested in using it to connect a usb card-reader to it so I can easily copy photos from my camera.

No, I it doesn't come with one in the box. In fact, I it was publicized that no other adapters aside from the official Samsung one would be compatible with the phone because Samsung changed the pin layout for the GSiii.
No, but I found one on Ebay that works great and a lot cheaper to boot!
Edit : Wait...I bought one for my SGSII...I assumed it would work with the SGSIII, but perhaps I'm wrong! I'll have to test it and report back!
I wish. I checked then out online and they are like $40. It seems like way to much to just hook it up to my tv, and then the samsung car mount/charger is another $50. it seems like samsung is going the way of apple. at least apple gives you a dock when you buy a phone.
Don't worry. Third party accessories will catch up soon enough. That is lousy of them to charge so much for such a piddly little adapter.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
just buy a USB OTG (on the go, or host usb) adapter if your just looking to transfer files from a card reader, the MHL adapter is primarily for video output, not input
I just got 2 USB host adapters from the link below for less than $3 shipped....also below is a video from android.NZ that shows all the crap we can plug into this beast of a phone
As for MHL Adapter compatibility, it will ONLY work with 11-pin MHL adapters, Most are 5-pin

MHL Cable

I just purchased an MHL cable from best buy. The phone recognises it as a dock but does not mirror to the tv. I've seen that there are adapters that may work as opposed to a cable. anyone have any experience with this?

MHL works, 720p
I have a Skiva aftermarket MHL cable (red cable that splits into an HDMI cable and a full USB for charging) and I also have a PNY MHL to HDMI-female adapter. Both work perfectly no additional power source required. However they both only output at 720p.
Full mirroring in 720p
(Cannot post links yet, but just search under amazon for these product names)
PNY MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) to HDMI Adapter A-MH-XX-K01
Skiva 6.5 feet MHL (Micro USB) to male HDMI cable
(Skiva gives you a $10 amazon gift card after reviewing the product)

TJ, I also ordered the Skiva MHL cable. The signal cuts out once every minute or so. This doesn't happen with yours?
Thanks,

Works fine here? How about this?
Mine doesn't cut out at all. I watched the whole Avengers movie as well as several episodes of Top Gear through Netflix with no hiccups.
I DO have a custom kernel which allows fast charge from unauthorized sources. My guess is that due to that, the phone is supplied with enough power to sustain the mirroring. So if you are still on the stock kernel I would try that first.
On a side note, for video files I've had a great experience with "Super Video, Floating & Popup" (by GpcSOFT) to output the video through the MHL and then just have it display super tiny on the phone as a tiny movable pop-up so I can continue to use the phone for things like texting too. (Might saves a bit of battery life too since it's not full-screen on phone?)
The phone needs power while in MHL mode so if your cable doesn't allow power like ones with adapter boxes it won't work.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I have the PNY adapter...Works AWESOME! But it does need external power (well the phone needs it, but the power cord gets plugged into the PNY adapter)
THanks for the recommendation
