So I've had my phone rooted since day one and the last two months my bill has showed fees for two if my three lines with hot spot fees and it just so happens to be the two rooted phones with hot spots. Both of witch are Evo 3ds just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Or if any one has any suggestions on a solution to my problem. Both phones are 1.5 hboot one of them is running CM7 one eternity.

This.
If you're going to use the feature, at least pay for it. People that use the feature without paying and use a lot of data are part of the reason why unlimited data plans are going away.
I don't use this service but unlocked hotspots come with every rom and it is now being added to my bill. Just trying to find out why.

They have no way of telling you are rooted, or running a hotspot app, especially if you have never even used the hotspot app. If it's on your bill, either someone on your account put it there, or it may have just been a mistake by a rep. Either way, there is nothing we can do about it here. You need to call your carrier and have them take it off.
I know there is nothing any of you can do about it I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

M8, the wifi hotspot (if thats what you mean) is a feature of the phone and you should not be billed ontop of your usual bill for it, if your a crazy downloader and have just downloaded about 20 dvd's from it or something then fair enough they may have something to moan about, but from my understanding it's a feature of the phone and if you have an unlimited data plan then they have no right to bill you extra for using something on your phone that has nothing to do with them, all you are doing if you use it is utilizing your phones features and your tarriffs benefits.
Speak to them and get it sorted, it's never happened to me in over 4 years of using HTC devices with this feature rooted or not.

unlimited data plans are going mental in the UK, 3, t-mobile and i think another one offer unlimited data, no signs of them going anywhere.
Plus this guy shouldn't be paying for this, unless he signed up to something, this is a feature of the phone and nothing to do with the network.

That is a fact. There are thousands of reports of the same issues with the company. Also, just look at the tax fraud alone and tell me that they care about doing things that are legal.
I don't have to source anything to an uneducated member. Pick up a paper once in a while.
btw, THOSE PHONES BELONG to us. Not sprint. They can't legally block a function of the phone to force profit. They get away with it because no one stops them. Just like this so called 10 dollar extra a month per phone for having a rock solid speedy phone. they didn't provide that phone to us. HTC DID! Consumers no longer have control over large companies. The government no longer has control.
I never got billed, but one time I went to turn on 4g and accidently turned on hot spot. Within 5 minutes I received a text from sprint mentioning the benefit of the hot spot feature and how to add it to my plan. Coincidence?

Like hell they don't. After the Evo 4G came out and they offered their cheap unlimited, they had a huge influx of customers. After that, major network areas had problems with people even able to get data at all. How did they fix it? They let everyone have data, just at a slower speed. How else do you think reprovisioning works? Or deleting the Sprint proxies inside EPST?

Not true. Think of it like the QoS settings on a router. To maintain everybody having network access, they limit the speeds of everybody.

Ugh, are you kidding me? I didn't even know they did this so called reprovisioning. I've complained a lot before about their data, this is kind of the problem. Sprints equipment is way under par, that's why their data sucks. This network vision crap better be a big upgrade to both speed and capacity to their total network, or it won't mean jack in the long run.
OK I have the amaze with the 60 dollar unlimited 4g plan and I only used about 989 mbs of data I started from the 13 of this month to. "Abuse King" I certainly hope it said this. It would be epic... All hail the King of abuse!
$70 "T-Mobile Monthly 4G" pre-paid will give you unlimited talk, text, and 5gb of data before they throttle.
They also offer 100 minutes, unlimited text, and 5gb before throttling for $30 a month (which is what I use)
Sorry, I can't speak to Simple Mobile and their throttling, I just had to quote the abuse King.
I read through their ToS. It says
Protective Measures
To provide a good experience for the majority of our customers and minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance we may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. Additionally, in the event that a customer is in violation of the Permissible and Prohibited Data Uses listed above, we may reduce your data speed for the remainder of that billing cycle or terminate data service without notice or refund. We may also suspend, terminate, or restrict your data session, Plan, or service if you use your Data Plan in a manner that interferes with other customers' service, our ability to allocate network capacity among customers, or that otherwise may degrade service quality for other customers.
Update: Now this is just funny. I went to check if Simple Mobile is a BBB accredited Business, they are not. Look at what the BBB rated them though.

Read the small print, if its one GB then its one GB every one knows unlimited is not unlimited anymore. At least you should if you know enough about phones to be here. I'm on contract and have 5 lines (not all mine of course, me, wife and kids) but my unlimited data is 5 GB & i expect if i hit that which i make sure i don't that i'll be throttled. So if your plan throttles at 1GB and you get throttled at 1GB what's the problem? You didn't read the small print? I just dont get it. I don't like it, i mean on 4g i get close to 20mbs & i can connect 8 devices they love to advertise that. So i could eat up my cap in a couple hrs. But thats how it is. Look how fast our phones are and oh yeah your capped but you can hit your cap faster with our network then any other lol. & buy a HTC one series phone will give you no sd card slot but 50GB of drop box storage. I laughed in the reps face when he told me that i said so with a 5GB cap in ten months i can fill up my drop box lol. Should have seen his face. I know, i know, wifi but still. I swear its a conspiracy, speed up the networks and phones lower caps and raise data prices, & now send us all to cloud storage wtf!!!! SORRY END RANT
Oh yeah & XDA premium but simple mobile? Spend your $ on a good plan.

My sister wants to get this phone and she is still on the EVO 4G.
I told her she could just buy out her contract if she wants the full discount. It's only $50.00 (she's a few months out).
The Corporate Sprint store said she had to hand in her old EVO 4G to do the Buyout. She wants to keep it and sell it (she already got offered like $130.00 for it).
She called Sprint and she said she had to go to a Store to do it.
I thought you could just call up sprint, payoff contract and then buy and Sprint phone after full discount from any authorized dealer with a 2 year renewel.
And sell your old phone any old time you want.
I bought out of my contract no problem...they never asked for me to return anything back....besides that she paid for her of EVO with her money I would call again and speak to a diffrent service rep....

No point in calling again. That info is correct. Sprint modified the program. It is no longer being performed thru customer care. It is now being done in the stores and a buyback of the old device IS required. You were told correctly. Customer care can't offer this anymore. It must be done in the stores. This was done to reduce issues from the previous program.

A couple of internal docs regarding the new buy-out program were posted on Inside Sprint Now, which of course doesn't exist any more. Yes, starting in the second half of June early buy-outs are only supposed to be done through corp stores and yes, you have to turn in the phone that Sprint gave you in the previous upgrade cycle. The fee depends on the age of the current phone. It is a new program though, so you might still be able to do it the old way by calling customer service and without trading in your current phone, just depends on CSR's knowledge and luck.
Wow, just another reason to leave Sprint I guess. I think that's pretty dumb, as you essentially loose the money you paid for the device. Unless the money you paid to get the device is somehow subtracted from the price you pay to buy out the contract.
yeah this is bs, why would i pay off the rest of the fone just to turn in the fone and buy a new contract.... if sprint keeps this, they are gonna use alot of business....
You people are ridiculous....
How about you wait until your contract is up then? Then you can upgrade and keep your phone. If u want to upgrade early this is how you have to do it. Otherwise don't do it. Simple. Yet another reason to leave sprint? Lol. That sounds silly. Please explain to me how other providers run their buyout programs.

I think it's ridiculous when folks say I can't do X because they are under contract.
ok so i guess we're pretending that they didn't just take away the premire upgrades. you should be able to buy out the rest of your contract and not have to turn in the phone too, thats not a good deal, say you pay 165 to end your contract and then have to turn in a 500+ plus phone just do get a new one, might as well just pay the etf and keep the phone, u could actually make more money to get a new phone this way.

Just depends on the phone you have.
This is one specific program.. there are others
The push with buyback of the current phone in this specific program is the increased need for phone recycling, which sprint currently leads in.
The crying over contract changes that happened 6 months ago or more is just silly. Premium customers received one last upgrade to be used by end of year.

PdaNet is USB tethering that claims to mask your other device. I also thought another developer was working on this, might has been Chainfire.
"Pda net" plus "Fox fi" (both of the apps for Fox fi)...won't work on jellybean, but works great on ics, haven't been caught in the past year so far...it uses the phone apn instead of the tethering one, i believe that's how it works, so att only sees you using phone data

I was wondering WHY and HOW ATT can still be charging for it? Courts recently ruled in a Verizon case that they HAD TO offer free tethering on ALL plans. I will have to look up the link but I am sure I read it in yahoo news. So if that is the case and a judge declared it, then HOW can ATT get away with it. Your paying for you 2Gb, 3Gb, or like in my case Unlimited data plan. So if you use YOUR DATA up to what you pay for (2Gb/3Gb data) it should NOT MATTER HOW YOU USE IT. PERIOD...

This does not and will not affect ATT's tethering in any way. Verizon had an agreement when they bought access to their 4G baseband. The lawsuit was because they broke that agreement. In addition, it was a settlement, not a court ruling. This is not the case with ATT. Sorry guys.
I heard that tethering to laptops/desktop/computer in general is easier to get caught than tethering to a tablet. If you use a lot of data by tethering to a computer, AT&T might find out easily compared to if you're tethering to a tablet.

Thank you, this is the one I couldn't remember.
I got the warning once when using my iPhone back in the day with MyWi.
I have yet to get caught (knock on wood) using the Galaxy S2 on my grandfathered unlimited plan. I've used it a handful of time (road trip Slingbox on my laptop for streaming TV and in airports waiting for a plane).
What I've done on the PC end is disable anything that would try and access the internet other than the web browser. If your computer is let's say...looking for Windows Updates that's pretty obvious it's not coming from a phone. So that's one of a few services I disable when I opt to tether the laptop to the phone.
Been doing this for a year now and okay (/knocks on wood/)
I pay the 11 some dollars a month for the TEP plan on my phones line, and I love the benefits. Since my first samsung moment dropped, I've probably had
3 replacement Samsung Moments
5 replacement EVO 4G's
5 replacement EVO 3D's
2 Replacement Blackberry Bold 9650's
I realize that's a lot of phones, but when you send out refurbed phones that were broken and then "repaired" what can you expect. I've honestly NEVER physically broken a phone to date (knock on wood), they've all suffered from software issues, or charging ports detaching etc.
Here's my question. I was talking to my friend last night, and he wants a new GS3 because of a superficial issue with his screen. I've had one or two phones replaced for some silly reasons, so I understand why he'd want a new one, but to date I've NEVER been charged for a phone replacement. They said it's a 150.00 fee for any kind of issues, and that's part of his TEP plan (He pays the 11.00 also).
Am I lucking out because I'm friends with all of the reps there? If there's a problem I walk into the store, ask for a replacement phone, they order one and I'm out of the store in 5 minutes and then the phones there tomorrow by 2pm. Can anyone chime in on this?
He will ONLY have to pay the 150 deductible if is physical damage.

Okay. That would explain why he has to pay, and why I've never paid. Thanks!
I knew a guy that took his dirty tennis shoes back for new one because of a stupid return policy. Doesn't make it right.

Yes, and the thousands of people with 4G / LTE phones who live in areas WITHOUT 4G / LTE are still forced to pay that 10.00 a month, what's right about that?
Thanks for your concern though, ironically between the ages 18 and 19 I worked at my local Kmart as a loss prevention associate, and shoes were always the easiest to catch.

I wouldn't take moral advice on policies from people who void their warranties by rooting their phones. It's like taking financial advice from a hobo. However, yeah, doesn't surprise me that 1) they'd be easy to catch and 2) that people would steal shoes from that K-Mart. Aaaah, good times at K-Mart...miss the K-Cafe

That fee doesn't exist. I wish people would let that go.

True but there is the premium fee which if you cant get over 500k why make them pay the fee

Its a smartphone data fee. I've never had 4g or LTE in my area. Don't care either.

Even with the $10 added fee it's still cheaper than anyone else for unlimited data. It's not a big deal.
I see the fee as one for unlimited data - way cheaper for me than the other business models. So I'm willing to pay.
Unfortunately when you get less than 200kbps at best you still pay a premium data fee and who cares about unlimited data when your speeds are pathetic. My phone is basically useless unless I'm on WiFi. Sprint won't cancel your contract unless you're roaming excessively and costing them money.

We dish out 50.00 a month to sprint for that "premium data" fee lol. That's a lot of money we just give sprint for the hell of it imo.

I'm sorry but premium data is for all smart phones because they use data all the time.
Still cheaper than what anyone else offers.
Everyone that complains about spotted with sprint, didn't you check coverage before committing?
I have great coverage everywhere I go. Hence why I have Sprint.

A quick story about the fee being for smartphones. My daughter's EVO had a software issue that I couldn't fix so we went to the Sprint store and switched her temporarily to her old LG Optimus. The Rep was able to remove the $10 fee. So tell me how is this possible if you can still have a non 4g capable smartphone on the plan? I do agree though that it is cheaper than the alternatives.
No clue. I just know they add it to all smartphones whether they have 4g or not. As of over a year.
Last year the only android phone that didn't get the fee was the Samsung replenish which is a piece of crap of a phone.
Sprint changed the 4g fee in August 2010 to a premium data fee for Android, wp, and BB phones.
You must have gotten a good Rep then.

He was not stealing the store policy was if ANY thing was wrong with your purchase they would exchange it. Needless to say they have gone out of business.

The problem is I had decent coverage until I moved to a more urban area and now my coverage absolutely sucks.
Spent a half hour on the phone today with a "technical support" rep who was just reading off her computer how to update my profile and other pointless things. Trying to blame my poor speeds on my phone. She wanted me to take my phone to a repair center until I told her it can't be my phone because all four of my phones are just as bad. She finally told me she would pass it down to the service techs in my area and call when they figure something out. They keep blaming it on an outage, but it has been this bad for over a year.

there would also be a deductible for loss/theft, although I realize that didnt happen here.
