Hello,
I am using cm7, but this is a general question about replacing files in roms. I have been working on an issue that involves opening the zip file and then edit and replace certain files. I have seen a few posts in the past where it says to replace certain files in a rom, but everytime that I do I get an error after flashing. After flashing and boots to the main screen that asks you to touch the android, I get an error that says "Sorry, the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and the only option is to click on Force Close, but it just keeps coming back. Something is definitely not right with replacing files in a rom, but Im not sure if there's even a correct way. Im using winrar as everyone has mentioned. I have tried using the Fix Permissions option in the Clockwork Recovery also, but no luck. Only option is to reflash. Anyone have any ideas? Does the whole rom need to be recompiled?

I am trying to edit an .xml file in settings.apk, i can't remember the name as im away from my computer, but i tried decompiling manually and recompiling and i jsut get force closes when i copy back to system\app. I also tried apk manager and get the same force closes. I did sign them .apk and also include the twframework.apk as a dependency when compiling/decompiling. Any tips as why i could possibly be getting all force closes? I removed touchwiz from system/app could this effect it?
I don't have experience with your specific case, but when it comes to removing touchwiz from system/app I have noticed problems. For one, when I select Airplane mode, phone lags and I get a force close error. Another, I experience longer (not considerably longer, but still longer) boot times. Tried various things such as factory resets, flashing touchwiz-less systems, but still got these error.s Both issues remedied by putting touchwiz back in system/app.
So yea, not directly answering your specific case, just saying it's possible since removing touchwiz seems to cause problems for myself.
I remember having this issue since ICS and on multiple devices running different ROMs.
What gives? I know the solution is to clear out the Download history and it still works. Just annoying that I have to do that... Does Google know about this issue??
You can also try using a browser like Opera, that helps me. But yeah it really is annoying it also happens to me both on GB and ICS

To be able to download certain files, you must first have an application that can run the file. If you don't have the ablity to run the file it will refuse to download, giving the download unsuccessful message.
What you say may be true. But the files I download are definitely openable. Yet they still don't download successfully until after multiple attempts or clearing the cache.

Hello everyone -- First post
I don't know if this will help, but i tell you what i experienced yesterday. I have both a HP Touchpad 32GB Wifi only and a Samsung Fascinate. I have the problem with both of them for months now. I can install anything i want from Google Play, but can not down load any other files, both from emails and websites. I can write to it with Window XP Pro machine.
Two days ago i was messing around with my Touchpad dual boot WebOS/CM7 and wreck it. Wouldn't reboot, couldn't run WebOS doctor on it or any thing. I thought it was bricked. Then i ran across a forum how to delete the volume manually and recreate them. Then install back to factory original.
Last night i got it back to 3.0.5 and installed CM9 tenderloin nightly 20121028 dual boot. First think i did was go to a website to down load a PDF file to see if this fix my download problem. File downloaded, i tried opening it, said no file associate. Jump into Google Market , installed reader, open the file, no problem. I started checking with ROM Manager for any nightly updates. There was one and i started downloading it, and moved on to installing Titanium Backup plus Root. Few minutes after dubbing around, checking CM9.I noticed that it had a download error. SO i jumped on to another website to download another file. Immediately <Untitled> Download Unsuccessful. Here we go again. Switch over to Google Market, Titanium Backup plus Root finished installing.
I remove it and root. Check to see if it fixed the problem. NOPE! still no downloading. This morning at work during break, I wiped CM9 out with ACMEUnistaller, and started over. Same install as before. No problem downloading any files so far, but i have not reinstalled Titanium Backup plus Root. I will install it tonight just to be sure and redo my Samsung Fascinate to see if i can reproduces the same results there with CM10.
Can someone else that is having the same problem confirm with their system and see if they get same result?
Not so
Sorry guys, I just reinstalled Titanium Backup plus and can not repeat it. I'll keep checking with everything that I install and any settings I change
You may have better luck with the Touchpad forum.

Its not just my touchpad that is having the same issue. My Samsung fascinate have the issue and it has CM10 nightly. I've search many forum site for this problem. There are many other that are having the issue with all different devices and ROM's. I
I'm currently trying to repeat on touchpad because if i mess this unit up it won't be a big deal for me. I have got it down 25 minutes or ever less removing the CM and reload it. Not so fast for me on the Samsung. So far unsuccessful repeating it. Going to try repairing Fascinate and on it.
You think this should be moved to another thread? If so please let me know.
Thanks in advance
FYI, if you change the name of the original Download folder to, say Download_old, then try the download again, it will create a new folder and download to that one. weirdly, the folder permissions are exactly the same for both folders after (rwxrwxr-x)
Hi everyone I'm having some issues when updating my phone to a new version of android, the phone I have is the Huawei Ascend P2 this morning there was an update available to install to I downloaded it and proceeded to install but during the installation process I got an error and the update was aborted, I tried this several time with the same result I get assert failed: apply_patch_check I know there have been threads about this before and I tried following some of the steps but it never resolved the issue. I have rooted my phone and deleted the browser from my phone using root app delete as it was slow and useless. I saw a guide on there that that required me to download the apk for the app causing the issue and to place it back into the system/app directory I did that but the issue still remains. I also saw another guide that said I have to edit something I tried to follow it but as I'm not so android savvy I didn't understand it and was unable to try it for myself. Any help would be much appreciated from you guys, I know some of you may be annoyed at me by posting a thread about an issue that has been solved before and for that I appologise I have tried some of the suggestions made but still unable to resolve this, any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
The error I get is assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Browser.apk
I have the same problem, an update was released for my phone but it fails the check because of the build.prob. you could try to backup your phone and the do a factory reset on the phone
Factory reset is not going to make the Browser app work.
When you moved it into the /system/app folder, do you remember if you changed the permissions? Since it is a system app, it needs to have different permissions than a regular app from the Play Store. It'd be simple to test - Does the app show up in the app drawer? Can you open it? If not, you either have the wrong version of the Browser.apk or you have not set the permissions to: RW-R-R.
For the build.prop issue - Are you rooted? Have you made any changes to it or installed any apps that would adjust it? This could be for anything from changing the wifi scan interval to memory management apps. If so, then you can grab an unchanged one and copy it to your phone, set permissions, and reboot. Have to make sure it is the right one, or it won't boot at all and you'd need to restore the entire phone. If you have CWM or TWRP then definitely nandroid before attempting anything like that. If you don't understand any of this, then best to get some help and do not attempt yourself.
I havĂȘ changed it yes.thats WY i need an unchanged one to compare it.and i AM Also rooted.

How did you change it? Most tools that edit the build.prop also create a backup. You might search for it with a root explorer. Typically, it'd be labeled like:
build.prop.bak
If that's the case, then rename the modded version and remove the .bak off the original, make sure the permissions are set still and reboot. Other than that, you'll just have to hope someone responds to your request in the P2 thread.
Cant i do a full phone repair? My old Sony had that feature from the PC. It completely erased everything and flash a stock ROM

I think the only way that they released to the public for updates is the update.app way. I'm sure they have a tool @ a service center. Dunno why they wouldn't put it out. But this is why you don't make changes to the system without backing it up. I take it you don't remember what you changed in the build.prop, just to undo it?
Hi all! Please solve my issue - it is getting real serious. Before starting a thread I have already researched a lot about this problem and now, XDA is my second last hope!
I own a XOLO Q1010 (with Android 4.2.2) phone. Recently, the company has released KitKat update for this device. I was real excited about it as the new ROM has already arrived luckily to my phone as well! But, unfortunately, it is not that easy. I start upgrading by downloading the system update of 316.14 mb, and as soon as it enters Recovery mode, after few seconds, an error occurs. First, I thought there might be some problem with the Zip file, next, I downloaded update again and kept it at a safe place to reuse it.
Now, I don't know why but as I analyzed that error, it wrote:
warning:no file_contexts verifying current system
"/system/app/Browser.apk" has unexpected content,
installation aborted.
update.zip is not correct
I thought that once few months earlier, I disabled this browser app (after rooting) so that may be the issue. I'll update that browser and it will apply the update to my phone.
After this, I started troubleshooting.
I checked Browser.apk file, and saw that it was working fine.
After this, when I started Browser, it showed: "Unfortunately, the Browser has stopped".
I later reset the app preferences, but it didn't worked.
I decided to re-install the fresh version and paste it manually within /system/app folder.
I did as many times as possible and with trusted installers (like the one I got on some thread on XDA itself), but nothing really worked.
I decided to do clear the cache partition but that doesn't work either.
Right now, the browser is also not working and I cannot upgrade my system as well.
I have gone for Factory Reset as well. But as soon as setup completes and everything get backs to normal, I start the default browser, it pops-up the message again that unfortunately, the browser has..
So this is what bothering me a lot. I have already gone for a Factory reset and tried the methods that I was aware of and found suitable. But nothing actually worked. The Recovery still displays the same error as above and I cannot upgrade my OS to KitKat.
Tired and irritated now, please anyone help me.
Thanks in advance! :good:
I have the same issue.
I also deleted the system browser.apk.

You need to flash stock 4.2.2 rom via spflashtools then update
Hello everyone and thanks for the support.
Recently I installed the Cyanogem Mod 12.1. I really missed the motorola apps in the stock version, so i tried reinstalling them. After some research in /system/apps, i found two foulders, probably related to the motorola apps. After i tried installling the apk, it said it wasnt a support device. So i coppied the foulders in /system/apps, permitions and etc and done. Didn't work after all.
Now i updated cyanogem. A "motogeofences has stopped" appears everytime. The device shuts down after 10 alerts.
I want to go to /ssytem/app and erase the folders, but how?I have twrp recovery.
Use the Aroma File Manager in your recovery to delete these files.
Just copy the zip to your SD Card and install it from your recovery (should work with every recovery). When done, exit the file manager and restart your phone.
Wrong thread. Sorry
