Hello all,
Ultimately , I am trying to downgrade my 1.50 hboot via the method on HTCEvoHacks . I cannot temp root via their method however, because I a have 2.17 ruu installed. They recommended to just use taco root. When I try taco, it boots to recovery , but I get a red triangle. In fact , when I press "recovery" from hboot, I get the same issue. I have completely re-flashed the stock 2.17 RUU with full data wipe, still same problem.
I must be missing something here, would appreciate your help
thanks
By the way I used zergrush it works better. Also if you want to go to 2.08 do the first part of unknowns thread that's about the mainver downgrade in adb then run the 2.08 ruu exe and you are all good. Start from beginning. I couldn't get the 2.17 as PG86IMG to stick until I used the one in the tools thread. But ya zergrush man

Thanks patrao, will do. However, I cannot change mainver since I must have temp root. I cannot use the zergRush temp root method (meant for 2.08) , so the only way is to tacoroot. I cannot succesfully finish taco because the phone crashes right at recovery. Red triangle. Is it possible my recovery is corrupted in some way ? Like I said, I flashed a fresh copy of 2.17, including recovery. Not sure what would crash recovery in that way.
Any help much appreciated .
tacoRoot
when you open root.bat in the tacoRoot folder, after it does its thing itll show hold down power button, volume up, and volume down but all at once and when it reboots to recovery you'll be fine. my only problem is after that part and doing the mainver commands, i put the pg86IMG.zip in my root of my sd card, and it wont find it. it checks for it but doesn't find it.
Ok, Vol Up/Down and Power got me to the Recovery options. Had tried it before, but did not work for some reason.
patrao, I did change over to 2.08, and proceed with zergRush , thank you.
However, I currently have phone bricked, but I cannot get the 1.40 flash going. When I insert bricked phone into Ubuntu (virtual box) , both Win and Ubuntu report a non-android USB. The driver reads Qualcomm I believe, and I suppose this is why it cannot find device and flash.
Any hints to recognize the device once bricked ?
thank you .

Success. Thank you all for your help.
I had to run Ubuntu on its own. VirtualBox / Win does not recognize the phone once bricked .
Finally got mine from 1.5-1.4. Took some stressful hours but finally got it to work.....now have s-off

Hi,
Ive been meaning to S-Off my HTC ReZound in order to RUU back to Stock and hopefully get a replacement phone due to some issues. I only have a Macbook Pro but I do have Parallel 7 installed running Windows 8 Release Preview. I also have the necessary Fastboot and ABD files to HTCdev unlock and run commands. I just want to know how I can go about S-Off-ing my device, if possible, on my Mac
The follow is what my phone is currently at/running. Some detailed instructions on how to would be much appreciated. Thanks
S-ON
Unlock via HTCdev Unlock

Yea I read all that, wondering which download/rom to use and if I'm on a correct firmware..
Looks like you're on ICS with 2.21 HBOOT. Get the ICS version...
This is an older thread but I'm reviving it as a mac user. I just recently got my (very old) original Intel imac back from my inlaws as they upgraded to a refurbished mac. The screen is going, and it can't be upgraded anymore to a higher OS as is not a Core Duo 2 chip. Anyway, as I don't have space to partition my Mac Air (yes I'm a Mac fanboy, but iphone hater) I used to have bootcamp on the old iMac and used to run windows XP on it. Back then I was first transitioning to Mac, so I wasn't going cold turkey. I'm windows free and have been for a while. Long story....getting to the point here, if I can find my old XP disc, I can reinstall Windows on it. Is it possible to S-off with Unlimited's Juopunutbear with XP? Again, I've been out of the Windows game for a while, so give me slap if I sound silly. I'm about ready to get this thing S-off and do the ROM thing again (Darn I miss the ease of my Dinc). My phone crapped out the other day and I was stuck on a white HTC screen, so I had to relock and run the global RUU again. But I'd like to try roms on the stock firmware, and with the most recent release, I'm sure some Roms might be built from that too.
Sugarhill, I may have missed it but was your rezound previously s-off? I only ask because you do not have to re s-off ever if your rez was s-off before. Unless you flashed a non engineering bootloader and ran the lock command from fastboot.

No Stang, I was never S-off on my Rezound. I'm a Mac only household, and my work computer (windows...and I barely use it) cannot download or install stuff without administrator privileges so I've never been able to S-off. I'd like to, and with the reaquisition of my old iMac, it has been previously licensed to run my copy of Windows XP on it through apple's bootcamp program.
I miss my dinc and getting your rooted versions of updates for it.

Ah ok, gotcha. Well even if it an older mac, how about just install Ubuntu on it and use the linux version of j bear's s-off? I don't really know if thats possible, but I do know the s-off does support ubuntu, I just don't know if it supports XP...
Yeah either install Ubuntu or find a copy of windows from the zeraw mart

I know you're trying to help me, but I'm just not getting it. Still no idea what you're saying. Just read an article about somebody dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 on an original intel imac just fine. So I'm going to try that this weekend, and see if I can't finally get this thing S-off. I used to try Roms left and right on my Dinc. While I use my phone now more than ever during the day than I did back then, I won't be able to change quite so often, but some of the Roms I've looked into seem pretty awesome.
I was wondering if there was an alternative way to unlock the bootloader for my HTCevo3D. I'm on hboot 1.58(ICS Stock OTA Update)
I've tried the HTCDev method about 50 times in total. Used 3 systems. iMac running Windows 7/XP, Ubuntu, and Mac OS X.
My Lenovo X61 laptop running Ubuntu, Windows 7/XP, and my custom-built desktop pc running Windows 7(ASRock990FXExtreme3 Motherboard)
So I've come to the conclusion that something is wrong with the phone itself.
Again, is there an alternative method for unlocking the bootloader so I can install a custom kernel?

There's a known problem flashing the unlock .bin file if you've upgraded to ICS using the OTA, causing the phone to hang instead of prompting for confirmation. Try flashing the RUU and then flashing the unlock .bin file again after that.
If that doesn't work you can try unknownforce's downgrade method in the stickies of the development forum to go straight to S-OFF, and you will need the RUU for that as well.

[Q] Getting "Error [140]: Bootloader Version Error" when I try to downgrade my HBoot
Okiedoke. So, I've got a little experience with the Evo 3D, but my last one was shoddily done and I don't think I ever even attained S-OFF on it, so when I had to get mine replaced by Sprint, I figured I'd follow a guide and do this thing right.
I first followed the HTC method of unlocking my bootloader and rooting the device, and then installed TWRM. I was using my phone for about a week before I just today decided I had enough time to look at these instructions and follow them. I successfully used this PG86IMG file (from this thread) to brick my device, followed the instructions from the original thread up to 27, and then realized I might have a problem on my hands. I can't boot my phone into the OS anymore (I get a sudden slowdown and then freeze of the boot animation before it restarts itself), but I can still get into the bootloader and Fastboot. So, I figured, why not just run the 1.13 RUU EXE in Fastboot? So I tried, but every time I try to run an RUU EXE (I've tried several, both 1.13 and 2.17 versions), after the RUU pushes the file to the phone and checks signatures I get error 140. I saw that Unknownforce said here that these instructions are "extremely dated" and to use the new ones in his newer thread, but I'm not sure where to pick up.
In short, I would love it if someone could recognize what the next step I need to take is. Ask me for any further information I haven't provided, I'll be more than glad to help you guys help me!
I'm having a similar issue, the only difference between our issues being that I get Error 131: CUSTOMER ID ERROR. Still working on how to fix it.

Put the PG86IMG(.zip) on the sdcard and boot to bootloader and update that way. The ruu exe checks the Cid, the bootloader flash doesn't.

I tried this two different ways:
Got a 1.13 PG86IMG ZIP from Shipped ROMs, renamed to PG86IMG and put on my SD card, but my phone didn't want anything to do with it (it would load and check it, but then kick me back out to the main bootloader screen). Then I downloaded a 1.13 RUU EXE and extracted the "rom" file from it, renamed and slapped on card. Phone loads and checks correctly, but then returns the "Main version is older!" error.

Then your misc version didn't downgrade as it should have. Go to the main thread and flash the firmware zip file that's listed there, it will put you up to 1.58 hboot, then start that process from scratch.

Okiedoke. Just to verify (sorry for being thick), when you say "Main Thread" you're talking about this one, right? I ask because the only firmware I see there is for Virgin, and I'd rather keep Sprint firmware on my phone (unless it really, truly doesn't change anything but the name).
Also, your method requires launching a Linux distro, yes? Is it OK if it's off a live USB, like the Ubuntu installer OS? For some reason I can't get my machine to cooperate when I try to install a permanent Linux OS (something to do with UEFI settings, I think).

I actually ended up pulling an old laptop out from storage and putting Ubuntu on that so I can have an actual workstation. I ran the PG86IMG you mentioned, which got my phone back up and running with HBOOT 1.58. Then I followed all of your instructions to the letter, down to where you say to run the 1.13 RUU EXE. I tried running that on Ubuntu using WINE, but I kept getting an error. Then I tried running it on Windows 8, but I can't seem to get the EXE to detect my phone is connected. Then I even tried running the RUU in a WinXP virtual machine, but I can't seem to get that to work either. I then tried simply using the 1.13 ZIP as PG86IMG, but I'm getting the same error where after it loads and scans the file, it kicks me out to the main bootloader screen with no warnings or error messages.
At this point, what would be the better option? Should I attempt Revolutionary and get S-Off, then redo the instructions? Or should I do something else? Do I even need to install the 1.13 RUU? I assume I do, because my phone is unusable if I don't...

If the bootloader is not saying anything about the zip file it's not a valid signed zip. Find another copy of it or extract it from the ruu exe. Run the exe and open up the temp folder and search for rom.zip then rename to PG86IMG(.zip) and put on sdcard. Then try again. You need special drivers for windows 8, which is why that didn't work, the other two are emulated versions of Windows, and don't have the proprietary drivers to work properly either. So unless you have access to another windows pc that isn't 8, your only option is to get the sdcard the correct file.

No dice. I can't change my CID without getting an error, presumably because I can't HTCDev unlock (when I get to the final step, I get success on fastboot but never the prompt on the phone).

Hey all,
I have an HTC One running GE on Sense (it's 4.2.2), with Bulletproof. My computer is an HP, running on Win 8.1.
I made the mistake of not formatting on the upgrade from 4.1 and that's taken away like 4 GB of space for me to use. I was trying to reformat so I could get some of that back, but when I put the phone in download mode in CWM, ADB can't find the phone.
Obviously, I can't reformat without having a ROM ready to install.
I've done a number of things to get it to show up in ADB:
a) checked for HTC sync (not present)
b) checked for other drivers in device manager (not present)
c) enabled the install of unsigned drivers (apparently this needed to be done separately in Win 8.1)
d) tried to point the system to the Universal Naked Drivers (the system says no suitable drivers found)
e) enabled USB debugging
Results are the same - ADB is unable to find it. I see the device under device manager, but when I try to have it use the drivers I want, it says it cannot find them.
Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

I do, but if I need to get s-off first I have a few more questions.
1) Do I need to try to run adb when the phone is on the HBOOT screen or when the phone is in CWM/TWRP's sideload option?
2) What method of getting s-off am I going to be able to use from win7/the version of TWRP I'm in?
3) Is there a way to upgrade the HBOOT so it does work better?
4) What is an RUU?
Some of these questions are probably total noob questions, but it's mostly because the current GE+Sense/Bulletproof combination is insanely stable and this is my first HTC phone.

1. you run adb when the phone is plugged into the pc and booted up or when the phone is in twrp/cwm .. it doesn't work in bootloader
2.revone we hope or rumrunner maybe
3. hboot is part of the firmware update .. you need s-off first
4. A RUU is a Retail update utility it's how the carrier returns your phone to stock (out of the box condition)
If you looking to just gain back the space lost from the update all you need is a root explorer
and go to /data/media thats your old sdcard - you can delete what you don't want from here
the new sdcard is located at data/media/0
