[Q] Battery draining super fast after updating to Nottachtrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, all
yesterday i updated my Atrix 4g to 2.3.6 rom NottachTrix. coming from the Darkside, i have found that the battery drains really fast. 20% in an hour or so with very light use. i did not have any problems with the Darkside. being a new user i can not post in to the development thread but someone else is having similar problems there. could anyone point me in the right direction?
cheers

I had the same problem with an ICS ROM. Try disabling sync when you don't use you phone, this sucks your battery as hell.

i have the same problem with ics rom y changes kernel 3 times but is the same, any one now how to fix..

so far i have tried everything used fauxs 1 ghz non-overclocked kernel, tring set sync off etc but no result. i am trying to flash new radio now...

Download CPU spy to see if you are getting deep sleep and see what the CPU is doing. Report back your findings.
Also check what's using the battery the most.
Sent from my Atrix with XDA Premium

Try doing a complete wipe and flashing the ROM again.
I remember I had this issue with Neutrinos ROM and doing the above method fixed everything.

you can try to wipe battery stats in recovery

I've just instalalled neutrino on my device twice. I forgot to wipe the user data and was having similar issues. Now its back to normal for me.

I'm running the latest Nottachtrix and my battery life is awful too. I've flashed this a few different times with the same result, wiping the cache, dalvik cache, and, and user data, and I've tried many different kernels, all with the same result. I have not tried wiping battery stats yet, but I'll give it a shot. I think it might be a problem with the stock Atrix 2.3.6 rom in general and not what Nottach has done. I know other people have reported this in the Nottachtrix forum too.

which radio are you using?

i also got awful battery life on nottachtrix but i did change the radio to N_01.77.30P, due to some latin american users reports (i'm from chile) that this was the best radio for battery life and indeed i did notice a lot of difference. with 3 google accounts syncronized, wifi sleep policy to never off, whatsapp, viber and almost 90 apps, i get a day and a half of juice from heavy ussage and easily get 3-4 days of moderate use.
so, my recomendation is that you test some radios, it does make a difference. i'm currently on nottachtrix 1.3.1 with faux kernel to 1ghz.

In your opinion. Best Kernel for Battery Life?

I've used ninphetamine 2.1.3+ and it used to drain my battery a fair bit. After having seen another user who said he was experiencing better battery life with ninphetamine 2.0.5. I flashed the older version and it turns out to be indeed better.
My idle drain rate is now 15-17mA using Battery Monitor widget.
So when put in picture. Drain rate is about 2% per hour with minimal usage. (Note 3g data was on)
Anyone else have a better kernel?
EDIT 1:
I've tried using SiyahKernel (KI3) and it seems that according to Battery Monitor widget the idle battery drain is 14-15ma. Seems to be much better. However, occasionally the touchscreen freezes and only the touch button works. But then again it could have been because I was using the KI3 kernel on a KH3 rom. Would report back after I finally get off my lazy ass and flash a KI3 rom
EDIT 2:
Got off my lazy ass finally. Flashed LeoMar 2.7.1 rom with SiyahKernel 1.7.8. Will report back after a while. Though I must say that for some reasons after the boot animation the phone turns black for quite a long time (1-4 Seconds) before the lockscreen appears. This did not happened with the default LeoMar 2.7.1 kernel. Will report back in 24 Hours.

Thanks sherlock. I posted my findings and was asking if anyone else had better. If it the time of the month of you. Stay off this forum.
Personally I find it very difficult to make meaningful comparisons, especially at idle.
Battery Monitor Widget gives estimates and not actual current drain. See this thread for some discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056486 but basically it's either not in Samsung's battery driver or the app is not reading the information. So you are comparing estimates and the margin for error might be pretty large.
When you flash new kernels you also need to recalibrate the battery. That also affects your battery drain estimates. (I've had Battery Monitor Widget tell me my battery is going up when its unplugged, so go figure.)
Battery life at idle is affected by so many factors. Maybe your signal strength is better one day than another. Or you got more emails or did more syncing. Or one app just happen to glitch and have a very long wakelock. If you get battery drain, you should be checking your partial wakelocks with BetterBatteryStats. Did you get more partial wakelocks when you were running Nin 2.1.3? Is it the kernel's fault or did you just have a misbehaving app?
I like experimenting with different kernels too, so my point is don't expect miracles when somebody says Kernel X gives amazing battery life compared to Kernel Y. Personally I think they are all about the same at idle, and the big differences are in your settings and your usage. If you wipe your phone, don't add any Google or Exchange accounts, and don't sync or download anything, your battery will last 3 or 4 days on idle no matter what kernel you use.
Stock rooted KI3 (cf-root) is the best for battery life for me, i also have constat 3800+ quadrant score (with top of 4109 as my screenshot in leomar 2.7 rom thread).
Also i have the phone a lot, but really a lot less hot while gaming or stressing it.
KI3 stock kernel and SiyahKernel are at the moment the best in battery life. Anything else is running on older sources and drain more.
The best for me is SpeedMod! Smooth and long life battery. There is something you can't do (bootanimation oc uv bln) but simply great!
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk
best results for me: stock kernel reflashed after rooting, for that stock rom.
Bar none the way to go.
Stock Rooted KI3 does look good, am yet to test it though
Hmm. So seems like you guys are experiencing deliciously good battery life with KI3 kernel. I shall try it and report back with some numbers.
try siyah kernel. one of the fastest growing kernels IMO
For me is Ninphetamine 2.1.3 and now i'm trying SiyahKernel 1.7.7
My question is.. between stock ki3 and SiyahKernel 1.7.7 the difference is really small (barely notice it) or big?
I tend to not flash to much kernels since the very small chance to corrupt the efs folder (even if ofc i have my backup), so if it's only small improvement, i stay on the stock ki3, if it improves a lot, i prolly try it
I've been using the siyah kernel v1.7.7 and I've been experiencing a great battery life. I didn't use the stock kernel for long to make a comparison but I sugest you give siyah at least a try, since you can always go back to stock if you don't like ir.

batistaRom and ninp 2.0.5 great battery life for me...if you like i can post screenshots if anyone is using setcpu, depending on your kernel try and research in the kernel thread regarding frequencies that other users suggest and adjust yours accordingly...thats what i have done for mine and i could not be any more happier
Alright. I've finally got off my lazy ass and flashed a 2.3.5 rom (LeoMar if you must know) and am currently using siyah 1.7.8. Will report back within 24 hours after I've put the device through a day's use.

Pix or it didn't happen
Hi, I posted earlier saying that siyah 1.7.7 gave me good battery life. I tried now the cf root v4.2 KI3 and I had better results. Well, I'm someone that don't play many games, but I surf a lot and download a lot of stuff on wifi. I don't care much for overclocking so I think I'm going to stay wth KI3 cf root. For me they're both great for battery life, and maybe the other ones I have not tried are great also (speedmod, ragemod, ninphetamine...)
I think what happens with kernels, and this happens also with custom ROMs (and everything really, brands, etc..) is there is a lot of fanaticism. People like to choose one ROM and kernel and stick to them. They start to defend the kernels they use convincing themselves they're the best no matter what. That is in my opinion the reason because this kind of discussion turns meaningless. Well not that meaningless, at least it gives an idea of the kernels people are using, at least we know speedmod, ragemod, siyah, nimph, are all great kernels.
I'm not criticizing anyone, in fact, I'm just another example of the people I described.

can battery life on UnNamed be that good?

I recently got the galaxy s2 and it is my first Android phone. I love it but the battery life wasn't great. I recently rooted my phone and flashed with unNamed ROM and I feel like the battery life has doubled. Has everyone gotten this or could it be something else?

Battery life is great for me. The general census seems to be the same bro. UnNamed is an awesome rom that uses entrophys kernel that should increase the battery life of your device. Welcome to android. By the way. Cognition is an awesome rom too along with serendipity.
I flashed to UnNamed rom yesterday, today is my first full day with it. With moderate usage after 10 hours (wifi mostly off for the day), I'm sitting at 80%, with stock, I could barely make it to 15 hours.
What I noticed with UnNamed rom is my AOS usage is stable under 10% through out the day, where it was almost always >65% with stock!
Thanks for the reply guys!! Yeah it amazing how much better the battery has gotten with this ROM. I almost started to think the battery meter was off but I ran it down and its not off at all. Im not exaggerating when I say its getting double the time on a charge.
It seems to vary a bit for me. Yesterday I was at 75% remaining after 12hrs and I was using the phone a fair amount as I was off work. Today, also off work, I was down to around 45% after the same time. I didn't do anything more out of the ordinary but then again, I didn't specifically monitor it that close both days.
Either way, it's till much better than it was with stock.
Yup, there's crap in the stock ROM that drives data usage, which drives AOS up and kills battery.
Although: My "experimental" series kernels are based on 2.6.35.14, which it turns out hides AOS reporting without reducing drain.
OR - AOS was reported falsely high to begin with.
Still investigating.
FWIW, I have both Wifi sharing apps frozen in TiBu, but then I had it froze before flashing UnNamed, didn't see much of a battery increase until I flashed new rom.
As for AOS, it would start around 25% then fast climb to >90% in stock rom, I spent hours experimenting with different combos to see if anything definitive triggers the "reported" AOS drain, but nothing helped.
Anyways, I'm very happy with UnNamed and intend to keep it for now as I see no reason to flash to others at this point. A big THANK YOU to both gtg and entropy!
are you guys that are seeing reduced AOS use in UnNamed using Wi-Fi at all?
There seems to have been some correlation between turning Wi-Fi on in the stock ROM and increased AOS usage.
So I'm curious if this correlation disappears in UnNamed?
What is "AOS"?

My guess is there's some app in the stock ROM that gtg removed in Unnamed that is set to only use data when on wifi.
My high AOS problem in stock was not directly related to wifi being on. Once it reached >25%, it just kept creeping up sans a complete reboot.
Ah ok.
But your problem has disappeared since you installed UnNamed?
Yup, it's now anywhere from 2-15% during the day.

I have been using UnNamed for about a week, added task650s theme...
My battery life is noticeably improved over stock. My AOS is at 13%, third down... I never noticed what it was stock, just know this is a great ROM. Fast, stable, great battery life.
I forgot to ask gtg - is he including experimental or non-experimental?
If the kernel version is 2.6.35.7 - if AOS is less than 10% for you, you are doing EXTREMELY well.
If 2.6.35.14 (experimental) - That alone will make AOS display as far lower without actually changing drain statistics.
How does a different ROM improve battery life so much over stock? I already rooted and removed most of the bloatware, but I'm still concerned about battery life. I wonder if it's worth switching.
EDIT: Some posts are saying that it's the kernel. If I just go ahead and install it from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460 while still staying on the stock ROM, would it help my battery life?
My kernel is 2.6.35.7
Yesterday, while on the go, AOS stayed between 8-12% range. Today on charge, it's stable at 2%.
My kernel will provide some improvements in battery life, although I wouldn't consider there to be anything drastic yet compared to stock.
Unless you fall victim to the fuel_alerted wakelock... That one's nasty.
I might had been the victim of that wakelock, seeing how event/0 and suspense were killing the battery on stock rom.

[Q] Atrix CM7 IDLE battery drain = awful.

I'm not sure what's causing all the drains on Atrix.
I've also got an HTC desire running CM7. Both my atrix and the desire has the same apps running side-by-side. All setting's pretty much identical. FB running on the background, Mobile Data on etc. Just regular smartphone setting.
My GF's desire, dropped from 100% to only 95% in 10hours+, with PHONE IDLE sitting at 40%.
However, my Atrix drains 3% per hour when not in use. Battery shows Phone IDLE at 70%+. I did the guide outlined at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333 and it's no help.
Can someone explain to me the the unreasonable drain that's going on on my Atrix?
Old/not good radio most probably. Install "AT&T .91" radio from the fruitcakes post, also known as N_01.77.30P
5% in 10 hours is amazing, WOW. But yeah that does seem about right 3% an hour give or take. I think mines was like 3% every two hours or so when I had CM7.
I am the author of the guide you linked in the OP, and my idle time drainage is around what you mentioned for GF's Desire - 5% per 10 hours.
I have had amazing battery life both with my own modded Motoblur 2.3.4 and on CM7 right now.
If your battery drains - there's an app / software related issue on your end.
Flash a clean CM7 with full wipe. Recalibrate right after. Do a memory fix via SuperCharger v8 script.
There's no reason why you shouldn't have the same battery life as me after following these steps.

I've tried your guide, even disabling data/wifi the drains still unacceptable.
I'm using UK T-mobile Atrix with CM7 (tried both faux and stock kernel), radio is .92
It's frustrating because my GF's Desire lasted 48+hours with light-use after I switched her from MIUI to CM7. That's with contact sync, email sync and FB running in the background.

I've managed to vastly improved the issue by flashing a working radio. I'm using the n_01.100.00r FR radio for my UK T-Mobile. You might want to compile a list of radios in your guide because it helped me significantly. Thank you.

Glad you were able to resolve your problem. I actually do have "flashing Radio" listed as one of the solutions in post#2... though without a list.

Fascinate CM7 standby battery drain

So i have a verizon fascinate and am currently running cm7. (first tried the stable release but niw a nightly). Im eeally liking cm, but since i got it my battery life is garbage. Basically the drain seems to come from either the android os sercice or cell standby. Whenever i leave my phone inactive for a while, when i wake it up the battery has dropped a lot and tge phone is very warm. I have been modding this phone for a while, but im no android programmer. Purely based on the forum searchi. G ive done on the issue, it seemsblike cm7 has an issue with my modem or radio.
Extra info: my 3g/2g signals seem fine (always 0% time without signal). Wifi connectivity seems fine. Im also running glitch's kernal altho the problem has persisted with and without it (i did do a kernel cleaning first). I used the "go from anything to jb vanilla" guide cuz i was having issues switching to mtd at first (sry dont have a link rite now but it was on xda) . I get occassional force closes, but not really a problem. When i did a titanium back up, the very first time i flashed cm7 i Did restore system settings, but i did not do that every time since then. Ive done a fresh flash of the stable mod around 3 times trying different stuff, but this one is niggtly as i said, and each has had this issue.
If looked around a lot, and wgile this seems common, no one has posted a consistent solution or explanation to the problem, so thats what im looking for.

You could flash jt's vanilla gb rom. That has good battery life.

Plus do you have an overclock?

I have had the standby battery drain on every CM7 version and Kernel tried so far including 7.1 stable,7.0 nightlies,JT's Vanilla, and PoolParty. It's even worse if I shut phone down and don't plug in. It will drop 50 to 75% overnight with phone not on?
Has done it with undervolting, overclocking, and voltage control not even installed. This is first time I have seen others having similiar issues.
I think this is a known issue for all MTD roms on the fascinate, if I'm not mistaken.

I lose only 5% to 10% overnight on CM7 never really notice how much on MIUI cause I never ran it long enough. I guess every phone would behave differently for MTD's or maybe you have an app or mulitple ones that refreshes frequently(Fancy Widget comes to mind).
Well that really sucks, because i do enjoy cm7. But this also means if i go back to a touchwiz configuration like stock dl09 i shouldnt have these issues right?
But before that, has anyone who had these issues tried anything (ie kernels or maybe standby mode power conservation setting, etc... ) that have at least noticeably improved your battery life? Right now mines pretty unbearable (im talking 8hrs while on but totally inactive), but if i can get it up a little i might b able to manage.

I am also experiencing poor battery life. I just flashed 7.1.0 yesterday and absolutely love it. Was using com rom for a few months, but a friend said to try out cwm 7. I used to get about 6 - 8 hours of Pandora while at work and today I only got about 4 before my phone shut off. I'm going to try completely killing battery and charge with phone off tonight an see if it's any better tomorrow.
Any other suggestions? I'm not a noob when it comes to custom roms and flashing (I used to flash the **** out of my G1) but there may have been something I over looked when switching to cwm7. I wiped everything a few times before flashing including battery stats and dalvic.
My battery life is actually really good. Running latest nighty, undervolted -75 across the board, stock kernel, and no overclocking.
Just can't figure why I lose 50-75% of battery overnight when phone is shut down and not charging?
I have the same issue with CM7.1, turning phone of at 80% battery at night to find it at 25% at morning
Is there knows solution?

What effect do you think firmware has on battery life?

Lately my battery usage in battery monitor widget has been going over 1000ma multiple times a day. In fact this has been the case both at the beginning of my Rezound's life on the first firmware, and again now.
At one time in between I used to never see it go over at most 700ma, and experienced reasonable battery life too. Usually I saw about 70ma to 300ma usage. This was with several different roms on the same firmware. I think it was the first or second ICS firmware but I don't remember for sure.
I'm starting to think the firmware a few versions ago was better on battery life. What do you guys think?
I was running GB with the old firmware up until just last week. I was averaging about 20 hours on a full charge with 1-2 hours of screen on time. The rom ran great and the only issue I really had was my 4G would cut out completely whenever I tried to play Youtube videos....
Last week I updated to the latest official ICS global rom with the new radios and firmware, and my battery life has gone in the toilet. I'm averaging about 15 hours on a full charge with the same 1-2 hours of screen on time. My phone gets MUCH hotter when just doing simple things like browsing the web, often getting above 100* F. On GB firmware I was usually in the mid 90's unless I was gaming. This is with the stock kernel. For the past couple days I've been trying FunkyKernel with some under clocking and undervolting which has helped the heat but not so much the battery life.
I'm kinda pissed and strongly considering finally going S-OFF just so I can roll back to the old firmware.
I actually think I had the best battery life on the first ics firmware, but like I said it might have been the second one. I don't remember how many there have been, but I have done all of them.
This latest one just seems to suck down power.
Anybody else have some input?
I just recently updated to the official global firmware and am running Rezone Redux with Funky 3.7. I'm not doing any undervolting and the only change I made to the frequencies was setting the min to 96 and the max to the stock 1512. With my extended battery, I'm averaging around 4.5 hours of screen on time, which is actually about 30 minutes more than I've ever gotten out of this battery. Then again, I keep my data, WiFi, and GPS off at all times unless they're needed, screen brightness at 13%, I'm using an app called Greenify to hibernate certain apps (not freeze, there's a difference), and I'm using the Wheatley governor. I'm very happy with this setup.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
So maybe it isn't affecting your as much because you keep your radios turned off. I also use greenify and it has definitely helped.
I might go a day with my mobile data enabled all day and see what happens. I got into the habit it of toggling my data off about a year ago. The only reasons for me to keep it on would be weather updates and Facebook notifications, neither of which is really important enough to me to have them refresh automatically. I don't use push email or anything like that, either. I suppose it would make a difference for someone who needed instant email notifications and such.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I also keep data off most of the time unless the phone is plugged in, but still, battery just hasn't been the same since the latest firmware update...
I want to update you guys on my battery issue I thought was related to the new firmware. Every rom I had used since the newest firmware release was horrible on battery life. Using battery monitor widget to monitor power usage, I was often seeing over 1000ma usage many times per day.
I recently installed neo's infection 2.9.1 which uses a stock kernel based off Flahalf's work. My extreme battery drain is gone! The highest usage I have seen in 2 days is around 500ma, and normally it is 100ma or less! Not only that but this Rom is smokin fast. It feels like a new phone!
And it fixed wireless tethering! I'm so happy and thankful for the awesome work or devs have been doing. Thanks guys!
Unfortunately for peeps like me who enjoy gaming on their phone, the JB roms aren't all that great. Graphics performance is generally poor....
Maybe you should give it another try. I just played some shadow gun and the performance was fine.
