The tablet lags when there is a notification - Sony Tablet S

I noticed this in Honeycomb and now ICS. The tablet lags really badly when a notification comes up in the bar at the bottom right. It becomes fine when it goes, but it's really annoying, especially when using Skype which gives you a notification every 30 seconds, during the notification as it slows everything down.
Is there any way to fix this?
Cheers.

mine too!
I just want to confirm the issue. My Tablet S on ICS 4.0.3 is very buggy/slow/glitchy when notifications come in too (specifically the notification bar/clock area). Mine is totally stock non-rooted. My older honeycomb version 3.2.1 was perfect and non-glitchy in this regard.
I like the ICS better since it looks good and my apps rarely force close now!

I don't have this problem at all ( I'm still in Honeycomb).

The pop up notifications (floating near the bottom, middle of the screen) drag mine down in both Honeycomb and ICS. Never bothered me too much, but its a hiccup in an otherwise very slick OS.

Slow screen rotation / device speed

I've had a couple of units (I had to return the first unit because of a possible 'dust under the screen'-issue). But the first unit that I had, and that I returned, was quicker overall, especially on the screen rotation. It was especially noticeable when sliding out the keyboard from the home screen and then press '1' in the popup launch menu: whereas my first unit would launch the SMS app almost instantly with no spinning wheel, my current unit brings up the spinning wheel and takes about 2-3 sec before opening the SMS app.
I did some investigating and pinned down the problem to the screen rotation: it doesn't launch the SMS until it has finished rotating the screen, and since the rotation is slower overall, it brings up the spinning wheel.
My first unit blew me away overall with its speed. My second unit is generally quick, but that's it. I've also read at least one review stating that his phone was very slow, as if the CPU was constantly working.
FWIW, my ROM version is 1.14.402.0 (unfortunately I didn't check this on my first unit), and the radio version is 0.24.30.24.
So how quick are your phones, especially on the screen rotation and opening up the SMS app from the quick launch menu?
mine is 1.14.407.1
The phone is very fast switching between V to H (if there are no application running) and it takes ~2 sec to enter sms
switching between H to V is slower...
You have a slightly newer ROM.
Anyone else who cares to share their what ROM version they're running?
My ROM is 1.14.401.1. I notice short lag when switching between landscape and portrait, but it's short enough to not bother me.
My rom is 1.14.404.0. Works perfect, no lags in menus.
Anyone problems with the gps? Mine doesn't get a fix. Resetted three times to factory defaults and now working. Hopefully it stays working

No problem with the GPS. On the contrary it gets a fix within seconds even indoors. Might be an issue with nav-software (I use Garmin XT).
I edited my home screen by removing the missed calls (you get the missed call icon in the status bar anyway), mail (don't use it), getting started, and the weather app (quite useless given that it doesn't show the current weather on the home screen), hoping for a speed improvement in the screen rotation. Now it's subjectively a little faster, not by much but enough to make it worthwhile.

[Q] background update almost freezes the phone

Hi there,
I have standard rooted, 2.2, KA6.
Whenever I get the that round icon in the taskbar with two arrows pointing at each other which I think is for background update of some sort the phone really really really lags at everything.
Does this happen to you? Is there a workaround?
Thank you.

[Q] .28 Update returned graphical glitches

Hello everyone
Has anyone else been experiencing graphical glitches on their tablet ever since .28 update? These glitches were completely fixed on .21, regardless of which program I used. On .28, these have returned and happen mostly in gallery, Polaris Office, and Smart Office 2 application while editing any document (PDF, word, excel) which I do ALOT.
Also, beside graphical glitches, I have also noticed an increase in Browser crashes. Again, on .21 browser crashes were almost non-existent.
I was perfectly happy with .21 with EZOverclock and custom build file. The new .28 update is really ruining the experience for me.
Is there anyway to downgrade to .21? I manually updated to .28 by placing the update file on my MicroSD card, can I downgrade that way as well?
.28 glitches
I just updated last week and began noticing these glitches.
They occur for me in the bottom left corner and makes certain rows of pixels on the back button flip the opposite direction and when in certain applications the bottom left corner/side has rows of pixels that go haywire.
I also noticed that with this update occasionally my status bar on the bottom will move a pixel row up and back down (same with the keyboard on occasion) giving a bouncing look.

This is exactly what happens to me. Particularly when viewing videos and pdfs. Sometimes I get the left edge crazy lines thing. Hate to say it but .28 does seem to be a bust for my machine, .21 was pretty sweet.
Tritium
I too was getting the glitches, I did a factory reset (several actually) and re-installed everything on my non rooted non unlocked Prime and it seems to be doing much better now.
I would mainly see the glitches while using the YouTube app or Firefox.

I'll have to try some factory resets. Hopefully they'll put out a fix soon. Thanks.

[Q] Very odd screen tearing/flickering

I've begun to have very odd screen tearing, I'll try to describe it the best I can, as I haven't been able to get a proper screenshot of it happening, and I hope someone can help me out
Almost all the time the bottom bar, where the nav buttons and notifications are, will "jump" up and down about 1-2 pixels. It didn't notice it much at first, but it's really starting to annoy me.
When I play music, play any kind of game, open the gallery, the left side of my screen (about 1-2 cm) will start flickering and tear the picture.
When in gallery and swiping from picture to picture, the flickering/tear will start, but when just looking at a picture (aka nothing moving on the screen), it will stop completely.
The left side flicker/tear covers all the way from the top to the bottom, including the nav "back" button. The home and recent apps aren't affected.
Most of the screen flicker/tear stops when I'm just on my homescreens, the only part still affected by it is the "back" nav button.
It never happens when i'm in the browser (i use ICS Browser+).
I've tried restarting the device many times, I've tried turning it off and letting it rest for 24 hours, turned it on and within 5min it started again.
I haven't tried factory reset yet, since I wanted to check if it was fixable without doing so.
I'm currently running "almost" stock .28 update, rooted (not unlocked), I edited the SystemUI.apk, the keyboard layout for the dock and the bootanimation.
I hope someone can help me out
- Moon
PS: It isn't the old "recent apps" screen tear, it never affects recent apps.
You're experience what nearly everyone hear has experienced. Sometimes it'll fix itself, sometimes I have to reboot. So far, there's nothing you can do about it.

Unusual touchscreen issues

Standard global firmware. Poco launcher, default icons, not unlocked or rooted.
When I use an app in landscape mode (and ONLY then) the device often doesn't react to touches anymore. Most frequent example: YouTube, I'm watching something and want to pause it, it suddenly doesn't react any more. Swiping down or left from the edges (show notification bar or nav buttons) still works though, so the screen didn't freeze completely, it's weirdly selective about certain areas. As soon as I switch to portait (gyro) it works without any issues. Lockscreen also works. Same thing happened to me in the game Plague Inc, some areas on the screen didn't react for minutes, but I was still able to quit the game via pause button in the corner - the menu of the game had no issues either. As I said, never happened in portrait in the settings, Chrome or on my homescreen/Poco-launcher.
It's a pretty bizarre issue and I don't think it's hardware related, far too selective for that. Any solutions? Or should I just wait for an official update?

Imo you are touching display with your Palm accidentally in landscape. Try pay attention to this. (Was happening to me too)

Darn, I payed attention to it and I indeed constantly touch the NOTCH. That thing is not a feature, it's a burden to be honest. I can't hold it comfortably and I can't see my notification without actively pulling the bar down. I wish I could just turn it off.
