Your Honeycomb tablet MUST BE ROOTED. No exceptions.
If you've already upgraded to the official ICS firmware, you're OUT OF LUCK. There is currently NO known method to root.
There's already an extensive guide included with Condi's awesome ALLinONE tool, but for many, a video is always helpful.
Make sure you READ the video's description and follow the instructions!
Do this at your OWN RISK!

Hi everyone,
So I just did some research about rooting and custom firmwares and Android in general the past few hours and I finally rooted my Galaxy S2 I9100 with T-Mobile Branding (running Android 2.3.5) using DoomLords root (zergrush exploit): forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Then I wanted to make a full backup of my firmware because I wanted to try out a custom firmware. Of course I did research and I found out that there is clockworkmod which allows you to do backups. Now I don't have that.
I found a thread on another forum which explains a method where you use Chainfire's method to flash a Kernel (using the inital CF Root flasher) as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 which is actually for the Galaxy Nexus. Will this also work with the S2?
I've also checked this thread which contains several kernels with CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I got Android 2.3.5 and Kernel ending on KK1 (this Kernel isn't listed there)
Which method should I use? Which kernel should I use of those listed in the above thread? What's the difference between them?
I would really appreciate it if someone would help me out because I am afraid of bricking my phone.
Also this is a wonderful forum and I will try my best to contribute and help people out using the little knowledge I got
Greetings
Ok well I want to know if its woth the update to ics? Im running a root version oh honey... everithing running smooth, and I want to know from people that have the ics working good and like I said if itrs worth the update and if it can be rooted yet? Also could u posibly point the way on how to update to ics safely with honeycomb root sony t. S (3.2.1 release 2) @build5 #1 thanks...
I think it is worth the update. ICS still has a few annoying little quirks, but its a lot smoother on the Tablet S and just all around nice to look at.
You can use condi's tool to update to a pre-rooted version of ICS, just make sure you follow the directions very carefully.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720
You can safely update to unrooted ICS from rooted Honeycomb without any problems, but once you have unrooted ICS you will no longer be able to root your tablet until a new exploit is found. So if you really want root, condi's tool is the way to go when you upgrade to ICS. Good luck!
can someone please help me out with some information please ... i have been really busy and gave not been able to keep updated with the sony tab.S. well i rooted my tablet as soon as the ICS update was available. i see that there was new options added to the firmware . DO NOT UNROOT! Just run Condi's AiO v4.0 (not v4.1, it has a bug) tool to pre-root and update to the newer version of ICS. Before using AiO v4.0, place a blank file named _offupdates in AiO tool's files directory (so AiO v4.0 will not try to update to v4.1) and update AiO tool's ADB files to version 1.0.29. See the bottom of stifilz's FAQ post for downloading AiO v4.0 and ADB v1.0.29 files.
Well, I’ve decided to start this thread to see what the general consensus is regarding the best way to update to Jelly Bean (official) from Gingerbread (official). So basically, what’s the best way to get the latest stock firmware on an otherwise stock and/or new XT910.
Hopefully this thread can come in handy for future users, who, like me, are a bit confused and do not have access to wifi and/or official over the air updates.
If rooting is something one is after, this shouldn’t be an issue as thanks to the amazing work of djrbliss over at droidrzr.com, rooting for JB is now readily available (thread here). I will as such disregard rooting methods in this thread.
So what it comes down to is this:
- The OTA way: as described in this thread. Before installing the OTA from the ext SD Card, it is strongly advised to flash the official ICS .XML first via RDS Lite.
- The direct way: flash the official JB .XML via RDS Lite, without flashing the ICS .XML first.
- The alternative way: flash the official ICS .XML via RDS Lite, and then flash the official JB .XML via RDS Lite.
Remember, we’re talking about updating from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean.
One thing I’m particularly concerned about is bricking the device in the process. I understand that, for instance, flashing the official ICS .XML on a device that had been updated to JB via the OTA way will brick the device (no going back to previous firmwares). Is it possible to brick the device by flashing the official JB .XML directly on Gingerbread, without updating to ICS first?
Have people actually tried any of the direct and alternative ways? What do you guys think? Which is the safest/best way to update from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean?
Is there a way to root my Xperia Z2 (4.4.4) without unlock its bootloader?
Or else better, is there a way to back-up the bootloader before the unlock?
I ask because I want to root it without set a custom Rom.
Thanks in advance.
There is. You've got to downgrade to for example 4.4.2, root your phone, create a pre-rooted version of 4.4.4 and then flash that. There is a much more detailed guide around here, so I recommend that you check that out
To back up your ta partition you will need root first.
In stead of creating a rooted rom you can also find some prerooted here in the development forum.
-Use flashtool to downgrade to 4.4.2
-Root and install recovery with one of the available root methods (towelroot for example)
-Use recovery to flash a rooted 4.4.4 zip, recovery (again) and SU (again)
-Reboot
-Test network connection, if 4g is not working, use flashtool to flash a local 4.4.4 baseband
That's all.
I heard that for rooting it's required to have unlocked bootloader. Is that true?
(I have seen the root guide in forum, but I don't think that it mentions the bootloader)
My problem is that I want to upgrade the phone without errors (when sony has updates). I say that because a friend of mine has a rooted Nexus 5 with unlocked bootloader and he can't install the last update. It gives him a bootloop and returns to the previous. This is something I don't want.
Thanks in advance.
Unlucking is not needed.
Official updates should work if you're on a 100% stock rom, but updates are generally available as flashable rooted zip, here in the forums, long before you get an official update available from Sony.
So that should be no problem.
Biggest issue here that people dont search howto root on locked bl, that is possible, search and read then you will have it, example like the installations steps of a modded stock rom
