[Q] About Evo 3D 4GB internal store :) - HTC EVO 3D

Hi pro !
After deep research I know that Evo 3d have 4 internal memory but just 1 GB for user storage . I always have stable 1.1 GB whatever the ROM I use. ( My desire have 1.5 GB ROM ( or some people call it internal storage ) and after flash ROM it is fluctuated from 1 GB (for sense rom) to 1.3 GB ( for cyanogenmod rom ). So, I think in Evo 3d, the producer make internal storage to 2 separate part: ~3GB for ROM file ( OS file ) and some important file that we unknown it yet ( except expert and programmer ), and the other is ~1GB for apps that user can install.
My question is that: am I correct? If I am correct ( or evo 3d have actually 4GB internal memory ) how can we use the rest? In my opinion, the ROM data is maximum about 500 MB, therefore we should have 3.5 GB free space for apps.
Now, I use 2 phones and even desire hd is not as modern as Evo 3d but it still have more space for apps. ( I use install the same app to 2 phone and desire hd have ~400MB and evo 3d have 250MB ).
Is there any way to force the device show the rest of internal memory???( excluding 1GB user space )
Thanks pro !
P/s about move 2 sd card. I move almost of app to sd card except some widget and ground running like yahoo chat or viber. I even use root move to sd to move more unmovable app but I still lack of space i am a smart phone addict.

It has 4GB but, as you said, most of it is used for system and data files. That space wasn't meant to be used as user storage besides the little piece that we got. It's probably best not to mess with them.
If you really need more than 1GB for apps alone you should look into moving them to your SD Card.

thanks for your answer. I am a smart phone addict ^^!. I move almost of apps to sd card except some that have widget and some ground running app like yahoo chat or viber. I even use root app to sd to move more unmovable app ^^! but my user space is still go down and down ^^!. I buy the second device evo 3d because I think it have more space for me but I am wrong . So, I dream about 2 way that it can use ~3gb (because the OS can not be large like that at least up to now). Desire hd can do that ( and my first phone is G1 is the same with desire HD) so I still hope it can be the same with evo 3d. I am a extremely user that I spend 7-8 hour a day but I am not a programmer ^^!. So, is there any "quietly brilliant" answer for this .
The other way that I dreaming is how to trick the device that sd card is internal memory. It can be have 32GB so we can do anything we want. Sound like crazy but it is still a idea.
Thanks for all.

cdma: 4gb
gsm: 1gb
Mines showing 1.15gb to be precise. Have a look at app2sd in the market.

Is that truly CDMA 4 GB storage and GSM 1 GB storage (((((((((((
Can someone use CDMA show some device infomation like titaniumbackup or system tunner to improve that (((((.
thanks

I still confusing anybody can give the finally answer.
Is there anyway to expend more user space than move to sd card( root move sd is be used )? thanks

CDMA here, It's still 1 gb

I only have an 8G card because it takes so long to back up all my music when I wipe the phone and install a new rom.
What is the write speed of the 32G card?

Are you wiping the your sd when you flash a new rom??? If so, I wouldn't recommend it.
When you wipe your phone you don't need to wipe your sd, just data/factory reset, cache & davlik cache. That way your music will stay no matter what rom you flash. If your not wiping the sd then I'm puzzled on what you mean when you posted it takes a while to backup all of your music when you flash a new rom.
Are you backing up your music every time you flash a new rom??? If so may I ask why??? Also as far as how fast a
32gb sd is well that depends mostly on what class it is and who's the manufacturer. Good brands to look for IMO are samsung, sandisk, pny, & patriot. Beware of cheaps sd's they usually don't yield the performance they advertise. Also the speed will vary according to how you run your phone. Class of sd's works like this basically. Take in mind this is just my understanding you can google to get a better and exact understanding. Class 4 means a minimal write speed of 4mb/s class 6 means 6mb/s class 10 means 10mb/s. The read speeds will be defined by the manufacturer and will vary with your setup of your rom, kernel, tweaks etc. You can also download apps to increase the read ahead speed of your sd. Hope this helps.

This is the card I just bought:

Much faster than my older Wintech 16GB class 10. I am super happy with this card.
Here is a speed test:

Yes, you are right , you can use desired sd card space to store /data etc by making a sd-ext partition using recovery and by using some scripts or apps.

Yes I'm wiping my card and backing up my music and photos when I try a new rom. I haven't found one I'm 100% set on but close. So yes I have been wiping the card to try and rule out problems due to having old data on the card from rom to rom.
I haven't done this a whole lot (but I am soff on my evo3d) which I guess is pretty good. I'm still trying to get the phone dialled in to how I like.

Although your method is definitely a good one its really only needed "imo" if you start having lockups, freezes, reboots, etc. It will save you a little time but that's all. However your method is a good way to prevent the above mentioned issues.

Is there a trick that make device believe that one part of SD is a internal sd ? or just is one kind of "root app to sd"? I mean is it move 100% of app to sd or just a part of it and the other system part is still on internal memory?

Whole app will be directly installed in your sd even though you haven't moved it......if you create a 1gb sd ext partition on your 32gb sdcard then the card will be of 31gb only and the remaining 1gb will be used as your internal memory.....

EVO 3D's 4 GB a liability?

I'm trying to make sense of the real difference between the EVO3D's 4GB of internal memory and the Photon/Within's supposed 16+ GB of internal memory.
Is this difference really something to be concerned/though about?
The way I see it, we have been running with 1 GB in most phones in recent history, and most of us just touch the limits of the memory with apps, etc. With the extra headroom of 4GB, I'm not sure there is too much concern for running out of app space (crosses fingers).
So, what is the rest of the memory for? Media? I understand that the internal memory might be faster, but SD cards have already been shown to be fast enough for most purposes (and I believe the Green Hornet comes on the SD card). IIRC, it was quite an anomaly to have the Nexus S store media and other files on the internal memory when it came out.
So, does the 4 GB concern, given the ability to get 32 GB on SD? Or is it a real advantage for the competitors?
It might have something to do with recording in 1080p or 3d . The internal would be faster to record to . Just my thought

Anytime you write/read to internal its always going to be faster than reading from a SD card. This also holds true with your desktop. Reading from your DDR2/3 Memory will always be faster than reading from your SSD/HDD. I think this is where the above poster actually gives some credibility about his claims.
I don't see the big deal. 4Gb is a decent amount of internal. How many people are going to actually need 16gb of internal space? I'm sure someone will reply and tell me they need it for this and this but I'm sure a large percent will do just fine with 4gb. People do just fine with 1gb.
If you download a lot of games then yes go with the SGS or photon.

even with 4-8 times the storage on those phones, they are only using 2x as much for app installation, correct? 1GB v 2GB?
I would rather have a 4gb internal and my 16gb class10 sd card then to have 10gn internal w/ no way to use a sd card with it, but then again I keep my 8gb card that came with the evo set up fully as a back-up card, i have a nandroid back-up and main files i use on my sd card set up on my 8gb cardd so all i have to do it restore and go if anything happens and I have to get a new phone.

It is not confirmed that the Within will have Tegra2, actually, it is highly likely it will have Exynos. The Photon is confirmed to have Tegra2. Also, the SGS2 is likely to have the highest amount of internal storage, with the Photon having the second largest.
I would have loved the 3D to have more internal storage but coming from the 4G it is still a considerable upgrade. Personally I never had an issue with the 1GB on the 4G so I don't consider the 3D's 4GB a liability.
The lower amount of storage on the 3D was probably a way to keep the final cost down given the other specs to make it affordable and I'm fine with that; $199 s a great price for what you get!

I agree we are getting a lot of phone for the money..I thought the same thing with the 4g..now we get a processor that more than twice as fast and four times the internal memory..I don't use a lot of games but my SD card has atleast 10 Roms and 4 full nandroid backups andive never run out of memory..mof I have at least 2 gb left..and that's with stock sd
I suspect there will be far less than 4g actually usable..
I got a low memory error one time so I went thru and unistalled a bunch of stuff I never used. No problem since. And I could probably delete even more stuff.
even 4GB's isn't a whole lot, I always end up with the issue of running out of space on my evo, I switch roms constantly, so Apps to sd doesn't really work for me, I'm hoping I can get away with tons of games installed on just 4gbs.
4GB's of internal on the 3D will be plenty for me. Only recently have I started to have issues with running out of space on the EVO. Ended up just moving a bunch of apps to SD card and all is fine again.

the built in a2sd sucks for this, but the a2sd (like DarkTremmors) that allot of the guys put into their roms works very well with this. I got a 4gd ext3 partition on my sd for this and i NEVER run out of space to install apps (in fact i dont even use 1gb up w/ close to 200 apps)
I'm not going to complain as it is a 16-fold increase of storage for me. Mmm... increased internal storage...
Add my 16 gig sd card and I think I'm golden.

more then enough. This is set aside for apps and OS I believe, and the photon will be the same. The internal space will be partitioned probably for apps and then most of it for storage.
4gb internal is more then enough.
I can see large storage making sense on devices like the nexus s 4g and iPhone because you have no option for an external form of storage but 16/32gb of storage on a device with a micro sd slot is a bit much. I'm not saying they shouldn't make phones with that much, the more the better but I just don't think you need that much. I think 4gb is enough to last us until we upgrade next year.
For the people who plan on having this phone for a second year the internal storage may become an issue in 12-18 months. Next years gen of phones will bring bigger apps, bigger files.

[Q] Only 1 gig of internal storage concerns...

How come the EVO 3D only has 1 gig of internal storage? I'm really wanting this phone this worries me. My Asus Transformer has 32 gigs of internal storage and with all the apps and everything I have on it, I'm well above 18 gigs used. And that's not including movies (stored on MicroSD).
So with that said, with 1 gig of internal storage, this device is VERY limited to how many programs you can load onto it right?
And I know there is App2SD but not all apps are compatible doing that. How do you guys fare with such limited internal storage?
Even on the OGVO I never had issues, but then again, I don't download the entire market.
When they start releasing roms I'm sure it will free up a couple more gb of internal storage BC were suppose to have 4. I think but I'm not sure a lot of rom was used for sense and the security they used to lock the phone.

No problems here. I haunt even used a third.. there is no need to have hundreds of apps..

* Pre-Honeycomb Android versions have a space limitation on installed apps.
* Froyo and Gingerbread grants the ability to move applicable apps to external media (microSD).
* Honeycomb takes advantage of all available space for application installation while removing the ability to move apps to external media.

You do realize that you are confusing the storage mediums, right? The 32gb of storage on your transformer is the same as the 8gb of storage on the SD card that comes with the Evo 3D. You can always install a 32gb card if you want. The Asus only has 1gb of "internal storage." in the way you are lookig at this.
You really are not going to find many phones with more internal storage unless they are sealed and have no MicroSD slot (aka iPhone).
Well I was really worried to owned a EVO and only had like 400 mb left. And the Thunderbird like 2.5 gb free (out of the 8gb internal that they say it has) anyways most apps over 10mb will let you moved to SD card , I download a lot apps and games are the only ones with the big space , I was amazed the most 10 mb + in iPhone were only like 3mb in Android, so don't worry you'll be ok
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

Isn't the 16/32GB on the transformer internal (with the ability to add up to another 32GB via microSD)? (I'm not sure, hence the question)
Dude 1GB is like a godsend for me. My OGVO had >300MB when it was bone stock, I'm very thankful for my 1GB and you should be too. But I also try not to load up my phones with bull**** I never use and usually have like 2-8 apps downloaded, max. I'd just get a bigger SD card if it bothers you that much, 32 gigs is like $40.
A lot of the 4gb is the ROM and security features. Once we can install custom ROMs we will get a couple gigs back. I don't know why I just said that. A previous poster said that. LOL I fail at forums. ;P

It's internal in the sense that it is built inside the unit, but its more like a SSD setup. Another way to think about it is like the 16/32 you are talking about is a MicroSD and you can add a second MicroSD. I mean it's not, but for conceptual reasons, that is one way to understand it.
You are correct....however...this 1g is for sense...apps and memory management file and the 3vo has plenty unless you are going to load 600+ apps SD another user here does...600 hundred...my god...
I was a bit concerned at first coming from a Droid x. That thing was the king of space when it came out. I think apps to SD was just coming out then. Now almost all apps are s2d. I've got 50+ apps using 300mb on phone, a couple gigs app usage on SD. I don't think its an issue any more.

Memory storage on evo3d

Im quite new to htc and im coming from a samsung infuse that has 16gb internal memory. is it normal that my sd card is where everything gets stored? It seems that since ive been using the evo3d the amount of space keeps getting smaller and smaller. I tried to delete htc temp files (not really understanding what that is) and its cleared about 3.9 gb but my music files are gone now..im using an 8gb memory card. is that enough for an htc??
go into the settings > applications and throw everything to the sd card. typically they install to internal and if written to move them, you can put them on sd. 3D isnt too bad with space, but the OG EVO was bad and would constantly fill up.
That's the thing I don't want clutter in my sd card

It works almost the same.as your old phone. U never had 16gbs storage internal, u orob had like 14 gb and 2 was used for apps and things. The left over memory works the same as a memory card. I think this is how it works out anyway.

yeh i know that the internal memory wasn't a full 16gb it was taken up by the android/samsung stuff. but then again I have another 14gb to do wtvr i want with plus my sd card which wasn't cluttered. I guess I just need to upgrade my sd card.
Any Idea why all my music was wiped? Do the htc temp files include my music?

64GB card from my E3D now only showing 27GB after format???

Hey all. I recently went over to the LTE from my E3D. In my E3D I had a 64GB card that worked without issue. I bought it from Best Buy so I have no doubt of its authenticity. I have been using it on my LTE for a few days now, but today I had to get a brand new phone from Sprint for an unrelated issue. When I put the card onto this new LTE, it said it was blank and prompted me to format it, which I tried to do, but it said failed. After a few tries, it finally said that it worked, but now it says that there are only 27GB on the card, when I know it is a 64GB card. Both the phone and Windows is only seeing 27GB and it is really starting to annoy the S**T out of me. Thanks in advance for your help.

Try formatting it on you pc
sent from my EVO LTE
Like Spyderekz said, try pulling it from your phone, formatting it on your pc (make sure to select default allocation size if you're doing this on Windows). Then put it back into the LTE and make SURE to format it again there (simply erasing data will do it). If that doesn't work, try the card on the 3D to make sure it's not actually damaged (although that would be very strange).
You can try the format utility located below if still having problems. It's put out by the SD Association and is supposed to be the best there is, but I don't remember where I first read about it.

i have a 64gb kinston class 10 mmsd micro sd and my computer and evo only saw it as 27gb
I have found that if formatting on your pc and you use a micro sd to usb drive windows only sees it at 27mb as well. if you use a sdcard adapter and put it into an sdcard reader then windows can see the full drive and allow u to format it to nfts or exfat. as well the card formatter above should see full size as well if using the sdcard converter but not if using a microsd to usb converter
this may help as well

Only thing I can think of to cause the difference in the amount of vailable memory is the EVO 3d unofficially supported 64gb (but they could only claim 32gb with memory tech at time of testing) and the EVO LTE still officially only supports up to 32gb (minus formatting/partitioning) which would make it 27gb-ish...haven't really found anywhere that says EVO LTE supports more....someone correct me if I'm wrong......kinda how windows vista only saw up to 3.25gb of ram and later they updated to show 4gb+ for people with more ram installed....does that make sense?....

I bought my 64gb card and put it in my e3d. Said card was damaged and to format it. It saw 58gb of the 64. Fine with me. I am using the same card in my LTE with no issues. Maybe the card got corrupted and took a dump? Try formatting it over and over.
Off topic: the ram thing on Windows is a 32 bit vs 64 bit thing. Anything over 3.25gb on 32bit would get allocated towards graphics memory if I remember correctly. 64 bit OS would give you your ram to the max potential.

Ahhh, that's a good point....I HAVE read something in the past about that possibly causing issues with flashing/memory allocation etc...wish I paid attention when I partitioned my card to ext4 for certain rims I used in past.....I'm no help anymore...but I am curious to see the result.

I want to point out that 58GB from a 64GB card is the correct size. You aren't losing anything in the format. Its just the difference between how storage companies and your computer measure memory.
Storage companies -> 1000MB = 1GB
Computers (including phones) --> 1024MB = 1GB
So... 64GB = 64,000,000,000 bytes according to storage companies
Your computer/phone sees that 64,000,000,000 as 64,000,000,000/1024/1042/1024 = 59.6GB

Is it possible to fool the Amaze to do this?

Is it possible to fool the Amaze to show the SD card as the internal storage and use it as internal storage? What about the 14GB internal SD to be in place of the 2GB internal storage and the SD card to be in place of the 14GB internal SD, so that removing the SD card doesn't impair the system.
I want 32 GB for games, not that crappy 2GB internal storage I have. There are apps that link the files to the internal storage, but I want a better solution (the one I listed above)

What you want is an apple device which has that cramped up memory which in my opinion sucks... See android have 2gb of internal storage for apps because our apps are created to be able to save most of the memory onto the SD Card... If u want 32gb of memory for games ill recommend to get an iPod touch that way u will save your phones battery... I only support ipods, iPhones are just ridiculous trying to keep up with android which is not working...

I don't like apple devices as iOS is a locked operating system. Its like living in a communist country. I want more space for gaming as I am a gamer. Someone modded the Note II to do that, so I was wondering for the Amaze. I have bought many games on Google Play and I, in no way, want to spend twice for the same game on the iPod, plus Apple overprice their ridiculous products (I know Samsung does so, too, but at least they give more freedom and features).
One 2 GB game like NOVA 3, Modern Combat 3, Amazing Spiderman, or Dark Knight Rises will fill it up, then you are left with insufficient space.
I have found an experimental fix as idk if removing the external sd would crash the system:

Not sure if this is what you're lookin for. But I've read THIS thread a while back. It's only for GameLoft games.
You won't be able to download it from the Play Store so you'll have to retrieve and install it manually but it still works.
