[Q] GS2 How to completely remove an app...or two - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Recently I just got ICS 4.0.3 LP8 for my galaxy s2. Basically, I forgot that I had homeMyhome.apk app installed, which basically changes the program that launches when i double tap.
So i deleted this (thinking i was then gonna install the app again);
/data/app/com.vlingo.client.samsung-1.apk
and some other folder associated with it (forgot location)
Then I realized, that this in fact deleted the stuff for homeMyhome, and of course vlingo. Now my double tap does nothing, and I cant install the app again because now it says the program is already installed, even thou it doesn't show up in titanium backup, app manger or anywhere I looked.
tldr; I deleted vlingo voice command and want to reinstall it
My question is I was to restart again, so is there a way to completely delete vlingo and then reinstall it, as well as delete everything associated with homeMyhome, for those who are familiar with it - so i can reinstall it.

if you have ROOT you have to download ROOT Uninstaller
it's can delete any App

Progress!
Alright, i just got voice command to work again by installing a cwm zip. Now I need to somehow remove all remenants of homeMyhome so i can reinstall it properly

Weird thing happened after using cooked ROM

So anyways,
I was using dsixda's kitchen to cook VillainROM 5.4 (add & remove a few things here and there).
Wiped data and dalvik prior to flashing and then flashed the ROM which went fine. Upon first boot, phone stuck and white-green htc logo so I took out the battery and rebooted and then it booted fine. Added my gmail account in the setup wizard, connected & synced.
Now this is where weird begins. Somehow, official Facebook app apeared in my app list, and Market was only showing free apps, and it should show all apps. So I went to check /data/app folder and sitting there is com.android.vending.apk. New Market apk that somehow magicaly appeared out of thin air. Also, my Market download list shows all my previously installed apps and among those, Facebook as already installed and with an update available. WTF!?
Can anyone explain to me what just happened? This didn't happen with untouched VillainROM 5.4.
Market is linked with Google account, so could be that?

Sure, but I've never seen Market app auto update itself. What's up with that? It essentially blocks me from having all apps in market.
Okay, I found out what was the problem.
It seems that there's an update to Market app to version 1.713 which silently installs without user approval.
To anyone having trouble with this new version blocking access to paid apps, go to Manage Applications -> Market and select "Uninstall update". After that, remove MarketUpdater.apk from /system/app folder (pull it before doing it, in case something weird happens)

this is not a motoblur device

Hello
I was wondering if anyone could help me. Im using awd lancher and installed an antteck app manager and froze a moto app by mistake, the phone got in to a force close loop which even a restart couldnt fix. I managed to uninstall the app by grabbing time between the forced closes.
Now it says " this is not a motoblur device" when I try to use the moto default home launcher.
I have reinstalled the antteck app which shows no frozen apps.
Would a reset to factory work? My concern is if there is no ADW launcher and motoblur is still not working my phone will not work.
Orange UK rooted on gingerbread stock
Thanks for any help

Which app? The one you froze?

No, a factory reset just wipes the data partition.
A possible solution
If you know how to use ADB, and know where to acquire the ADW.Launcher APK, then you could do this:
NOTE: You may need root to do this. I have no idea, actually.
Copy ADW.Launcher to your ADB folder and rename it to launcher.apk to make things easier later.
Open Command Prompt, and CD to your ADB folder.
Type "adb remount" to mount /system as writeable.
Type "adb push launcher.apk /system/app.
You could possibly get away with pushing it to /data/app, but I've never tried pushing to /data before.
The app I uninstalled was the antteck app manager used to freeze the app.
I cant remember exactly which app I froze. It was one from a list of apps safe to freeze I found on the XDA forum, it wasnt safe. It may well have been the moto home launcher as I was trying to free up ram for the webtop.
I get the problem when I use home switcher to try to launch the original home rather than ADW
I no longer see the moto home launcher in the app list on the app manager.
I could try flashing with the sbf, but being a noob im not ready to do that unless all else fails.
Any help gratefully received

I just renamed blurhome.apk_fro to blurhome.apk in the system/app folder using root explorer and all has been fixed. It would seem that although I reinstalled the antteck app manager it doesn't search for previous frozen items. It also didn't show up in titanium backup either that can be used to freeze apps, not a criticism just an observation.
Thanks for all the help

Glad you learnt something new. =D
And you should find the "safe" list you referred to and tell them its actually NOT safe.
Ill look for the list later...although it might have been a of stupidity and not on the list at all, I tend to do these things late at night

[Q] problem with root/ uninstalling apps

Hello. I'm not very experienced with android and recently got a new z ultra (6802). I think it came with 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 i'm not sure, but as soon as i turned it on i was notified to update to 4.4.4. All went well and one of the first apps i installed was clean master. I hadnt tried to root the phone and i was thinking about it mostly in order to get rid of some preinstalled apps, but i found out that clean master had an option to "deactivate" them so they disappeared and all was fine. The last few weeks i loaded the phone with all sorts of useless stuff i wanted to try, and today i tried rooting it using this tool and everything worked ok. Then i did a hard reset and started setting everything up again... But this time clean master, root app delete and 2 other apps of the same type wouldnt uninstall system apps (despite having root access now). Any ideas on what to do? Is it because of the root - should i try to unroot it? Where can i find these ftfs needed? I saw some in the forum but they are for 6833..

Well, clean master is one of the app I hate most. Killing app processes frequently and clearing app caches are the bad ideas for android devices because android system always try to restart apps everytime you kill. So it greatly reduces battery life. Clearing caches can make apps to start slowly.
That's not the point, right? But just a suggestion not to use task killers and cache cleaner if you have enough RAM and storage space.
Ok now for your problem not uninstalling system apps,
-Install ES File Explorer
-Tap the upper left of the app (three striped shape)
-Tap Tools, Tap Root Explorer (not on the button "On") giving/allowing/authorize root access
-Now Tap Mount R/W and choose every partition as R/W then Tap OK
-Let's get back to explorer, Tap the upper left box labelled as "/" (it will redirect you to root of the Device)
-Go to "system" folder in explorer
-There are two folders in Kitkat, namely "app" and "priv-app"
You can now choose apps to be uninstalled that you couldn't uninstall inside these folders by removing any apps (and .odex files) by Long pressing on apps and choose multi apps at once.
For me, I don't delete apps that I wanted to uninstall but I cut them and create a new folder on sd card and paste them all in that new folder for later needs (you can navigate to internal or external storage from the upper right box of the Explorer, to create new folder, tap on the button with "+" sign at the bottom left corner of the app). Don't delete apps that you don't know well because doing so can prevent your device from booting up.
P.S. You can also install apps as system ones in that reverse way (copy, paste from external to system/app). Remember not to include space in the name of the app you wanted to install as system.
Remember to restart the devices after moving/deleting apps.
I think you now understand how to do. Good Luck, mate.
Thanks for taking the time to help! and es file explorer looks like a really nice app. i followed your instructions and moved some of the apk and matching odex to sd card. the problem is the apps didnt dissapear from the list and as soon as i was done play store was downloading new versions of the apps i moved... what i dont understand is why it worked in the first place when it was new! could it be the sony firmware it came with? since this failed, is there an app to freeze these things?

One thing I left to say that you must restart your device as soon as you finish moving/deleting system apps. After rebooting, the device system will delete app leftovers. It will solve your problem of not disappearing from the list.

I cant install an APP (App not installed)

That's it, I can't install an app (cytus) from the .apk.
If I download it from the google play I can play and every thing else is ok. but I need to use Lucky patcher too unlock things
BUT, the real problem is that I can't install any version of this apk. (I guess when I was reinstalling it from titanium backup it broke some thing, I don't know)
Additional information:
I've already installed it once; I do have space on my phone; I've reinstalled the ROM and even changed to another one but all them are Lollipop 5.1

Lucky patcher is considered warez on XDA and shouldn't be discussed.
Regarding the rest of your question, it sounds like remnants of the app in question are present, therefore resulting in your play store error. Use a file manager to explore your data and system/data folders to see if you can find anything. If you do, delete it and try again.

Hi, I've already did that. Explored the system and trying find something related to the game but I did a full wipe on my phone and there's nothing left(I guess).
I'm able to download it from google play and play the game as usual but I can't install from the apk. And the same APK can be installed on very other phones
Any other tips?
Some one can help please?
Sorry to post for the 3rd time but I'm still having this issue

[Q] How to 'unroot' flashed samsung S5 G900F

Hi all on XDA....
I have recently bought an S5 that, as standard, had loads of bloatware on its standard rom/installation.
To remove it, I rooted the phone using 'CF easy root' through Odin, then put 'TWRP recovery' on and then flashed it with the following ROM -
xXx_NoLimits_6.1.G900FXXS1CQAV (or at least thats what the 'Build Number' states)
Following that I then installed the App from playstore called 'Uninstall' and used this to uninstall all the samsung and vodafone related dross that was draining my battery.
The problem is that I know cannot use Snapchat and more importantly the 'MyEE' app because the phone is rooted. I have tried to 'Unroot' the phone (as I have know deleted all apps that are not needed) so i can use snapchat and MyEE. The problem is, is that I cannot get it to 'Unroot'?
I have tried the 'permanently unroot' option in 'SuperSU' app, I have tried to manually remove the 'root' files using 'ES file explorer' (but it reports that the files I ask it to remove are protected), and I've deleted 'Xpose installer'.... still cant use snapchat or MyEE.
Does anyone know how i can 'unroot' my phone?
Any help is most appreciated.
