Hey guys, i got my atrix earlier this morning and have been trying to root and unlock the device. While unlocking the devices was easy thanks to this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
got got to the end of it and my atrix says unlocked when it boots up which is great but i can't seem to root the devices i have tried a lot of the thread here, i won't be able to fix the ram problem without root .Could anyone help me out?
As far as i know there is no direct rooting method for 2.3.6 yet, ideally you would have been better off rooting 2.3.4 and using OTA Rootkeeper and then updating to 2.3.6. Shouldn't be long before someone comes out with a root method for your version.
hmm so i'm stuck with this for now? i came from a rooted milestone so i don't really know but i can't flash any rom for now right?
After a little surfing the guys down in Brazil claim to be rooting their Atrix phones running 2.3.6 using the SuperOneClick method i'm not sure if you've tryed it yet but it's worth a shot.
SuperOneClick thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If you can't find a working SuperOneClick download link there's this one:
http://uploading.com/files/get/3mb694ea/
Edit: As for the installing of custom ROMs without root i'm not to sure about that sorry.
thanks a lot i'll try if it works
Edit: it seems that it is working you just made my day even better
edit 2: i got superuser installed but i can't seem to be able to delete/rename the install-recovery.sh as stated in the guide' i'll try to see what is wrong
edit 3: i am rooted and titanium back up works i'll take a break and figure out the rest later thanks again
Try using the root explorer in the ROM Toolbox app, supposedly some file explorers will not give you the proper access levels to delete or rename the files correctly. Read that in tayshun12's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
GREAT it workeD cwm is working now and the ram fix is there i suppose ( i got about 500mb free annd around 200mb used THANKS AGAIN
now i have to try to fix the wifi problem
You're quite welcome glad i could be of some help
This works for BELL 2.3.6
I've been trying to Root my Atrix MB860 w/2.3.6 updated from BELL for a month now. I can verify that it has just been Rooted using this method.
Thanks for the links, Blunts!

I understand that before the ICS update one should backup the root and then restore. But after lots of pain I have managed the ICS update and now unable to Root. The root methods mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341578 and here http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/1598-restore-root-after-installing-ics-leak/
WONT WORK.
And I am not going back on the way of how to try to restore.
Anyway wherein we can do a FRESH ROOT on a ICS Razr.
Please read our forum rules before opening a new thread.

Have you tried adamoutler's way,?

I had the same problem
I got ICS to work and thought I had also backed up root but found I have not. This worked when followed.

if you could read my post..i've already tried that many times.
Had to SBF 2.3.5, phone became obscenely buggy all of a sudden.
I used One Click to root, Super User is saying the su binary is outdated.
One of the stickies in the dev section says (2.3.5 only) zergRush under "Rooting", tried that, but have the same binary issue.
I am certain I am missing something glaringly obvious, but I don't play with my phone as much so I'm pretty rusty...
only two ways to get 2.3.5 system version 1.3.418 rooted
magic md5 root
or sbf to 2.3.4, root with pete's (not zerg), use voodoo ota root keeper ( run, back up su, temp unroot), install ota update 1.3.418, restore root with voodoo
see how to root 2.3.5/1.3.418
there are two leaked 2.3.5 versions 1.3.412 and 1.3.413, 412 can be rooted with zergzush
but these two leaks are no longer compatible with eclipse rom, if you plan on that
or rather not compatible with current version of eclipse

use superuser's built in updater, to update binary
superuser's default is to notify if a newer version is available
tap on left tab 'info', tap to check for updates (middle of screen)
or uncheck notify if binary is outdated, don't really need update
Thank you sir, worked perfectly!!

Hello. I may be repeating some other threads, but I could not find the answer. Is there a one click or other method to root a CDMA Motorola Droid Razr after update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2? The phone has never been rooted before.
Thanks guys!
+1 I'd like to know too, just in case. My phone is rooted I just want to know if I botch the install I can still get root.

Not yet.
I hope they find a root method soon. I bricked mine on the leak, and had to reinstall it, losing root in the process. You never realize how great root is until its gone lol.

Yeah, I lost root access when I did a manual flash update via the SD card and the leaked image...and the root method mentioned on androidgadgetmatic (I would post link but im a new member) is not working in any way...If there is any help anywhere that would be awesome....I kinda need root to live...

Lol, I feel the same way. Don't worry, I'm sure one of the awesome devs on this side will figure something out. They usually do, lol.

There is a fix for those who were rooted and lost root during the update....
It is in this thread somewhere (sorry I don't have time to find it) You had to heve Voodoo OTA rootkeeper to start out with for the utility to work.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...original-verizon-droid-razr-how-to-keep-root/
I'll keep browsing through what is or isn't compatible. Perhaps one of our amazing Dev's is already on this. Can't imagine it will be long
sicne you cant flash back to ics no, i voodoo'ed before i came over to JB and when when i checked root on JB with rootchecker from the app store it said it wasn't rooted, but titanium back up and other rooted apps said that the device was rooted properly. i ment to test it some more and make sure i was really rooted

If you backed up root with voodoo and went to jb then use matt's root fixer to get root working properly again

I am in need of the same answer. Thanks for asking it.
If you were not rooted before updating to JB then there is no way (yet) to root JB.
I have to ask... Why would someone who was not rooted suddenly decide they needed root after updating? I can understand if you lost root due to being one of the ones that did get the OTA but why all of a sudden decide you need root.
Thread moved. Please post all questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks

I am in the same boat as the OP so I will provide my reasoning for wanting root now.
This new stock JB load now forces a check against your verizon account when you attempt to turn on any form of tethering. This includes the builtin wireless hotspot AND unfortunately FoxFi wifi/bluetooth. So as of right now I went from an excellent mobile internet connection to share with my Asus TF700 tablet to now having no internet sharing capability.
Grrrrrrrrr......
I followed the thread's instructions above by using voodoo rootkeeper. (droidrzr - Matt's post: New JB update how to keep root)
When you are following Matt's instructions, DO NOT FORGET to update SU binaries. Do this before you protect root, then use voodoo to protect root, temp unroot. Then Protect root, then temp unroot AGAIN. Finally, PROTECT ROOT before you actually flash the update.
Worked for me like a charm. Now im trying to make a JB-leak rom

Unfortunately I got the true ota and thought it was an ICS update. So I didn't see the thread about the binaries so lost root and pulling my hair out till new root method comes out or I save enough for an S3 which ever comes first

same happened to me. Heard some of the devs are working though
Don't expect a quick solution for this from djrbliss...it is not likely to be coming soon.
Nobody else of his caliber is working on root exploits for Motorola devices unfortunately, and very few people understand the value and uniqueness of his contribution to the Motorola community.
He has rooted every Motorola device since the D3 and everyone who has used a rooted Motorola owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Just sayin'...
I too lost root after my Jelly Bean update. Unless there is a better thread to keep my eye on, I'll keep my eye on this one for a rooting method for my RAZR XT912. If I hear of anything somewhere else, I'll come back here and let people know. I hope others will do the same.

First i would like to say i don't have this phone. But i was wondering if a sbf file could be put together like the one that is used to downgrade the D3. I don't know if this could be done from JB>ICS or not but i thought it might be worth a look. Droid 3 downgrade sbf
Looking for a ROM with root that is based on the latest T-Mobile OTA and has the camera patch included.
I'm curious about this as well. From what I've heard, an updated ROM usually come out within a couple of days of the update. Correct me if I'm wrong... is that usually the case for OTA updates for root users, too?
I'd prefer being able to update without needing to restore the original recovery, if possible.

look on my signature, I made a full stock Odex rom without root, and it also updated from htc the camera patch, then just add mike1986 superuser and busybox..
I ran it for 2 days and last night I just added superuser and busybox separately.. was testing this out, and working perfectly...

yeh, for some reason dsixda's kitchen gives me problems with creating roms, its the updater script, I made this rom not rooted and still using without root, my phone has no problem, when i installed the rom, went to update software and found a new update for camera HDR.. it updated perfectly. i just installed busybox.apk and superuser from chainfire v1.45 that i had on my phone. working flawlessly.
so this rom is for anyone that doesnt want root yet (plain stock), all u have to do for root, is just flash SUPER USER and install BusyBox 9.6 manually from the play store.. great battery life since this morning, just sitting in my pocket and listening to music, cant use cell phones in work, when the supervisor leaves i listen to music. leaving work now, will play with the kitchen more to fix this updater script.
forces me to use someone elses updater script, I just have to change some settings. had the same problem with the HTC One V, i used the updater script of my HTC One S which worked perfect,
the Galaxy S3, lucky for me dsixda responded to the thread in there, I told him the errors and he fixed it and worked fine for me.
The Note 2 I rooted and made 4.1.1 with the modem and 4.1.2 with the modem, for unlocking the sim, made 4.1.1 cause they figured out what we were doing. (SAMSUNG) made 4.1.2 and took out the codes so we couldn't unlock the sims. had to keep looking for the original firmware, found them both. I still have the not rooted, and rooted, and rooted with modem. but didnt put the host them all, just rooted with modem to unlock the sim...
