[Q] Problem w/Media server - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

After trying out the original ics leak and Alpha 2, I went back to GB, mainly due to problems with my camera and gallery app. Yesterday, I jumped on board again with the Hybrid, but am experiencing the same problems. Launching the camera app or voice recorder will launch the media scanner, than it will fc. Since Media server is #1 on battery usage, I want to know what I can do to fix it.
After googling for a solution, the closest explanation I found was that I had some corrupt files on my phone. I always do factory/cache/dalvik wipes before flashing via CWM. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be this way, but after the wipes, all the data on the internal sd is still there.
Any advise will be appreciated.

camcorder force closes and doesnt record videos?!

Ever since day one my photon has always has issues with the camcorder, it either force closes or seems to work fine until i try to play back the video and it says something along the lines of "Cannot display or view this video file" I have it mounted to store on my internal storage however i have tried to have it store on SD card as well and it seems to make no difference whatsoever. Any ideas? Id rather not have to reset entire phone if not needed, im stock rom rooted and have the 8-point multitouch mod(just did today) Mind you this issue with camcorder has been around since day one with my phone, nearly a month ago. Just now is starting to truly annoy me and i would like to fix it if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks

[Q] Camera, playing music, etc

Hello.
I've had my Motorola [Electrify] for about a year now, and a few months after getting it, started having problems with the camera, playing music, and not receiving notification sounds. For the camera, I it would look as though it was starting, and then go back to the home screen with a flash saying "Camera cannot initialize." (or something to that effect.) When I would try to play music, it would stop and say "Sorry, the play does not support this type of audio format." It was MP3. And I would sometimes not receive notification sounds. I have been researching and battling this issue for months when suddenly yesterday, I read that for people whose camera wouldnt work, they went into the main settings and clear data for the camera, and the gallery. It worked. Camera worked and so did playing mp3s. Well, today it started not working again. This time I only cleared data for the gallery, and again everything worked like it should. I did root the phone several months ago, using Photon Torpedo. First, I wonder if using that method, if I may have messed something up. Anyone hear of this sort of thing? But then again, I am sure I had problems with this before I rooted. Second, I wonder if anyone knows a specific correlation between malfunctions and the gallery app. Third, would freezing the gallery app with Titanium Backup cripple functionality of the phone/media, and would it work to keep these malfunctions from happening?
Sorry for being long winded, but hoping I'm on to something here.
Thank you.
I posted that a few days ago, but in a different forum, (wrong phone forum) but now today I find out that clearing data in gallery was only a temporary fix, as today it did not work. This is the second or third time I thought I found a connection, but was wrong. Does anyone else have this problem and come up with an actual fix? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the root cause of this problem is. Thank you.
I haven't heard of it. Have you tried a factory reset?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
Wifes photon doing exactly same thing. what apps you have installed. maybe we can narrow it down. I did a factory reset, flashed a different rom, then installed all her apps back on. worked correctly for 3 days then no notification sounds, camera wont open and can t veiw videos on facebook or youtube. reboot the phone and all is well for a few days then the problem comes back.

Camera crash / freeze during in-app video

Hi All,
Long time reader of the forum, finally registered an account.
I'm having an issue wherein the camera freezes and crashes while taking video in apps. Video works fine while recording using the camera app. I've noticed this while using the messaging app and vine. In vine the video starts recording for about .5 seconds before crashing.
I am rooted and using AOKP JB rom (latest). I would have posted in that forum but I'm not allowed since it's a new account (you guys are serious here). I've searched that forum, found a few related posts but no resolution. I have fully wiped, I have cleared app data. I think its a problem with a ROM or Kernel itself. Actually seems like a buffer issue since the video records briefly before crashing but who knows.
If anyone has had a similar issue maybe with another ROM let me know. thanks.
No one else has had this problem??
If there was another topic let me know, I've searched heavily but maybe I've missed it.
I'm just trying to determine if this is hardware or software (or kernel/ROM).
Can anyone confirm that they are NOT having this issue and let me know what software you're running?
Thanks.
The most reliable test of whether your problem is hardware or firmware related is to flash back to stock and try the video in the stock camera. You can make a nandroid backup and restore it afterwards to get back to where you are now.
On the stock GB ROM the camera works in SMS but malfunctions in some apps.
I just flashed the official JB ROM from samsung and everything works perfectly, so definitely software.
same issue here, for vine, snapchat, instagram.
Similar issue here, with a Samsung Galaxy 2 (SGH-T989D) running JB 4.1.2 with the official JB update, rooted.
Camera will work for 20-30 seconds and then the in-app video preview will freeze and the only way to get the camera to work again is to reboot. There is no zombie Camera process to kill. Fixing permissions doesn't help. Doesn't matter which app tries to access the camera, they all fail.
I've tried the diagnostics test (*#0*#) and have been able to determine that it's only the rear facing camera that fails, the front facing camera always works fine.
I tried various camera firmware versions (using the "Camera Firmware Standard" screen, *#34971539#), currently running version SEEH05. Other versions either didn't work at all or would perform equally poorly.
I thought it might be an SD card problem,
But after removing the external SD card, the camera performed even worse (crashed even faster).
On the other hand the phone is still under warranty from Telus, so I'm considering flashing back the unrooted ROM and returning it for repairs, unless someone can suggest something else to try.
Running PAC ROM (22.0 i think) from the ported development section and have the same issue with the rear camera but the front camera seems to work OK most of the time for Snapchat and such. A while back I tried one of the separate 4.2.2 camera APK's that's floating on this site and had the same issue still.
Has anyone tried the new leaked 4.3 camera to see if that works better/worse?
Not sure if this would work or not, but you could probably try.
Clear out all current videos and pictures on internal sd card(of course after taking backup), wipe/reset and then do a fresh rom install.

[Q] Can't Switch Between Front and Back Camera on HTC First

So, when I first got my HTC First, everything was working just fine, specifically the camera. But a while ago my camera stopped showing the button to switch between the front and back camera. I've Googled my life away trying to find a fix for this, only finding results for the HTC One M8. I've tried clearing the cache for the camera app (though there is no 'Camera' app, it just says 'Gallery' when I open the camera's app details.) Has anyone else experienced this, or come up with any fixes for it? By the way i'm rooted on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ROM and CWM Recovery if any of that helps. Though, this problem started long before I rooted my device.
Tried another camera app?
I have, i've tried a couple other camera apps, but recently I decided to clean up some space. Then I rebooted my device and it seems to work now, though it still goes out every once in a while. It seems like it was just a matter of space available on my internal SD for some reason. My best guess is it's a RAM issue.

[Q] Slow phone

Hi all,
This is my first post on the forum!
I have a XT910 bought in Nov 2011. The phone is from Asia Region. I faced the well known SMS issue on this device on Asia Retail 4.0.4. Initially there was no problem but later it just randomly started. Fed up I rooted the device and flashed the EU JB Official ROM from this forum. Later on I have since installed Cyanogenmod (using Safestrap and done a dual boot with my stock ROM intact). The problem I face these days is that the phone is too slow / sluggish / unresponsive at times and it really drives me crazy. The problem occurs usually when I open some heavy app like Chrome or do some "new" activity .. like a new app installed and configured etc. The thing is this slowness is visible in both the stock / cyanogen mod. I have been on CM10.2 to 12.1 now but the problem exists always. I have done multiple reflashes / formats for CM as well as factory resets for the stock ROM but the issue does eventually crop up after a few days. I have observed the following though using various tools:
1. RAM usage is almost touching 85%+ but rarely do I have less than 50MB of RAM left.
2. Processor also seems to be okay
3. The I/O on the disk is too high tough. Sometimes I have seen GB of data "written" just when opening a blank chrome window (using System Monitor Lite). I wonder if my on board flash memory is to blame? I also have an external class 10 16GB SD card, though removing this doesn't seem to give any performance boosts.
I have been facing this problem almost since I moved to the EU JB ROM about 1.5 yrs back, though I must say the Asia Retail ICS wasn't really fast either.
What are your opinions / troubleshooting hints that I can follow or do you think the phone is plain simple too old and really needs to be replaced?
Thanks.

Hello again guys..
100+ views but no replies!!!
Any help will be appreciated Thanks.
Installed the monitor. That monitor app reports estimated transfer speed not amount data transferred. I.e. installing chrome is done at about 790kb/s. Since I don't have the paid version I cannot see how much it takes to open chrome. At least you know that it is not heat forcing your processor to throttle.
Doing RSD can be a better approach. And then factory reset WITH internal sdcard deletion. Just in case you have bad file system.
You explain in the post that first rooted then installed EU ROM over an asian phone. I don't think it would have worked but if it did, maybe rom is not working well with your kernel. Do a Rsd or flash the corresponding kernel. Second choice have gave me troubles before, so be ready to rsd.
Minimal installation of gapps. Avoiding heavy launchers like aviate. Using .nomedia files to disable media search in certain folders.
Not messing with ad blockers or location services or permissions for a while. Also ohmster had an interesting post in cm11 thread about what he does to get a better experience.
