Is this how 4g begins?!? - HTC Rezound

So here's my dealio. Last night, noticed my rezound shut off completely and refused to charge. Upon pulling battery and putting it back in, and plugging in charger, got the orange blinking light.. Battery lost all charge apparently :/ on cleanrom DE Btw. Then I was on the way to work and it happened again while plugged into charger in the car. I get to work and get it working, and toggle airplane mode, and BOOM 4g signal. I should probably state that at this point, no one had informed that 4g would be coming anytime soon to Biloxi area so its a welcome addition for me. 18mbps is about 16mbps better than the DSL service I have at home lol! I'm just wondering if I should be worried about the restarts and battery issues, or if its the rom or the tower adjustments?

Phone. Signal would never do that. Maybe do a full wipe and reinstall. Need firmware of course or old patch.

Thanks. Will full wipe/reload OS. Probably going to up to sense 4 now

I had a battery problem where my battery went completely dead and I had to rig the battery up to my dinc to get it to charge enough for my Rezound to even give the blinking light. I think we might have a batch of defective batteries or chargers. I'm on stock so I don't think it's a ROM issue.

There are probably at least two issues going on here. One may be the kernel. The other probably has to do with the recovery you are using. If either of you who are having charging issues is using clockworkmod recovery, there is a well documented charging issue described in a few threads here.
The long & short is that you should flash Amon Ra recovery if you experience the charging issue after a full battery discharge. I understand that some people have had success charging a depleted battery with a separate wall charger.
I have been meaning to test this for a while but have had a busy few weeks recently at work.

was on Amon 3.14 when this issue began. I have since flashed 3.15, as well as wiped roms and installed nilsp business rom to attempt to pinpoint the issue. Also called verizon who stated they are overnighting a phone to me via fedex

Well

Good luck with that ... just please remember that 'new' phones can have dead pixels, broken speakers, or excessive heat problems (i.e., shoots up to 130 degrees simply by letting the initial downloads [built in apps getting updated). Test your refurb VERY carefully before you unlock it.

Have been running the same combo for about a month with the kernel included in the ROM. I run my phone dead all the time and have never run into any charging issues. Is your battery a 3.7 or 3.8 volt?

I agree. Be weary of refurbs. I went through 5 different phones before the Rezound that VZW claimed were "new".

I'm using AR as well. I'm pretty sure I've got the stock kernel too. This isn't really a big deal for me as I usually keep my phone charged and I usually have my dinc around in case I need to bump it.

Its almost as if tech support knows me personally now.. I've been through about 8 thunderbolts for various issues, 3 revolutions, and now I think i'm receiving my 3rd rezound today? First one had miscolored capacative buttons and a bad headphone jack. This one has a loose connector, but at least the colors were good, no dead pixels and no overheating issues. If the next one has any issues whatsoever I'm calling again to complain and get a BNIB replacement device, because I'm tired of receiving everyones old crap

That is the only time I wish I had an iPhone. Each one same as the last. Except the iPad 2, with the major screen bleeding problem.
Apple's quality control is amazing, quality in the Android world is just a goal that can never be achieved.

i'm starting to wonder if i'm gonna have to turn in my rezound. the damn power button is starting to become difficult to push.

You mean like Biloxi ms right? If so. STOKED! You know. Cspire is supposedly getting 4g at the end of the year. You think they will pay to use verizons, even in home area?
Btw I hope CSpire dies a painful death.

Keehee. So I rebooted my phone this morning. Just cuz I hadn't in a couple of days. After booting my data wouldn't come on... So naturally I toggle the radio settings. Hit LTE/CDMA and bam! 4G on the Mississippi gulf coast. Sweeet. It's kinda off and on though. I think they are still working on it

[Q] Phone Battery Level Discretion

I'm having an issue with my phone battery level detection.
It won't charge past 97%. I noticed it lately within the last few days, i would charge my phone, but when i would grab my phone for the day and take it off the charger, it instantly dropped down to as low as 95%. But, when i plug in the AC cable, it says 100% charged.
Anyone have any info about this? Also, i powered the phone down and charged it fully with the AC adapter, and the highest level i got was 97%.
Also, i have seen the phone has a lag issue, gps issue, no word about froyo, and no notification led. Most of those were fine for me, but since i've had the phone, most of the battery has been used for cell stand by even though i've been in areas with excellent reception. And now with this battery level discretion, i'm a little worried about my decision. I only have tomorrow to return the phone and now that idea is gaining more and more weight for me.

1.) I would say exchange your battery (I have never heard on that issue)
2.) There is something called a lag fix.. So search next time..
3.) There is also a GPS fix.. So once, again.. search
Defiantly keep the phone.. Download a ROM called Bionix 1.3 With Lagfix& OC/UV (1.4 will be released tomorrow)
Download a program called SetCPU and OV it to 1.2 (It will make the phone much faster)
Tada, you have what you should of had
download and install rom manager.. install clockworkmod, boot into recovery, wipe battery log..
I know there's a lag fix but why should we need that in the first place? I personally haven't needed a lag fix, but I haven't heard anything from Samsung about fixing it.
Also for the gps, flashing patches is still pretty hit or moss for a lot of people and even then, I've seen a lot of people that have their compassion still messed up. My question is not along the lines of "why isn't Samsung doing more to fix this issue across theory US galaxy s line?"
I mean, I've seen probably 3 official updates to "fix" the gps/compass issue, and the only one I haven't heard about the results is the fascinate. And I haven't heard ANYTHING from T-Mobile about fixing ANY is the issues that the vibrant has, on than "they're working on it".
It's word, if it wast for me reading the new engadget post today polling about people's epic and listing the problems it's facing (which most seem to echo across the galaxy s line) coupled with this battery issue, I wouldn't have second guessed my phone decision. But when o saw this, and my battery, it gave me a bad taste similar to what I faced in the slide community.
I love this phone, don't get me wrong. I'm just worried about Samsung and T-Mobile management calls.

I already have that installed. Would it get rid of my phone rating battery in cell standby or fix the part where I only can charge to 98%?
I'm going to try charging from a computer use to see if it's a charger problem or phone problem.
Edit: I am running JAC's kernel for the past 2 days, I wonder if that has anything to do with the charging discrepancy? Also, I'm not running it overclocked.

If you have such a problem with it then just take it back & quit whining.
All we are trying to do here is make the phone better, Your right you SHOULDNT need a lag fix in the first place.. but apparently YOU do
Like I said about the not charging all the way thing, just take it to your tmobile store & get a new battery.. Not to mention that they actually did say that froyo would be released after G2 witch is going to be sometime next month I beleive
I haven't seen the need for a lag fix myself and sorry is this entire thread sound like a rant/whine-fest. I do love what's been done for the phone in the face of it's adversity. And for the most part, I am pretty optimistic about Samsung/T-Mobile fixing the issues this has. I more just writing it all down at once to get it out if my system.

i see that. i also see that tmobile twittered about an OTA soon and not to flash the JI5. that's really more than i've seen from them about the phone lately, albeit still extremely ambiguous.
Also, i just unplugged my phone from USB computer charging. It charged to 100% but when i unplugged my phone it went back down to 97%. So it's not charger related. I'll be going into tmobile tomorrow and seeing if i can say whether it's the battery or the phone by testing out a different vibrant and charging my battery in there.
Also, i am getting kinda pissed that my phone "appears" to get extremely poor reception. It goes from strong signal to nothing, but still saying tmobile in the same place.

My vibrant has done the same thing once. I thought it was weird. Hasn't done it since though. I really don't care about one or two ticks on the battery guage. I use battery indicator pro though because the built in battery meter sucks.
i use a flashed version of the battery status reader as well as battery indicator. And it doesn't go up to 100% unless i'm using the charger. but once it's off the charger, it drops to 97%.

I went to my local tmobile store, they swapped batteries. They also told me they couldn't do anything since i was out of the 14 day exchange period. The thing is though, i bought the phone outright, and when you do that you have a 30 day return period.
But they also didn't have any vibrants in stock so i had to go to the nearest corporate store. I got there, and they were puzzled as to why i was having an issue, saying that "it lasts for the stated amount of time, so i'll most likely have to charge you a $10 restocking fee" crap. They ended up doing a 1 time courtesy exchange. I'll see how this vibrant goes. I also checked to make sure it wasn't hardware locked (it go into recovery with the volume keys).
I don't think it's a battery issue, as I've seen it quite often. Mine does this sometimes as well but it doesn't really bother me. Someone posted that there was a fix you could do using ADB from the computer, but it was a month or so ago and I'm too lazy to look for it.

well after swapping my battery for a new one and experiencing the same issue, i know it's not battery related. it's phone related. I want my phone to charge fully, not almost fully.

Wifi not working

Hi guys I have a problem I can't seem to solve I never use Wifi as I have no need for it because I'm on unl data but I needed it today for an app well my Wifi doesn't turn on at all it says error I'm not rooted and in rocking an extended battery cover

Have you not tried flashing anything whatsoever and are 100% Gingerbread stock? I saw you asking about the leaked ICS builds. The WiFi "error" message is common when flashing the kernel, have to do it twice to make sure it takes it.

If you are not rooted and 100% stock. then perhaps you set wifi incorrectly.

Very odd it would have those problems fully stock. Did you get it from an authorized seller or Verizon new, or did you get a CLN Verizon replacement or buy it secondhand from elsewhere? Could still be an issue with a bad flash by a previous owner if the latter holds true.
Well I was about to suggest running an .exe version of a Gingerbread RUU from this thread, which should correct any errors, but you'll need to back up all internal SD data and put it back on the phone memory due to wiping. And re-download all your apps and reconfigure all your customizations, etc.
And just to toss it out there, third party extended battery covers may have shoddy antennas or none at all. Suggested you check all connections against the stock backplate layout. Should still not wind up with a straight "error" message that way, though...
if the RUU tidying up the software don't fix it, that may just be straight hardware damage. Killed my WiFi and bluetooth on my iPod touch a while back with some liquid and got the same symptoms.

[Q] Completely dead S2, no response to anything, warranty issues?

I had the phone on and in my hand when it just flickered off. I was in a 3d game but had only been running it for a couple minutes. The battery was reading about 90% before I fired up the game and it was plugged in to a factory samsung charger at the time. The game sort of stuttered a second or so before it shut down, then blank screen and it looked dead. It was slightly warm at the time, but nothing near overheating.
I held down the power button, nothing.
Tried power/volume combinations with no result.
Pried it out of the otterbox case it has been in since I got it and pulled the battery and put it back in, still nothing.
Pulled MicroSD and sim card.
Tried both volumes and plugging it in to USB with and without a battery, nada.
Left it alone and researched online for a bit, battery back in and nothing.
Plugged into a different charger and still nothing.
Seems no matter what I try, no response at all.
Both the phone and battery are cooled off at this point.
Could this be dead battery? Am I going about trying to force it to at least light up without a battery correctly?
At this point I'm at a loss. I can check the local AT&T store and see if they can at least let me test a different battery.
Last night I did flash the latest SHOstock 5.4 ROM, up from his 5.2. The phone ran fine afterward and I shut it down once since the flash without issues. This phone has been rock solid since day one, never dropped, no water damage, always in a case, pristine condition physically. Nothing to cause any trauma. Never even overclocked, but did have it running .25v undervolted at all speeds for a while.
I bought this last November, so it is less than a year old. Insurance is being paid but it is also within one year of purchase. So warranty should still be in effect? However, if it is this dead I can't flash it back to stock for warranty return, so what are my options there? Call it in as a warranty claim and hope for the best?
Edit: just tested the battery with a voltmeter. It is reading 4.1V, not sure if that is too high for a battery that is rated 3.7V or not. I'd guess no, so bad battery theory is likely out, unless it cooked the phone.
<edit> and I'm so frazzled from my beloved phone dying that I posted this to general instead of Q&A. argh.
I wouldn't rule out battery failure. Batteries don't power devices with voltage, and that voltage will only be discernible as an indicator for a very short period of time before it actually dies. You'll need a battery tester to check its actual amperage output, and I'd recommend looking up what it should be, along with its amp hour rating. Wish I had more to offer, but I work with dc backup powered systems, and they're a pain in the ass to catch with a voltmeter.
I777 gets it done, gnex just for fun
Yeah I know what you mean. I once had a car battery fail, read about 12V just fine but didn't put out enough miliamps to power even the dome light.
Taking lunch right now and headed to the retail store in town to see if they have a battery I can swap to test. More worried that I can't return to stock, really can't afford a $400 bill to replace this sucker if they catch that I've flashed it.
Had to drive an hour to the AT&T Device Support Center but its replaced now. I think the tech there was a bit surprised at how dead it was. He was figuring to just run his recovery tools and fix it right up, but got nothing.
Oh well, at least I'm not stuck on my old Tilt 2 running WinMo anymore. Though I do miss my keyboard a little bit.

I don't, man with stock software that thing was ****, I needed 5 different replacements all for different problems. The keyboard was amazing though.

After I got EnergyROM on my Tokyo the software worked as well as could be expected for WinMo. I also had a pretty much fully functional Froyo Android running off the SD card. The microphone finally died on it though, and the cost to replace out of warranty was more than I spent on the GS2.
I forgot how nice having a keyboard was though. Faster and more accurate typing plus you can still see the whole screen. Maybe that captivate glide wouldn't be so bad after all... Lol

If Your Rezound Has Heat/Power Problems

I just want to say that if you have chronically high temperatures and short battery life, you might want to seriously consider that your phone is defective.
I just replaced my Rezound due to an intermittent problem with the touch screen (the problem only occurred when the phone was hot, lol). I was able to port a nandroid of my old device onto the new one, making sure that radio/kernel versions were identical, and all the problems I ever had are completely gone.
I just used the new phone for over an hour. The temperature is under 100F, and my extended battery is at 90% None of this would have been possible with the old device. I'm beginning to count the touchscreen failure that prompted me to make a warranty call as a blessing.
A lot of time and effort have been expended here to deal with this power-sucking heat problem. I don't know if it's something you can configure away, but I don't believe you shouldn't have to. Some people complain that the Rezound is too hot. When others say it's not so hot, I think we just write that off to the fact that everyone uses the phone differently. Well, I'm thinking maybe it really is just your hot phone that's the problem.
I've seen users dump their application list in the search for the culprit. How much time did Scott Crosler spend mixing and matching kernels to find the cause? It had gotten to the point that I wouldn't talk on the damned thing for more than a few minutes because it was uncomfortable to be holding that hot brick up against my head.
There are threads where people compare the hottest temperatures they've observed on their phones. We take for granted that this phone runs hot. Well, it doesn't. Maybe your phone runs hot, but other phones do not.
This is an expensive device. You'll end up paying hundreds of dollars for it by the time your contract runs out. If your phone's running hot, and you've been looking for the source, or if you've resigned yourself to a phone whose use has to be moderated to keep it from getting too hot or running down the battery prematurely, then I'm here to tell you that you might want to swap that sucker out for another one that works right.
I just got my third fix it rezound where people had similar problems. On the most recent phone, it was really slow, I mean really really slow with everything. It was also having a high heat/excessive drain problem. The guy bought two new phones because he wanted something faster. Unfortunately he had rooted his wife's phone against my advice so they were probably identical.
After I received it and saw the phones behavior I understand why he got a new phone.
The first thing I did was s off it, then I flashed a new RUU and did the entire process twice.
That eliminated almost all of the problems, performance wise it was running great. But the battery was shot. It had just suffered way too much temperature abuse. I put a new battery in it and its like a different phone, its rock solid.
I agree with the guy in the first post. If you've been fighting issues like that, and you flash a stock RUU and are still having problems after trying a new battery (as in one that wasn't in your phone back when the firmware was wonky or when you were running mismatched firmware and patching the broken stuff, send that sucker back. Get a replacement, because its an amazing device when its right.

I've had 2 this week and sent them both back. The one I have now is my second one which has a messed up front camera that I got back in February. The first one they sent me earlier this week for over 120 degrees just from charging. That was the first one I experienced with actual heat problems... The second one I got yesterday had a seriously screwed up proximity sensor so I put it back in the mail about an hour later. I sent them an email so we will see what they say I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do, I literally do not have time to worry about a defective phone that I have spent close to 800 dollars on.

You're heat issues sound kernel related. I was able to make my phone behave the same way with a custom kernel.

No the phone I have now has no heat issues. I'm saying the CLN replacement they sent me got super hot just from charging. i sent it back lol. It was completely stock
It was revision A, the second one I got with the proximity issues was an XA, the one I currently have is an XE I got it back in Feb
I don't consider my phone to have heat problems, but others would. It will get to 117-118 on 4g streaming. This has been consistent across both rezounds I've had. If I switch over to wifi, phone doesn't touch 100. I think its just the 4g radio on top of everything else.
Curious to the OP, are these better temps on wifi, 3g or 4g?

Your temps are pretty much normal. Mine will stay around 110 streaming Netflix on 4g which is very good I think. But 120 is supposed to be max but is nothing for this phone

I think it definitely is a hardware rev issue. I've got one of the "good" rev B. phones and I rarely see over 100 degrees in a controlled (indoors) environment no matter how hard I push it. My wife's Rezound is a rev. XA "pink button" phone and it gets hot and does all kinds of crazy things I've never seen on mine.
I should also note mine is overclocked at 1836 while hers is bone stock never even been unlocked.

I am on my third Rezound because of heat issues. I love the phone, but this heat issue has been something a lot of us have been complaining about since the phone came out. Verizon has been good about replacing the phone, but I have lost several batteries because of the heat issue. Once the phone gets to hot, it starts cooking the batteries. At least that was what I told.
I agree that if your phone is overheating, you do want to get it replaced. My third phone heats up when I am watching NFL Redzone. I have not had it overheat like the other phones but it does get quite hot. If I had a complaint about this phone, that would be my one complaint, it gets to hot.

Mine heats up when outside and when using screen at 100, but I live in Florida with temps in the 90s, so I come Indie and cool off. It can do a lot in the heat like for short calls and taking pictures but no angry birds on the beach.

Seems better everywhere. I am doing an apples-to-apples comparison, though. On my home WiFi, the old phone would get up into the 120s with continuous surfing. The replacement phone is almost 20 degrees cooler. It's comfortable to hold, and I'm not constantly wondering if my hand is getting microwaved.
I'm on my second Rezound, and this one gets hot as balls. My original one didn't but I had to get it replaced because the data radio was constantly shutting off due to a botched s-off or it was failing. It will be a year next month that I've had it. I'm probably going to ditch it for one of the Nexus devices soon.
Well VZ sent me some lame email this afternoon apologizing and saying I should get another rezound tomorrow. If this one is messed up I'm taking it to the store and throwing it at someone.
Just out of curiosity what exactly was the touch screen issue you had?
I've felt that when mine get warm/hot the touch screen is either less responsive or inaccurately processes the touch to a different location on the screen.
Is this the problem you (and apparently others) are experiencing?
I guess I'll have to see if I'm still covered to get my four replacement b/c otherwise I really love this phone (as long as I don't go to far from a power source).
A (rezondingly confused) bug

Bricked HTC One

So my phone died.
Not by flashing. Not by rooting. Not by anything. I plugged it in on thursday with about 3% battery remaining, and next thing I know I am late for class because the phone died in middle of the night sometime. I was running a CM10.1 nightly. It was buttery smooth and honestly felt better for the phone than sense did. So I had no quarrel.
Now it wont boot, no LED, no capacitive buttons, no adb, no recognition, no nothing. I assume myself as a veteran of android and its capabilities (including how incredibly difficult one actually is to brick) and I have never seen something like this.
If your phone has done this, say so.
I want to hear stories and isolate the incident. If you have any ideas, share them.
Im a little ticked because I really liked this phone and its a ****ty way to have it go.
Stab in the dark but could it possibly be dead and your charger didn't charge it. Never heard of a situation like this and I've done some strange things to my phones. Possible or battery is so dead is why u can't power up. Try a different charger on it for a couple hours and try again.
Edit, when u have it plugged in to a charger does the led glow red ?

SOLVED: Phone refuses to power on
Its probably your charger

Not the charger. I've tried all cables in the house.
Some how your not getting juice I'd just keep it plugged into a different one for a couple hours. Is there any way it could have gotten wet? Sucks if its bricked

Never heard of something like this.. hope it isn't actually bricked man. Good luck!

But have you tried another charger?
Cable does not equal charger.
You can't count on an aftermarket charger or cable either. I've seen strange things with stuff that didn't come with the phone.

I actually had the same thing happen to my Galaxy Note I. It just died completely one day when it was sitting on my desk with no previous issues. But it was already year old by that time.
I hope it works out. Since it's a new phone, at least you've got the warranty.
other people have posted about this issue in the international thread. but as far as i know after letting it charge a while they all came back on and they all said no charging light when plugged in
a lot of the people with this problem were also running cm10.1
