[Q] razr on vmware. - Motorola Droid RAZR

Is it possible to emulate the razr (bootloader and all) using vmware? If so can anyone point me in the right direction to do this?
If it's not broke try harder.

Not using vmware.
Vmware is x86 virtualizer.
You would need ARM emulator such as QEMU or something along that.
Also, you would need several tweaks on the kernel and BL, multimedia stuff, etc.
I think there is a DROID RAZR emulator with the Android SDK.

OK thanks for the replies.
I think I will check out android SDK, motorola RAZR SDK.

You got one of only 2 options right now.
1. Find a PC somewhere and use that.
2. Install Windows via Bootcamp on the Mac.
Running any of these s-off tools is sketchy via a Virtual Machine like Parallels or Fusion. Those installs don't access the hardware right.
Better option - ubuntu live cd or install

Razr engineering sample : bootloader factory unlocked

Hello guys,
Here's another bootloader unlocked Razr and this is an engineering sample, prohibited of selling. The phone is actually a XT910 with XT912 digitizer panel as you see. I can buy this phone if any developer would make use of the software. Maybe this phone can help us to unlock our retail XT910 's f*ckin' bootloader.

correct me if i'm wrong, but, someone already have a bootloader with statue 1, and kholk told that it can't help to unlock bootloader because it's for engineering. he also explain something very complicated that i can't remember

you can take a look here, it happen before....but fail..
I have à question :
if you buy à razr engeneer version,
you can make à complaint to Motorola for selling prohibited product ?
in the case of a bug, in HW or SW, he can say to you, that phone is stolen because not for sale....
sorry, but I search solutions for enoying Motorola all the way.....
that is different device, this one is unique imo. and i am aware of that thread. if any dev believe that we can benefit from it, i am ready pay 500 dolar for it, my 2cents

No. The SE bootloader cannot be used on retail devices.

@Semseddin
I could try to port kexec on the RAZR to bypass the bootloader.. having an unlocked device would help because I can take some parameters that are not exported and hidden on regular devices. Kexec won't be an unlock solution, but a method for bypassing the signature checks loading a new kernel (and a new initrd, perhaps with 2ndinit so that we can boot from another partition) on the currently running one.
I'm not 100% sure of succeeding, but at least I can try.
If you want, I'm available as a developer.

I thought kexec wasn't ever finished because of driver issues or something like that?
It is actually used on a large amount of x86 Linux servers (and desktops) for booting another kernel without having to reboot the machine itself (for not losing time and discontinue a service for hours).
kexec for ARM hasn't got any issue, but natively it isn't a kernel module. The porting work will require me to make it to be a module and to be able to manage the OMAP4430 kexec'ing to be possible.

+1.
Good luck
Thanks for trusting me, guys.
Still waiting for a reply from Semseddin, though.. I'll update you soon!
awesome stuff kholk. I totally admire your dedication to this phone, even though Motorola are not playing nice with us. Thanks for all your efforts thus far in the RAZR dev scene.
Ok guys, i will go into negociation to buy this phone.
I appreciate that
any chance it will work on the droid 3/bionic since we all have the same processor?
If I succeed on the RAZR there's a possibility that it will be easily portable on devices that are sharing the same SoC.
May the force be with you!
The guys doesn't sell less then 600 usd... That's beyond my border for this phone.

[Q] does the x2 kernel support loop devices?

I am pretty much not enlightened in this matter, but I am wondering if we have a kernel that supports loop devices or not? More specifically I wanted to see if the ubuntu installer would work for the x2. I have tried and it, and its a no go, so this will have been a very short walk if our kernel doesn't support loop devices. (just as a note I am running eclipse 2.2 wit all mashed-up v2)
What is a loop device?

I have installed debian using a installer in the market...I can't remember the name so I know that part doesn't help you at all but I do know its possible...how big are you trying to make it?

bro, I'm thinking until the we find that magic pudding for the Droid X2, the kernel won't support a lot since Motorola has given us a pretty standard kernel and no unlock key where we can unlock our phones on our own. So, right now, the droid x2 is stuck with what the wonderful devs are/have cooked/cooking up for the red headed bastard phone.

Not quite sure but it is part of running linux on Android.
@trafalger888 - I think your right linux will work. I believe the loop device thing is not a problem...I've gotten past the stage in getting ubuntu up where that would be an issue. Maybe ill try debian. So I believe the kernel for 2.3.5 supports these loop devices.

Looking to root my Razr Maxx

Hello all. im semi-new to smartphones and have looked into rooting a bit and want to do it though from the "instructions" i have read so far have been confusing. If someone could help me with rooting i would greatly appreciate it since i dont want to risk "bricking" my phone
Get the android sdk and adb running and just follow each instruction exactly and you'll be fine.

dude, we can't help you out because you're in the wrong development device page, head to the Droid RAZAR HD (XT926) and you'll be better supported over there, ok?
