[q] evo 3d charging problem - HTC EVO 3D

Hello!I have a simple question.I have rooted my EVO 3D and I have installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604500.Ever since then, after overnight charges,in the morning the LED that indicates charging is green but when I start the phone I see the battery is between 65-70% charged.I believe this is software related. Is there anything I can do about this? Also, when I plug it in,the red LED goes on,then shuts off, then goes back on.Is there any problem with my phone or ROM?Thanx

no one>?

Have you tried resetting your battery stats? if that dousn't help: Try reflashing the rom

Hi! I am not positive about this but i heard that if you don't charge your phone 100% before installing a rom or the battery % before installing the rom will be the highest the charging goes too. Hoped this helped!

Nah that's false.

I've had the same problem I let my battery drain down to 15% and then I deleted the battery stats and I let it charge 98% and I've found that the EVO has a charging script of some kind that want let the EVO charge to 100% and that also keeps it from over charging so for me to charge to 100% when it stops at 98% I have to unplug and plug it back in and then it will charge to 100% I hope this helps

My evo charges to a 100% without any issues. I've had to do the unplug and replug for like the first 3 months of having the phone. Now it charges regularly. Also I've never wiped battery stats.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\

Dai un wipe la battery stats.
Asa imi face si mie.

well heres what my evo does... i charge it to 100% and aprox 5-10 minutes at a time it goes down in percentage 99% 98% 97% the lowest i have seen it go is 95%
i've reset the battery stats occasionaly and we all know when you flash a new rom and wipe battery stats go with all the cleaning
i also got a new anker battery
let me know!

I have done the wipe battery stats thingy(which involves charging to 100,wipe stats for recovery, let it drain to 0,charge to 100) and it still makes this annoying thing. If it's off it only charges to 65%,if it's on,it goes all 100.What can I do?
I am running Shooter BEATS NG

Flash another Rom and see what happens

I had the draining to 95% when charged problem until I flashed the new ICS ROM leak, now my Evo charges to 100% and stays there.

[Q] Weird battery behaviour

Hey guys, I have a GSM evo 3d and yesterday my battery started acting really weird...
Whenever I restart my phone, it would decrease by 10%. So I started testing by restarting nonstop. The first few times the battery decreased from a 90% to a 60% after about 3 restarts. Then after that it would decrease by a 2~3% each restart. So I drained the battery yesterday evening and charged it overnight. By this morning ( 8 hours of charging ) the LED turned green as usual...then I tried restarting. Bam, instant drop to 88%. Now after restarting multiple times, my battery history graph has a bunch of random drops...(for nerds, there are many points where the derivative does not exist LOL)
This is already the second day this is happening...please help me out.
Another issue is, whenever I restart my phone and it's on the white screen with green HTC letters, the red LED light stays on for around 3 seconds. I'm using LeeDroid 2.0.0 if anyone is wondering.
Thanks!
What battery are you using?
I would start by letting the phone die, have it auto shut off. Then charge it and have it on when it is charging, have it go till the green light comes on and then some. Then let it die agien and fully charge it one last time. Let it drain slowy and with normal use.

I'm using the factory battery that came with the phone.
I'll give that a try tonight.
Did you already tried to calibrate your battery when charged to 100 percent?

Yeah I did, and I am suspecting that is what caused all this since I just calibrate it a day before this started happening.

Battery only charges to 99%

When I charge my phone it only charges to 99%. I'll leave it in for a while, come back and it's only at 99%. Either charging in the wall, or on the computer. It used to make it to 100% then all of a sudden it just stays at 99% regardless how long it charges. So the charging light always stays on and never lets me know when it's fully charged.
Any idea why?
Thanks.
Mine does that too once in a while, randomly.
But the Sensation would do that to randomly.
Dunno why.
Battery is strange...
I get that too. But eventually it will get to 100%. There has been times where it was charged to 100% then suddenly drop to 99% even though it still plugged in.
Did you get your phone recently? I'm thinking its because the battery needs to be conditioned.
Mines always does that, as soon as I unplug it it jumps to 98%. Im hoping ARHD fixes this
I've installed Battery Widget (from Market) and it reports 100%. I plug in every night and in the morning it reads 100%.

New Amaze Android Revolution HD ROM by mike1986?
This happens with many devices. I have not seen this yet on my Amaze but I am sure at some point it will happen. Try turning the phone off and charging it to 100% then power it on also try running the battery all the way down and letting it charge to full UNINTERRUPTED over night. If those dont help you can always try another rom with better battery management or go into a t-mobile store and get a battery replacement if your battery is still under warranty. Hope this helps
HTC does this on a lot of phones. It is a safety default to keep the battery healthy and safe. I had this issue with the Evo. The only way to fully charge a battery is to have other a wall charger or a SBC kernel.
its the best sense rom known to man in my opinion.

My stock battery is 3.8v, and it only goes to 100% if I charge it in the phone. If I use my wall charger, it shows up at 99% when I put it back in my phone. I have two aftermarket batteries that show about 98% when charged from the wall. I am thinking that the phone charging circuit is set for 3.8v, and might possibly overheat the aftermarket batteries (3.7v). I saw one review that said these batteries melted the top of his SIM card. I'm not planning on trying that; I use the stock, charging every night, and swap the spares in if I run out of charge during the day.
I just remember hearing the same stories when I had my evo. You could charge for hours and unplug it and it would almost immediately drop to 99 or 98. So my previous statement may or may not help.
I charged mine over nite and woke up to it being 99%, left it for another hour or two and it hit 100%. I would say to leave it a little longer to get that last 1%.

For anyone who is running quicksense, if you want better battery life, charge your phone completely and go into recovery > Advanced> wipe battery stats. And done!

I find that if my phone its powered off while charging, it shows 100. If powered on, it shoes 99.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using xda premium
this is normal for lithium ion batteries...it also depends how the manufacturer perceives the battery...some manufeacturers say that your phone is 100 percent but it might only be around 95-98...overcharging lithium ions are bad...also some manufacturers say you have 10 percent left while you might actually have 15 or maybe to percent left...this is a fail safe method to shut off the phone and keep the battery from draining completely WHICH IS REALLY REALLY BAD FOR LITHIUM IONS...OVER CHARGING THE BATTERY IS BAD TOO...perhaps htc's thresh holds are a little different and actual to the real battery life.
also not a good idea to use your phone or any lithium ion device while its charging
powering off your phone to charge it overnight is the best idea to give you lithium ion a long life but this is not practical. this is why it says 100 percent when you turn off the phone and 99 when you're phone is off....it confuses the phone: " A portable device must be turned off during charge. This allows the battery to reach the set threshold voltage unhindered, and enables terminating charge on low current. A parasitic load (which means using phone or turning screen on while its charging) confuses the charger by depressing the battery voltage and preventing the current in the saturation stage to drop low. A battery may be fully charged, but the prevailing conditions prompt a continued charge. This causes undue battery stress and compromises safety."

Battery

How come the battery stops charging at 98% I've wiped battery bin and Ive been through three cycle's I let my battery drain down until the evo shuts off and then I remove the battery and putt it back in and power up on to see if it will turn on and it doesnt then I plug it in and let it charge while the evo is powered off and I would let it charge until I see the green light and then I power up only to find out it stopped charging at 97% hmmm thats very strange why is that ?

fyi...the battery fully charges to 100% and then starts discharging back down to about 95/97% and then back up when it is plugged in. safety feature so you don't fry the battery. it is normal.
Ok thanks for the reply

When the battery reaches 98% unplug your charger and then reconnect it. It should take about 30 to 40 min to hit 100%.

mine does the same but only drops to 90.. i think it does that so we dont fry our batterys when we leave them on the charger to long..

I'm facing battery issues from few days, my 3d would charge fine till the battery level reaches around 80% but then the level doesnot want to rise up.After a reboot it shows battery level around 98%. Also my battery charges above the max limit I.e. between 4350-4355mv when it reaches near 99% but it never goes to 100% . Is it the battery issue or is it my cable which is wearing out from the ends ?
Everything was working fine before few days . No issues , with the weared out cable.
Will the battery swell if I continue to charge it at this voltage ?
Are you using the stock battery ??

A little more info would be nice. What rom are you using? Do you have root permissions? Are you s-off?
The first solution is:
On OVO 3D sometime if battery is charged to 100% he starts to use battery power instead of charger so if the light is green you need just to connect the charger again and it will start to charge again.
And the second:
After you installed some kind of ROM you need to calibrate the battery again. You can do by discharging your phone to 3-5% and then charge it to the full. You need to repeat this process few time and then you have calibrated battery.
Sorry but i forget to say that before recharging you need to delete old Battery stats

The first thing is correct. When the phone is fully charged the charging stops and the phone uses power from the battery.
As for your second statement - you are partly right. Even though most developers say the same thing you said I found the battery calibration is the best way to get the most from your battery. I tried everything that developers suggested and it didn´t work so well. Battery calibration did the trick - now my battery life is great
Anker batteries seem to work the best
Hey. Thanks for the replies. I'm using the 4EXT recovery and KingCobra3D - ICS 1.6 ROM. The thing is that my phone doesn't even charge up to 100%. Is it necessary to discharge the phone to 1-5% and then charge it to full and then calibrate via recovery or can I just calibrate the battery without having to discharge it first?
Also, I have root on my phone and S-ON.
My anker battery has reported like 4000 charge since I got it and I tried using the calibrate app but it still reports the same after a few cycles? It should be reporting 1900.

If you don´t use battery calibration you should go into recovery and wipe battery stats. Then boot up and fully charge the phone and let it discharge to 5-15%. Charge it to full and that should be it.
If you use battery calibration just charge to full, enter calibration app, hit calibrate and that is it

Okay the phone charged up to 100% but it took ages. I've downloaded the Battery Calibration app from the Market and hopefully everything's gonna be well now.
I have battery life issue too. I will try battery calibration.
