well on home screen press the soft menu key(alternatively go 2 system settings and selcet apps) and select manage apps then under dwnlded scroll down to select Messaging open and u see clear data button press the same 2 clear data and below it u see clear cache if its 0.00b leave it else clear it the reboot and check ur sms it will work

i couldn't find 'messaging' or similar app in the setting under 'app'. the list only contains apps installed by me. is it because it's considered as system app?

You should be able to download right to your phone, make sure allow unknown sources is checked in security settings. Then go to download folder and install, or copy and paste with a root explorer.
Using a root explorer I saw that both of those files were still installed on my phone, I couldn't uninstall them to try and reinstall them. I get the message " uninstall not successful"

Just did this on my phone to test. Using root explorer go to system apps ,make sure it is mounted r/w long click on contacts and select delete. Go to download folder find contact apk, long click and select copy. Go back to system apps and select copy. Long press on contacts apk in system, select permissions and set to rw-rw-rw- , then reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did exactly that and it still have the problem. Not sure if this is related but when I go to settings-apps-downloaded or All nothing appears in the folders, the apps appear in my app drawer and run fine. Were you able to uninstall both the files?

The apps not showing up is fixed in 7.3 , would you try updating. Then clear app data from manage apps for both contacts and storage. By the way how did you clear it the first time ?

No, they aren't anywhere.
Checked my contacts app, it isn't running nor can I enable it. I noticed after restarting my phone the message would come back and I have to clear contacts storage each time. This is a real pain..

Other than restoring to stock and rerooting and unlocking, I am out of ideas. All of your data would be saved so it isn't that big of a pain.
Edit...do you have both these lg contact apps in system apps? And are the permissions set as shown ?

I've downloaded the attach from web-gmail but nothing... =\
Gmail most likely deemed it as dangerous so it killed it when it hit the server and will not allow you to download it. Use Dropbox or something like that for this.

Ok, thanks. I've retried to download the app from Gmail and the downloading+installation worked. Now, my problem isn't keep the apk file...but cancel the not-working download process that is always active also after reboot and wiping of cache partiotion...

This Force Close is a conflict of Contacts sync from an application.
Here are below a few things to try (backup first and root is sometimes required):
• Settings > Apps > All > Contacts/People and Contacts Storage > Force stop & Clear data. This will wipe your contact list so backup first!
• Reboot to recovery then wipe cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions.
• With a file manager and root permissions go to /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/ and delete (or rename) 'databases'.
• Clear data of GMail app
• Settings > Apps > All > Browser > Clear cache and data.
• Update your firmware
• Format your external sdcard.
• Delete all account syncs and clear data of People app.
• Freeze all apps which have the permission to sync your contacts then unfreeze them one by one to find the guilty app.
• Synchronising Facebook contacts with a GMail account can generation this FC 'process.android.acore'.
• Clear cache of your contacts and your calendar with Titanium Backup for instance
• Delete all your contacts strored in your SIM card (if any)

You need to pull a log.. search this forum on how to set up adb and then search log cats.. When you have one post it here and I'll look through it..
What is it that you erased or changed before you got that error. Please don't say anything bc there had to be something modified to throw an error..The phone just doesn't do it bc
