[Q] Can't Restore Nand Backups - HTC Rezound

i've flashed a few Roms already and often i'd have an SD issue after loading. for some reason i'm unable to mount my SD yet everything else would seem to be fine. (thats not the point of this thread but if you may know the reason that is, please let me know). anyway, so i'd try restoring my backup i made with my previous Rom, but for some reason, after finishing the restore process, it never boots up properly. it would always stay at the boot animation. I've had this same issue every time i've tried to restore and i've tried on a few different roms now. I'd always end up having to use the RUU to return to stock and then repeat the whole unlock/root process. i'm S-on, using the AmonRa recovery.
Is nand retsore not possible with the Rezound as of now or am i missing something?

You are missing a lot. The main problem is you are s-on and on gb firmware still. For the sd card you need to go find a Rom with sd card fix for non ics users. I know bored has it in his rezrom threads or just search for sd card fix. You flash that in recovery after flashing the Rom and before booting up the phone and your sd card problem should be resolved. Now your other problem is also because you are s-on. Recovery will not restore the boot.img unless you are s-off. So every time you restore you most likely have the boot.img from the last Rom you used which now is not compatible with your backup. You need to flash the boot.IMG in fastboot or save the ph98img.zip on the root of your sd card so they flash once you enter the fastboot after flashing the Rom and sd card fix. Now these are well documented issues and instructions are in the first few post of every Rom thread so you should have been able to find this yourself. I have also noticed attention to detail and following instructions is not your strong point so you may not want to attempt s-off on your own but if you try I suggest reading through all known problems and instructions several times so there is no confusion.
Bob out!

I wouldn't have felt the need to post this question if the answer was in plain sight. i do read through the Rom thread several times before attempting to flash it and when i came across these problems i went through them several more times and even looked through the first 5 to 10 pages of comments to see if anyone else had the same issue and only when i found nothing did i feel the need to post this. its disappointing how no senior member on this site can answer a question without passive aggressively calling the asking user an idiot. I hope that one day you understand when a user has a problem, that there is a possibility that the solution wasn't available to them in the thread and that XDA may have added the Q&A forums so that these users may find these solutions without receiving a demeaning lecture from someone who feels that everyone's level of knowledge on a specific subject must match his own before taking any sort of action.
But i have my answer now so thank you for that..

Not sure you understand how many times your exact questions have been asked. It's tiring answering the same question over and over when if the original poster had looked a little harder would have found the answer. I have personally helped several people within the last 2 weeks with the same problem and if you used the search function or scrolled past the first 2 threads would have found your answer. I apologize for the demeaning answer but I'm sure you will look a little harder before posting next time.

Need help please

Hi, I'm new so I can't post in the dev threads. Here's my situation, I'd really appreciate anyone's help. Here's my current config:
S-OFF
HBOOT 2.11.2005 (just went back from 2.21)
Amon Ra 3.15
I'm having awful sdcard (both) issues and/or stability issues. What I've tried so far:
HBOOT 2.21 and Scott's Cleanrom 4.4. I can actually read the sdcards fine, but the rom reboots my phone and always gives me sim card errors. I've reflashed umteen times, wiped, wiped, erased davik again and again.
Restored original nandroid backup. Rom boots fine, can't see the sdcard(s)
So, I'm trying to go back to a GB rom (Cleanrom 1.7.5) but when I flash that rom, even with hboot 2.11, it can't see data on the sd cards. I've tried flashing "Old firmware patch.zip" but still can't read the cards.
On a related note, I can seem to talk to the phone fine via windows and adb (I have the htc drivers installed) but when I'm in what I think is "fastboot usb" any commands I run just say "waiting for device".
If I can get the phone back to GBE 1.7.5 I'd be super happy, as I have a titanium backup of it and I need this phone to be a phone again
Thank you.
You posted in the right place, the development forum is for developers to post their work, not our questions or plea for help. My guess is you need the old firmware patch you can find with many roms. All of Scotts roms put it on the SD card for you. Go look in the new CleanRom 4.4 thread and read the instructions on how to install. If that doesnt work find the appropriate RUU and flash that as per instructions.
EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508118 Go to this thread and in the very first post there is Instructions about halfway down for old firmware and a download for the patch. Download the patch, put it on your sd card and flash in Amon Ra. Should be good after that. In the future use the search function ar read through some other threads to see if someone else is having the same problem you are.
Actually I've been reading and searching for hours trying to find the right bit, so please don't assume that.
I reflashed RUU and then Scott's GB rom and it looks good again.
Thanks for the help.

I don't mean to assume but with your 2 posts and join date I will stay with my assumption that you haven't read enough. If you decide to try something you see in the forum make sure you read the entire thread from front to back to understand what you are about to do. I'm sure you were having a well documented issue which is why developers actually put it in the instructions to flash the patch immediately after you flash a Rom. But you should know that since you have been reading for hours. I don't mean to be a **** just telling it how it is.

No worries, don't care.

[HELP!] Just got S-OFF... storage won't work!

Okay, I've constantly searched but haven't found anybody with my exact problem. I really need some help.
I was running Venusaur ROM and decided to try and get S-OFF tonight. After having a few issues, I finally got it. That's when Jupunotbear's program asked me if I wanted to install a modified hboot. I asked if it was a good idea here on the forums, nobody answered about a half hour later, so I decided why not and installed it.
I think I made a mistake doing so because I believe it was an hboot meant for Gingerbread when I'm running an ICS rom. I tried the other fixes first before I realized this might be the issue. I tried formatting the SD card (after fighting an uphill battle to get past write protection on my desktop) and that did nothing.
I'm unsure how to proceed from here. I kind of know how to use adb, but I'm not sure how I can use this to fix it. Do I flash some image or zip or something? I'm afraid if I pick the wrong file myself, I can end up really screwing my phone up beyond all hope. This is urgent and I hope somebody can help me as soon as possible.
This has been answered in great detail. Go to this thread and your answer is in the very first post and you are correct, that hboot was for GB.

Q: What's the difference between GB and ICS Leak exploit?
A: In simple terms, Hboot. GB users can use ICS v0.1. But you must NOT flash the hboot when prompted. Decline it. If you want the ENG Hboot, Con had a thread in the development section with instructions.

God dammit, can't they make this any bigger? It's so easy to glaze over it and not see it.
Well, I made the bonehead mistake of flashing the hboot when prompted. How do I reverse this? I'm asking because the linked thread there is locked because it's apparently too old. Somebody have another file that works?
EDIT: Nevermind, apparently, I can use the SD card from recovery and USB. I'm not so terrified of being permanently screwed anymore.
Well, I was actually very frustrated for the past few hours and I was so close to just losing it and lashing out in fear that I destroyed my phone, but I think I managed to fix it now. I renamed the file that came in the ICS leak to PH98IMG, put it on my SD card via recovery (toggle MS-USB), and then booted into the bootloader and it worked.
Now storage is working on my rom again. Oh man, I can't keep doing stuff like this. I hope people who made the same mistake as me will be able to find this thread and know that there's still hope if they make the same mistake I did.
Did you read my post? I even downloaded the jb hboot to make sure it worked and its fine. Any more problems try posting in the thread titled "[FAQ] s-off" in the general section. That's the one I linked you to. I can't offer much more help as I have not had these issues but many others have.

I did read the post. Did you read mine? I just said I got it working again after I noticed that further at the bottom of the FAQ. Anyway, I got it working now. Also, I posted in that thread earlier but nobody responded and I was starting to lose patience with the fear I locked myself out of my phone.
Glad you got it working. Just saw your post.

Now if only I hadn't gotten a class 2 32GB card. Transferring everything back from my backups is literally taking forever. But that's another issue altogether.

SD card required?

Hey, im new here, and completely new to the whole "custom rom flashing" thing.
I would like to get into rooting my phone and then installing a custom rom like resurrection for example, but I have a couple of questions.
1. Do I need an SD card in my phone, to be able to root my phone/install custom roms? or can I just use the phones internal 16gb memory?
2. Would someone be kind enough to point me to a guide to rooting/installing custom roms for complete newbies like myself? I have searched the forums, but theres so many threads about different stuff, like clockworkmod/odin/cyanogenmod etc, my head is completely boggled. I just don't know where to begin with any of it.
Cheers.
1) No.
2) Everything you need to know is in the Stickies.

1. No you cant root without an SD card? or No you don't need an SD card? elaborate please.
2. Nothing in that thread helps someone like me who is totally new. I don't know what any of it means. Surely there is a simple guide that explains exactly how to root your phone, without linking you to 7 other threads in the process? That's all I've found up until now.
This requires sdcard

Thanks, thats what I was looking for.
One more thing, just so I dont make a mistake, could you tell me which kernel to download? my kernel version is 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231
cheers.
Read the bit in bold read which says 'Help ! Which file do I use ?'. This short section answers your question exactly.
ok well i tried CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5-PROPER.zip and my phone no longer boots....
tried CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5.zip and I get the same thing, so im stuck now. great.
I can get into CWM recovery, but I have no idea how to copy the rom I want to use onto the phone when its in recovery mode. This is something that is just not explained anywhere
help?
Right. In order of importance:-
1) No bumping threads within 37 minutes. Not cool. This is not your personal tech support forum.
2) You're having problems. Why ? Who knows. We're not there looking over your shoulder so we have no idea exactly what you did. I suspect you're having problems because you are in too much of a hurry/took shortcuts & didn't do what was suggested immediately after your OP.
3) However...Given the situation you find yourself in, I recommend you do one of two things:-
A) If you are absolutely sure you have CWM Recovery & not Android recovery (I say this because if your phone isn't booting normally, that normally means the flash didn't work & normally CWM wouldn't be successfully installed either), follow whatever instructions the rom you're wanting to flash has.
Every single rom on here has flashing instructions, normally on the first post on the first page of the thread on here devoted to the rom. If you can't be bothered reading those, I can't help you.
or
B) Go to Samfirmware.com. Search for the firmware that was on your phone before you tried to root it. Download this firmware. Flash the firmware you download following the instructions here. If you also end up with a .dll file, bin it. You don't need it. This will give you a clean install of stock. From there, I strongly suggest you read the CFRoot thread very carefully before you attempt to root your phone again. I also strongly recommend you read the Stickies linked to above, so you have some sort of understanding around what's what with this phone.
If you don't, being a betting man, I'll wager there's a fair chance you'll find yourself in the situation you currently find yourself in again (best case scenario), or worst case you'll end up with a 135gm paperweight as many people have on here over the past few days.
It's all up to you now. Your phone's destiny is in your hands.
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
Sorry for bumping, I panicked a little when my phone wouldnt boot. I just expected it to work because I have done things like this in the past and never had problems. Im a pretty tech savvy person really, im just new to android.
I wish it was as simple as reading one thread, but there are dozens of different threads on how to root this phone, and different methods, its extremely confusing.
Im downloading the stock kernel now (300+mb for some reason, and its going to take over an hour to download)
Once I get my phone back to normal, I'll read through some more threads and try and get a better understanding on how to root my phone.
I had it rooted properly as the recovery mode stated CWM in the corner, I think the issue I had was not being able to copy the rom I wanted to use, onto the phone, because I dont have an SD card.
Anyway, thanks for the help, and fingers crossed I can at least get my phone to boot again.
Man, I've never come across anything so complicated in all my life lol.
Edit: Sorted! Flashed back to original kernel and its working as it was before I started. Thanks very much for your help mate, and at least now I know how to restore my phone if I mess it up again in the future.
just thought I would update this thread and say I finally accomplished what I wanted.
Incase anyone is wondering, this is what I did:
Restored my phone back to factory settings/firmware/kernel
Booted the phone up, and copied my rom of choice to the internal memory via USB connection, and enabled debug mode.
restarted in download mode and flashed cf-root kernel (ended up with bootloop)
went ahead and installed the rom via clockwork recovery (creating a backup first)
The phone now boots into the rom im using (Resurrection Remix)
So if anyone is a little worried by getting the bootloop (but can still get into clockwork recovery) try flashing your required rom. Your phone may boot fine with new rom anyway. Mine did.

Reverting to Gingerbread from ICS

I've been having some issues with constant reboots and phone signal strength after installing ICS. I have tried both methods (fastboot flashes and CWM flash) and still have the same problems.
Unfortunately, I'm a newbie, and was an idiot and did not create a backup.
I would like to be able to revert to the last stable official Gingerbread. Any recommendations on version to revert to? I'm been searching here for hours, and every time I think I find a good thread on how to do this, the links to the files are all dead.
Can someone please steer me in the right direction.
Also, again, I am willingly admitting that I'm an idiot for not making the backup in the first place. I saw that so many people were having no issues at all, so I assumed I would not either.
Thanks.

I recommend you the ROMs NottachTrix, it has Aroma installer and lets you configure it to your own taste. Guess this one is the best, if not you could go with a stock GB, search for fruitcakes (don't like them because the bloatware).
I'm assuming that you already have or know how to install a recovery. If it's not the case, let me know and I'll help you.
Thanks. I have CWM loaded so I shouldn't have an issue.
I think I would have the best luck with a stock ROM for now. The problem is finding a stock unlocked ROM for GB that still has a valid link. 90% of the links I'm coming across here including fruitcakes are all dead links.
http://samcripp.com/files/
you can find fruitcakes here. works from your phone or computer.
be sure to thank Sam Cripp for hosting the files for us. and the project in the first place.
Thanks. I was able to restore back to GB, but unfortunately still have the same signal strength issues.
have you tried to flash a new radio? there are plenty of radios on that website as well.

I tried folks, I really did.

First and foremost. I BIG Thank You to all the Dev's that give us these awesome tools and ROMS!
I probably should have put this in the Gen section, mods move if needed.
I have sent several hours the last 2 days with a goal in mind. That is to update my Amaze 4g to Jelly Bean, and restore my phone as it is now running JB
I feel that the best option will be AIO, and the 4EXT touch panel...be glad to pay and contirbute to this program and dev.
I believe I have a handle on most things now. But to make sure, I reread the tutorials follow videos etc...then this tutorial seems to direct me to another thread, click on that to ensure I'm not going to screw things up...it will be a dead link. So, back to reading other stuff again.
I finally understand recovery after I saw it mentioned many times. SO, according to the AIO, I'll need to flash a recovery. I couldn't find in my search, do I use the 4EXT contol panel, or the 4EXT free file. Is that what AIO needs. Not sure, did more searching. Still not sure. Then after these steps are complete, do I need to update the kernel? Again, not sure.
Then I come to the point of backing up everything. My goal is to have the new ROM running and then restore everything as it is now runnig ICS.
Is that possible? I'm not sure, as my search didn't find too much useful. I see Backup Pro recommended, will this accomplish my "cloning" if you will of my phone after ROM update....not sure.
Then, in regards to S-OFF. I will use the AIO for that as well. But again, not sure when to use it. Do I do that after the rooting, or before. From what I read, S-OFF will wipe your data. But, I understand it will leave the external SD card alone?
Then I get to the actual Jelly Bean ROM. It seems as though the CM10 seems to be the one to use. So, as i read about it's features; I see that the speakerphone volume doesn't work. Little confused, as to if speakerphone is the actual handset or the speakerphone when selected.
If it's the handset, I don't use BT so I would be DOA. Does this pertain to all the JB ROMS? It looked like there were only 2 actual JB Roms.
My other concern not addressed yet. A mention of the service being dropped on TMOUS with CM10.
So, I have tried to find out my info, but even when I do; it seems to take me to another path of more information. Hence further confusion.
This is not really a question per se, just wanted to show how I followed several paths; and still confused .
I know one of my biggest issues, is not using the search but inputting the correct data to get the answer I'm seeking. Which is why, I was all over the place.
I'm sure some reading this post will be Fire,Ready Aim. That's OK...Life's to short. After 2 days of this, I have to ask myself...is it worth it to me to accomplish this? Answer, Yes. So, I'll keep trying, till I have a comfort level of doing everything right the first time.
I guess, even though you have produced some great "Hand holding" tools, tutorials etc; there are still some "dummies"..me, that can still get confused.
I guess it would be like me putting you into the B737 I fly, even though you have a manual that tells you everything, you'll still have questions.
Thanks for allowing me to vent.

well this is a really big description and briefly you mean you want to root your phone and then s-off while having a good nanroid back then try the CM 10 JB rom right??
the process would go in this order
Unlock Bootloader >> 4EXT Recovery >> SuperUser >> S-OFF >> SuperCID >> ICS Firmware >> any ROM/OTA
you'll find all the stuff and instructions on how to do it in this post Guide for GB to ICS
cheers :good:
