So I inherited this wonderful phone not knowing anything about it. Basically I wanted to put ICS on it but I can't...
- Computers do not detect it via USB when plugged in now (it did before). It does charge perfectly though so it's not a connection issue
- Can connect to KIES via Wi-Fi
- Download mode gets stuck. It just says Downloading... and stays there
The phone was originally Bell Canada but it's unlocked and works with my Rogers SIM.

The phone actually runs fine and all the regular cellular services work just fine. I just can update it to ICS or connect it to a computer USB (to transfer files etc. or do whatever).
What can I do to correct this? Or is this thing stuck on this OS version and the way it is forever?

I'd like to add that in upload mode the custom binary count is set to 1. I think whoever unlocked it before did a doozy on it

First try to flash some official ROM from SamMobile for your Country/Carrier with Kies support.

This is definitely not what it should be.
Try *#272*Your IMEI#. You can find IMEI in phone status. This should allow you to reset CSC to ZTO in your case.
WARNING! This will full wipe your phone!

This is exactly the same situation I had on my phone. You need to restore your CSC folder and then to reset CSC.
I did not find any universal method, how to do that. I have tried several samsung ROMs to try the one that helped me.
Maybe one of these http://androidfirmwares.net/PhoneFirmware marked with ZTO would help you, but I cannot guarantee.
You need to find such ROM that would allow you to use *#272*Your IMEI# successfully to restore CSC to ZTO.
Or if you have a friend with SGS2 running rooted Samsung stock ROM from the same operator, you can restore /system/CSC folder from his/her phone. But I did not test this way.

I need some help. I have been searching forums all day trying to find a solution to my problem, but I'm just getting more confused. So please, if there is someone out there that can help, I would be grateful.
Bit of background. Yesterday, my phone was working correctly and when I went to make a call later in the day I had no network. When I tried to check the network settings, it stated "Insert SIM card to access network services".
When I checked Settings>About device the Baseband version is listed at "Unknown"
I read somewhere to try *#06#, which I did and it shows IMEI/MEID "null / null"
My phone is a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 on UK Vodafone network, the rest of the phone info is as follows:

4. I have also tried my SIM card in my misses GT-I9100 and it works fine, so it's a handset issue.
I am at a loss of what else to try.
Can ANYONE help me, please!!!

If you've never 'messed with' the phone (rooted it or run non-stock firmware), send it in for warranty service if your warranty is still good. Trying something that could potentially bork that warranty & end up costing you money isn't worth it, and there's a fair chance they wouldn't work anyway unless you had an EFS backup which you wouldn't have if you've never rooted your phone.

The rom you linked to is the older leaked pre-public version of Sammy JB. You should try flashing the latest final public version from here.
You need to flash another modem ... Tell me if it works or not

Hello guys i have a big problem i deleted the efs backup folder and now i am on 4.0.4 stock nordic and i have a wrong imei,i am making all wipes and after that the phone begins normaly but when it's open it doesn't show the tutorial when you begin your android for first time after restore,my sim card doesn't works no pin asked and everything that has to do with the sim doesn't work,the power button when you press it more than 1 sec. the phone turns off(no boot menu shown)and the lock screen doesn't works,the phone as a tablet works fine but not as a cell phone,

so the kernel says to me, you arent rooted or are you ?
did you try a firmware from sammobile ?
get a firmware from sammobile and connect your phone via usb and go to download mode
flash it via Odin3 v3.04, drop the one file to PDA
I am rooted and the firmware i am using is 4.0.4 nordic.

the problem i am having is that i am not recieving a data connection at all i can make calls and recieve calls and send messages etc
just no data at all
WiFi is working ok
i have checked the APN settings and they are correct
although in the preffered network list there is no vodafone uk PLMN code i have tried to add it and it add to list but nothing then disapears on reboot

i have installed CWM Recovery and backed up the stock ROM (learnt from previous mistake) i have tried to flash the smartstayv4.zip CWM Rom but got stuck at boot so back to stock anyone know how to fix the data problem or suggest a ROM / baseband that may help me

Ok so i have tried a few diffrent sims in the phone and
three uk works with full h+
orangeworks with h+
o2 works with edge
but still nothing on my vodafone sim (its contracted so i cant change)
anyone have any suggestions before i sell the phone ?

I have a blank IMEI. I was running CM 12.1 and then I went back to the stock ROM thinking that would work. I tried to get into the service mode via the keypad but it's blank. I do not have the proper cables to connect my phone to my PC.
