Looking for a ROM with root that is based on the latest T-Mobile OTA and has the camera patch included.
I'm curious about this as well. From what I've heard, an updated ROM usually come out within a couple of days of the update. Correct me if I'm wrong... is that usually the case for OTA updates for root users, too?
I'd prefer being able to update without needing to restore the original recovery, if possible.

look on my signature, I made a full stock Odex rom without root, and it also updated from htc the camera patch, then just add mike1986 superuser and busybox..
I ran it for 2 days and last night I just added superuser and busybox separately.. was testing this out, and working perfectly...

yeh, for some reason dsixda's kitchen gives me problems with creating roms, its the updater script, I made this rom not rooted and still using without root, my phone has no problem, when i installed the rom, went to update software and found a new update for camera HDR.. it updated perfectly. i just installed busybox.apk and superuser from chainfire v1.45 that i had on my phone. working flawlessly.
so this rom is for anyone that doesnt want root yet (plain stock), all u have to do for root, is just flash SUPER USER and install BusyBox 9.6 manually from the play store.. great battery life since this morning, just sitting in my pocket and listening to music, cant use cell phones in work, when the supervisor leaves i listen to music. leaving work now, will play with the kitchen more to fix this updater script.
forces me to use someone elses updater script, I just have to change some settings. had the same problem with the HTC One V, i used the updater script of my HTC One S which worked perfect,
the Galaxy S3, lucky for me dsixda responded to the thread in there, I told him the errors and he fixed it and worked fine for me.
The Note 2 I rooted and made 4.1.1 with the modem and 4.1.2 with the modem, for unlocking the sim, made 4.1.1 cause they figured out what we were doing. (SAMSUNG) made 4.1.2 and took out the codes so we couldn't unlock the sims. had to keep looking for the original firmware, found them both. I still have the not rooted, and rooted, and rooted with modem. but didnt put the host them all, just rooted with modem to unlock the sim...

I rooted my T-Bolt using the Mac method described on Android Central Forums. I've been running the stock ROM and Kernel. I'm only going to do one custom install of a ROM and Kernel. I really hate having to keep up with the latest and greatest. Having to wipe every time and re-install everything.
I'd like recommendations on what ROM and Kernel to install and how to do it. I am tech savvy but have not been keeping up with what's going on in the Android rooting world. I am starting a new career next week and would like to get my T-Bolt set up now and forget about it.
I originally rooted my D1 so I could wireless tether but service was horrible. If I can still take advantage of wireless tether without any repercussions from VZW I'll stay rooted and do that. The only benefit I'm getting right now being rooted is Set CPU to help with my battery life.
So, I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me on this.
Thanks!

Do not OTA over root! It is all over the forums and will mess up your phone if you do that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13606062&postcount=2557
To install the update while rooted, follow that link. He also installing BAMF remix 1.6.3 which is the ROM that I am running. It is also my first ROM, and I picked it because it is a stable ROM, and I have yet to get a reboot after 4 days of using it.
The guys in that forum are really good about answering questions, but most of my noob questions were answered already. Don't forget that you can search inside a thread--that one is over 300 pages long.
Sorry, I forgot the Kernal: I am using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021404 It is also really stable and also sports a really good battery life, while keeping the phone snappy. Amazing work!
Do you have Titanium Backup and ROM manager? I believe that ROM manager also install ClockWork Mod Recovery, which you are going to need.
I would get the paid version of Titanium, and do a batch backup of your apps and system data so you don't lose all of your app data when you install the new radio and ROM.

If you're rooted you don't need the OTA....If you want a rooted version of it use Generation X stock rom that's in the dev section....But if you want a rooted version of the sd update i have one here

The 1st one is a rooted one and the second is nonroot and will unroot the phone. And the 1st link is based off the OTA of the 2nd link. It should have mail in it-I had the mail widget setup before, I had it when I tested the ROM the other day, perhaps wipe everything again and flash the rom again. If you check the zip file it contains everything, nothing was removed from the build, except myaccount since it was an older version anyway.

Ace42, thanks a lot. This rooted version of the OTA update is very different than the one I installed previously based on Football's release. Running perfectly, thanks! I was running Virtuous Unity, but the latest release had massive battery, wifi and 4G data issues. So far, so good on the rooted-stock version in your link. Again, thanks!
For anyone that can actually download the latest version of Wallet app (I'm on T-mobile and read about walk-around and it installs but fails to do otherwise)...
Could you kindly upload the latest Wallet.apk?
Thank you!

get the f*** off my obstacle course!
You mean this one?
latest version identifies unsupported device. so you might wanna think twice before doing that.
Yep.. I get insufficient privileges. This method used to work until previous version if I flash the CM9 NFC lib then copy Wallet.apk to system/app, but obviously since prepaid card no longer works, I wanted to try if the new version of Wallet.apk would work.
So I guess there's no fix unless I totally go back to pure stock or someone else comes up with the mod?
I have Nexus S on custom 4.0.4 ROM, rooted and bootloader unlocked.

Pure stock might be an issue too. I'm getting an update popup on my wallet app, and when I attempted to use it yesterday, it didn't work. I haven't tried again, but there may be an issue there too, just a head's up.

pretty interesting ... so next will be: 2.19.605.2 710RD ... which is of course newer than our previous 2.17.605.2, but it doesn't give much hope for the expected JB release (3.16.605.1)
main changes (as per changelog dec-2013): ISIS support, Software Update and Software Repair Tools are now compatible (?? whatever that means!!), reduced power cycling, improved bluetooth clarity and ... security patches added
that's about it. will be interesting if ANY new custom roms are going to be based on the new release (a new Viper? ) ... but i suppose we still won't get any newer kernel, any JB love and/or updated Sense(4.5) ... as nothing of that is listed in the update announcement
EDIT: checked http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/system_update/droidincredible4glte.html for "benefits" (which is already updated to 2.19.605.2) and "instructions" for a hint on the size of the (this time for _real_ new OTA 2013/2014!) ... but as instructions are still based on our prev 2.17.605.2 update with its 155mb size, there isn't _any_ info yet on the size of the upcoming OTA. ........... and it seems that it was just less than 24hrs ago, when the news about the 2.19.605.2 update started to make its round in the net (and on the verizon page).
I run Viper rom and it keeps downloading and trying to install. Is there anyway to stop OTA from happening?
The viper OTA (about the faked illegal rom) has nothing to do with this
This info above is finally some news about an official OTA from Verizon! (albeit not the bigger JB update we are all still waiting for, but rather only a smaller Bugfix for our current ICS)
update size
according to my phone, the update is only 43.8MB.
I have now lost faith in seeing any real updates for this phone. I am ready to root and try a new ROM. What I'd like to know is if this update will break any of the methods for rooting this phone.
I know this phone isn't much, but for HTC to totally forget it like they have is rotten. I guess I'll have to follow the bandwagon to Samsung or Motorola.

it's HIGHLY LIKELY that ANY previous rooting method will not be working any more AFTER you agree to the new OTA.
@DanPFW: as for HTC, they had prepared a JB update and send it to Verizon ... it's just that Verizon didn't approve it (for some unknown to us reason!!!) ... even the release-number is known, just the actual ROM has not surfaced (yet?!) to the community.
as for rooting and a new custom-ROM ... it's a great and fun device and fairly easy to root & unlock. just that the fully working custom-roms _with_ HTC Sense are ALL only ICS4.0.4 with Sense4.1. Overclocking is easy and stable and a sweet kernel (from user: jose) is available. the newer JB-based custom-roms with Sense5 or Sense4.5 are all ported from different devices and are only partially working, as camera and bluetooth are _completely broken_ due to non-existing (Sense-kernel) drivers for JB. most ppl here are running either ViperLTE2.2.0 (best ICS with Sense4.1 imho) or some AOSP-based custom roms like CM, PacMan, Avatar etc, which are upto at least JB4.3.1 available and nicely working)
EDIT: I hope someone can capture this new OTA for 2.19.605.2 and provide the file here on xda ... for further "analysis"

thanks for the upload ... i just checked its content, but as it's mainly patchfiles (which i dun know how to apply manually to see what's changed) i can only confirm a couple of things for now:
* according to the updater script, it's still ICS4.0.4 ... but now "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/278117.2" (prev was: "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/111397.2")
* the actual patch-content size is only 15MB!
* whole new firmware package (32MB) ... incl a slightly newer radio: 1.53.06.1009 (was: 1.53.06.0919)
waiting for some more details about the actual OTA changes from others for now :fingers-crossed:

yeah and additionally one needs the (previous) 2.17.605.2 installed ... and unmodified stock-rom to apply the patches (or is there a "offline" way, like on linux or so to apply them safely w/o needing to run it on a Dinc4G). but plz correct me if i'm wrong ^^
we just shouldn't execute/load the whole firmware.zip at once as it is (right now) ... as it might re-lock the bootloader and/or in the worst case even bricks _currently_ rooted/unlocked Dinc4Gs ... that's why I said, let's wait for "the specialists" to decompose the OTA and tell the "common ppl" what can be safely applied and what better shouldn't

I'm pretty certain it will mess up the ROM if you run the OTA. Viper 2.2 lets you turn off the check/reminder.

you probably wont be able to install it anyway. im pretty sure it needs a stock recovery to install it. if youre running viper youre more than likely running custom recovery.
Correct... I didn't think ota updates would actually install on phones running custom rom / recoveries

I decided to just take this as an opportunity to finally upgrade to Viper 2.2.0. I wasn't looking forward to the full ROM install and the PITA that goes with it. Hooray for Nandroid backups and TiB!
If anyone else it thinking of doing the same, make sure you're using TWRP recovery. (Full Nandroid and full TiB backup first before doing anything!). The Aroma installer appeared to work when installing with a CWM-based recovery, but the phone hung up good upon reboot. I looked at the nice white HTC screen for quite a while
Hey all,
I got the ATT one M8 from the US. its has some nonworking features (like tethering\hotspot). I really need that option and I understand that flashing the Viper ROM will help.
However - my work requires my phone not to be rooted to get emails.
Is it possible to unroot viper ROM after I install it (meaning keeping the viper ROM installed but unrooting it)?
thank you in advance
Could try [email protected] xposed module not sure itll work but worth a shot

I saw on a thread a couple weeks back about a flashable zip that unlocks wifi tethering. Im sure a simple search will dig that thread back up for you. it seemed pretty simple to do.
I flashed a RUU on mine that installed factory att software (bloated of course) but wifi tethering worked on it.
I think i got it from Mr. hoffs

Tethering will work on a stock device (or device which official RUU was installed) if your AT&T account permits tethering. But its a network based verification. So if you try to use the stock AT&T ROM on another carrier (which is sounds like the OP is doing) it breaks the WiFi tethering feature (unless you mod the phone).
The OP is in kind of a Catch 22, where root is needed for tethering, but his work doesn't permit root. So it seems WNC's suggestion (if it works) is the best bet.
Couldn't he just unlock bootloader and boot TWRP without flashing custom recovery or rooting device and run flashable zip?

Most custom ROMs are pre-rooted.
Thank you all for the replies.
I have given up on trying to find a stock ROM and just flashed the Viper.
Cant get work emails now - will try the root cloak .
and thanks again for AT&T for being so square as to not let people from other countries and carriers use their own phones features!
