So I wish to keep all my media, ie photos and music on my EXTERNAL SD Card only, and all my apps etc on the phone itself, how do I set it up, so that when I connect to the computer it only mounts the external storage, ie the sd card, and to make the camera save all photos to the sd card, not the internal.
I'm on Hydrogen 4.0.4 btw.

If you are on aokp/aosp roms, you have to read and understand the problems in " sd card mountpoint" issue much more.
to save all the photos in external sd either you have to use ics camera from market or switch the storage location in "Storage" settings menu.
to mount both the cards on pc use the attached tool

What I wanted to ask was, with that prorgram, is there a way to make it so it replaces the stock usb connection, and so It only mounts the external sd not the internal?
And how do I navigate in apps, ie power amp to my external sd.

You can navigate your external SD just the usual way, select the music folders from "emmc" in power amp , it will show up in albums . There is no regular way to mount only the external. Both has different names when mounted, so you can differentiate easily.

Ah thank-you very much. You're a life saver. One last question. Is there anyway to disable the default android USB pop up screen when you plug In the usb?
I'd like to make it so when I plug into into usb the clock app runs.

I'd like to use my SDcard to store data (camera, games installs and so on) since my SDcard seems to be faster (at least when I transfer via USB, I can write up to 10MB/sec instead of 5MB/sec on the internal memory), and if one of them has to die because of too many write cycles, I'd be much happier if it was my easily replaceable SD card.

Thanks, that's a start, although I was looking for a more radical way (like make the /sdcard/ folder point to my sdcard) so that every app would use it. But I didn't know about the camera settings so I'll definitely use it for now !

Once connected, click on your phone on the left hand column and there should be a radio button to change from 'use internal memory' to 'use sd card'
(Haven't tried this myself so not sure if it works!)

Thanks for this post, it allowed me to buy this phone, I only like using the SD as default storage and I was scared I wouldn't be able to.
This is actually wrong... You cannot change the default storage sadly... I hope they change this is a future update.

Okay, first of all, I have done a lot of search on this topic over various forums and google. Some topic pops up occasionally, but never got answered, strange...
Basically I am trying to figure out two things:
1. How to move apps to microSD card? Not a single definitive answer or tutorial would allow me to move apps to external SD card. I've tried app2sd, link2sd also the stock CM7 application manager, which all of them would only allow to move apps to internal storage of the phone which is called SD card for Galaxy SII. Also the microsd card is under the diretory of mnt/emmc. Some other tutorials suggesting moving game data over /sdcard/external_sd/, I tried as well, but my microSD's storage doens't go down so I assume the data is still on internal SD card.
2. How to enable apps to save user data automatically on micro sd card? For example, I have lots of camera apps, which automatically save photos that I took on /sdcard/DCIM, I want them to be on my micro SD card AUTOMATICALLY, is there a way of doing this?

I cannot see much reason to move apps to external sd card with a sgs2, that is something for inferior phones , there is a lot of space on application storage and internal sd card for that.
Most people are fine by just moving media files to the external card.

how about my second question, i shot a lot of photos and hd videos daily, i know i can manully move them to external, but that Kinda make my gallery look clustered if you know what i mean.
Have you tried doin it internally via your phone:settings-applications-running services.On the top left touch on "downloaded" and all your downloaded apps will appear.Touch on whatever app you like and you will get the option to move,uninstall or clear data.Remember that not all downloaded apps are able to be moved to external sd and if the app you would like to move is unmovable by default then you will see that.
The problem is Android only likes one sd card. So when you have an internal SD card like the sg2 the system doesn't take advantage of your external sd card.

You can change storage area in camera settings (with stock camera app).
Ok so I have a 32gb s3. And a 32gb class 10 micro sd.
My question is:
What should I save on the internal memory and what should I save on the micro sd? Just curious

I would store all of your apps on internal memory, and any large files on the microSD card. That way your apps are accessing fast internal NAND flash, and your large files are portable on the micro SD in case you need to move them.
^^ always a good policy. Music, movies, rom files, etc.. have always had their place on the external card. However, with the 32GB internal storage, you may find yourself moving more stuff to internal storage as it becomes more an issue of portability than memory management.
IMO apps should definitely stay in phone memory so that they load more quickly and work with the external SD card removed (when sharing files or moving stuff around).
I would advise that pictures be kept in internal storage because of the generally higher failure rate of external cards. We've had corrupted cards sweep across the first Galaxy S device, and a lot of people lost a lot of data this way. I've had all my internal/external files backed up to 3 cloud storage solutions ever since, using this awesome app: FolderSync.
It may not be a bad idea to occasionally back up important files (like pictures and documents) to the external storage.

Apps can no longer be stored on external storage. Thanks to Google, they coded android to only allow apps access to internal storage, even with apps such as apps 2 sd it is no longer possible. If you root, you will have to move your titanium backup file over to external sd card, and then go under preferences in TB and change the default location. The new cwm will still write to your sd card but that's it. Your very lucky to have gotten the 32gb model, because 16gb could be filled up if your a gamer because of how much data modern games store. You will have to manually move music, movies, and any other large files to your external card. There is a very long thread about this in the international models forum. Also, I believe there's an app that can move game data to the sd card, you have to be rooted & you will find the link to it in the forum that discusses this issue. I hope this makes some sense to you, it's kind of odd & it took me about a week to even discover it.

If your phone has an sd card in it, the first time you use the camera app it will ask you if you want to store photos on your sdcard or extsdcard, choose extsdcard & they will be on your external sd card in a folder called dcim. Only apps that are preloaded on the phone are allowed access to the external storage to write. If/when cyanogen mod comes to our phone, then apps will be able to be stored on extsdcard as usual because cm is built from source, and they have recoded(I guess that's how u would say it) this area of the Android system. So... Stored on extsdcard.... Then pics will be safe, hope I've helped.

You can actually us the stock app called "my files" or a number of third party apps. I use my files or sometimes esFile explorer. Just long press the file you'd like to move and from the list that pops up select copy, cut, or move. Then go to the area you want to the file in & if using esFile explorer touch the button at the top of the screen that says paste, or if using my files press the button at the top that says done. Hope I've helped ya out....
Does anyone know how to (or if we can) install apps to the external SD card? Lately I've been getting the "not enough storage" alert when trying to install new or update apps. So then I have to look for crap to delete. By default the apps install to internal storage. When I use TiBackup to move apps to the SD, it moves them to phone storage (internal SD), not the external SD. Anyone?

I'm not entirely sure. I know that HTC changed the name of the eMMC and SD card on this phone to 'sdcard' and 'sdcard2' respectively. A lot of apps don't realize the change and think the eMMC is the actual external SD card. The only ones which definitely realize it are the HTC ones.
I don't know if your ROM has it set up differently or not, but the stock ROM is that way.
I thought the whole 'sdcard' naming thing was an ICS issue...
Go to Settings >Apps, select the app you want to move, then pick Move To Phone Storage. You have to do this for each app.

Rovio's Bad Piggies came out the other day. It's a moderately intriguing game, which is relevant because its default apk save location is the SD card. Unfortunately for our phone, it thinks the internal eMMC is the actual SD card because of the poor naming convention, regardless whether ICS itself or HTC is the actual culprit. It's save location is '/sdcard/.android_secure/com.rovio.BadPiggies-1.asec'.
I also installed this game on my original Incredible, and it's path name is the same, but it's saved on the actual SD card because it followed normal naming convention. If I move it to the internal storage, it saves in '/data/app/com.rovio.BadPiggies-1.apk'.
Our phone switches between 'Move to phone storage' ('/sdcard/.android_secure/' which is the eMMC) and 'Move to internal storage' (/data/app/).
My original Incredible switches between 'Move to SD card' ('/sdcard/.android_secure/' which is the real SD card) and 'Move to phone' (/data/app/).
Like dezignstuff said, you would normally have to go to Settings -> Apps, and select each app you want to move and tell it to 'Move to phone storage'. Since you're using Titanium Backup to move to move apps to the SD card, it does it all in one fell swoop.
Now, to answer your question again once again, the naming convention is the reason you're seeing it install in the mount named 'sdcard' but it's actually the eMMC. After some investigation, it's definitely ICS. Several other brands of devices all have "sdcard" and "sdcard2". Regardless of who's at fault, it's still ridiculous. I understand that most devices starting with ICS don't have an actual SD card slot to expand the storage, but ICS should implement a way to move to the real SD card if you have one. Our phone, with its 4GB of available space, isn't that much when you have hundreds of pictures, videos, music files, and apps. I won't ever buy a phone without expandable memory unless it's priced similarly to this one with at least 64GB of space.
It was a change by Google. It occurs in Jelly Bean as well.

n the acer a100 there was a way to change the mount points and they called the sd2 the sd and the sd the sd2 with a shell script.
then you simply used some app to move all your apps from the fake to the real sd card

Somewhere, I saw a way to remap the drives once rooted. I haven't really looked into it, but plan to pursue it as soon as we have root.

I think the Nook Color went through this when they were starting with CM9. I'll keep searching and see if I can find anything, it's been a while since I've seen anything about it but I'll keep looking.
Well I love my DNA, love everything except the shortage of storage. I though heck, thats enough storage for me, boy was I wrong...lol
So my question for you guys, do you use the cloud to save excess data and/or can we use usb sticks/thumbdrives to hook up to our phones to gain extra access to data, like music and video data that takes so much room on the internal sdcards.
You can use an OTG (on the go) cable to connect a USB memory or even connect an SD card. Don't know if it works right out the box or if you need to be rooted, but it's possible.

Thanks man, that actually solves all my storage issues, thanks for taking the time to enlighten me.
I use usb otg helper to mount my micro sd card for additional storage. It also makes it easy to transfer files between phones/pcs. I can even back up directly to external sd via clockwork mod. Just mount it in recovery and then you can flash/restore/backup without having the files on your phone.
I use spotify for music, I purge my download folder every once in a while, and I only keep one nandroid backup at at time. I have no issues with storage.

For music you could use Google music, and use drive for your other stuff, such as files. Saves a lot of storage for me when you have over 1500 songs.
