Hi, I'm new so I can't post in the dev threads. Here's my situation, I'd really appreciate anyone's help. Here's my current config:
S-OFF
HBOOT 2.11.2005 (just went back from 2.21)
Amon Ra 3.15
I'm having awful sdcard (both) issues and/or stability issues. What I've tried so far:
HBOOT 2.21 and Scott's Cleanrom 4.4. I can actually read the sdcards fine, but the rom reboots my phone and always gives me sim card errors. I've reflashed umteen times, wiped, wiped, erased davik again and again.
Restored original nandroid backup. Rom boots fine, can't see the sdcard(s)
So, I'm trying to go back to a GB rom (Cleanrom 1.7.5) but when I flash that rom, even with hboot 2.11, it can't see data on the sd cards. I've tried flashing "Old firmware patch.zip" but still can't read the cards.
On a related note, I can seem to talk to the phone fine via windows and adb (I have the htc drivers installed) but when I'm in what I think is "fastboot usb" any commands I run just say "waiting for device".
If I can get the phone back to GBE 1.7.5 I'd be super happy, as I have a titanium backup of it and I need this phone to be a phone again
Thank you.
You posted in the right place, the development forum is for developers to post their work, not our questions or plea for help. My guess is you need the old firmware patch you can find with many roms. All of Scotts roms put it on the SD card for you. Go look in the new CleanRom 4.4 thread and read the instructions on how to install. If that doesnt work find the appropriate RUU and flash that as per instructions.
EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508118 Go to this thread and in the very first post there is Instructions about halfway down for old firmware and a download for the patch. Download the patch, put it on your sd card and flash in Amon Ra. Should be good after that. In the future use the search function ar read through some other threads to see if someone else is having the same problem you are.
Actually I've been reading and searching for hours trying to find the right bit, so please don't assume that.
I reflashed RUU and then Scott's GB rom and it looks good again.
Thanks for the help.

I don't mean to assume but with your 2 posts and join date I will stay with my assumption that you haven't read enough. If you decide to try something you see in the forum make sure you read the entire thread from front to back to understand what you are about to do. I'm sure you were having a well documented issue which is why developers actually put it in the instructions to flash the patch immediately after you flash a Rom. But you should know that since you have been reading for hours. I don't mean to be a **** just telling it how it is.

Does the thunderbolt need to be rooted to upload a stock PG05IMG from my SD card? Im trying to load PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.6_Radio_1.16.00.0223r_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_174685_signed.zip from my SD card as my handset is stuck at the bootup screen, thus wont reload through an RUU.
The phone was previously rooted by someone else and I did a system clear through the clockwork recovery (Version 3.1.0.2) menu to wipe their info. Afterwards, it only showed the bootscreen. Oops....
Ive tried to load the aforementioned file through the bootloader screen by renaming it PG05IMG.zip, etc, but the phone keeps rejecting it.

What exactly are you trying to do? Completely unroot the thing and put S-On? I'd like to be sure before I dole out instructions. And why such an old RUU? Why not the 1.70 RUU. And how was the Tbolt rooted and S-Off'd before?
Honestly, Im just trying to get it to boot again as easily as possible. I dont care if it's rooted, unrooted, anything, I'd just like it to work.
I grabbed the old RUU because I figured I could update from there. It actually makes no difference to me at this point what's on it, I just want it to work again. lol

I hope wiser minds than mine chime in, but I don't think flashing an old RUU would be wise if Revolution was used. Revolution replaces the hboot and I don't think flashing a new RUU replaces it. I'm not sure what bad would come of it, actually.
It sounds to me like you just need to flash a new ROM. I don't know what radios you have, but you probably have newer ones since those are the radios of choice for newer ROMs. I'd try that first. If that doesn't do it, then I think what needs to happen next it to figure out what hboot you have. If it was done via the jcase method, then flashing an RUU should work fine. If not, well... I'm not an expert on that front, but there are threads on that subject. I wish I could dish out a real simple answer, but I'm not sure it so simple.
Definitely sounds like all that is needed in the OP's case is to flash a new ROM (custom or stock) from recovery as loonatik suggested or possibly restore a backup if one exists. Just sounds like /system was formatted and nothing flashed afterwards.

Thanks for confirming. If you can hold volume-down while powering it up and get into ClockworkMod, flashing another ROM is just a matter of a few button pushes.
Exactly what I thought. I've loaded custom roms on the a855 and Eris before, but the above file won't load. I'm wondering if the bl is locked but it has clockwork, so I'm confused...
That's an entire RUU. That's why. Go get just a ROM and flash through clockwork.
Hey just wanted to say that worked and thank you very much. I am a bit curious however as to why the full RUU didnt work...

A full RUU contains a LOT more than just a ROM. It must also be flashed differently; through the bootloader and not recovery. An RUU contains a new bootloader and radios, as well as a ROM. If you'd flashed that RUU correctly through the bootloader, you probably would have lost S-Off and root, or ended up with a device that did even less desirable things... like bootloop.
Thats what I actually tried to do. I renamed and tried to upload through bootloader but it failed. I've flashed RUU's before but never had the issue which worries me a bit. Could be my "bad luck" saved my butt from a more serious issue.
However I loaded the PlainJane rom and it appears I killed my radio now so my journey through aggravation has not yet ended. lol. Im going over your very helpful Q&A post now and seeing if I have a compatible radio for the ROM.
Edit: Nevermind, it seems to be good to go. Thanks again for the help.

in the rom thread most devs put what radios are compatible and a link to the radio. Not sure how new plainjane is, but most of the newer radios work with all the custom roms.

If you used Revolution or updated to the patched bootloader, it's designed to not allow flashing over. That's probably why it failed.
So im new to the Rezound but not to the rom and rooting world. I had made a N00b mistake by flashing ICS to my rezound without following the proper directions. Now I got myself in a situation that im hoping to get out of. When I try to boot it lets me get to my homescreen but then after 10's it restarts the phone. To top it off, I cannot mount my sd. It seems like the phone is getting worst by the minute. Is there a way out of this? Is there some sort of way to access my internal sd from my comp. Just at a clear loss of ideas. Please help.

What did you flash? Was it the new RUU? If you can get to your homescreen then you are still not in bad shape.
The build from the android police leak. I never ran into these problems before. I had the Bionic for a while thought I would give HTC a whirl. My brain is at a stand still lol. I looked for hours and cannot find anything. I usually feel bad posting in a forum but hey im stuck.

I guess what I'm referring to is that you say you didn't follow directions. Which directions didn't you follow? The steps are pretty straight forward.
Reading back, I flashed it with the bootloader unlocked and I wasnt supposed to. Also I was supposed to chancg something in a file and i neglected to do as well. Just looking for some type of solution to bail me out.

Flash the ruu then the Rom of your choice. All the instructions are in the ruu thread to lock, flash, unlock, recovery, etc. Then flash a Rom and not the AP one.
You also have the option to flash one of the ICS ROMe with the old firmware patch but I recommend the RUU path.
Not to thread hijack, but just out of curiosity, why don't you recommend using the patch? I know some people prefer to because it doesn't mark the bootloader as tampered, but are there some adverse effects?

Just that the new firmware is more stable with the ROM and everything works as expected.

Nils is right on this. You need to flash the RUU again. There are a lot of folks that needed to flash the RUU twice (myself included) to get everything to take.
It sound to me like you this happened to you. If you have the new RUU flashed properly, your phone will boot to the setup language preference screen.
If you had an incomplete/bad RUU update, you phone will boot to your last/current ROM with no SD or internal memory access. Nandroid backups won't restore properly either. Good luck, reflash the RUU with bootloader unlocked, allow system to reboot, flash a new recovery, and rock.
Okay, I've constantly searched but haven't found anybody with my exact problem. I really need some help.
I was running Venusaur ROM and decided to try and get S-OFF tonight. After having a few issues, I finally got it. That's when Jupunotbear's program asked me if I wanted to install a modified hboot. I asked if it was a good idea here on the forums, nobody answered about a half hour later, so I decided why not and installed it.
I think I made a mistake doing so because I believe it was an hboot meant for Gingerbread when I'm running an ICS rom. I tried the other fixes first before I realized this might be the issue. I tried formatting the SD card (after fighting an uphill battle to get past write protection on my desktop) and that did nothing.
I'm unsure how to proceed from here. I kind of know how to use adb, but I'm not sure how I can use this to fix it. Do I flash some image or zip or something? I'm afraid if I pick the wrong file myself, I can end up really screwing my phone up beyond all hope. This is urgent and I hope somebody can help me as soon as possible.
This has been answered in great detail. Go to this thread and your answer is in the very first post and you are correct, that hboot was for GB.

Q: What's the difference between GB and ICS Leak exploit?
A: In simple terms, Hboot. GB users can use ICS v0.1. But you must NOT flash the hboot when prompted. Decline it. If you want the ENG Hboot, Con had a thread in the development section with instructions.

God dammit, can't they make this any bigger? It's so easy to glaze over it and not see it.
Well, I made the bonehead mistake of flashing the hboot when prompted. How do I reverse this? I'm asking because the linked thread there is locked because it's apparently too old. Somebody have another file that works?
EDIT: Nevermind, apparently, I can use the SD card from recovery and USB. I'm not so terrified of being permanently screwed anymore.
Well, I was actually very frustrated for the past few hours and I was so close to just losing it and lashing out in fear that I destroyed my phone, but I think I managed to fix it now. I renamed the file that came in the ICS leak to PH98IMG, put it on my SD card via recovery (toggle MS-USB), and then booted into the bootloader and it worked.
Now storage is working on my rom again. Oh man, I can't keep doing stuff like this. I hope people who made the same mistake as me will be able to find this thread and know that there's still hope if they make the same mistake I did.
Did you read my post? I even downloaded the jb hboot to make sure it worked and its fine. Any more problems try posting in the thread titled "[FAQ] s-off" in the general section. That's the one I linked you to. I can't offer much more help as I have not had these issues but many others have.

I did read the post. Did you read mine? I just said I got it working again after I noticed that further at the bottom of the FAQ. Anyway, I got it working now. Now if only I hadn't gotten a class 2 32GB card. Transferring everything back from my backups is literally taking forever. But that's another issue altogether.
So I'm posting this here because I don't have enough posts to post in the thread for the Rom its self.
I updated my firmware and flashed this rom exactly like it said to in the thread, and I wiped everything before i flashed the rom its self, then flashed the rom, then the kernel install because I am s-on. This is where my problem lies, I did some searching and maybe I'm missing knowledge to do what posts relating to this said to do but when it went to flash the kernel in hboot, it gave me the Main Version is Older alert and the option to reboot. Now I'm stuck either going back to hboot just to have it try to reflash the kernel and bring back the error message or stuck at the sweet bootscreen |||bored||| put in this rom. If anyone can help me get past this this flash this kernel successfully it would be a big help and a big thank you from me.
I have the .zip that you can flash to write the main version in order for it to get over this problem but I have no idea how to get into recovery from where I'm at, it cant get passed the failed flashing in hboot and adb commands wont load recovery for me.

The fix is listed in boreds rezrom thread in one of his first couple posts. It even says mainver fix...
Sorry didn't read all the way. Lol my bad. Been awake 30+ hours now.
So two things you can do. Put the micro SD card into another phone or computer and temp remove the ph98img.zip file.
Two is pull the micro SD card out about halfway and put the battery in so it touched the contacts and turns on but don't put pressure on the micro SD card. Boot into hboot then lift the battery while pushing it against the contacts and push the microsd in and then volume down to recovery and power to chose and your in the recovery.

Got it, thanks a ton!
I like the SD card halfway in trick because I don't have a micro sd to computer adapter that did the trick for me
Mirror for that mainver file...

Hey bud same issue here do you happen to have a link to that file...the op's link in that thread is 404 ...thx in advance
i've flashed a few Roms already and often i'd have an SD issue after loading. for some reason i'm unable to mount my SD yet everything else would seem to be fine. (thats not the point of this thread but if you may know the reason that is, please let me know). anyway, so i'd try restoring my backup i made with my previous Rom, but for some reason, after finishing the restore process, it never boots up properly. it would always stay at the boot animation. I've had this same issue every time i've tried to restore and i've tried on a few different roms now. I'd always end up having to use the RUU to return to stock and then repeat the whole unlock/root process. i'm S-on, using the AmonRa recovery.
Is nand retsore not possible with the Rezound as of now or am i missing something?

You are missing a lot. The main problem is you are s-on and on gb firmware still. For the sd card you need to go find a Rom with sd card fix for non ics users. I know bored has it in his rezrom threads or just search for sd card fix. You flash that in recovery after flashing the Rom and before booting up the phone and your sd card problem should be resolved. Now your other problem is also because you are s-on. Recovery will not restore the boot.img unless you are s-off. So every time you restore you most likely have the boot.img from the last Rom you used which now is not compatible with your backup. You need to flash the boot.IMG in fastboot or save the ph98img.zip on the root of your sd card so they flash once you enter the fastboot after flashing the Rom and sd card fix. Now these are well documented issues and instructions are in the first few post of every Rom thread so you should have been able to find this yourself. I have also noticed attention to detail and following instructions is not your strong point so you may not want to attempt s-off on your own but if you try I suggest reading through all known problems and instructions several times so there is no confusion.

I wouldn't have felt the need to post this question if the answer was in plain sight. i do read through the Rom thread several times before attempting to flash it and when i came across these problems i went through them several more times and even looked through the first 5 to 10 pages of comments to see if anyone else had the same issue and only when i found nothing did i feel the need to post this. its disappointing how no senior member on this site can answer a question without passive aggressively calling the asking user an idiot. I hope that one day you understand when a user has a problem, that there is a possibility that the solution wasn't available to them in the thread and that XDA may have added the Q&A forums so that these users may find these solutions without receiving a demeaning lecture from someone who feels that everyone's level of knowledge on a specific subject must match his own before taking any sort of action.
But i have my answer now so thank you for that..
Not sure you understand how many times your exact questions have been asked. It's tiring answering the same question over and over when if the original poster had looked a little harder would have found the answer. I have personally helped several people within the last 2 weeks with the same problem and if you used the search function or scrolled past the first 2 threads would have found your answer. I apologize for the demeaning answer but I'm sure you will look a little harder before posting next time.
