Samsung ICS Update Schedule for Canada - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Just ran across this article over at Mobile Syrup:
http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/04/30/s...p+(mobilesyrup.com)&utm_content=Google+Reader
Samsung is pushing out the Android 4.0 ICS update for selected devices starting today. It is unclear whether this means it is pushing it directly to devices or just to the carriers. Either way, I see light at the end of the ICS tunnel.
Edit: Update to the article says that Samsung is now saying the update will be out this week, instead of today.
UPDATE (May 8): Telus has now posted their ICS upgrade schedule. They show their version of the Note as getting an ICS upgrade in June. (http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/05/08/t..._campaign=Feed:+Mobilesyrup+(mobilesyrup.com)) http://www.telusmobility.com/pv_obj...lename/Device_OS_Upgrade_schedule-May-3rd.pdf

Because in the end, it's not up to them when each carrier will release it. All they can tell you is they gave their version of ICS to each carrier to add their bloatware and crap to it.

too bad I won't get the update

@poLaRBe4r ben pourquoi?
Hey guys, a list of dates was actually leaked on the internet with the actual days for ICS. I'm browsing around looking for it again will update as soon as I find it.

Not to be difficult .. but the original press release from Samsung (upon which all these stories were written) said ..
Samsung PR said:
"..MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 30, 2012 /CNW/ - Samsung Electronics Canada is pleased to announce the availability of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) software upgrade for Samsung GALAXY devices. The upgrade will be available today on select devices in Canada and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter.

Now.. your point stands.. select devices could mean as few as ONE devices on ONE carrier yesterday.. who knows.
But the press release said today... not later this week. Personally, I think this is bad PR overall. But that's my opinion.
Then.. much later in the day.. after much of this thread had been written and got all stirred up... MobileSyrup contacted someone (it's vague who) at Samsung and got the "later this week" verbiage.. even tho the original press release was never corrected or re-released with corrected wording. MS just added an "Updated" tag on their original story.
Just stupid PR people IMHO.

You have been told wrong the processor that was built with/for ICS is the one in the samsung galaxy nexus by Texas instruments our Snapdragon chip was the fast cheaper solution for samsung when they discovered the Exynos chip was not good with LTE data they could have gone with the TI chip but it would have cost them double wich saves you from paying $
400 on contract $800 off the chip in the LTE version is not that bad ICS will speed it up but not as much as it will for the other mentioned chips
Our phones will fly once the Devs get them and put out some great ROMs
Right on thanks

Boy you know that's a good question I've never thought about! Maybe when Samsung open sources it, the devs can extract the necessary framework and bake it in? Seems like it would be a HUGE miss if they didn't.

If I'm not mistaken, there has already been a leaked ics built from the international note. Cm9 teams will probably just use the spen stuff from there. If Sammy doesn't release ics AT&T built, then I'm sure they can use the international spen stuff. The only difference (I think) is the physical button color change.

It does not, the ics available for the t989 is from a leak from the skyrocket. Due to that there was issues with rotation which were fixed but there is still missing features like wifi calling, and a kernel to develop cm9 etc from that.

We are working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules for our smartphones and will have more to share very soon. For all of our latest ICS news stay tuned to our blog: http://bit.ly/yTJiXX
Not date yet. We'll let you know if we learn more.
I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. I have a feeling T-Mobile is holding off on the update so the One S can have the spotlight for another month. They probably figured that people would buy it since Ice Cream Sandwich is a big selling point.

These two tie in together. HTC wants to nail down an update schedule that the One S will have ICS for a while, gathering in sales, while the other phones will have to wait. Also, T-Mobile stores list our phone as 1.5 ghz dual-core, they don't really specify that it's produced by Snapdragon or that it is an S3. Clearly, it would look bad that the One S and the Amaze have the same specs in a simpler manner, without going into specifics.
Some of you folks act like your phone is broke or completely ancient because it isn't rocking the current OS.
There is a leak for ICS, so what is the problem? If you want it so bad, download it and be on your merrily happy way. If not, go spend monies you probably don't have on a device that runs on it. Complaining over and over on something you can't control is beyond rhetorical.
Not like T-Mobile has ever been fast with the updates. This is nothing new......be glad if it comes out in June.

My Amaze (bought in December) has multiple issues that have not been resolved on three separate handsets, and half a dozen factory resets. I'm not "whining" about not getting ICS sooner, I'm whining about not getting FIXES after way too long a wait.
The last word I've heard was, "we're working on a fix," "HTC is aware of the problem," while I continue to wait, and wait, and wait. Like the poor refugees in CASABLANCA
I'm willing to wait longer for solid fixes, and (crosses fingers) a replacement of Sense 3.0 with the much-improved 4.0. Frankly, I've gotten tired of factory resets and handset replacements that flush my progress and scores from games that I've paid for. It's not a requirement that my games are intact on a phone, but jeez, it got old after 12 weeks of ownership of this top-tier phone to be told, "don't install any apps, just use the phone as shipped."
I just feel that I've been made to wait through serial postponements while HTC and T-Mobile trumpet a newer, slightly better line of phones. Clearly, people who've already bought an HTC don't get as much respect or thought than the new customers out there. S'okay, if the ICS update arrives and doesn't fix the problems, I'll know what to do. Root, flash, or flip and get another brand. T'is a pity that modern manufacturers would rather disappoint their established customers while trying to attract new customers. It's a model that has destroyed many companies in the past.

Anyone getting a Galaxy SIII this week?

I'm curious if anyone here will be grabbing the GS3 later this week when it's released? I'm not up for resigning until later this year but honestly am very interested in getting one.. Obviously the specs are not up to the international version but still higher then out GS2s...
Also hoping the Devs here on our forum are going GS3, loved their work and I have a feeling we're going to need them to do to the GS3 what they did for our GS2s, get rid of the bloatware and find ways to improve battery life for starters

HTC confirms the update "5 Sense" for its older models

Sense 5 will be available on older models. HTC has confirmed the information via his Facebook page. For the moment no "roadmap" official has been issued, only a small non-exhaustive list is available.
"HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the coming months, including variants of HTC One X One X +, One S & HTC Butterfly. However, note that certain features of the new HTC One will not be available in software updates for hardware compatibility reasons ".
The Droid DNA isn't on this list of 4 smartphones, but if the Butterfly will get the update, so it wouldn't be for technical reasons if the Droid DNA wouldn't get it...Normally it will also...

This is the reason I left HTC to begin with... The promising of updates that never happen... Verizon shares some of the blame for the delays, but ultimately it's up to HTC to deliver quality builds to the carriers.. Precisely why I look at the possible dev community rather than what I think the carrier will offer down the road when I purchase a phone. I bought the DNA in full confidence that there would be many great devs supporting it, and I was right. Really enjoying my phone so far.
As for my friend, he bought an LG Spectrum even though he knew I was pretty knowledgeable and could have given him better suggestions. Now he's begging me to root it for him... but for what, there's no development for it at all lol.

you might want to go check over on android forums. There is plenty of development. In fact, AOKP and CM 10.1 both are nearing official support thanks to the devs over there. The Spec was a great phone while I had it.

I looked quite a few times and even by the time I bought my DNA, they still didn't have anything concrete. Just took a look too and this all looks like recent dev for it. Agreed though, the specs did look good, but LG messed it up pretty bad.
Either way, good to see that it's finally getting some attention and I can offer him some relief when we see each other in a few months - hopefully they have a stable CM10.1 by then

LG devices are notorious for their poor development. They're usually budget phones (with the Optimus line being an obvious exception).
HTC confirmed via their Facebook page to my question about ICS on the Thunderbolt that it was "coming soon" back in June of 2012. When did it arrive? December? Better late than never I suppose but I wouldn't hold your breath...

Jelly bean is coming tomorrow

Android 4.1.2 starts rolling out to the Optimus G on 4/4/13.
Build number - JZO54K
Software version - E97020j
Kernel - 3.4.0
Baseband Version - APQ8064/MDM9x15M

You'll just have to wait until tonight/tomorrow to see the roll out yourself or for someone else to post a picture.
I am a firm believer in the pics or it didn't happen rule but you can choose to believe me or not, but I'm not posting a picture someone else can do that especially with how they monitor us employees.
Also you may see posts like this all the time but they never include the baseband kernel software version or anything like that.

Okay, saying this does happen....what's the over/under on how long it takes for people to complain that it's not 4.2.2? :silly:
One little question if I may...if you're an AT&T employee, how come your profile shows you as a Verizon user? Just curious...
Because I worked for Verizon and am grandfathered on unlimited data and they offer LTE in my area and AT&T won't until Q1 2014.

Wow. Only four months later than promised. AT&T is stepping it up!
Thanks for the info, bloodiedwraith. Your info sounds credible to me, and it's not like you have anything to gain by lying.
I just updated this morning, and am now sitting on 4.1.2. I'm on the West Coast, and on ATT.
