Help. Computer recognizes my Note as a Media Player - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Last night I was able to connect my wifes Galaxy Sky rocket by USB and my Pc recognize it as a mass storgage device with no problem for porting over our Itunes music. I then tried to do my Note and it only recognizes my note as a Media player. Any ideas why this is happening or a fix? Thank you

You have to use USB mass storage mode found in settings

Found it. On my wifes Sky Rocket all I had to do was just click on the pull down menu on the phone and say ok to connect. Interesting.
Thank you very much!

Mine does the same, i have to trick it by pulling out the cable insert it and quickly enter usb storage some times before it works. I also have to put all my music on the internal memory cause that's the one working.

[Q] usb connection issues to car stereo, and phone turns off in debugging mode

yesterday i succeeded with connecting the sg2 to my car stereo via usb,
using the following instructions
usb debugging mode off
while Idle then I go to usb utilities and press connect to storage pc
then I connect the usb cable
yesterday it worked fine, although i was bummed it did not read the music on the external sd card, just the music that is stored on the 16 Gb built in sd card, what a bummer.
BUT today i could not connect it and my car stereo gave me usb N/A
i tired to connect my experia play and my iphone and both worked and connected immediately via usb to my car stereo withut any hassles,
what is wrong here, and why only do i face that with the S2.
I also noticed 2 days ago that every time i connect my phone to the computer and usb debugging mode is on after i disconnect the drives from the computer and then press disconnect from my phone the phone turns off. I did a hard reset hoping it would solve the problem and also formatted my external sd card to fat 32 but still no solution. I have installed kies on my laptop and it identifies the note successfully. Why does the note keep turning off when I disconnect it from my laptop or computer
I really need to solve this as I depend on listening to music in my car using the usb cable as listening to the music directly from the sg2 via 3.5mm cable is really bad on my stereo compared to using the note as storage card.
I was so put down when I compared the same song being played from xperia play with the sg2 using poweramp with the same settings, as the sound coming from the xperia play was good compared to the sg2 which was awful. In this comparison both phones where connected via 3.5mm cable to the car stereo, so I have no choice now to only listen to music using the note as a storage card by connecting it to the car stereo via usb cable
this is when I miss the iphone when everything works out of the box, and I don't have to struggle like this
Please help me in solving this as its driving me crazy

<[Q]> Connecting to Samsung TV

It always has worked with any HTC, SONY or NOKIA phone, Sensation and Desire HD have a option of connect to PC, this phone doesn't seem to have one. I am not talking about using a HDTV CABLE ADAPTER to display the whole screen, however, (1) I am looking for my Samsung TV to read the SD card of my phone (2) and if possible would it read the Internal memory too.
'when i use my usb cable to connect to the samsung tv, it detects the phone and asks if i want to swap to media play. When i do this i offers me the choice of movies, photos, music and settings. I can not play any of these and the settings only shows the phones id, memory available etc. Is there something within the phones normal settings i should be checking?'

Once again, I have purchased a HDTV Adapter, however, I want my TV to read my SD/Internal memory like it does with other phones. Please let me know if there is anything I could do to fix this.
TV does not have a wifi connection or an Ethernet connection.*'Programs like Allshare would be of no help whatsoever'.
Thanks
Sounds like all you need to do is enable USB debugging.
did that, after clicking on mass storage TV doesnt read USB, but the PC does. Samsung TV will read any other phone but not this.
after calling Samsung, they said they phone doesn't have that option like other phones do, so, I asked whether the HD cable would display the original resolution of the media or would it display the resolution of the phone, they told me that the cable would only display the resolution of the phone, now, if the TV was able to read my phone it wouldn't have been an issue. Any solution?
is this the wrong place to ask?

If you've tried USB debugging, and tapping "Connect USB storage" when the phone prompts didn't work, I can't think of anything else you could try.
all i can do for you is confirm my samsung tv working and reading my s2's Internal and external sd card.

I must have tried that a million times but it just aint working, I am on a contract with Orange, I can change my phone to Sensation, Mozart and iPhone4s without a problem, now I am thinking about getting Sensation because I know that phone does work.

Hi, when you say it does read both internal and external memory, can you please explain how the TV does it, any comments will be appreciated.

Well i connect my phone to the tv via USB and then i pull down the notification bar on my phone and click connect usb storage. Then in the corner of the tv it shows 'USB reading' then once thats done it asks to open (like auto play on pc).

For me on a Samsung TV LA32D400 this does not work. When connecting the S2 to the USB of the TV, then selecting USB on the TV, then pulling the notifications bar curtain and clicking on 'USB device connected' shows a green pupper which turns orange when I click it (USB debugging ON). So far so good works like on a PC.
Then for one second(!) I see Android USB on my TV and then it disappears and unmounts. An ordinary USB stick does work.
What is the problem here ?

[Q] USB connect in 08' Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this car yesterday 01/04/12 and I noticed that it has a USB plug for my phone, so I connected my phone with my Jeep via USB and it does not recognize my phone. Just curious what I have to do to be able to connect the two. It would be pretty sweet because I can load up to 20 gb of storage on my cars hard drive and play music and view pictures and stuff.. so any help would be awesome.
Thank you!
Not likely that the Jeep will interface with your phone. USB ports in cars are generally for thumb drives that you put MP3 files on or for updating the Nav systems. Try calling a Jeep dealer for more info on what capabilities that USB port has.

Thank you, I'll just do it that way.
Might need to put the phone into USB storage mode - gotta tap on one of the notifications.
Can't help too much more - I haven't used USB mass storage mode in ages, being lazy I just adb push/pull.
Putting it in mass storage mode usually works. I haven't used it in a while either as I use bt now. But if you have an external card also the read time when you first plug it in could take a few min.

If it has a USB connection then mass storage should work for mp3's and some other music formats. It does in mine. If for some odd reason it doesn't you should check if it has bluetooth. You can then stream your music and/or do hands free calling

Well, I've got it connected via "UConnect". Does that also give me the ability to stream my music?

No. I also have an '08 Jeep GC with the Nav radio. In order to play music from the SG2 you will need to connect via AUX input. If you have the rear entertainment unit you can connect the SG2 to those inputs. (Of course you'll need a micro usb to RCA cable but you can get one custom made. Check the accessories thread as there is a member making them.) Else you'll need to connect the SG2 via the headphone jack to the 3.5" input on the radio. Another option is the Lockpick device for the NAV radio. You can google MyGIG Lockpick for more details.
Update: Here's the link to the thread for custom cable. Not sure if he's making anymore but you can check. I bought one and it works great.

Player 4.2 will not connect to PC

I have a Galaxy Player 4.2 which I received yesterday. On connecting to the PC drivers were installed but on opening WMP 12 it appeared for a few seconds but then an error message came up to say cannot synch with device. Since then with player USB Settings on Media Player or Mass Storage - the player is not recognised or cannot be opened on the PC.
The player did connect with Kies once - but on a second try it does not connect so no music on the player!
The drivers are present to Driver Manager - Samsung YP-G11 USB Device and USB Card Device althhough they both say the device is not connected. I have used both new and old USB cables - and the player charges OK on the PC with both.
Any assistance you can give would be great - many thanks.

Ok thanks - I uninstalled Samsung drivers - plus in Player and get message 'Hardware ID missing windows cannot identify the device. So I search Google and a message on your website (hurray) says to take battry out of player and re-boot.
I do this and Player connects and drivers install.
When in 'Media Player' mode it does NOT connect to WMP 12 - teh player appears in the left hand list for 5 seconds then diappears.
BUT when in 'Mass Storage' mode and you click for USB Storage it does connect to WMP and works fine. Splendid!
With Kies it will NOT connect - the PC searches for a CDC Serial Driver but cannot find it - but then maybe I don't really need Kies.
Overall am now very pleased with the Player - the ease of use is goodeven for me - and the sound is so much batter than my old Sansa Fuze which died last week. Really pleased after all - it has 32GB memory good battery life and it is not an ipod.
Odd about the 'Media Player' thing but at least the thing is working now.
Thanks for the advice in your website - keep up the good work it is needed!
