Ics on galaxy note i717 (bell canada) on may 30 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

i've just give a call at bell and they said me that the update will be push to our device may 30... that sucks

Do you assume the Bell person knew what he was talking about? Also, "by the end of May" could actually mean "sometime in May".

yes, he was asking me for wich device and the serial number. i'm pretty sure those asshole will push it at the end of may.

Front line support in most organizations usually aren't given release dates for anything. In most cases, they know just about as much as we do.

i'm giving another call, just to know if he will tell me the same date

DO IT! Let us know! !

Front-line operator sees the release note "Sometime in May", tells guy on the phone "May 30" to get him off his back.

Do you mean between now and 15 days? I.e., sometime in the next 2 weeks?
Thanks!

I'm glad you have the balls to call bell. For me they are too annoying to call and will cause my head to explode LOL. I know I saw a document somewhere showing that our update was may 12, it showed an huge massive update list for tablets, phones etc for canadian carriers. I regret not saving it for you all...

So that means that the update will get pushed wireless l. Through our 3g? Or we get a text from bell and then we plug it on the computer? How does it work

I have mine set to update only via wifi... So when I'm home or at a wifi spot I will check to see if the update is available and then let it fly.

I have an unlocked Bell Note in use on the Telus network.
Will this affect my ability to update?

Might be a dumb question and if so sorry.
Would a device be able to make this bell ics update work for our Att notes

You can try the "Software Update" item under 'About Phone' from the Settings Menu.. Or if you're on Bell, you can try connecting the phone to a PC running the KIES software.
Telus Galaxy Notes do not support KIES updates. I believe Bell's do.

Probably not. What happens when you do a "SOFTWARE UPDATE / CHECK FOR UPDATE" currently? Does it give you a response or error out? if you get a response "No Update" -- then it should work eventually. It will likely be checking the Bell server tho. Not the Telus one.

In THEORY ... you could take the Bell or Telus ICS ROMs and load them on an AT&T phone in the states. And it *should* work.
I'd see the sticky at the top of this forum about doing backups and such and DO ONE before you try anything like that. And I'd probably ensure my phone was SIM unlocked for good measure.
In fact, as someone who learned the HARD way.. even if you aren't planning anything funky -- do a full nandroid backup anyway.
We all should have a full backup of our STOCK software etc.

[Q][URGENT] Is the OTA out for Bell yet?

Is the OTA update out for Bell yet. Im going to get my atrix soon and I don't want to update because then I won't have root. Unlike the american Atrix we don't have an SBF out yet.
So is the OTA update out yet. When do you think it will arrive?
I need to find out soon so I can get the atrix before the update comes.
no posts have stated that its out. but to cut to the chase, no its not out and there isn't an ETA or any statements that it is coming for bell.
So if you are asking because you don't want to buy one that is already update, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I have experienced no major problems with my Bell Canada Atrix. No random reboots, screen or wifi issues.
Its a good reliable phone!
I had my Atrix for more than 2weeks now. Got it from Kijiji. So far no word on the OTA update.
Also have no problems with the hardware. Purchased it, unlocked it, rooted and installed Launcher Pro.
A very sexy devil of a device.

Bell has actualy been doing a good job of getting timely updates out for their bigger phones (galaxy S before the US) hopefully they keep that up with motorola, in this case however it might be tough since motorola itself has a terrible record for canada
I think we might not get an update until later. It seems we already got some of the enhancements that they were getting on their update (ie detailed battery manager and screen turning off when charging).

Last Note Firmware Update Installed on ATT Note Already?

Quick question...is the last update, the one that went out to the international Note with the adjusted keyboard option to one side or the other and the lockscreen changes a few weeks back, already installed on the forthcoming ATT Note? Curiously it seems that none of the reviews of late mention it as some still complain about stretching the thumb all the way across the screen to type without being able to adjust the keyboard. Thanks.
My guess would be no, but the minute you install Kies, or try an OTA update via wi-fi, it will show up.
I got my international note on Dec 23, the minute I connected there was 1 update available, and two weeks later another update which brought it to LA4, 2.3.6
These things probably have a 1 month or more window from production, shipping to, then arrival at a store.
I work on photocopiers, and the serial numbers have the build dates, and even though these things weigh 500 pounds or more, they have a 3-6 month window from production, to us unboxing them in our office. Most of the time, they are one version of firmware out of date.

International and AT&T have separate/different firmware release schedule and different firmwares as well. So, don't expect to see a firmware already there wait for you to update. It never happened on any AT&T devices.
Even though Samsung will frequently update firmware on international version, not so on AT&T version. First of all, AT&T has to request an updated firmware from Samsung. Without AT&T's request, Samsung can't do anything about it. Then, it takes couple months for AT&T test the updated firmware before OKed for release. Then, AT&T has to agree on a date for the release. Let's say GNote 2 or GS3 is about to be released on AT&T, the update for current Note will be delayed until the new phones are out of door.
I won't expect any update on AT&T Note until summer at the earliest unless some serious bug is found.
Got my i717M yesterday. It's running LA2. I have not come across any options for the updated keyboard.

+1. All updates to the ATT version must be approved by ATT. No such bottleneck for our version. Not to mention DBT seems to be on the ball.

True, IF any at&t note gets an update, consider yourself lucky
A carrier rom is usually the LAST one to get an update (except for iJunk).
Plus, please use caution and if you look for a rom not from a carrier, don't
try installing a rom made for an international (GT-N7000) to an at&t (SGH-i717)
and vice versa. Guarantee you'll brick it.

I wasn't aware of the keyboard adjustment, it sounds like the perfect fix for those of us that are under 6'4" and paw challenged. Shame the carriers are so timid regarding upgrades, but this keyboard fix is a need market app developers should quickly supply. That will make waiting for the big boys to bring goodies like CM9 a little more bearable. : )

You will love your GNote! I got ensquared for my GNote back in December, $58 for one year since I did not have a manufacturers warranty which you do. It is the only phone I have ever bought insurance on.
This is a screen shot of the stock Gingerbread Keyboard. I like it better than the Samsung keyboard. The one handed keyboard is Samsung keyboard option on my firmware LA4. I have not used it because I think the regular keyboard is the perfect size for emailing and texting two handed.

We may need to start a Collin County GNote club! lol! I want the LTE model as well! Right now I am looking to get an unlocked Canadian Bell model. We'll see if that works out. Turns out if would be about $50 more than the ATT model for no commitment. Just checking out a few details. They have the NFC enabled so I am checking to see if you can load Google Wallet and if it works etc.

[Q] How can i tell if my Atrix is ATT or Intl?

In many howto's and other threads it often says "If your atrix is ATT do this, if it's Bell/Intl/whatever do that". Problem is, I have no idea which one of these i have, or what the differences are.
So, does anyone knows what's the difference between these versions, and if there's a way to check which one I have?
If it is still running Stock software then you can check the "splash screen" during boot. Also, the AT&T version has their logo on the back/battery cover.

I got it with a non-stock ROM, so that one doesn't help.
So if it doesn't say AT&T anywhere on the back, can i count on it not being the AT&T version?

It says MB860 under the battery.

That really doesn't help since they use the "MB860" model number for more than one version, including AT&T. I believe that is the model number for the Bell and Orange versions as well.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure about that.
(Additionally, a quick Google search also brings up Vodafone and maybe more?)
But if it doesn't say AT&T on the back then it's probably not AT&T.
It's true MB860 is used for more than one provider...If you have the product code something like SJUxxxx then we can get very specific to what country the phone is destined for
There's SJUG5964BB in there. is that it? Does that help any?
go to motorolas website enter your imei number in the "check warrenty section and it will give you the "stock description ",of the phone and if you bought it new the date it was activated and weather or not there is a warrenty left on it but It will tell you the specifics of the phone like mine AT&t en us mb860 blabla
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Didn't work for me.
It said "Your phone is in Warranty - Expires x/y/z" and that's it. No product description or any other useful info.
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place?
I will try to find out for you.
But since a whole lot of websites in Chinese popped up, I bet it's probably a Hong Kong model.
exact same problem
hi, I have the same exact reference of the OP phone, in case its a chinesse phone it is possible to unlock/root?? it's there any guide for doing it without briking the device?
I almost use the Automatic bootloader UNLOCK/ROOT guide. but i think it'll brik my phone.
I was able to get some more information but not enough to tell you where that handset was supposed to go.
It's definitely NOT AT&T...But it wasn't coded for a specific region/provider so it's more of a universal/international version.
So now, if I want to go back to stock firmware (or whatever it's called), how do I know which one is right for my device?
things to check

I can think of a couple of ways to check if your phone's not running the stock ROM AND if you're not rooted:
* Are you able to tether Wifi? On AT&T phones, the tethering is disabled unless you 'activate' it by contacting them
* The system build details on the 'Settings->About phone' page should give a clue. Maybe you could post them here?

Galaxy S III 4.3?

Anyone know or have a rough guestamate when they will be releasing the 4.3 update or in fact any update? Just i read a while back there was an update due, not official I think but we've had nothing for ages , im getting kinda bored.
I was in the o2 shop is Edinburgh the other day playing with the Galaxy Note 3, saying this is nice and quick and responsive, it had written next to it the samsung mega with no price or info, I'd never heard of so I checked system info and it said Galaxy Note 3, so I thought i'll get some coin together after a week or 2 and get one cos it was gonna be my next new phone anyway, I got home and checked every where online and they aint even released yet, in fact they don't even know the full spec of them, if i'd have know I would of stayed and dug out all the info, DAMN if I was on here more often I would of known.
I do remember it was on 4.2.2 and was really responsive but thats all, shame on me

Not all S3's are tied to Networks, so it's not completely their call.
Edit> so what I am saying is even if "networks" are waiting for 4.3, it doesn't mean Samsung aren't releasing 4.2.2 - Many of our S3's get updates directly from sasmung. That's what owning an unbranded handset means. There's a leak of 4.2.2 so they definitely worked on it. They may indeed skip it but they have not officially announced that, ergo it is nothing more than a rumour.
When the big ones make there move the other follow. Orange and o2 run the uk. If they pick not to do something other follow them. As most piggy bk of them.

EE and O2 send out their own updates OTA. Unbranded handsets are network independent and get their updates directly from Samsung. Piggy-Back networks do not pass out OTA updates. All Piggy Back networks use unbranded, Samsung managed handsets. They have no choice in what happens.
So if your on giffgaff which is run on o2 you have it from sam and not o2?

Yep thats' right.
When you buy a phone from O2 directly, you get an O2 branded handset which recieves updates from O2.
If you buy a phone from Carphone warehouse on O2, it will be unbranded. Essentially, CPW will give you the exact same phone no matter what network you go with. Giff Gaff do not even supply phones so, chances are if you buy a handset from somewhere ( a shop) it will be unbranded.
On top of this, if you have an Orange phone on O2, it will still get updates from Orange. It doesn't matter what SIM card you have on the phone. It's to do with the software that's on the phone. If I put an O2 SIM in my Three phone, my updates will continue to come from Three.
So what happends if you change software. Were do you get it then? Nice info btw:thumbup:

Well I have over simplified it. It is more to do with the CSC set within the phone, but it is all part of the software none-the-less.
If you have an O2 branded phone (O2 CSC) and flash Three UK ROM (Official) you will then get your updates from Three. If you Flash UK Unbranded official (BTU CSC) you would get updates from Samsung.
However, if you are in the UK and flash an Indian official ROM (with Indian CSC) you are unlikely to get updates in the UK. KIES would recognise your CSC does not match your geographical area too, so it would refuse you updates. So As long as you Have an official ROM (CSC) from your country, you will get updates from that provided / Samsung.

My theory is they discovered that everyone's phone is a software time bomb and any updates they are testing causes them to spazz out. And for anyone who's gonna say blah blah its how updates go...... I'm just seeing what some other theories are and letting others voice their opinions.

I couldn't agree more. It's June 1st, and we still don't have an update.

Same still no update.. Anyone has an idea if we are getting an update in the coming days? For ***** sake my note 8 is already on the may patch and so is my brothers galaxy s8! Interesting theory though, maybe its true lol.
i have to say 2 months after an update that was pulled, and no new update is a pretty douchy thing on a just released top shelf phone,oh well history repeats itself, hopefully something soon for us
Couldn't agree more. Love T-Mobile's responses to questions.
"We know how important software updates are to customers. We want to make sure ur running the most up to date software." Big FAT Lie lol.

What features?
Most likely wifi calling.
Possibly VoLTE.
Any carrier specific apps.

Wi-Fi calling for T-Mobile works fine on the Unlocked S9+
Some of the carrier specific stuff downloads when the SIM registers to the T-Mobile network. But you can download the rest of the apps if you want them from the Play Store.
You don't have all the bloat unless you choose to install it.

Any downsides? Does SamsungPay still work? That's a big one for me.
Samsung Pay works fine. I have no downsides. Though I have never used a branded T-Mobile phone since I have been on T-Mobile, so maybe I don't know what I am missing, if anything.
There isn't that much difference. I personally wouldn't do it. There unlocked version hasn't gotten any updates either and is still sitting at Feb 1 security patches.

Well that's no help then.
I'm on At&T, and any unlocked phone always disabled the carrier wifi calling and volte.

Oh, I couldn't care less about WiFi calling but VoLTE is a must. I though that was a standard feature. Bummer...
So stupid. I contacted support and they said they had no timeline of any future updates. Canada got theirs today...
Seems that all the S8 line has been updated on tmobile with may if im not mistaken. What do you bet we get an update tomorrow for April lmao. But really this is really really strange.
My wife's s8 active got the may update tonight. This just seems back asswards that the newest is the last on the list.
