First steps/must-do before using my Prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Ok, So i will be picking up my prime today.
I know ICS will be automatically updated when I do use it.
But I want to root the tablet but not unlock it. Is that possible?
Should i straight away use and update OTA to ICS or stay with the current firmware, reading people having problems with ICS not sure if its stable??

Search button is right there.
Yes, its possible. Seek and ye shall find.
Mods can we lock this?

As others have said, there are literally dozens of threads already on this. Normally I'm pretty lenient on threads in the Q&A section, but come on, you have to at least try and search before you make another thread on a over discussed topic.

How to return to 2.3.4 after updating top 2.3.6? STOCK

Ok like many others, I have horrible battery life since updating to 2.3.6.
I want to put 2.3.4 back on, since I never had any issues with it.
So is it possible to go back to Stock 2.3.4 from 2.3.6? If so, I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
Thanks.

If only we had a search function to find relevant threads that would answer our questions without the need to start a new one.

The reason I asked Mr Smarty pants is because I wasn't sure if it was able to downgrade the OS.
Wasn't the bootloaders updated in 2.3.6? Im not too hip with all that stuff. Im running stock and wanted to stay stock, but didn't know if upgrading to 2.3.6 was a one way trip.

If you weren't sure YOU SHOULD HAVE SEARCHED. You're not special, what makes you think that you can start a new thread all on your own instead of finding one of the many threads discussing the EXACT same topic?

What he said. I tried to be nice by using sarcasm, but sometimes you just need to speak it plainly. Thanks, Ent.
So much energy is spent on hammering people for opening new threads and not searching.
Yes, we know we should search, but with all due respect the search doesn't always work that good. Instead of mocking, don't you think it would be shorter and friendlier to simply answer, or help directing the OP, like in the 2nd reply in this post? Just a thought.

The thread about going back to 2.3.4 was on the first page of the General forum when this thread was created (yeah, I checked). Didn't even need to do a search to find it, just look. That's the height of laziness to not even make a cursory look of the threads before starting a new one. Curbing future misbehavior benefits the forum because NO ONE in here is paid to be here. This is NOT the Help Desk. You do best to remember that when you come in. The help you get is a gift and following the rules shows you respect that.

ICS: What exactly is the problem?

First off, I'm not looking for an ETA and not complaining. These devs are working free of charge and I could not ask for anything else.
I just want to know what is holding our device back from getting ICS ROMS. The International GS2 i9100 is getting ICS ROM after ICS ROM being pumped out for it. Why is the i777 one of the few phones that just don't even have betas out for it.
If someone could clear this up, that would be great.
The kernel source code. This could have easily been answered by using the search function. Not flaming just a little helpful advice. Welcome to XDA great to have you. But hopefully we will eventually get source.

The biggest issue is that the Search button is broken on all of the ICS releases. Hopefully they will fix it soon and we can get some ROMs to play with
Did you just join xda and want to get your first post?? Please READ before posting!
PS: Don't start another "Why the attitude?" thread! Why? THIS IS WHY!(New threads like this)
Oh man this thread makes me rage.

Wrong bootloader?

I recently rooted my phone, and it seems like I rooted with the international boot/kernel. When the phone turns on, it now shows the i9100 instead of 777. I have MIUI on the phone, calls and MMS and texts are working find. But because of the international thing, my back and search button won't work.
How can I fix this problem?
Why do people insist on coming to these forums and just download whatever catches their fancy without reading first? I'm really starting to sympathize with Miami_son. Everything you need to know is in the stickies in the general forum. Please take the time to read first this time.

Everything you need can be found in the Download Repository, linked in my signature. You need to know enough about what you are doing to avoid causing additional problems.

Official ICS for the Note out toda

Due to the official ICS coming out for the note today, I want to get it. Right now Im running the Saurom GB custom ROM. However, is it best to get one of the current ICS custom Roms or wait for someone to custom this stock ICS that was just released?
I think you accidently posted in the wrong section...this is development, not q & a. delete thread please

And no one has answered his questions.... Haha... If you get the official ics you will lose root and it might take a while to get it back.. Or it may be simple. Best to wait or go with one of the roms already made not sure of the differences between 5 and 6. But the devs will most likely update their roms anyway.... Have fun
If you want it now then install it. You get root just like you did with all the past ROMs. Install CWM with Odin and then SU with CWM. Simple as that. If you want to wait then wait. What else needs to be answered?
I wouldn't I work at att and had a customer show me...my root is wayyyy cooler and has much better features....

I think that you can find your firmware on sammobile and flash it on Odin . but i dont think that flashing another modem will unlock your device , that can even cause damage to your device . Dont try to flash zip from another model in any situation

You don't need to downgrade your rom. You can flas a modem even if you don't have root. If you have a custom recovery than just flash the modem.

Better off to say Touchwiz sucks as opposed to 4.1.2 sucks. There are 2 developers that still work 4.1.2 and your going to come off real ungrateful for their efforts. There is not a thing wrong with their ROMs. You just have to know how to fine tune them to your needs. Don't bash them if you can't do it. Just don't run them.
Its not the ROM that bricked your phone

what are you talking about.. at which point in my post did i say anything about the developers and what they do? you should really stop posting things unless your going to help. it seems in every thread i make or post a reply your right there with something to say that doesn't help and your in most of the thread I have read with no help other than to say read and look at the super everything thread. Those arent answers when people are asking questions. If anyone takes the time and reads everything than they wont have to ask questions but that isnt going to happen and thats why forums are created, to help and support and I know i've said this before to you on one of my posts. He asked about downgrading and i said that 4.1.2 sucks. Did i say that the developers or the after market roms suck? No I didn't. I've used several different roms and all the after market roms run much smoother that stock.

Dude, you need to seriously take chill pill. I was quoting you, 4.1.2. Sucks.
I have done nothing but try and help you, including coaching you on your ediquite here. With your clueless way of being vague, you are bad mouthing developers. We are trying to keep them here.
I wasn't the one who recently posted about running a Note 2 ROM on our device. No wonder you bricked yours.
Look at my post count, look at yours.
Look at my thanks count, look at yours.
You are everywhere posting about same issues, multiple times and in multiple threads. Issues that only you seem to have.
I have even PM'd you and tried to help, but you only read what you want to read and question more experienced members who have solid practices. Don't want my help fine, don't post without researching your personel issues. You won't believe anybody anyway.
Good luck..........geeeeezzzzz.
Yes I edited this, as I went on a tangent regarding this, but common decency got the better of me. I hope the other one was read though.

Ok. Don`t know about unlocking stuff. Here is a thread where you can find some stock Roms. The first one is 4.0.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647756
Just flash the J2 modem and follow the steps.
I had to replace my main board, so I took the ota update, then rooted, then realized I didn't unlock. So I flashed the J2 modem, unlocked, and kept that modem. It didn't do any better than the new modem that came with the update.
This thread turned pretty nasty for such a basic question.
Yeah it did. I flipped my ignore button to the on position and I'm goooood
