anyway...don't know if there is a post here answering this but i searched and didn't find..plus i'm too noob to understand most of what u say here ..i barely was able to root my phone with the help of a friend ...
i wanted to update to ICS but i understood that u can't update if ur phone is rooted so i wanted to know if i shall unroot it or do what exactly..cuz i installed the pure ics rom and it was verhy unstable and gave me headaches...some one plz help me to update the phone..thx

2 options, 1) you must be having a CWM, from that you can flash a Custom ICS rom
2) you can flash an official ICS rom from ODIN and root it.

did ur country get official ics,ur version jpkj2 gb 2.3.5 i think u dint right>>i suggest flash stock gb 2.3.5 again cause wats the point of flashing....logically

You might wanna hit the samsung galaxy S2 section and download the official gingerbread rom over there but before that is you device rooted and have u installed the clockwork recovery mod.....

Ok. This app will help u to root ur device.

And then go to the market and download Rom manager. This will help u with the clockwork recovery mod. Then in the above mentioned thread u will find the rom which ur looking for. Download it and copy it to ur device once that 's done go to rom manager flash clockwork mod and install the rom from sd card. And ur done after a quick reboot.

But I don't want to root my device
rooting ur device won't do any harm to ur device instead u will be the master of ur phone and not the slave. Anywho's u can unroot it later. If u have readed the thread for the root app. it can also unroot ur device.

if you look look in the forum under the galaxy s2 thread under devolopment you will find the stock roms and further down will be some custom ics roms

The stickies at the top you will see a post that reads stock rom use that and Odin to flash phone there OS a choice for rooted stock. Or unrooted your choice

Hello . First of all , excuse me for my noobish questions but i'm new to samsung and i have some elementary questions which i have not found using the search option.
My current firmware is 2.3.6 and I'm looking forward to flash it to ICS but i don't know which firmware to download . I flashed my friends phone (i9100p) to ICS and it worked but mine had a bootloop so i had to flash it back to my stock firmware (2.3.6) . Can somebody tell me what 4.x firmware is suitable for my phone because i do not know what "XWLP7" or "BVKL1" are.

in that case first remove battery and see it says i9100 not i9100G
get lp7 stock (sammobile.com/checkfus/http://skywanker.net/Download/download.aspx (Intratech's))
get odin and learn how to use it
wipe your phone using *2767*3855#
flash using odin
wipe again using same code
signin to you'r gmail and have fun.
follow the aboue post ,hes right and alwayz do a factory reset an then flash ics jus to b clean

Pls do a search...there is answer for everything....
you can use the JB from other countries like Spain, Nordics etc....and use ODIN to flash these .... also, inm y knowldge there is no official JB for India.....

You can always search this forum for 'stock jb firmwares' like I did, and your questions would have been answered already!
The official jb update for india has not yet been released. But you can dowload firmwares from other regions (available in this forum or at sammobile.com) and flash using Odin..
AFAIK Superbrick bug only affects phones running leaked firmwares, like some 4.0.4 firmwares. If you're updating to an official firmware, there is little chance of being affected by this bug..

Actully the eMMc brick bug is only on 4.0.4 stock kernel and is only triggered by backup, restore, flash etc in stack Recovery. Bottom line, you don't ave to worry.
And you are flashing via Odin so there isn't any chance of bricking your phone by the brickbug.
