Transformer Pad TF300 Screen Issues - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

There is no section yet for the Asus Transformer Pad 300, so I figured I would post it here.
I just received my new Pad 300 from Amazon and was setting it up when I realized that there are 3 or 4 dead pixels on the bottom right of the screen that are very visible with a black background.
Also, there is a hairline scratch that seems to be between the glass and the LCD screen in the middle of the screen.
Has anyone else had any screen quality issues with their new Pad 300? Is the best way to get this issue resolved through Amazon or directly through Asus?

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I'd suggest you try posting your issues/reports/etc. here:

I know that a TF300T forum does not yet exist, but we do not need to clutter up the Prime sections with everyone's individual problems on a separate device.
BTW, I have "officially" requested a separate TF300T device forum.

P.S. I'd sent it back to Amazon and get a new one.

[Q] An ASUS transformer keyboard for gtab?

Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker but never really posted that much.
i was wondering if there was any way that the ASUS transformer keyboard can be hacked with the gtab dock adapter? I dont im alone in this, or if not that do you think there will be some third party who would make one? I think the sale on woot and now amazon might help push manufactures to make it.
Its very less likely that the keyboard would work due to the proprietary connector.
That said, a blutooth keyboard with a 10" enclosure should work no problem, and I see many manufacturer going into this once the transformer style become popular.
There is nothing unique about the eee keyboard the convertible style keyboard was already available for IPAD2 long before any one knew about the EEE.

I just love the idea that I can have a netbook and a tablet and switch at my convenience. The links that you posted is exactly what I am looking for. Is there anything in that style that will fit the Gtab?

unfortunately not that slick, you currently can go with the clip cases with USB or BT keyboards, they are very campy compared to this (well at least the USB version doesn't cost that much).
That said, I think with the huge recent surge in GTab owners, I don't think it would be that before some go on and make a professionally looking case like the ones quoted above (esp if the EEE transformer goes popular)
Crossing my fingers to that! I've spent a lot of time looking at everything that is currently available for our G tabs, and nothing seems "professional"; instead it all looks slapped together. Engadget has been posting a few articles about the G tab and with the lower price and the over clocking kernels....
Here me hoping that some third party shines some light back in Viewsonic's direction.

[Q] How far do you have to close your docked Prime before the screen sleeps?

Hi all,
I'm on my second Prime now, but as I was without a Prime for nearly two weeks, I can't not remember how the first was, so could do with some feedback from the board.
What I'm wondering is how far you have to close you docked prime before the screen goes into sleep mode? With my current Prime I have to get within a few millimeters of fully closed before the screen sleeps, and I'm concerned that it could wake while closed if the dock is moved even slightly.
So, how far from fully closed does your docked Prime get before sleeping? And is this (potentially) a setting that can be configured either within software or hardware?
Mine goes to sleep at approx 20 mm
I previously had the original Transformer with dock, and now I have the Prime with dock. Both of them had to be closed to sleep. Unlike the notebooks I have with mechanical lid switches, I'm guessing ASUS is using some sort of magnetic sensor that's very short range. It appears that just a few mm is all there might be.
Bye.

You are correct sir. There is a magnet in the dock that is sensed and lets the tablet know to go to sleep. I have had two docks apart and have messed around with the magnet. It has to be very close to get the tablet to sleep.

If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
Thanks all. Looks look my Prime is within tolerance then, and that it's not user adjustable (presumably without adding a stronger magnet within the dock).
yep, almost all the way. it's not that easy to open though so i wouldn't worry about it accidentally turning on in that way.

very picture friendly teardown of the prime, better than andtec

We all know that andtek did a teardown of the prime. I just stumbled upon an even more thorough teardown, nearly everything is pictured both on its own and where it came from.
Mods, if you could add this to the [GUIDES] [MODS] & HELPFUL POSTS FOR THE Transformer Prime thread that would be awesome, i think it would be good for people to referance to.

Anyone interested in trying to replace the backplate with something different would see how that is such a problem after seeing the pictures. It does, however, show that our prime is basically a screen, battery, and a very tiny circut board considering what its supposed to do. Very cool and informitive.

Wow, I *really* cannot wait until this tablet is released - mainly so posts in this forum stay relevant i.e. for the TF201. I was really glad when the TF300 was released and we got rid of all of those posts.
Hey, here's an idea: why don't all you people who are wanting to talk about the TF700 start posting in the TF300 forum or something? They are the newer tablets after all
Isn't it basically the same device with a different backplate and a higher res screen?
Some of those "reasons" are flat out wrong.
It is important to note that the video compares the Infinity to the iPad 3.
The video lists the plastic strip on the back of the Infinity as a reason why the Infinity will be better than the iPad. However the iPad already uses this technique to alleviate problems with WiFi/3/4G/GPS by placing the antennae behind the plastic Apple logo.
It says the Infinity is cheaper than the iPad 3. We don't know the official pricing for the Infinity yet, but all indications seem to be that it will be more expensive than the Prime which is currently priced the same as the base iPad 3.
The video lists Gorilla Glass 2 as a benefit for the Infinity. And while GG2 is good, the new iPad also uses this material on its display.
Less reflective screen is given as a pro for the Infinity, and I am sure all of us Prime users know the screen is plenty reflective, at least as reflective as the new iPad.
Faster charging? Really?
I am all for articles and videos that honestly compare the pros and cons of two devices, but some of the "reasons" in this video are purely fictional.
Plus it is full of misspelled words and set to the most annoying music EVER.
Please use the existing threads for the TF700.

Prime vs TF300T

Prior, I did a search on Google (most results were on forums that are blocked at work) and on here (most results were about benchmarks, which don't matter too much to me).
That said, I'm just curious if anyone has any firsthand experience with both of these tablets. I've been debating getting one for some time and I was on Newegg earlier and saw that the TF300T (32 GB) was on sale for $299. I texted my uncle about it, who is an even bigger tech buff than I, and he told me that he was thinking about selling his lightly used Prime (also 32 GB) for $250.
Some of the search results that I found mentioned something about the WiFi being dodgy in the Prime, so I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on that specifically as well. A video "battle" that I watched basically summed it up that, to the everyday user (IE not a power user) the TF300T is essentially a plastic version of the Prime.
Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

The ability of the primes screen to go to 600 nits of brightness is one really great thing. I can use it on a very sunny day no problem.

Well, I have both.
GPS is much better on TF300 (nearly non-existent on Prime)
Wifi is similar for me (if there is a difference TF300 is a tad better)
Screen is brighter on Prime
Metal finish on Prime looks better than the "golfball-plastic" of TF300. Still the TF300 does not look cheap. I have both in sleeves so that does not matter to me anyways.
Thanks for the responses guys. Can anyone else chime in?
A classmate and I both decided to get Transformers mine is a refurb Prime and his is a new TF300. Wifi his is slightly better but both pick up the same signals his is just a bit stronger. Gps his locks faster than mine when I don't use the dongle with the dongle mines just a bit faster. Apps if it doesn't work on his then it won't on mine or vice-verse. Aesthetically people like the prime better due to the metal back but the metal back does scratch easily and the TF300's plastic back we found that scratches are harder to notice but if both are in a case then neither issue matters. We have swapped devices for a week and neither of us could really tell we weren't using our own as far as OS and APP experience went. This was prior to me be unlocked and rooted I chose to do this as I had a limited warranty he has yet to do this so we can see a difference now but that's a risk he hasn't decided to do yet.
If I was in your situation I would go with the Prime if the Wifi and GPS(with or without dongle) were functional and use the saved $50 dollars on apps/accessories I have personally spent that much on just apps in my 2 months of ownership.
Thanks Dutch, some of the things I had read just had me wary of the Prime.
