pretty interesting ... so next will be: 2.19.605.2 710RD ... which is of course newer than our previous 2.17.605.2, but it doesn't give much hope for the expected JB release (3.16.605.1)
main changes (as per changelog dec-2013): ISIS support, Software Update and Software Repair Tools are now compatible (?? whatever that means!!), reduced power cycling, improved bluetooth clarity and ... security patches added
that's about it. will be interesting if ANY new custom roms are going to be based on the new release (a new Viper? ) ... but i suppose we still won't get any newer kernel, any JB love and/or updated Sense(4.5) ... as nothing of that is listed in the update announcement
EDIT: checked http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/system_update/droidincredible4glte.html for "benefits" (which is already updated to 2.19.605.2) and "instructions" for a hint on the size of the (this time for _real_ new OTA 2013/2014!) ... but as instructions are still based on our prev 2.17.605.2 update with its 155mb size, there isn't _any_ info yet on the size of the upcoming OTA. ........... and it seems that it was just less than 24hrs ago, when the news about the 2.19.605.2 update started to make its round in the net (and on the verizon page).
I run Viper rom and it keeps downloading and trying to install. Is there anyway to stop OTA from happening?
The viper OTA (about the faked illegal rom) has nothing to do with this
This info above is finally some news about an official OTA from Verizon! (albeit not the bigger JB update we are all still waiting for, but rather only a smaller Bugfix for our current ICS)
update size
according to my phone, the update is only 43.8MB.
I have now lost faith in seeing any real updates for this phone. I am ready to root and try a new ROM. What I'd like to know is if this update will break any of the methods for rooting this phone.
I know this phone isn't much, but for HTC to totally forget it like they have is rotten. I guess I'll have to follow the bandwagon to Samsung or Motorola.

it's HIGHLY LIKELY that ANY previous rooting method will not be working any more AFTER you agree to the new OTA.
@DanPFW: as for HTC, they had prepared a JB update and send it to Verizon ... it's just that Verizon didn't approve it (for some unknown to us reason!!!) ... even the release-number is known, just the actual ROM has not surfaced (yet?!) to the community.
as for rooting and a new custom-ROM ... it's a great and fun device and fairly easy to root & unlock. just that the fully working custom-roms _with_ HTC Sense are ALL only ICS4.0.4 with Sense4.1. Overclocking is easy and stable and a sweet kernel (from user: jose) is available. the newer JB-based custom-roms with Sense5 or Sense4.5 are all ported from different devices and are only partially working, as camera and bluetooth are _completely broken_ due to non-existing (Sense-kernel) drivers for JB. most ppl here are running either ViperLTE2.2.0 (best ICS with Sense4.1 imho) or some AOSP-based custom roms like CM, PacMan, Avatar etc, which are upto at least JB4.3.1 available and nicely working)
EDIT: I hope someone can capture this new OTA for 2.19.605.2 and provide the file here on xda ... for further "analysis"

thanks for the upload ... i just checked its content, but as it's mainly patchfiles (which i dun know how to apply manually to see what's changed) i can only confirm a couple of things for now:
* according to the updater script, it's still ICS4.0.4 ... but now "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/278117.2" (prev was: "fireball:4.0.4/IMM76D/111397.2")
* the actual patch-content size is only 15MB!
* whole new firmware package (32MB) ... incl a slightly newer radio: 1.53.06.1009 (was: 1.53.06.0919)
waiting for some more details about the actual OTA changes from others for now :fingers-crossed:

yeah and additionally one needs the (previous) 2.17.605.2 installed ... and unmodified stock-rom to apply the patches (or is there a "offline" way, like on linux or so to apply them safely w/o needing to run it on a Dinc4G). but plz correct me if i'm wrong ^^
we just shouldn't execute/load the whole firmware.zip at once as it is (right now) ... as it might re-lock the bootloader and/or in the worst case even bricks _currently_ rooted/unlocked Dinc4Gs ... that's why I said, let's wait for "the specialists" to decompose the OTA and tell the "common ppl" what can be safely applied and what better shouldn't

I'm not that stupid. I run the Viper run and keep getting the download for the Verzion OTA. I thought the Viper rom was suppose to stop Vertizon OTA's, but I guess it hasn't. I just deferred it for now. Wait to see what happens with it, and if its worth while.

I'm pretty certain it will mess up the ROM if you run the OTA. Viper 2.2 lets you turn off the check/reminder.

you probably wont be able to install it anyway. im pretty sure it needs a stock recovery to install it. if youre running viper youre more than likely running custom recovery.
Correct... I didn't think ota updates would actually install on phones running custom rom / recoveries

I decided to just take this as an opportunity to finally upgrade to Viper 2.2.0. I wasn't looking forward to the full ROM install and the PITA that goes with it. Hooray for Nandroid backups and TiB!
If anyone else it thinking of doing the same, make sure you're using TWRP recovery. (Full Nandroid and full TiB backup first before doing anything!). The Aroma installer appeared to work when installing with a CWM-based recovery, but the phone hung up good upon reboot. I looked at the nice white HTC screen for quite a while

Hey Guys, just finished playing around with the kitchen and made a simple modification to the default espresso ROM. Unlike other Roms, this ROM does not have a lots of kernel level modifications, and lots of changes. But this ROM is just the default Rom that came with your shipped myTouch 3G Slide, except that this ROM does not have all the bloat-ware that make your phone slow and laggy. The followings features are included:
Features
======
Espresso UI
Busy-box
Rooted
SuperUser
NANO Editor
Deodexed APK Files
100% Stable (Think of it as your default rom)
Nothing that does not work.
Flash player
Cool Boot animation (Who likes that crappy tmobile boot animation? )
Eclair (2.1) [Tried Everything To Use Froyo And Make It Stable, No Luck, But I Don't Think There Is A Lots Of Stuffs Missing In Eclair)
Some Other Stuff
Removed Stuff
==========
All Crapware
HTC PDF Reader (Use Adobe Reader From Market)
HTC Twitter Client
Stocks
Stocks Widget
Tmobile Visual Voicemail (Get It From Market If Needed)
Tmobile My Account (Same as above)
Amazon MP3
AppPack Tmobile
All other crapware that makes your phone laggy.
As far as i know, there is nothing that doesn't work (Played it with for few days to see if something is wrong). Proximity sensor, wifi, bluetooth, keyboard, all the keys, touch screen, and almost everything works perfectly. Please let me know if something doesnt work.
How to install
=========
First root your phone using this method or this method.
Then put the zip file in your sd card and go to clockwork recovery. Then just install the zip file as you would do with every other rom.
If you dont get what i am saying, check this.
Please let me know if something does not work. THanks
[I am not an android developer, just a simple guy [and a bit of java programmer] ]
I dont think Tmobile is going to give us Froyo within this Dec 15th as rumored by a lots of sites. But for now, lets stay happy with eclair and lets hope they will send the updates soon.
Download ROM
GUYS, PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD OR LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT THIS ROM BECAUSE THIS WASNT MEANT TO BE A ROM THAT EVERYONE SHOULD USE, I MADE IT FOR MY OWN PERSONAL USE AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE HERE SO THAT AT LEAST SOMEONE MIGHT BE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS. MODS --> IF YOU THINK THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE OR SHOULD NOT BE HERE, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE THIS THREAD IN THRASH FORUM (DELETED)

THIS is an OTA rom.
OTA brought the retail system (1.27.531) to 1.35.531 and updated the radio as well. If you're linking me to the correct Espresso zip that you used, you've based you rom on outdated system software.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Has someone flashed this that can check their About this Phone section of settings to see which system version this is?

That is the latest we can use, because the latest ota does not allow flashing unsigned packages, so even clockworkmod wont work there. but you can always install the rom first and install the update.zip for the new ota (that is if you find one) . good luck

Fast and functional. I'm thankful for a new rom to use. Outdated is not an issue. I still load donut on people's G1's when they want stable root. Either way thanks for contributing....I could live without the negative comments.

Pointing out that the starting-point of this rom is outdated and potentially buggy is hardly a negative comment. It's a statement of fact that isn't mentioned anywhere in the first post. People should be aware of what they are flashing.
Improvements included with this update are as follows:
1. Battery Life:
Updates to the T-Mobile online contact backup connection, which will improve battery life.
2. Wi-Fi:
Ability to send MMS messages when connected to Wi-Fi.
3. Genius Button improvements:
Ability to turn GPS on and off using your voice, such as “Turn GPS on.”
Will announce Caller ID for incoming voice calls and allow you to “Answer” or “Ignore” using your voice.
Will announce incoming text messages and allow you to “reply” with dictation.
4. Faves Gallery improvements:
The Faves icon will be displayed beside notifications that appear while the device is locked to indicate that the communication is coming from one of your Faves.
Fave photo display speed will be enhanced.
General stability will be improved, including more seamless scrolling and consistent display of photos

I'm going to generalize, so this concepts aren't always 100% true but the majority of times they'll be correct. Generally, from HTC they release two types of OTA updates. 1) Only minor software updates. 2) Update both the kernel, android system, custom recovery, radio (sometimes bootloader and pri).
When the OTA updates are of the 1st situation, they are very minor and usually don't have *significant* impact on any part of the device. Essentially only patch bugs or glitches in HTC's bundled Sense/3rd party apps.
When the 2nd situation for OTA occurs, these updates are usually larger and more important. The impact on the device can be much larger as both the kernel and the system are being updated together.
In the 2nd situation, most of the time you'll want to make sure the kernel being loaded matches the version of system software being loaded. Sometimes they are backward/inter compatiable and sometimes they are not. Best practice is to keep the kernel/system software in sync.
In addition, for the 2nd situation, if a new kernel is released, HTC has *roughly* 30 days (not a hard number) to release the source code for the updated kernel. Until the kernel source is released, it will be very hard for developers to release customized versions of the new kernel.
Hope that helps!
joey,
thanks you've helped me so much going back to my Moment days. so to sum it all up, if I want a Rom with the updated 217, ,i need to go through the process of updating then unlock again or whatever?

I know what you're thinking "We already have root, why do we want and/or need this?". Well, if you followed the root thread, you would have seen that the package posted was built off of two images. There was the early firmware posting that it was first made from, then a system pull in a rar archive that was used to put the root package on the latest firmware. In the processes, there were issues with permissions and other items missing. The people involved did a great job with what they had, but I don't like hacked up solutions to problems.
So, to fix that, I had a stock system.img for the release firmware. This allowed me to build a fully stock root package with no missing files or incorrect permissions. While it took some time to get this tested and verified working without having the device, I was able to get it. Thanks goes to Adrynalyne, Mibix, and AstainHellBring (and anyone else) from IRC for testing several packages (Freenode, #galaxy-note-2). This is only the start of things to come, and I plan on slowly working on a ROM based on this then. I also made a deodexed version of the same package. Download and flash that if you wish, but it was more to verify that nothing broke in the deodexing process and to get a working base for a custom ROM.

Download one of the above packages for flashing.
Extract the file (7zip works to extract).
Open Odin (download that elsewhere), and put the extracted tar.md5 in the PDA spot
(Re)Boot your phone into download mode and plug it in to your computer
With it recognized in Odin, press start
Once the phone boots up, all should be well. If you notice issues, boot into recovery and wipe data and this should fix the problems.
If you still have issues after wiping the /data and performing a factory reset, please post here.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any ill effects caused to you, your loved ones, you phone, or anything else as a result of flashing this. Do so at your own risk as I won't be held responsible.
Saving this one too, just in case.
I'm nuts about imnuts! Its great to have you here! Can't wait for one of your ROMs.

Same "version" as the last one created by Mr Robinson, just that it was built off of a system.img of the shipping firmware that preserved all permissions on the files. Functionally, this should be basically the same as what was done earlier, just put together in a less hacked up manner.

Oh I wasn't sure if it litened it up or sped it up in any way. Would u see any reason to flash this over or in place of the first one I have now? All seems to be working fine.
What happens to all the mods that we have used on our phone, e.g. replacing files. I have changed my status bar and changed it so I can use MW with all apps.

If you already have root and/or have done other changes to /system, then there isn't a need to flash this. It is meant more for people that haven't yet rooted. If you have only done root, this shouldn't change anything for you. If you have rooted and made other changes (deleting apps/etc.), then it will undo those changes, and possibly force you to factory reset. Nothing has been deleted from either package, just root and busybox being added.
Deodexed v. stock is mainly for ease of modification. After the first boot, there is no speed difference in the two, though you may save a little bit of storage on the stock version. Functionally, they are identical, just that if one was looking to theme or make other changes, it is easier to do on the Deodexed version. I plan on starting a ROM then, maybe with the help of a few people, and this will start with the deodexed version and will get its own thread if it comes.
Just to answer any future questions, if you're already rooted, you don't need this. It was created as a better starting point for anyone that has not yet rooted their phone.
Thanks for clearing that up imnuts. So seriously though, no performance differences between the two? I find that weird if the permissions are all messed up in the original. I'm planning to root my sister's phone tonight, and it wouldn't be hard for me to do mine again tonight either if there is some reason for it, from the sounds of it, there isn't
Looking forward to your future stuff, +1 anyways.
I may have to try both and see which is is best for future efforts.

If/when I get enough money, yes. For the moment, I have a few people I know that are testing things for me.

Just curious how much money do you already have for the Note 2? I don't know much about you, but I already donated to Adam & Beans, I don't see why we can't help you get the phone as well. I'm willing to donate if we can get a thread together. It only helps the community..

I don't know if there are permissions issues with what was out, but given how it was made, it could be possible that one or two of the items with special permissions was missed, and without hitting a specific usage scenario, you'd never know. I think that given what MrRobinson was working with, he did a great job :good: I haven't actually compared what I have with what was previously out other than to verify that all files were present, I wasn't looking at permissions.
As for what's best for future efforts, it's going to be easier to theme and mod the deodexed version.
I do plan on building a ROM then starting next week, but progress will be slow (this alone took a week to get everything sorted properly).

there is no issues with mrRobinson's root image...that article is misleading. The very first image had issues but was quickly revised and fully functional!
As I can see some regions have already got 1.18.701 or something like that OTA update. So people just tell me which one cause I still have 1.18.401.
It's not JB right?

No, just improvements to ICS. I'm just curious how far it went, hoping to find out when I could get one.

Just checked and got notification. Its the same old:
This update contains important enhancements and bug fixes, including:
- System performance and stability
- System security improvement
- Camera features enhancement
I wonder why they have to update camera features each time. I bet its more about first two.
Will report if i find anything new.
For now as far as I know India, New Zealand and Great Britain got it. I'm still waiting here at Serbia.

One more question for all of you, as I know on some other htc devices OTA files are stored on SD card, what about our device? After the last update I found nothing?
This is based on my experience, system enhancement update, there will be OTA.zip on sdcard which we can save somewhere else before we install the update (OTA.zip get deleted after we installed). When there is application update, no OTA.zip as it will be a normal apk download. (still we can save it somewhere else by copying it's from data/app)
I played with my friend's Evo 3D and he has a complete ICS Sense 3.6 update on sd card (300+MB). As I said I found nothing on mine.

I can't confirm about the big update from 1.14 to 1.18 because the DX my friend lent me to play around already updated when he gave me, only manage to save the OTA.zip when there was update from 1.18.707.1 to 1.18.707.3 (small update of 19 mb)
Eh.. this is funny. I already got the 1.18.707.3 updates since Jan 05.

I have disabled the auto check, and just did manual check and the update about 19.1MB was found and downloaded.
But, there was an error when it got into recovery to install the update. First it showed error that update file was not found on SD card. But as I have installed CWM6 revocery, I went into the SD/download folder and found the OTA zip there. I applied it, and it gave signature verification error, after disabling that now I get "assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid")..." (Status 7).
And install is aborted.
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted my DX, and using CWM6 recovery posted in dev section.
Can anyone tell me how I can get this OTA get installed on my DX?
UPDATE: I found that CWM6 recovery I have was making the OTA fail. I downloaded recovery on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35031493&postcount=25 and tried the update again. I worked perfectly once I flashed the stock recovery.
Thanks,

So we're looking at around June/July I'd imagine for that. It will take until Feb easily to test One S in Singapore etc, then roll out across world, say end of March (being optimistic) then start Desire X.... Will take forever. I get the feeling we'll get the same crap as the old desire: here's a bloated dev rom we knocked together, install at your own risk, there's no space for apps etc. I got another HTC with a lot of reluctance tbh (budget decided it) and expect their usual level of contempt for updates / customer concerns.
Hi,
I'm very sorry if the problem was in other topic, but I looked first 10-12 pages of topics and couldn't find anything. My wive's Motorola RAZR MAXX (european, retail,non-carrier) is still on ICS, newest software availible, but from time to time get massive battery drain from process called Multimedia. Fully charged phone can run out of battery in few hours, get hot like from the furnace and finally turn off out of "juice". We are aware of the problem, that this single process is draining the battery, since we've looked at battery manager and this process is beeing constantly restarting, causing 100% CPU usage and draining battery. Forced-close helps, but this process manage to restart in background and it's stupid to constantly closing it in task manager every time after finishing some tasks that trigger him to start again. So, are there any temporary solutions for this? Is Motorola aware of the problem and will fix this in upcoming JB update? And finally, when EU versions of RAZR/MAXX get official JB update?
Regards, Jacek

I'm really aprreciate the help, but this firmware seems to be a leak, not the official one, so I won't risk bricking phone (wife's), especially, we've got iMac, so no windows program work on it (I presume it's needed for forced flashing via recovery) and I've never done any rooting/flashing myself. I'll have to wait for official update via OTA.
But you've mentioned, that you're familiar with the problem - was it fixed with the JB update in your case?

This may not come.
Only few ROM are updated via OTA: Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU.
And I think your ROM version is not one of them :/
You need to change ICS to one of upper ROM, and then you can take JB update.

Now wife has rom 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU - why do You think this Rom won't be updated any time soon? I bought this phone from normal store, it has motorola warranty (non-carrier, it's not imported from foreign country), I live in Poland. If you're right how can I make the update SAFELY on on iMac? Is it possible? The problem is getting stronger everyday - process activating himself randomly and sometimes it's too late to switch it off before it do some damage to battery. It's bloody anoying!
I'm sure that ROM 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU won't be updated to JB - This device will remain on Android 4.0.4 (ICS)
You can confirm that at Motorola website (Select Poland and Retail, then Motorola Razr phone):
https://motorola-global-en-roe.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1995
You need to change ICS to one of updated ROM(Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU), and then you can take JB update.

I think it's not enough.
As I know you must root your ICS, install Safestrap, install new ICS(one of Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU), root new ICS, install voodoo ota root keeper and buckup root, install JB update, I think this would look something like this.

Why rooting? Does just installing retail version of ICS and then doing OTA update to JB won't work?

I don't think you can just install other version of ICS without rooting.
Well, it’s looks like I’m ****ed up #$% I can’t update without rooting, I can’t root and update because there is no Mac tools for doing this, Motorola won’t plan to update RAZR/MAXX in my third world country to JB (get confirmation from support), and even if I’ll ask someone to make an update for me (if I found someone from near my location who know how to do this without bricking the phone) I still loose warranty because rooting void warranty. If I know all of this earlier I wold have never buy moto phone. Support guy told me that the only thing I can do is to make a factory reset, and if it won’t solve the problem give the phone to warranty. Either way I don’t have many options here – will try to reset phone first, it doesn’t take much time and doesn’t hurt.
But have one more question (maybe lame, but I’ve never done rooting) – since the rooting void warranty, is it possible to make an update to retail.UK JB and then COMPLETELY remove root with any trails it was on phone? So I won’t lost warranty and have newest software? If yes, then it will make sense to look for someone to help me with the whole update process.

Take alook in the dev section and search rsdlite with this tool you can flash 672.180.41.en.eu (fastboot file has a different name)
There are many threads on how to
Then you upgrade to JB
Root is not needed for any of this
dude there will be some big media file on ur SD card which would be not able to read like in my case there was 1.4gb mkv video file which was not readable by mediaproces so it was constantly trying to update the gallery so becuase of such files which are unreadble causes media process to constantly run.....so check ur SD card whether u have any such file...if no then search for dev section for root and flash JB rom....
