I bought one and tried it on the way home from the store with the Asus AC charger and the transformer and it worked perfectly.
As a bonus it has a usb port built in not only rated at 1000ma but wired to be recognised as an AC charger (many arn't) which means it will do full speed charging on an android phone. So it should supply enough current to charge my HTC Desire even when using it as a satnav (many don’t). The only downside is that the flange on the Asus mains charger covers the edge of the USB port on the inverter so you cannot use both the AC and the USB at the same time without trimming the flange on the Asus a little.
Anyway I thought this was too good a deal not to share it with you guys.

The ASUS AC charger is normally working very close to it's limits when running off fairly stable AC mains. Running off this modified sine wave poorly regulated device may be enough to push it past its limits. If you want a good mobile solution that you can use for the TF and other small DC devices, search for the thread by Devcake where he lists options and actual reviews.

Does your TF indicate charging, e.g. with Dual Battery Widget, using this bullet charger?
E.g. If it outputs 11V-12V it should indicate charging on the TF, but if less than 11V, say 5V-10V, it would trickle charge only (no indicator).
I got one from same guy, and it does not work. I measured 2.8V output.

Mine arrived today. I hooked it up to 12v and tested the pins, got 2.8v. Then plugged i transformer and waited about 20 seconds. The transformer said it was charging on AC. I havent checked to see how quickly it was charging, but it gave the charging indication with the screen on.
EDIT: Tried it on another vehicle and now won't charge. Weird!
Any update to this working?

This one arrived today, there is one small issue with it, when you first plug it in the lighter the blue light gets bright and the asus orange light goes on and eventually green showing also the charging symbol, but if you unplug the cable from the charger and plug back in, it wont work, you have to unplug the charger from the lighter and plug back in. weird... But it works
This claims to be even more powerful. Just ordered but it will takes ages to get to me.

sorry, I don't think it will work.. the transformer needs 15V to charge, that one only is a 5V charger. i'd cancel my order.
OK, let's go over this again. The TF will charge with 5V at 1.5 amp but take forever to do so. The amps has nothing to do with it. It is the volts. If you feed the TF with 11V to 15V at 1.5 amp's or more it goes into the fast charge mode and charges in about 2 hrs. Anything that says 5V will charge the TF if you have several days to wait. If you have just hours you must charge using 11 to 15 volts at 1.5 amp or more to charge with. This is what the original power supply is doing. Please look at the specifications printed on the original charging brick. Note that it has dual outputs 5V and 15V if you plug your phone into the ASUS charger the charger is smart enough to know not to output 15V however when you plug in the TF the charger outputs 15V to charge the TF in the speedy mode.
Please read over "Dvecakes" thread for even more details and items you can use to charge the TF on the go and at home.

Unfortunately, worthless.
Transformer needs 11v-15v to charge reasonably well. Any 5v charger, even at 1000000 amps, will not charge the TF with screen lit, or charge takes days with TF turned off.
Much harder to find auto chargers in the 11v-15v range, some that say 12v are actually not. I found one advertised as 12v (that measures 9.8v actually) and it also did not charge TF. Good luck.
Wont work. Unlike most devices the Transformer does not use 5v to charge like the iPhone and many other Android devices. It does use USB but it will only charge via Asus's special chargers. This is because our Transformers charge via 15volt and the charger cable is actually a USB 3.0 cable that has extra pins in back, and the 15volt pin is one of these extra pins the USB 3.0 layout provides.

Be aware that it's incorrect to say that the TF won't charge from a standard USB charger. It does charge however it only trickle charges and therefore takes much longer. So let's make sure we are clear when we respond about what works and what doesn't. I used my iPad 2 amp charger on the TF and went from about 30% charge to about 85% charge in about 6 hours (screen off). The absolute fastest way to trickle charge from a generic adapter is with the TF powered off. Hopefully Asus will come out their own car adapter for the TF.
The charger that the original poster mentioned WILL trickle charge the TF. Also new TF users should know that the TF will not give any charging indications when plugged into anything other than the Asus charger - but it is trickle charging none-the-less.

One thing to mention that you can do if you have the tock is trickl-echarge THAT while still using the pad... then in 5-6 hours when the padd is getting low, you can dock it, and it will charge off of the dock while you keep using it. Once fully charged, undock it again, etc. This is what I want to do, and why I want a second USB cable.

I was wondering if ASUS had a recommendation of a reliable one, or maybe even had one in the early stages of development.

It's a different one but same functionality. I always have it in my truck and has totally replaced the need for me to have any dedicated mobile chargers. Worked fine for my prime on a recent road trip.

Since the car runs off of a 12v battery, it should be relatively easy for ASUS to produce a charger designed for the Prime.

Though yes I agree. It would be easy enough for them to make one just has to be financially sound.
Can be totally wrong now.
Prime Needs 11+ volt to charge in normal speed.
A Phone or the standard chargers with a usb port that you can find anywhere usually output 5V.
People swap charger back and forth between their phones or other devices that have USB connection on the charger.
If Asus release a charger for Prime that Output 11+ volt I don't think it would be to good if people plugged there phones that only need 5V.
And I pretty sure that people will try to use it and don't look at the specifications of the charger and the specifications of their device. They will just plugg it in expect it to work. And after their phone broke they will blame Asus for release a charger that don't work with other devices.
And if Asus release a charger that don't have a removable cable and that only fits Prime. Folks will be made about that to.
Just some late night thoughts.

Correct...It would have to be a dedicated cable to cigarette lighter .....not a removeable cable.

Shouldn't be a problem, the prime charger and usb cable are designed so that it wont cause issues with other devices. If you look carefully at the charger and/or usb cable you can see 9 contacts rather than 4. If you plug a standard usb cable in to the prime charger it will only make a connection with the 4 contacts not all 9.
Car adaptor can be made the same way so it will provide 5 volts on a standard cable using the 4 contacts and 11 volts when all 9 contacts are in use.

I use one i bought from radio shack, with changeable tips (outputs 12v/1a), in combination with an usb tip (extra attachment bought separately) , altogether about $20.
I plug the prime's usb charging cable straight into the usb attachment, and it's been working just fine.
Nobody else uses that charger but me, and it stays in my car, so i m not concerned about other people's phones getting burned out XD.

Ummm, Gary isn't going to respond buddy.
Not sure if anyone else is looking for a spare wall charger like I was or not, but I found one on eBay that looked the same as the OEM one, and I bought 2 of them so I could have one somewhere else at home, and also have one to carry with me when travelling. If anyone is interested, the seller was accesscables and the item I bought specifically is here. They arrived yesterday and both work for charging. They look like Chinese knock-offs as they have the same information printed on them as the original charger.
I've tested some of not original chargers, all they works fine.
There is 5V 2A output on original samsung charger, but to make charge it must have output from 0,85 to 2 Ampers (and 5 volts, of course).
This one from DX (sku: 48615 with european plug) works just fine, it has 5V 1A.
The ideal is 5V 2A - it make charge faster.
Would this charge fine on an iPhone charger, or a universal car charger?

Nice find. When I sold my first gtab I kept the charger just to charge my phone with. Glad I did. Didn't know they were $20.

Can I use the charger for Asus Transformer 101?
Hi all,
When I use the charger that came with the HTC One my phone charges great, rapid.
But when I use any other charger that I have in my home/office it charges very slow. Even with a 2.1 amp charger!
The charger that comes with the phone has an output of 1 amp.
I've tried multiple other chargers (1 amp and 2.1 amp) and they all trickle charge.
Anyone else noticing this?

I'm using old charges at home and in the office and it did seems slow but had not heard of rapid charge. Will the phone indicate this rapid charge mode? If not, is it real?
I'm getting slow charging even on the stock HTC charger. Not sure how I can enable this rapid charge cause 4+ hours from 0-1% to full is a bit ridiculous.

If anyone is coming from phones with smaller batteries, remember the larger the capacity the long it takes to charge.
I use the cable and charger from my Nexus 7 and it charges fast. Off my USB it is slow.
Real AC chargers have two pins shorted. You can hack a USB to micro USB cable and short the same two pins to enable AC charging with any adapter, wall, USB, or car. Should be pins 3+4, but don't hold me to that.

i've done exactly this, and damned if the One still refuses to draw more than ~500 ma off of anything but the 2.1 A wallwart it came with (i don't have any others to try with). i'm about to dig out an old inverter to see if that will actually work. wish i'd paid more attention to my EE dad when i lived at home; i've gotten a serious crash course in this stuff while trying to get my One to charge in my car, when it's on.
edit: so i got my old inverter out, and spent about 15 minutes testing. i used the 2.0A adapter that came with my Nexus 7 to test, as well as the 3.1A Mediabridge adapter i got here. my phone was at about 45% when i started testing. unplugged, Battery Monitor Widget reported a drain of anywhere between 500ma and 650ma (running Ingress, wifi on). plugged in to the Mediabridge adapter showed, at best, a drain of 50ma. the Nexus adapter plugged in to my inverter charged at a fairly consistent ~120ma. i didn't touch my phone the entire time.
i left my Nexus 7 at work so i can't use it to repeat the test, but i will do so tomorrow. the cable i'm using is this one. i'm not crazy about having a ridiculous DC-AC inverter in my car for my phone, but if that's what i have to do so it can be used and not drain, then so be it. admittedly, i don't really understand these things enough to explain these variations, but i plan on learning ASAP. perhaps somebody else can shed some light on why the device charges different, and how it identifies an AC-USB adapter vs a DC-USB adapter.

Math doesn't support what is happening though. Phone has a 2300mAh battery. The OEM charger outputs 1A (1000mAh)
At most, it should be around 3 hours for full charge, when in fact it is closer to 4-4.5 hours. It's the last 10% that is the issue, it will trickle charge to 100% rather than rapid charge.

Yes, I think that's exactly what the HTC does... I read a pretty good article recently about Li-Ion batteries that talks about how trickle charging is the best for battery life, and it wouldn't surprise me if HTC got a little aggressive the way the this phone charges since we can't swap the battery ourselves.
I'm trying one last car charger, which matches the wattage of my Nexus 7's 5Vdc/2A AC adapter (which I've had the best luck with, when charging the phone while in use): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009TBF7IG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If that doesn't work, I'm going to put a 300W inverter in my car with the AC adapters themselves and stop buying stinking DC adapters. This phone clearly pays very close attention to the wattage available from whatever it's plugged in to.
